60 miles? You should see the enormous distance that 10 or 12 miles (between
Orcas Is and us) makes at times. You'd think we're on different planets!

1566 HLAZ was up and down but often good, especially 1230-1315

1575 Thailand fair carrier with decent audio for a couple of minutes
around 1250

1413 and 1422 carriers visible around 1305, with 1422 producing a het.

Just for the heck of it, I listened to 440 for JOWF at 1250-1305, but
only heard KMED and the Alberta station

Bruce, I heard JOWF at 13:09 this morning. I remember hearing it frequently
last year, and on the Charlottes, it totally dominates that channelWalt.

Last time I heard JOWF was in 1978... on 1440...
on a DX150B with a 300 foot Inverted L terminated at 75 feet above ground.

I looked this morning -- nothing.

Bruce,

I've heard JOWF at least three times in the past week or so from here
on Orcas... and also, Walt and I compare things each morning
you'd think that we would be very very similar, but often we are
not. I'd imagine that your inland location pretty much dampens the
JJ and CC signals coming down the Gulf of Georgia... I know that the
Olympic Mountains and possibly the rest of the San Juans that are
between me and Australia (but that the Victoria guys at least
partially clear) sure makes it more difficult for me to hear
Australia from here on Orcas.

Martin,

When I was in Yorba Linda, CA last October, I could hear JOUB 774 on the R-30
cc using a Space Magnet antenna. Signal was weak, also heard HLAZ 1566.

It was dark at 6 AM and by 6:10 it was getting light and the signals were
fading except 774 was still in at 6:15. I even tried on my Collins 51J and I
could hear them. After 6:15 the IBOC stations wipe out most of the 700's.

594 is new for me but not enough details for a report. I'll try tomorrow.

It looks like you get good TP reception there in AZ.

Only a couple more mornings to have fun before heading home to Victoria.
Hope everyone is well and having as much fun as I am. My plan is to post as
many of the Alaskan IDs as possible, probably at www.dxer.ca website.
Thanks, Colin! Walt Salmaniw, Masset, BC.

Thanks Walt! Excellent report.
You are truly the envy of every DXer in Continental North America.

Further to any MP3's that you might post to DXer.CA -
watch for a DX Podcast tonight:

I interview CBC-RCI Alumni Ian McFarland
prior to his trip next month to the Kulpsville
SWL Winterfest.

He is heading out there tooled up with the ZOOM H4

including:

A new 2-CD Series set with several remarkable blasts from the past!
