Re: [IRCA] WKVQ-1540 DX test
Things seemed to be more auroral here in Alberta, being a bit further north, with the strongest station on 1540 being KMPC from CA, rather than the the regular KXEL. Plenty of IBOC noise from KFBK didn't help either.Heard zero from the first test, but was rewarded with some very weak code just after 0700 UTC on the 2nd. That was it, but I'll take what I can get! 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, AB ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] WKVQ-1540 DX test
From Whitby ON, just West of Toronto, CHIN just about disappeared when I targeted WKVQ on the 500 ft BOG to 150 degrees in the ravine out in the backyard. KXEL was strongest by far but WKVQ was clear and readable with instrumental Christmas tunes and morse ID repeated at 0104EST. I was surprised that CHIN was so buried (a distant third) without resorting to phasing, but I guess the lobes just lined up. In bed by 0105. Congratulations to Patrick! Re: [IRCA] WKVQ-1540 DX test
1540 is generally a channel to avoid here, thanks to the power trio of CHIN, WDCD and KXEL - they all blast me with their nighttime DA's. You guys down south have it easy! To make it even more challenging, I was too tired to sty up for the test. At 2330 when I hit the sack, CHIN was on top of the pack, so I tried to null them, leaving WDCD as dominant. Checking my overnight recordings now, I found that KXEL had come way up by 0100, and they and WDCD were both huge during both test periods. I did find some bits of code breaking through during the first period, but things improved considerably after 0200. There was a very clear sequence of WKVQ code IDs starting a few seconds before 0203. I could probably pick out some more bits from the test if I listened more, but this was enough to seal the deal for me. 1540 logging #14, and every one has been a struggle after the first three... Many thanks to those who organized and ran this test! Nothing obvious noted out on the west coast for the first 15 minutes...if CW is used, it might be possible to dig it out with some filtering of the recording. best wishes, Nick At 06:03 12-03-11, you wrote: Instrumental version of Sleigh Ride at 1:01.
