EXCLUSIVE: PARALYSED MAN DRAGGED FROM CAR.. BY COPPER
EXCLUSIVE
By Martin Fricker
Daily Mirror
3 March 2006
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=16767157%26method=full%26siteid=94762%26headline=exclusive%2d%2dparalysed%2dman%2ddragged%2dfrom%2dcar%2d%2d%2dby%2dcopper%2d-name_page.html

THIS is the shocking moment a paralysed man was dragged from a car by
police after a minor crash.

Officers ignored repeated pleas from terrified Sharaz Mahmood and
handcuffed him face down on the road.

The wheelchair-bound 25-year-old, paralysed in a 2001 smash, was
surrounded by police dogs as his distraught friends tried to tell
officers he was disabled.

But moments later they lifted him up by his arms and pulled him into a
police van, his legs dragging behind him. The incident was captured on
a takeaway's CCTV camera.

Sharaz, who plans to sue police over the incident and wants the
officer involved charged with assault, said: "They shouldn't treat
anybody like that, let alone someone disabled. They can't get away
with it.

"I repeatedly told them I was paralysed but they didn't listen.

"An officer yanked open the door, put me in a headlock and dragged me
out of the car.

"The cop got me on my front and knelt on my back, in the exact place
where my spinal column was damaged.

"At that moment, I thought he was going to do more damage and leave me
completely paralysed. I had this dog barking in my ear, a policeman
kneeling in my back and I was in agony. I was thrown into the van and
was lying on the floor. The cops kept telling me to get up on to the
seat but I couldn't."

Sharaz's ordeal began when police arrived after the crash in
Peterborough, Cambs, on Saturday. He was a passenger in a car that hit
another. The driver ran off but was later arrested on suspicion of
being over the limit.

Sharaz told officers his wheelchair was in the boot of the car but he
claims they just threw it in the back of the van with him.

He was taken to hospital before being locked up in a cell for 10 hours.

He said: "They took me out of the cell at lunchtime and said they were
just going to give me a caution for abusive behaviour.

"I've got witnesses and plan to sue the police." Sharaz accepted the
caution.

His solicitor Nasser Khalil added: "We are planning on suing and want
the officer identified and charged."

A witness filmed the scene on a mobile phone video which has been seen
by the Mirror. Police claim Sharaz and his friends were abusive and
threatening.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: "A complaint has been
lodged with the force and is being investigated.

"It has also been referred to the Independent Police Complaints
Commission.

"As such, it would be inappropriate to comment further."

Explosion at US consulate in
Karachi kills diplomat A suicide bomber killed an
American diplomat and three other people in the port city of Karachi yesterday
on the eve of President George Bush's first visit to Pakistan. The blast tore
through the rear car park of the Marriott hotel, 20 metres from the US
consulate, wounding 52 people, propelling vehicles into the air and showering
the streets with debris. The American diplomat, his driver and a Pakistani
soldier who apparently tried to prevent the bomber reaching the consulate were
killed immediately. An unidentified woman also died. Bush vowed to press ahead
with his trip, the final leg of his south Asian tour, saying he would not be
deterred by "terrorists and
killers".

[IslamCity] Why is Friday special?

2006-03-05 Thread Mohammed A

What is the merit of Friday over other days ? and why ?. Answer:Praise be to Allaah.   Friday has many distinguishing features and virtues that Allaah has bestowed upon this day and not others. It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah and Hudhayfah (may Allaah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Allaah led those who came before us away from Friday. The Jews had Saturday, and the Christians had Sunday. Then Allaah brought us and Allaah guided us to Friday. So there is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and thus they will follow us on the Day of Resurrection. We are the last of the people of this world but we will be the first on the Day of Resurrection, and
we will be dealt with before all others." Narrated by Muslim, 856. Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: Al-Qaadi said: The apparent meaning is that it was obligatory for them to venerate Friday but this was not stated clearly; the matter was left to their own reasoning… But they (Christians & Jews)
did not manage to work it out and Allaah did not guide them to it. It was enjoined clearly upon this ummah (nation), and was not left to their own reasoning, thus they were blessed with it … It was narrated that Moosa (Moses - peace be upon him) enjoined Friday upon them and told them (the Jews) of its virtues, but they disputed with him and argued that Saturday was better, and it was said to him, `Let them be.' Al-Qaadi said: if there had been a clear command, their arguing with him would not have been valid, rather it would have been said to him that they were going against the command. I say: it may be that that was clearly enjoined upon them but they disputed as to whether it was something they had to adhere to or they could change it to another day; they decided to change it to another day and they
erred greatly thereby. It comes as no surprise that Friday was specifically enjoined upon them and they went against that. Al-Haafiz (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: How can it be otherwise when they (the Jews) are the ones who said "We hear and we disobey"? It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The best of your days is Friday. On that day Adam (peace be upon him) was created; on that day he died; on that day the Trumpet will be blown and on that day all of creation will swoon. So send a great deal of blessings upon me, for your blessings will be shown to me." They said, "O Messenger of Allaah, how will our blessings upon you be shown to you when you have turned to dust?" He said, "Allaah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the Prophets,
peace be upon them." Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1047; classed as saheeh by Ibn al-Qayyim in his comments on Sunan Abi Dawood, 4/273; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 925. It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. On it Adam was created, on it he was admitted to Heaven and on it he was expelled therefrom." Narrated by Muslim, 1410. This hadeeth includes some of the reasons why Friday is regarded as special.  Al-Nawawi said: Al-Qaadi `Iyaad said: The apparent meaning is that these virtues do not mean that Friday is regarded as special because Adam was expelled on a Friday and the Hour will begin on a Friday. Rather it is
meant to explain what momentous events took place and will take place on this day, so that people will make the most of this day to do righteous deeds, so as to attain the mercy of Allaah and ward off His punishment.  This is the view of al-Qaadi. Abu Bakr ibn al-`Arabi said: All of these events are good and add to the virtue of Friday. The expulsion of Adam from Heaven is the reason why his offspring and the Messengers, the Prophets, the righteous and the awliya' (the friends / supporters / allies of Allah) exist. He was not expelled from it as such, but rather it was for a purpose, then he will return to it. With regard to the Hour (the Day of Resurrection) beginning on a Friday, the reason is so that the reward may be hastened for the Prophets, believers in truth, awliya' and others, and their honour and high status may be made manifest. This hadeeth
points to the virtues of Friday and its high status in relation to the other days.  It was narrated that Abu Lubaabah ibn `Abd al-Mundhir said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Friday is the master of days, and the greatest of them before Allaah. It is greater before Allaah than the day of al-Adha and the day of al-Fitr (the 2 Eids). It has five characteristics: on this day Allaah created Adam, on it He sent Adam down to the earth, on it Allaah caused Adam to die, on it there is a time when a person does not ask Allaah for anything but He gives it to them, so long as they does not ask for anything haraam (illegal),

Miraculous medicinal uses of Zamzam.
By: Dr. Qazi Shaikh Abbas

Published in "The Weekly Mag", April 16,2005, Pakistan, also published in The Yemen Times
It was the earnest need of the child that mother of Ismail Nabi ran in search of water in the vicinity of Makkah.
Under divine instruction, Jibreel (A.S.), struck the site of the land with his heels, and perpetual source of healing Zamzam was discovered. Zamzam was considered sacred earlier to Islam amongst Jews as well as Christians too. Afterwards, due to the religious bigotry they ignored it. It has simultaneously three abilities, to quench the thirst and removes the feeling of hunger. The next ability of Zamzam, as per traditions, is its numerous and enormous medicinal benefits.

·
Rasulullah(S.A.W.A.)  used to carry Zamzam in water-bags to Madinah. He used to sprinkle it over the sick and offered them to drink it with the intention of cure,
(Al Silsilat al Saheeyah, 883, Qaherah).
·
According to the Hadith literature "Zamzam, is a Barakat, a food that satisfies and a cure for the sick". (1-Abizar, Muslim, 4/1922; 2-. Al Tayaalisi (61)).

·
Zamzam is considered to help students in the correct pronunciation of Arabi in non-Arab region.

·
It was Abizar who expressed his personal experience to his Lord, Rasulullah(S.A.W.A.),while he questioned about his foodstuff. He informed:
I had spent forty long days with Zamzam. I do not feel any kind of weakness or hunger nor do I become slim." Rasulullah(S.A.W.A.)
declared: "Verily, it is blessed, it is food that nourishes." (Muslim, 2473).
·
According to the Tradition narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah al Ansari "With whatever (legal) intention one can drink it his wish fulfills". "It is a cure for a numerous diseases by the order of Allah. So you should have the intention of what you want to gain by drinking this water".

·
Abbas informed: "Before the dawn of Islam, Zamzam was known as Shabaah (satisfaction). When he drank from
Zamzam, he recited this Doa: "O Allah! I ask you for beneficial knowledge, plentiful provision and healing from every disease."
·
It is applied to the eyes to brighten the sight.
A Yemeni Shaikh was fond of reading Quraan from a small Mashaf. As he
became old he found that he couldn't read easily from that Mashaf because his sight is getting weak. He heard about the Zamzam and its advantages. He came to Haj and drank from Zamzam. His vision improved and he started reading from that small Mashaf easily and without any sight problem. He achieved what he wanted because he was confident of that and had deep faith in.

Yusria Abdel Rahman al Harazi, a Yemeni lady narrated that she was affected by
a crimson ulcer, in eye. She had severe headache, which cannot be cured by medicine. She was about to become blind in the affected eye. She consulted famous eye specialist there, who advised her, an injection, which will stop the headache but will dysfunction the affected eye and consequently she will loose the sight. Yusria got frightened but confident of the mercy of Allah. She intended to perform Umrah and begs to Allah to cure her. She came to Makkah and performed Tawaaf and washed her eyes
with Zamzam. When she came back to the hotel, she found that her affected eyes were cured and the crimson ulcer disappeared.

Dr. Faruq Antar, tells his own story. He says: that he had a stone in his
ureter and the doctor could not remove or destroy it without operation. But he postponed the operation two times. Meanwhile he performed Umrah and offered Doa to cure him without undergoing operation. He drank Zamzam water and offered two Rakaat. Then he felt a benching in his
ureter and hurried up to the toilet and by the grace of Allah he saw the miracle. The stone came out and he was cured without operation. The doctors who were treating Dr. Faruq were surprised for this sacred treatment.
("Scientific Miracles in Islam & Sunnat Nabawiyah" By: Mohammed Kamil Abdel Samad, Beirut).
Layla Al Helw, a Moroccan lady says: "9 years ago, I found out that I had a
cancer. I was not a religious so decided to commit suicide, but it was destined that my illness became cause of my emancipation and source of inspiration a lot of people like me. I went to Belgium for advance treatment. Several doctors recommended my husband that removal of my breast is indispensable. I requested the doctors to suggest another medication course. As per suggestion, I followed the treatment and it did not cause any serious side effects, which made me pleased. I Thought; may be the doctors were wrong and I d

discovered. In experiments reported in the journal Science, toddlers helped strangers complete tasks such as stacking books.Young chimps did the same, providing the first evidence of altruism in non human primates.
Altruism may have evolved six million years ago in the common ancestor of chimps and humans, the study suggests.Just rewardsScientists
have long debated what leads people to "act out of the goodness of
their hearts" by helping non-relatives regardless of any benefits for
themselves.Human society depends on people being able to
collaborate with others - donating to charity, paying taxes and so on -
and many scientists have argued that altruism is a uniquely human
function, hard-wired into our brains. The latest study suggests
it is a strong human trait, perhaps present more than six million years
ago in the common ancestor of chimpanzees and humans."This is
the first experiment showing altruistic helping towards goals in any
non-human primate," said Felix Warneken, a psychologist at the Max
Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany."It's been claimed chimpanzees act mainly for their own ends; but in our experiment, there was no reward and they still helped."
'Astonishing'Dr
Warneken and colleague Professor Michael Tomasello wanted to see
whether very young children who had not yet learned social skills were
willing to help strangers. The experimenters performed simple
tasks like dropping a clothes peg out of reach while hanging clothes on
a line, or mis-stacking a pile of books.Nearly all of the group
of 24 18-month-olds helped by picking up the peg or the book, usually
in the first 10 seconds of the experiment. They only did this if
they believed the researcher needed the object to complete the task -
if it was thrown on the ground deliberately, they didn't pick it up."The
results were astonishing because these children are so young - they
still wear diapers and are barely able to use language, but they
already show helping behaviour," said Felix Warneken.Lost spoonThe pair went on to investigate more complicated tasks, such as retrieving an object from a box with a flap.
 Children and chimpanzees are both
willing to help, but they appear to differ in their ability to
interpret the other's need for help in different situations
   Warneken at al

When the scientists accidentally dropped a spoon inside, and
pretended they didn't know about the flap, the children helped retrieve
it. They only did this if they believed the spoon had not been dropped
deliberately. The tasks were repeated with three young
chimpanzees that had been raised in captivity. The chimps didn not help
in more complex tasks such as the box experiment, but did assist the
human looking after them in simple tasks such as reaching for a lost
object."Children and chimpanzees are both willing to help, but
they appear to differ in their ability to interpret the other's need
for help in different situations," the two researchers write in Science.Ugandan studyFurther
evidence of chimps' ability to cooperate was revealed in a separate
study published in the same edition of the scientific journal.Alicia
Melis at the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Uganda found that
chimps recognised when collaboration was necessary and chose the best
partner to work with. The chimps had to cooperate in reaching a food tray by pulling two ends of a rope at the same time."We've never seen this level of understanding during cooperation in any other animals except humans," she said.
But
she said there was still no evidence that chimpanzees communicate with
each other about a common goal like children do from an early age.Story from BBC NEWS:http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/2/hi/science/nature/4766490.stm

Unrest after Israel church attack

Scuffles broke out in the town of Nazareth in northern Israel after
three Israelis set off firecrackers in the Church of the Annunciation.

The incident during a service late on Friday caused panic among
worshippers and sparked angry protests outside.

Large numbers of police went to the church to rescue the attackers,
who took shelter inside from the crowds.

Christians believe the church, one of their holiest sites, marks the
place where the birth of Jesus was foretold.

'Huge noise'

The three, two women and a man, entered the church pushing a pram
filled with fireworks and small gas canisters and began throwing them,
reports said.

This sparked panic among worshippers, some of whom were said to have
attacked the group.

It went on for six or seven minutes - I thought we were going to die
Rouan

Internal Security Minister Gideon Ezra, in Nazareth at the time, said
the intruders threw something that made a "huge noise" into the
church, and the police came to defend them from the anger of the
crowd.

An eyewitness, Rouan, said she heard a "boom".

"It went on for six or seven minutes," she was quoted by the
Associated Press as saying. "I thought we were going to die."

The blast caused black marks on the walls, but no major damage, she said.

'Family members'

Hundreds of people then gathered outside the church to protest against
the incident, preventing the three from leaving.

Clashes broke out and protesters were said to have damaged an
ambulance which arrived on the scene.

Officials said five policemen were injured and a special commando unit
was called in to reinforce local police, who used tear gas on
protesters.

At least two people were injured in the clashes.

Israeli media said the three intruders were members of the same family.

One of the assailants was known by police to suffer from mental
illness and to have threatened to attack churches in the past, reports
said.

"I can say that they have been extricated and we are taking them in
for questioning," a senior police officer, Yaakov Zigdon, was quoted
by Reuters as saying.

Mr Ezra said he hoped city and church officials could "bring this
matter to an end without further incident".

The Church of the Annunciation marks the place where Christians
believe the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to foretell the birth of
Jesus.

[IslamCity] The cronyism of Paul Wolfowitz at the World Bank

2006-03-05 Thread S A Hannan

Dear members of the list,

Assalamu Alaikum. Please read this interesting
story on World Bank management by  Paul Wolfowitz  from Al-Ahram weekly.

Shah Abdul Hannan

What a shame
The cronyism of Paul Wolfowitz at the World Bank is ruining
the institution and driving the best of its staff out, writes Mohamed
Hakki*

In an article on the eclipsing fortunes of the neocons vis-à-vis Bush
foreign policy, the Wall Street Journal said: "In the past year,
the ranks of the neoconservatives within the administration, who moulded
the American response to 9/11, have grown thin and their influence has
ebbed." It mentioned the departure from key policy-making positions of
some of the administration's most prominent neoconservatives. Some of
them left in disgrace, others left their jobs for other Bush
appointments. Perhaps the most interesting of these career changes
involves that of former Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, who was
promoted for his role in the Iraq war to president of the World
Bank.
From day one, all vice-presidents, directors and staff members of the
World Bank were apprehensive in view of his reputation as the "high
priest of the hawks" or "The Vulcans"; nicknames for Mr Bush's
tight-knit group of security advisors, the architect of the Iraq war,
and the driving ideological force behind the decision to invade Iraq.
They also wondered about his arrogant dismissal of all misgivings about
the war. They remembered his rosy forecasts, his predictions that the
Iraqis would greet US soldiers as liberators, with open arms, and his
casual dismissal of warnings by Eric Shimseki, former US army chief of
staff, that the US would need several hundred thousand troops in Iraq
(and who was fired for daring to give his expert opinion). They
remembered well his assertion that the "oil revenues of Iraq over the
course of the next two to three years would bring in 50 to 100 billion
US dollars which could more than finance its own reconstruction." But,
to be fair, they were all willing to give him the benefit of the doubt
despite the deep moral struggle they are each grappling with; working
for a man who is morally and politically responsible for a horrendous
war that has shed the blood of thousands of innocent victims in Iraq.

Now, it seems that the honeymoon is over. On the cost of the Iraqi
war, it is becoming more and more obvious that Wolfowitz's predictions
are, at best, a joke approaching the fanciful, and, at worse, outright
intentionally misleading. When White House economic advisor Lawrence
Lindsay forwarded an estimate (September 2002) of the Iraq war at a
higher level of $100-$200 billion, the administration dismissed his
analysis as "likely very, very high" and promptly fired him (another
person who lost his job because he did it conscientiously and
professionally). Now it turns out that even his figures were wildly low.
According to Joseph Stiglitz, professor at Columbia University and Nobel
Prize winner in economics, and Linda Blimes, a Harvard budget expert,
the war in Iraq is likely to cost up to $2 trillion. The American
Conservative magazine says: "What is certain is that before hiring
him to run the World Bank, someone should have recalled Paul Wolfowitz's
prediction that Iraq would fund the operation itself." Normal people
under normal circumstances would have been fired, but not "Wolfie!"
However, even with this grim history in mind which they fear will
impact on their ability to address their global clients' needs and
fulfil their mission of addressing world poverty, World Bank staff have
even more immediate worries to contend with. What everybody in the Bank
perceives most evidently is the increasing rift between Wolfowitz and
his inner cabal of advisors and the staff at large. The problem is
manifesting itself on several levels.
In recent months, there had been a massive exodus of top talent from
the World Bank. The senior ethics officer of the bank has departed. Also
on the exit roster are the vice president for East Asia and the Pacific,
the chief legal counsel, the vice president for environmentally and
socially sustainable development, the bank's top managing director, the
director of institutional integrity (who monitors internal and external
corruption), and the head of the information solutions group.
Steve Clemons says in the Washington Note : "It looks as if

[IslamCity] Reaping the Fruits of Afflictions

2006-03-05 Thread Shahid Khan

 Reaping the Fruits of Afflictions

Abu Sa id and Abu Hurairah (Allah be pleased with them) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, No fatigue, nor disease, nor anxiety, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

This world is no more than a test in which all humans are bound to face some hardships and challenges that reveal their patience and steadfastness. The forms of this test are numerous and diverse: Some people suffer poverty, some suffer physical illnesses, some live in a state of insecurity, some are deprived of their cherished and beloved ones, and still others suffer psychiatric disorders. Referring to this fact, Allah says:

And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, loss of wealth and lives and fruits but give glad tidings to the As-Sabirun (the patient). Who, when afflicted with certain calamity say: Truly to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return. They are those on whom are the Salawat (who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones. (Al-Baqarah, 2:155-157)

Since trials and hardships are inevitable, Islam does not let them pass by without instructing Muslims on the best course of action or by guiding them to the safest and most appropriate attitude. The Hadith reveals one dimension of Islam s recipe for successfully dealing with life s challenges. In order to balance the negative effects posed by afflictions, Islam draws our attention to their expected fruit.

Abu Hurairah (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, He whom Allah intends good, He makes him to suffer from some affliction. (Al-Bukhari)

Abu Hurairah (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, A Muslim, male or female, continues to remain under trial in respect of his life, property, and offspring until he faces Allah, the Exalted, with no sin record. (At-Tirmidhi)

The above hadiths should not be mistaken for a call to fatalism and defeatism. The message the hadiths convey is that every Muslim should expect hardships and prepare to weather them. This point makes a distinction between one who trusts in Allah and believes in His mercy and one who feels that he is alone in this world, that  faces its formidable challenges isolated from any source of support or assistance. So, these hadiths are meant to infuse the Muslim with hope and vigor and drive away the destructive thoughts of failure and hopelessness. To get a better understanding of them, they should be considered light of the following hadiths:

Abu Hurairah (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, A strong believer is better and dearer to Allah than a weak one, and both are good. Adhere to that which is beneficial for you. Keep asking Allah for help and do not refrain from it. (If you are afflicted in any way), do not say: If I had taken this or that step, it would have resulted into such and such, but say only: Allah so determined and did as He willed. The word if opens the gates of satanic (thoughts). (Muslim)

In line with this hadith comes the Prophet s advice to his cousin Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) to know that with patience comes victory, with distress comes relief, and with hardship comes ease.

In this respect, one idea may be a source of worry and disturbance. How can we approach afflictions with such optimism when they are clear signs of Allah s wrath and manifestations of His punishment?

In his comment Imam Al-Qurtubi reports that `Ali (Allah be pleased with him) said, If my sins are to be expiated through afflictions and calamities, and in addition to that, Allah forgives many other sins, then what will remain after such expiation and forgiveness?

True, life s disasters leave hearts broken and loved ones deprived, but a true believer knows how turn them into a source of determination and a fountain of strength. I conclude with the beautiful authentic hadith in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) tells us that the people who face the harshest trial (bla ) are the prophets, then those next to them (in faith and devotion), and then the next. Everyone will be tried according to his level of faith; one who has strong faith will undergo a harsh trial and one who is of weak faith will receive a weak trial. And the affliction will encompass one until he becomes free of sins altogether.

[IslamCity] UK Islamic groups protest Arsenal-Israel tourist deal

2006-03-05 Thread Showkat Ali

UK Islamic groups protest Arsenal-Israel tourist deal March 03, 2006 The Islamic Human Rights Commission in London has called upon all campaigners to contact Arsenal FC to protest against the decision to sign a sponsorship deal to promote the Zionist regime of Israel as a tourist destination. The campaign is supported by the Palestinian Return Center, Innovative Minds, Friends of al Aqsa, the British Muslim Initiative, the Muslim Association of Britain, the Palestinian Forum in Britain and the Scottish-Palestinian Solidarity Campaign. Arsenal Football Club has just signed a sponsorship deal to
promote Israel as a tourist destination from next season. The Pounds 350,000 agreement makes Israel Arsenal's "official and exclusive travel destination," the IHRC said. Based on the deal, Israel will be featured on digital perimeter boards and 450 high-definition LCD screens at the stadium on game days and it will feature on the team's website and in its magazine. The televised ads will reach audiences in an estimated 198 countries and the Zionist Tourism Ministry will receive intellectual property rights, the use of the team logo and the right to use photos of the team and its players in ads. The ministry will be allowed to use the stadium banqueting hall twice a year and organize an exhibition at the end of the playing season. The stadium will hold permanent sale tables for Israel t-shirt.
The financial advisers Ernst & Young were employed to draft this proposal with the aim of bringing an extra 2 million tourists to Israel annually. "Israel is a racist apartheid state built upon the ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Arab population from Palestine. It has been so recognized by none other than anti-apartheid campaigners such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who has called for a complete boycott of Israel similar to that which ultimately resulted in the toppling of the apartheid South African regime," an IHRC statement added. Israel's apartheid policies include the segregation of West Bank roads by the military and the construction of a vast steel and concrete barrier through the West Bank and al-Quds. Dubbed the "apartheid wall" by human rights activists, because it forces communities apart and grabs land, it has been held to be in violation of international law by the International Court of Justice. Critics of plan to carve up the West Bank, apportioning pieces of territory to the Palestinians, draw comparisons with South Africa's "bantustans" - the nominally independent homelands into which millions of black men and women were herded. Israel's racial discrimination is daily life for most Palestinians, accruing special rights for Israeli Jews which are not available to non-Jews. Palestinian Arabs have no place in this "Jewish" state. Israel has deprived millions of Palestinians of their liberty and property. It has systematically incarcerated and tortured thousands of Palestinians, contrary
to the rules of international law and has, waged a war against a civilian population, in particular children. For Arsenal to sign a deal to promote such a state is to go against the very principles of `Kicking Racism out of Football', the London-based commission stressed. "Amazingly, Arsenal's Managing Director who signed the deal, Keith Edelman stated after the deal was signed, "We are in the forefront of the anti-racism campaign in England", the IHRC said, "This deal will no doubt put this reputation into serious question". IHRC urged all campaigners to contact Arsenal Football Club reminding them that Israel is a racist apartheid state which is consistently in breach of international law in its human rights abuses; and that such a deal endangers Arsenal's anti-racist reputation. "Contact the Football Associations' "Kick Racism out of Football" campaign reminding them that Israel is a racist apartheid state which is consistently in breach of
international law in its human rights abuses; and that such a deal endangers the FA's anti-racist reputation and the Kick it Out campaign itself." "Ask the FA to use its influence to prevent the deal going ahead," the statement read. Source: IRNA    Comment: Everyone knows that Israel is an apartheid state which is illigally occupying Muslim land and killing innocent Muslim civilians. Many Non-Muslims have condemned the Israeli state for being racist and practicing Apartheid. Its quite funny how Arsenal football club is located in an area with thousands of Muslims and has many Muslim supporters who attend their matches and buy their kits and other merchandise thus contributing to their financial success. Also Arsenal are involved with kick racism out of football campaign yet they are willing to have business
dealings with a racist state which has killed more Muslims than even the BNP.This just goes to show that among capitalist companies profits come before principles and Muslims need to be careful how we spend our money because we may just be unknowingly funding those

Iraqi
and visiting doctors, and a number of news reports, have reported that birth
defects and cancers in Iraqi children have increased five- to 10-fold since the
1991 Gulf War and continue to increase sharply, to over 30-fold in some areas
in southern Iraq.
Currently, more than 50 percent of Iraqi cancer patients are children under the
age of 5, up from 13 percent. Children are especially vulnerable because they
tend to play in areas that are heavily polluted by depleted uranium.

The Pentagon has been using radiooactive weapons for at least a decade and a
half with full complicity of at least three White House administrations and
Republican and Democratic congressional legislators. Conservatively, at least
300 tons and 1,700 tons of depleted uranium were used in the Gulf War and the
current Iraq
War, resectively. This is about 70 grams of depleted uranium per Iraqi citizen,
and if inhaled or ingested, it is enough to kill them all.

Is this not radioactive genocide, especially when our troops used and continue
to use most of the depleted uranium munitions in densely populated areas such
as Baghdad and
Fallujah? Depleted uranium has a half-life of billions of years. Consequently, Iraq will be a
wasteland forever and essentially uninhabitable for anyone.

After the 1991 Gulf War, about 1 in 4, or 150,000, U.S. veterans came down with what
is referred to as "Gulf War Syndrome." Most of the ailments
characteristic of Gulf War Syndrome are consistent with radiation or
heavy-metal poisoning. Veterans' children are now also born with higher
proportions of birth defects and other genetic disorders, according to sporadic
accuonts. The Pentagon continues to deny the harmful effects of depleted
uranium or its role in Gulf War Syndrome.

As described by a report of the World Health Organization Depleted Uranium Mission to Kosovo,
uranium can be found in rocks and soil and contributes to natural background
levels of radioactivity. Depleted uranium is a waste product of uranium
enrichment for nuclear reactors and is about 60 percent as radioactive as
naturally occurring uranium. Depleted uranium is considered weakly radioactive.

Nevertheless, depleted uranium is considered nuclear waste and has to be
disposed of accordingly, which is expensive and a potential environmental
hazard. The nuclear industry must be very pleased the U.S. military
has found a way to get this stuff off their hands cheaply.

Depleted uranium is really a misnomer, because the potentially harmful effects
are by no means depleted. Research reports have found that when depleted
uranium is ingested or inhaled, it can cause cancers and birth defects. It has
considerable heavy-metal toxicity.

As stated in the WHO report, because of its high density, depleted uranium is
used in armor-piercing ammunition and as reinforcement against conventional
weapons. Upon impact, the depleted uranium fragments burn at intense heat, and
10 to 35 percent of it becomes aerosolized. This aerosolized uranium
"dust" is the most harmful component because it can easily be
ingested or inhaled.

Wind and people walking through it also easily disperse the depleted uranium
dust. This dust is a predominant byproduct of military use of depleted uranium,
in contrast to, for example, exposures in uranium mines or nuclear reactors.

Our troops in Iraq
will be severely affected by this radioactive war, not only because a lot more
depleted uranium has been used and continues to be used, but also because they
have been there a lot longer than during the Gulf War. Hundreds of thousands of
our troops will come down with Gulf War Syndrome as a result of depleted
uranium poisoning, and thousands will die from it. Thousands of their children
will be born with genetic diseases, cancers and birth defects.

The continued use of depleted uranium harms our own troops and innocent
civilians exposed to our war machine, is un-American, and a crime against
humanity. We need a worldwide ban on depleted uranium use.

You have probably noticed Fairbanks Daily News-Miner
staff writer's reports as an "embedded journalist" with the 172nd
Stryker Brigade Combat Team in Mosul,
 Iraq. Her
"feel-good" stories do not tell you the reality of what is happening
in Iraq.
Will she report on depleted uranium poisoning as a result of heavy U.S. bombing of Mosul?

Sadly, she and those of the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, if they survive
the war, will have a high chance of coming down with Gulf War Syndrome. How
much support do you think they will then get from our government or their
employers?

[IslamCity] Chinese Prostitutes Arrested in Liberated Kabul 'Restaurant' Raids

2006-03-05 Thread Alan Border

Chinese Prostitutes Arrested in Kabul 'Restaurant' Raids By Justin Huggler, Asia Correspondent Published: 10 February 2006 http://news.independent.co.uk/world/asia/article344492.ece     Afghan police rounded up scores of suspects in a series of raids across Kabul yesterday. But this time the prisoners were not Taliban insurgents or Al-Qa'ida suspects. They were Chinese women - the notorious Chinese prostitutes of Kabul.
In the four years since the fall of the Taliban, an extraordinary number of "Chinese restaurants" have opened in Kabul. Although they have bright neon signs and menus, and they do sell food, most are simply fronts for prostitution.     AB [EMAIL PROTECTED] "For to us will be their return; then it will be for us to call them to account." Strike, protests paralyze Pakistan before Bush visit

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - An Islamist-organized nationwide strike
paralyzed Pakistan on Friday as it awaited the arrival of President
George W. Bush a day after a suicide car bomber killed an American
diplomat and two other people.

Bush was due to fly from New Delhi to Islamabad on Friday evening for
the last leg of his tour of South Asia, and was expected to discuss
progress in the war on terrorism in his talks with President Pervez
Musharraf on Saturday.

The largest protest took place in Multan in the central Punjab
province where the opposition leader in the National Assembly, Maulana
Fazl-ur-Rehman, addressed a 10,000-strong crowd.

The Muslim cleric told the protesters Bush's visit was aimed at
"enslaving the Pakistani nation and rewarding General Musharraf for
his patriotism to America".

White House national security adviser Stephen Hadley told reporters in
India Bush's visit to Pakistan, a nation shown by polls to be among
the most anti-American in the world, was not risk-free.

Security had been reinforced after the bomb attack outside the U.S.
consulate in Karachi, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao told
Reuters.

"We revisited the whole plan again, but it was already a foolproof
plan so a little bit of beefing up has been done."

FBI agents, according to Pakistani officials, have joined the
investigation into the suicide car bomb attack in Karachi, where the
diplomat, David Foy, and his driver were killed along with a
paramilitary trooper and the bomber.

Hadley said the attack was "a reminder that we're at war, and that
Pakistan is both an ally in the war on terror and in some sense a
battleground in the war on terror".

Bush was intent, he said, in showing solidarity with Musharraf, who
has survived several assassination attempts by al Qaeda-linked militants.

Bush has said that he would ask Musharraf to do more to shut down
militant camps on Pakistani soil and stop cross-border infiltration --
something the Afghan and Indian leaders he met earlier on his tour
have complained of.

In New Delhi, Bush agreed to provide Pakistan's traditional rival
India with American technical know-how for civilian nuclear power. No
such goodies were in store for Pakistan, though he was expected to
seek ways to expand bilateral trade.

Opposition groups were hoping Bush would also encourage Musharraf, who
came to power in a military coup seven years ago, to move faster to
strengthen democratic institutions ahead of a general election next year.

CARTOON PROTESTS

Nationwide protests, ostensibly over cartoons deemed blasphemous of
the Prophet Mohammad that originated in Denmark, were supported by
government and opposition parties alike.

But it is Pakistan's political Muslim clerics who have made most
capital over an issue they have used to express anti-American and
anti-Musharraf sentiments.

Friday's protests were supposed to be the climax of a month of
sometimes violent demonstrations that have resulted in a handful of
deaths.

Protesters from a 1,000-strong march in the southern city of Karachi
chased and beat a dog wrapped in the Stars and Stripes, while chanting
slogans of "Allah-o-Akbar", "Taliban zindabad", and "Mullah Omar
zindabad", or "God is Great", "Long live the Taliban" and "Long Live
Mullah Omar".

Islamist opposition leaders vowed more protests on Saturday.

Security operations were in overdrive in Islamabad, a small, quiet,
wooded city, ahead of Bush's arrival.

Sniffer dogs and electronic equipment were used to scour the airport
and surrounding area, and there were checkpoints at entry points to
the capital, while the broad Constitution Avenue leading to the
presidency, parliament, government ministries, and the diplomatic
enclave was closed off.

19 killed in
Baghdad attacksArmed men stormed an electricity
substation and killed Shia factory workers in overnight attacks that killed at
least 19 people in Baghdad's southeastern suburbs yesterday. Dozens of armed men
arrived in pickups and set fire to the station. In the adjacent Maamil suburb,
armed men shot to death 10 Shia  southerners employed at a brick factory as
they slept in their shacks. Police thought the armed men may have been part of
the group that attacked the power station. The government imposed the vehicle
ban yesterday in an effort to avert more attacks on the congregation of the
Jumu'ah prayers.

Muslims in
Athens wait for first mosqueIn a small, cold and
decrepit apartment in central Athens, scores of Muslims trip over each other to
find a space to pray as rain drips onto their heads from the leaky roof. But for
these faithful, there is no other choice. About 130 makeshift mosques like
this-windowless, airless basements or rooms in warehouses-are all these Muslims
have until the Greek capital’s first mosque is erected. A mosque has long been
planned for the estimated 150,000 Muslims living in Athens but has been held up
over objections from the powerful Orthodox Church. Athens has not had a
functioning mosque since the end of Ottoman rule in the early 1800s. The city
remains the only capital in western Europe without an Islamic place of

Tripoli’s historic compensation claim for decades of colonisation by Rome
remains unheeded. Qadhafi said rioters who sacked the Italian consulate in
Benghazi two weeks ago had wanted to kill the consul because Libyans "hate"

relations between Italy and its former North African colony. Italy’s Foreign

on Friday, accused international bodies of bias. The IAEA’s 35-nation board of

Egypt tortured
UK detaineesThree Britons who spent nearly four years in

had been repeatedly tortured for their political beliefs. The allegations came
after Reza Pankhurst, Ian Nisbet and Maajid Nawaz were freed by the Egyptian
authorities and returned to London’s main Heathrow Airport early on Wednesday
evening. All three freely admit to being members of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain,
which advocates the creation of a worldwide Islamic state. Although currently

speaking anonymously because of the sensitivity of the subject. The gunships
were designed primarily for battlefield use to place saturated fire on massed

[IslamCity] suicide by smoking

Subject: suicide by smoking

  Suicide by
  Smoking
  by Mustafa
  Madani

  Most Muslims are
aware of and try to avoid the major sins in Islam - murder, suicide, adultery,
alcohol, gambling, usury, etc. Muslims are forbidden to harm themselves or
others. Yet millions of Muslims all over the world are doing just that -
harming, even killing themselves and their families. Islamic scholars have
historically had mixed views on the subject, and the actions of these Muslims
have not been unanimously forbidden or even discouraged.

  The danger is
tobacco use - cigarette and cigar smoking, chew, etc. The mixed views on the
subject came about because cigarettes are a more recent invention and did not
exist at the time of the revelation of the Qur'an in the 7th century A.D.
Therefore, one cannot find a verse of Qur'an or words of the Prophet Muhammad
(peace be upon him) saying clearly that "Cigarettee smoking is forbidden."
However, there are many instances where the Qur'an gives us general
guidelines, and calls upon us to use our reason and intelligence, and seek
guidance from Allah about what is right and wrong. In the Qur'an, Allah says,
he [the Prophet] commands them what is
just, and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good,
and prohibits them from what is bad..." (Surah al-Ar'af 7:157). So
what are the evils of tobacco use, for your health and for your deen (religion)?

  1. Danger to your
  health

  Allah
  says,"...make not your own hands
  contribute to your destruction..."(Surah al-Baqarah 2:195,
  );"...nor kill yourselves..."
(Surah al-Nisaa 4:29). It is universally understood that cigarette smoking
causes a number of health problems that often ultimately result in death. Men
who smoke contract lung cancer at 22 times the rate of non-smokers. Smokers
are also highly at risk for heart disease, emphysema, oral cancer, stroke,
etc. There are hundreds of poisonous and toxic ingredients in the cigarette
itself that the smoker inhales straight into the lungs. In an authentic
hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that "Whomsoever drinks
poison, thereby killing himself, will sip this poison forever and ever in the
  fire of Jahannam (Hell)." Over
3 million people worldwide die from smoking-related causes each year.

  2. Danger to your
  family's health

  In the Qur'an,
Allah says: "Those who annoy believing men
and women undeservedly bear on themselves a glaring sin" (Surat al-Ahzaab 33:58).

  The Prophet (peace
be upon him) said that "there should be neither harming, nor reciprocating
harm." In another hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Anyone who
believes in Allah and the Last Day should not hurt his neighbor." Those around
the smoker inhale what is known as "second-hand smoke" - the unfiltered,
poisonous waste that goes in the air around the smoker. There are over 4,000
chemicals in cigarette smoke, over 40 of which are known to cause cancer.
Second-hand smoke causes or aggravates asthma, bronchitis, and other
  respiratory problems, especially in children.

  3. Addictive

  The addiction to
tobacco is a physical response that often interferes with one's life and
worship. For example, most Muslims are aware that it is forbidden to smoke
during the fasting days of Ramadan. Many of these addicted smokers spend their
fasting days sleeping, cranky, and short-tempered, just counting the hours
until they can have their fix. There have been times when the most severely
addicted will wait outside the masjed door for the adhan, and break their fast
by lighting up, before taking even food or water.

  4. Noxious Smell

  Muslims are
advised to refrain from eating raw onions and garlic - simply as a courtesy to
those around them. Nobody likes the smell. The same goes even more so for the
reek of cigarettes, which permeates everything around the smoker - hair,
clothing, home, car, etc. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: whoever has
eaten from such greens as garlic, onions or leek should keep away from our
mosque.?Many smokers try to hide the smell by using breath mints or perfume.
This does not get rid of the smell, it only masks it. Often the combination of
  smells is even more nauseating.
  5. Waste of Money

  Allah says,
"...But spend not wastefully (your wealth)
in the manner of a spendthrift. Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the
  devils...?"{Surah al-Israa17:26-27}

  In an authentic
hadith the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that: "Allah hates for you three
things: gossiping, begging, and wasting money." In the U.S. and other
countries, cigarettes are taxed heavily in order to discourage this habit and
  reimburse the government for t

[IslamCity] Living the Qur'an: A Great Gift

2006-03-05 Thread Sadia Qureshi

Living the Quran Al-Rahman (The Merciful)Chapter 55: Verses 1-4     A Great Gift"The Most Gracious Allah has taught the Quran; He has created man; He has taught him speech.”      The tongue and the language are great gifts of Allah. These gifts that Allah has given him makes him superior to all other creatures.     The greater the gift, the higher would be its re-payment. Being grateful for it is as necessary as being ungrateful is reprehensible.      Before addressing others take a glance at yourself,
and ask yourself whether this is an occasion which demands speaking. If the answer is in the affirmative, then speak, otherwise silence is much better. To avoid talking unnecessarily on appropriate occasions is a worship of great rewards.     Abdullah Ibn Abbas says: "Five things are more valuable than the horses with the black-striped legs:      1. Do not indulge in senseless talk, because it is useless and absurd.      2. Talk purposefully when there is an occasion for it.     3.
Do not indulge in hot discussion with an intelligent man or with a fool. If he is intelligent, he will be angry with you and will hate you, and if he is a fool and uneducated, he will try to harm you.      4. In the absence of your brother speak of him in the same words in which you would like him to speak of you in your absence, and consider him innocent of the thing which you would like him to consider you innocent of.      5. Act like a man who thinks that he will be rewarded for a good deed and will be punished on committing a crime."      A Muslim can develop these
attributes in himself only when he keeps his tongue in control, and is able to keep silent wherever necessary. He should be able to hold the reins of his tongue in his hand; wherever necessary he should speak, and wherever it is not necessary he should keep quiet.      Those who are ruled by their tongue, they are pushed back, and in the fields of life they receive insults and disrepute.    Source:"Muslim's Character" - Muhammad Al-Ghazali
