[IslamCity] Distortion of the Qur'aan [Qur'an, Quran] by the Raafidis

Distortion of the Qur'aan [Qur'an, Quran] by the Raafidis

Question:

I have also heard by a shia collegue that their is a surat in their book which
is not in the QURAN. can u confirm this? the surat in qs is called SURAT
AL-WILAYAT.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah [Allah].

With regard to Soorat al-Wilaayah, some of the Shi'ah scholars and imams have
stated that it exists. Any of them who denies that does so by way of taqiyah
(dissimulation). One of those who clearly stated that it exists is Mirza
Hussein Muhammad Taqiy al-Noori al-Tubrusi (d. 1320 AH). He wrote a book in
which he claimed that the Qur'aan [Qur'an, Quran] had been distorted and that
the Sahaabah has concealed some parts of it, including Soorat al-Wilaayah. The
Raafidis honoured him after his death by burying him in al-Najaf. This book by
al-Tubrusi was published in Iran in 1298 AH, and when it was published there
was a great deal of controversy because they wanted the doubts about the
validity of the Qur'aan [Qur'an, Quran], which were known only to their
leaders, to remain scattered throughout hundreds of their major books, and they
did not want that to be compiled in one book. At the beginning of his book he
said:

"This is a good and noble book entitled Fasl al-khitaab fi ithbaat tahreef
Kitaab Rabb il-Arbaab (Decisive comment on the distortion of the Book of the
Lord of Lords)… He mentioned aayahs and soorahs which he claims that the
Sahaabah concealed, including `Soorat al-Wilaayah,'" the text of which,
according to them, and as quoted in this book, is:

"O you who believe, believe in the Prophet and the Wali [i.e., `Ali] whom We
have sent to guide you to the straight path, a Prophet and a Wali who are part
of one another, and I am the All-Knowing, All-Aware…"

And they have another soorah which they call Soorat al-Noorayn: "O you who
believe, believe in the two lights (al-noorayn) which We have sent down to you
to recite to you My Verses and to warn you of the punishment of a great Day.
They are part of one another and I am the All-Hearing, All-Knowing. Those who
fulfil the covenant with Allaah [Allah] and His Messenger mentioned in the
verses (of the Qur'aan [Qur'an, Quran]), the Gardens of delight will be theirs,
but those who disbelieve after they believed by breaking their covenant and
disobeying the command of the Prophet, they will be thrown into Hell. They have
wronged themselves and gone against the wasiyyah of the Prophet (i.e., the
appointment of `Ali as khaleefah), and they will be given to drink of boiling
water…" and other such nonsense.

You can see the entire soorah, along with a telegraphic picture of the Persian
mus-haf at the following site:

http://arabic.islamicweb.com/shia/nurain.htm

Prof. Muhammad `Ali Sa'oodi _ who was one of the greatest experts of the
Ministry of Justice in Egypt _ examined an Iranian mus-haf kept by the
Orientalist Bryan and he obtained a copy of this soorah; above the lines of
Arabic script there is written the translation in the Iranian language.

As it was mentioned by al-Tubrusi in his book, Fasl al-khitaab fi ithbaat
tahreef Kitaab Rabb il-Arbaab, it is also mentioned in their book Dabastan
Madhaahib, which is in Farsi, written by Muhsin Faani al-Kashmiri. This book
has been printed numerous times in Iran, and this false soorah was quoted from
it by the Orientalist Noeldeke in his book The History of Qur'anic Manuscripts,
2/120, and was published by the French Asian newspaper in 1842

(p. 431-439).

It was also mentioned by Mirza Habibullaah al-Haashimi al-Kho'i in his book
Manhaaj al-Baraa'ah fi Sharh Nahj al-Balaaghah (2/217); and by Muhammad Baaqir
al-Majlisi in his book Tadhkirat al-A'immah (p. 19, 20) in Farsi, (published
by) Manshoorat Mawlana, Iran.

See also al-Khutoot al-`Areedah li'l-Asas allati qaama `alayha deen al-Shi'ah
by Muhibb al-Deen al-Khateeb.

This claim of theirs is a denial of the words of Allaah [Allah] (interpretation
of the meaning):

"Verily, We, it is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur'aan [Qur'an,
Quran]) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)"

[al-Hijr 15:9]

Hence the Muslims are unanimously agreed that anyone who claims that anything
in the Qur'aan [Qur'an, Quran] has been altered or changed is a kaafir.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said:

The same applies to those among them who claim that some verses of the Qur'aan
[Qur'an, Quran] have been taken away or concealed, or who claim to have some
esoteric interpretations that exempt him from having to do the actions
prescribed in sharee'ah etc., who are called al-Qaraamitah and al-Baatiniyyah,
and who include al-Tanaasukhiyyah [names of esoteric sects]. There is no
dispute that they are kaafirs.

Al-Saarim al-Maslool, 3/1108-1110.

Ibn Hazm said:

The view that the Qur'aan [Qur'an, Quran] has been altered is blatant kufr and

[IslamCity] Miscellaneous Questions on Islamic Belief & Practices

2006-03-09 Thread Alan Border

Miscellaneous Questions on Islamic Belief & Practices Adil Salahi, Arab News http://www.arabnews.com/?page=5§ion=0&article=66599&d=18&m=7&y=2005     Question A group of people meets every Friday night in the mosque to recite the Qur’an, offer night worship and stay until the dawn prayer. When they have offered the dawn prayer, they depart. Is their practice recommended?     Answer No, their practice is certainly not recommended. In fact it runs contrary to the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) teachings. Abu Hurayrah quotes the Prophet as saying: “Do not single out the night of Friday for special night worship.” (Related by
Muslim). This is a clear Hadith that shows that the practice of these people is the very thing the Prophet advised against. We need to remember that Friday counts as a day of Eid, and the Prophet has made it clear that it should not be singled out for voluntary fasting, unless one wishes to fast a day before it or a day after it. In the same way, Friday night may not be singled out for special prayer or tahajjud. Moreover, staying in the mosque for a whole day is recommended in the last ten days of Ramadan, but not on other days, unless it is something done once in a while.      Question If a person is required to slaughter
seven sheep for mistakes done during the pilgrimage, is it sufficient for him to slaughter a cow or a camel?     Answer No, it is not permissible to combine atonements in this way, even though it is permissible for seven people to share in the sacrifice of one cow or one camel instead of sacrificing seven sheep. In the latter case, the sacrifice is made to express gratitude to God for enabling us to do the pilgrimage and the Umrah in the same season. In compensatory sacrifice, this is made in atonement for mistakes or omissions. Hence, the better option is preferred, and seven sheep provide more meat to the poor than one camel or one cow. Hence, it cannot be
combined.     Question I want to accompany my mother during her pilgrimage. Will it be necessary for me to perform the pilgrimage myself, or can I travel with her in my ordinary clothes, as I have already done my pilgrimage?     Answer You may choose to accompany your mother without offering the pilgrimage yourself. However, it is infinitely better for you to offer the pilgrimage as this would count as a Sunnah pilgrimage. You will be
accompanying your mother throughout, attending at all places, and taking her to do all her rituals. You may just as well fulfill the same duties at the same time, unless your mother requires extra care and you will be better able to look after her if you do not do the pilgrimage. In this case, you are better advised not to do the pilgrimage.      Question It is said that God descends to the nearest heaven late in the night. This means that He remains there round the clock as midnight occurs at every moment in
one spot or another. Why is it said that God descends, instead of saying that He is always there?     Answer We do not know how God descends or comes near to the lowest heaven. What we know is that time and place do not apply to God, because He transcends these. All that is related to God belongs to the realm that is beyond the reach of human perception. However, it is expressed in terms that we can understand. We accept these as they are, but we do not actually know how they happen. Therefore, it is wrong to say that God is always close to the earth, because this means that a place or space applies to Him. However, He is always close to us, watching over us, and watching us. He says that He is closer to
every one of us than our jugular veins.     Question Since it is permissible to give interest given by one’s bank to poor people, can one give it to an imam, or to the teacher of an Islamic school if they are very poor?     Answer If the imam or the teacher are poor as you say, then it is permissible to help them with the interest paid by the bank in addition to helping them with sadaqah and zakah.     Question What is the difference between a prophet and a messenger?     Answer A messenger is a prophet who is given a message to deliver to his people, or to mankind, as in the case of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). A prophet may not have a message of his own, but rather he endorses the message of an earlier or contemporary messenger.     Question You said once that it is permissible to have a life insurance policy, but such a policy pays a person more than he pays into it, which I think is interest. Please clarify.     Answer Life insurance policies pay on maturity more than the amount paid into them because the premiums paid by the insured are invested by the insurance company. Therefore, it is important to know in what ways the insurance company invests its customers’ money. If it invests them in usurious transactions, one should not take that policy. If it invests in commercial enterprises, this
is perfectly legitimate.     AB [EMAIL PROTECTED]

  Tariq Ramadan

IN COPENHAGEN last October, as demonstrations provoked by the
Danish cartoons were starting, a reporter from the newspaper that
published them told me during an interview how intensely the
editorial staff had debated the issue and how many of the
journalists were uncomfortable with the publication of the
cartoons and surprised by the strong reaction from Muslims and the
Arab embassies. At the time, the tension seemed to remain within
  Danish borders.

To the Danish Muslims denouncing a racist behavior, a
provocation that was to be capitalized on by the expanding
far-right political wing, my advice was to avoid reacting
emotionally, to try to explain quietly why these cartoons were
offensive and to neither demonstrate nor risk activating mass
movements impossible to master. At the time, a resolution seemed
  to be at hand.

One might ask then, why is it that three months later, some are
pouring fuel on the fire of a controversy with tragic and
  potentially out-of-control consequences?

A few Danish Muslims recently visited some Middle Eastern
countries and fanned the flames of resentment. Governments, only
too happy to prove their attachment to Islam, took advantage of
this and presented themselves as champions of the great cause. On
the other side, this was just what some politicians,
intellectuals, and journalists needed to paint themselves as
champions of the great struggle for freedom of _expression_ and
resistance fighters against religious obscurantism in the name of
  Western values.

Here we are, facing an incredible simplification, a simplistic
polarization: It would be a matter of a clash of civilizations,
with the inalienable freedom of speech in one corner and the
inviolable sacred sphere in the other.

Presented in such terms the debate has, unfortunately, become a
battle of wills. Who is going to win? Muslims want apologies,
  threaten to attack European interests, even to attack people;
Western governments, intellectuals, and journalists refuse to bend
under the threats and certain media outlets added to the
controversy by republishing the cartoons. The majority of people
around the world are perplexed about these excesses: What madness
  has gripped the world?

It is critical to find a way out of this infernal circle and to
demand from those fueling this fire to stop their polemics and to
create a space for a serious, open, and in-depth debate and
  peaceful dialogue.

No, this is not a predicted clash of civilizations. This affair
does not symbolize the confrontation between the principles of
Enlightenment and those of religion. What is at stake at the heart
of this story is a measure of whether or not the parties have the
capacity to be free, rational (believer or atheist), and, at the
  same time, reasonable.

The fracture is not between the West and Islam but between
those who, in both universes, are able to assert who they are and
what they stand for with measure in the name of a faith and/or a
rational reason and those driven by exclusive certainties, blind
passions, reductive perceptions of the other, and hasty
conclusions. These character traits are shared by some
intellectuals, religious scholars, journalists, and the ordinary
people on both sides. Facing the dangerous drifts these attitudes
entail, it is urgent to launch a call for wisdom.

[IslamCity] PRACTICE MEDITATION Part 3

2006-03-09 Thread Soul Power

Practice Meditation – Part 3      Meditation in Islam aims at bringing man closer to God. When man worships God, when he remembers Him, when his heart is turned towards Him in full concentration, when he makes a request or a plea, then he establishes a
rapport with his Maker. In the words of the Hadith, at that particular moment he comes to whisper with his Lord. He has the tangible feeling that he is pouring his heart out to God and that God in turn is answering his call.     When this communion is established between God and man, man can feel himself becoming imbued with a special kind of peace. His eyes are moist with tears. He starts receiving inspiration from God. It is in moments such as these that man can rest assured of his prayers being granted by God.   According to a hadith the Prophet Muhammad said the highest form of worship is to pray as if you were seeing God. We learn from this hadith the true sign of a superior form of worship. The true sign is for man to sense the presence of God during worship, and feel that he has come close to God. That is when he can experience the refreshing, cooling effect of God’s love and blessings for man. It is this feeling of closeness to God which is the highest form of spiritual experience.        That is Allah, your Lord. There is no god but Him, the Creator of everything. So worship Him. He is responsible for everything. (6:102)     Those who
are in the presence of your Lord do not consider themselves too great to worship Him. They glorify His praise and they prostrate to Him. (7:206)     I am Allah. There is no god but Me, so worship Me and perform prayer to remember Me. (20:14) (Al-Quaran) Soul Power

[IslamCity] Open letter to Jim Nicola re: "My Name Is Rachel Corrie"

2006-03-09 Thread Yusuf Toropov

Mr. Nicola:

John Heilpern writes:

For me, the most disturbing aspect of the craven postponement of the production of My Name Is Rachel Corrie isn't that it happened, but that it was the adventurous downtown New York Theatre Workshop that did the postponing.

We have reached the unacceptable face of the New York arts scene when the theater that produced the original Rent—and,
more to the point, the conscience plays of Tony Kushner and Caryl
Churchill—should cave in like this to peculiar, unspecific pressure.

We've
heard about unnamed Zionist pressure groups and anonymous theater
donors who object to the telling of a humane story about a utopian
23-year-old American girl who was killed by an Israeli bulldozer in the
Gaza Strip as she protested the destruction of a Palestinian's home. A Scandal for our Times: Rachel Corrie Ignites Uproar
.

John Heilpern asked you: "How
many members of the Jewish community in New York have made their
feelings known to you opposing the play?" (i.e., the London production
of "My Name Is Rachel Corrie.")   You replied: "I
haven't personally spoken to any members of the Jewish community who've
opposed the play. I have spoken to many Jewish friends
who have had degrees of discomfort with the topic."
***
Yesterday's NEW YORK TIMES, however, painted a very different picture, and featured some truly chilling words:

"... production of the controversial British
play 'My Name Is Rachel Corrie' was delayed at the New York Theatre Workshop because of political concerns ..." (New York Times, Tuesday, March 7, 2005,
page B1).
Theatre production stalled. Because of political concerns.
That's not in Cuba or Iran
or Sudan or
Saudi Arabia or North Korea. That's Manhattan.
According to the TIMES, you "said
last week that (you) had decided
to postpone the show after polling local Jewish leaders as to their feelings about the play, which follows the
story of Rachel Corrie, an idealistic American demonstrator who was crushed to
death by an Israeli bulldozer in March 2003 while trying to prevent the
destruction of a home in the Gaza Strip." (same article, page B8).
Your web site reads in part: "...our intent in asking for the postponement was to allow us enough time
to contextualize the work ..." --
whatever that means.
You have apparently contextualized yourself right out of a production.  Is it credible for you to maintain now that you are are unaware of that?

The Royal Court
Theatre in London, where the play premiered and was a hit, is
currently shopping the piece to other venues in New York, according to the Times. It opens in a new run on the West End later this month.

A spokesperson for the Royal Court
Theatre told the Times that press releases had been finalized,  budgets
approved, flights booked, and tickets listed for sale at New York Theatre
Workshop.

"Contextualizing" the piece at this late date apparently means caving in to
"political concerns" -- not my phrase, the TIMES's phrase -- to avoid
producing the show and thus avoid offending supporters of Israel. Is that kind of acquiescence to political pressure the legacy your theater has championed?

Lacking a date for production, what possible logic can lead you now maintain, as your web site presently does, that, "Our commitment to 'My Name
is Rachel Corrie' " has never wavered'"?

Inclusivity won't deny the Jewish holocaust. The Asper Holocaust Museum was recently renamed the Canadian Museum of Human Rights -- it is self-evident that the Jewish holoocaust was extremely tragic. It is, however, no more tragic than the simultaneous Nazi holocaust of the estimated 5.5 million other "enemies of the German State" who were murdered under equally inhumane circumstances
-- Roma Gypsies, Poles, the disabled, mentally ill, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, socialists and political opponnents to Nazism. (http://www.mtsu.edu/~baustin/gypsies.html)It is also no more tragic than the holocaust by Lon Nol and Pol Pot against the Cambodian people where half of the population were wiped out, but which was reported on the back pages of most newspapers of the time. It is also no more tragic than the Black holocaust created by slavery. It is also no more tragic than the silent holocaust against the Palestinian people by Israel. A person is a person, each life is sacred. All of these and additional holocausts and genocides must be included equitably in the museum, otherwise the museum will only generate misinformation, resentment, and anti-Semitism; not education and healing. It is reported that Canadian taxpayers will contribute over $140 million (James Kafieh, president Canadians for a Genocide Museum)
towards what is essentially the Aspers' private museum. Canadian taxpayers do not want to support a public museum which violates the history and pain of some groups, by giving exclusivity and priority to the history and pain of one group. Apparently it is taboo to ask this question, but is the staunchly pro-Israel Aspers' remembrance of the Jewish holocaust for the purpose of honouring the dead, or aslo to make non-Jews feel guilty and thus turn a blind eye to the Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people? [IslamCity] OPIN: Israeli Policy of Assassination

2006-03-09 Thread Abdul Alim

Wednesday, 8, March, 2006 (07, Safar, 1427)     Editorial: Policy of Assassination8 March 2006   It is official. The elected leadership of the Palestinians will become targets for assassination if there is a suicide attack in Israel and Tel Aviv decides that Hamas is responsible. No evidence will be needed. Israel’s defense minister, Shaul Mofaz, has said so. This chilling threat demonstrates the contempt in which Israel and Washington hold the democratic process if the result of the election does not suit them.      The world rightly
condemned the 2001 slaying of hard-line Israeli tourism minister Rehavam Zeevi by PFLP militants. The Palestinian Authority was no less strident in deploring the crime but called upon Israel to stop the murders of leading Palestinians. That policy of eradicating key opponents, however, continued, culminating in the assassination of the two top Hamas leaders, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and Abdel Aziz Al-Rantissi in 2004.     Now that the Israelis have stated publicly that they will, if they wish, kill Hamas politicians chosen by the electorate just six weeks ago, it will be instructive to see which Western governments, if any, denounce the policy for the international political thuggery that it is. The world ought to be looking closely also at the way that the new premier designate, Ismail Haniyeh, has been setting out his political aims, taking advantage of the invitation to visit Russia when other countries were hamstrung
by their refusal to talk to Hamas. There is still no sign that Hamas will recognize Israel’s right to exist until it ends the occupation nor renounce the violence which they see as a legitimate response to Israeli aggression. Such changes depend upon a corresponding agreement from the Israelis.     Meanwhile, Haniyeh is making it refreshingly clear that Palestine must no longer be used as a political football by outsiders intent purely on strengthening their own political agendas. Saddam Hussein obscenely offered to leave Kuwait if the Israelis pulled out of the West Bank and Gaza. Indonesia’s Jemmah Islamia justified its crimes in the name of the plight of the Palestinians. And now Al-Qaeda’s No. 2, Ayman Al-Zawahiri has once again tried to identify his terrorist organization’s depravities with the Palestinian cause. Hamas’ reaction has been to suggest Zawahiri and his partners in crime mind their own business. The
Palestinian cause is no longer going to be hijacked by others. This is an act of statesmanship which demonstrates a Palestinian confidence and maturity that the outside world should take careful note of. For all the apparent complications of the Hamas election victory, the issue of Palestine may actually have become simpler. Palestinians have tried moderate, soft-talking leaders who, since Oslo, have been strung out by the Israelis and betrayed by the international community. Now maybe for the first time, Palestinians can negotiate with Israelis as equals, not oppressed supplicants. Israel of course will do what it can to avoid substantive talks by discrediting Hamas any way it can. Zawahiri’s headline-grabbing intervention on Al-Jazeera might have helped them had not Hamas so swiftly and decisively rejected it.           http://www.arabnews.com/?page=7§ion=0&article=78905&d=8&m=3&y=2006

[IslamCity] painful interview of Mutahana Hareth Al-Dari, spokesman of the influential Iraqi Association of Muslim Scholars.

2006-03-09 Thread S A Hannan

Dear editor/ members of the list,

Assalamu Alaikum. Please see the painful interview
of  Mutahana Hareth Al-Dari, spokesman of the influential Iraqi Association
of Muslim Scholars.
Shah Abdul Hannan

There is ethnic cleansing"
Mutahana Hareth Al-Dari, spokesman of the influential Iraqi
Association of Muslim Scholars, tells Amira
Howeidy that the time has come for everyone, including Sunnis,
to arm themselves

Al-Dari

  On the
  brink
  Before
  and after Askariya
  The myth
  of civil war
  Living

  The

  Sedition

"..any voice that says "No" gets killed. They want to clear the
scene to execute their plans of maintaining the sectarian and
ethnic dominance that we see today. This is why Iraqis migrate in
massive numbers... Yes. There is ethnic, sectarian and political
cleansing and it is executed by [Iraq's] security forces."

As Iraq falls near to the abyss of civil war, a security clampdown
on the Iraqi Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS) twice this week went
almost unnoticed. On Monday, US forces supported by other unidentified
armed groups raided the headquarters of the influential and largely
Sunni Association and arrested two of its main leaders.
Al-Ahram Weekly caught up with the AMS's spokesman, Mutahana
Hareth Al-Dari, 37, during a visit to Cairo where he was putting the
final touches on the soon-to-be-launched AMS satellite channel
Al-Rafedein, to be based in Cairo.
During the interview, Al-Dari cautiously avoided adopting what
could be interpreted as a sectarian discourse but argued that there are
forms of ethnic cleansing occurring in Iraq.
When asked about the role of Muqtada Al-Sadr's Mahdi Army in last
week's sectarian violence, Al-Dari declined to comment. According to
informed Iraqi sources who spoke to the Weekly on condition of
anonymity the Mahdi army has been "infiltrated" by the Badr
Organisation, the military wing of the Supreme Council for Islamic
Revolution in Iraq and other state-sponsored militias. And as a result,
Al-Sadr gradually lost direct control over his militia which is now
associated with sectarian violence in Iraq. AMS considers Al-Sadr, who
is of Arab origin, a nationalist figure and ally.
Excerpts:
The Washington Post reported that 1300 Iraqis,
mostly Sunnis, were killed in the violence that erupted following the
blast in Al-Askariya Mosque in Samarra. Has the civil war started in
Iraq?
No. God willing, it won't start. There are attempts to ignite a civil
war.
How then do you describe what's happening in Iraq? What's a civil
war if this isn't one?
There were prospects of a civil war but they were contained. But the
fire will remain underneath the ashes. The forces that were behind the
recent crisis will work on igniting it again. Civil war will begin when
some forces lose their conscious awareness; I mean the forces which are
armed with patience and who endure pain rather than slip into
fitna (civil strife). When that happens there will be civil war.
But thank God, they chose the general interest of the people over
personal interest.
As for the number of Iraqis killed in the past week, the AMS already
announced that the death toll exceeds 300. This was confirmed today when
the general manager of Al-Teb Adli hospital and its morgue said they
have 329 bodies. Then of course there are tens of bodies that were
buried by their families before they reached the morgue. So we're
actually talking about approximately 400. The 1300 figure is an
exaggeration, a way to pour fuel to the fire. A death toll of 400 is not
a small figure either.
Reports from Iraq Tuesday said that Sunnis from across Iraq are
sending or preparing to send weapons to Baghdad to protect Sunnis and
their mosques. Can you confirm this? Do the Sunnis need to be armed?

This need has existed for a long time now. Long before the recent
violence, the current government and the security apparatus
unfortunately exercised many forms of terrorism against citizens ...

[IslamCity] The Crime of Samara is the Work of America aimed at Igniting Tensions

2006-03-09 Thread Showkat Ali

The Crime of Samara is the Work of America aimed at Igniting Tensions amongst the Muslims O Muslims, O People of Iraq, Has the time not come for you to understand that the occupying forces in Iraq, under the leadership of America, are the source of all the tribulations and excessive evil? Has the time not come for you to understand that it is the occupying forces that are behind the bombing of the mosques and the markets, the killing of civilians and the assassination and abduction of the Muslim scholars, both Sunni and Shi’a? Has the time not come for you to understand that relying on the occupying forces, taking them into your confidence, considering them as your allies or giving them
justification to remain in Iraq, is not but a path to increase and aggravate the crimes? The occupying forces are in a quagmire in Iraq, on the brink of drowning in their defeats and their casualties. Whenever the trap they put themselves in intensifies upon them, they orchestrate a crime here and another there. After they prepare the crime scene to make it seem as if the Sunnis are behind what is afflicting the Shi’a, and that the Shi’a are behind what is afflicting the Sunnis, and thus making both sides clash with each other, they remain safe and secure, observing the situation from a distance. It is no coincidence that the crime of Samara occurred soon after the announcement of sectarianism by the American Ambassador in the ministry of defense and internal affairs. O
Muslims, The one who follows the explosions of the resting place of the two Imams (may Allah be pleased with them both) in Samara will see clearly that this action is not the doing of ordinary people. Nay, it is the action of a professional and systematic state apparatus. The severe destruction that occurred indicates that the explosives used had the most precise design in terms of quantity and quality, to the extent that they were placed in the precise area from where they could not miss the target. Furthermore, we must also consider the fact that the place which was bombed was not any ordinary neglected place. On the contrary it was heavily guarded. So how is it possible that such a crime be executed with such precision with the perpetrators also withdrawing safely, except with the systematic support
of those dominating, those who possess the power and authority in the land? What happened in Samara was of the planning and execution of the occupying forces and her assailants, and it is a calamity. However what is worse and more detestable is the occupying forces achieving their objective by making the Muslims, Sunni and Shi’a, fight amongst each other. The news spread after the incidence of the crime about the occurrence of abduction and killing of Sunni scholars and the damaging of their mosques, followed by what was heard of the killings of some prisoners and journalists. These further facilitated the occupying forces, particularly America, to achieve their goals by causing sectarian mischief. Indeed, America and Britain and all the occupying forces, are ruthless in their treatment of the
Muslims. As we see them and their assailants behind the bombing of the mosque in Samara, we do not doubt that they have a hand, many hands, in the incidents that followed in order to make the events seem to be sectarian fight between Muslims. O Muslims O People of Iraq, Hizb ut-Tahrir emphasises three realities for you in order to shed light upon this situation: Firstly: it is the occupying forces, with America at their head, who are behind the incidences of killing civilians, bombing markets and mosques, abducting scholars and killing those who are sincere to their Deen and Ummah. As for the Muslim, he is the one who resists the occupier and does not harm his people, his markets or his mosques, for the killing of a Muslim without a right is worse in the sight if Allah than the destruction of the Ka’bah and then the demise of the world. Indeed the Muslim in his wars against his enemies does not kill an elderly man or a child or a woman, nor does he destroy a place of worship or kill the worshippers therein. The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: « لَزَوَالُ الدُّنْيَا أَهْوَنُ
عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ قَتْلِ مُؤْمِنٍ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ » “The destruction of the world is easier on Allah than the killing of a believer without right” (Ibn Majah) And he (saw) said as advice to the departing army: انْطَلِقُوا بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ وَبِاللَّهِ
وَأَصْلِحُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا » « إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ “Go in the name of Allah and with His help and on the way of the Messenger of Allah. Do not kill an elderly man or a child or an infant or a woman and do not steal. Gather your spoils and do what you do with excellence. Indeed Allah loves those who do good.” (Abu Dawud) Secon

[IslamCity] American agenda rules Pakistan

2006-03-09 Thread S A Hannan

Dear editor / members of the list,

Assalamu Alaikum. I am sending to you an important
article   American agenda
rules Pakistan By Senator Qazi Hussain Ahmad
Amir Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan and
Chairperson, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal for your
information.

Shah Abdul Hannan

American agenda rules
PakistanBy Senator Qazi
Hussain AhmadAmir
Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan andChairperson, Muttahida
Majlis-e-Amal
President Bush is visiting Pakistan by
squeezing precious time from his occupation in the large-scale security
issues Washington has created for itself all over the world. Therefore,
his visit purely aims at securing Washington's strategic interests in the
region with the help of his ally General Musharraf at a time when US
troops are facing a retreat in Afghanistan and Iraq due to massive public
  resistance.
  Contrary to the expectations generated
by the pro-government lobbies and opinion makers, this visit has nothing
to do with any strategic interests of the state of Pakistan. Washington
has time and again in the recent past proved that it considers India as
the most trusted partner in South Asia and the Bush administration has
openly declared Delhi its 'Natural Strategic Ally' for its long term
interests in the region. Naturally, Bush's visit will focus on
strengthening India's position in the region against rivals like China and
Pakistan, and protecting its interests at all costs.
It has been an open secret that,
besides uprooting Islamic fundamentalism, Washington's prime objective in
the region is to help India become a regional super power to counter
China's economic, strategic and military growth so that Beijing is
confined to the Asian region and blocking its march towards expanding its
strategic interest all over the world. To achieve this objective
Washington wants to force Pakistan to acknowledge Indian hegemony in the
region and solve the Kashmir issue for the sake of Delhi's strategic
interests. The recent inking of Washington's nuclear cooperation agreement
with India is an ample proof of that.
The Bush administration is trying to
make both countries acknowledge the LoC as international border, with
slight changes and the Kashmiri people should remain contended with a
temporary and limited internal autonomy. This offer of limited internal
autonomy is actually a political trap because it could be withdrawn any
time once the situation is normalised. India desperately wants to withdraw
the privileged status already given to Kashmir in its
  constitution.
Pakistan is ruled by a military general
in uniform and under a de facto martial law, which was proved when Rangers
moved into Lahore and sealed the city on January 26 to foil the rally
condemning blasphemous caricatures reportedly without any formal request
by the civil administration. Besides, the Corps Commander used a
threatening tone against the opposition parties leading the mass protests
  against the west.
  President Bush has repeatedly praised
General Musharraf's role in the US-launched war against terror because he
extended unprecedented cooperation to the US army against the wishes of
the Pakistani people. Perhaps as a reward, Bush has recently stated
clearly that he likes Musharraf's model of democracy. Acknowledging the
military commander as head of state of a democratic country proved that
Bush has dual standards for Pakistani people and he is backing Musharraf's
policies that are against the interests of the Pakistani nation and
democracy, just because they serve Washington's
  interests.
The real agenda of Bush in Pakistan is
to speed up military operation in the Tribal Areas, even if innocent
civilians are killed and carry out Bajaur like attacks to pursue hunting
Islamists in the name of Al-Qaeda. Take action against religious
seminaries to root out concepts of jihad and fundamentals of Islam,
secularisation of syllabi and consolidation of the Aga Khan Education
Foundation for this purpose. To force Pakistan to roll back its nuclear
programme and hand over Dr Qadeer Khan for investigation and extracting
information from him to use as a pretext for attacking Iran. Patronisation
of Israeli and Indian nuclear programmes, force Pakistan to accept an
Indian designed solution of the Kashmir dispute and agree upon extending
an anti-Taliban like role against Iran.
Musharraf is rejoicing that Bush has no
objection to his being president in uniform. He is a true believer of the
fallacy that the combined support of GHQ and Washin

[IslamCity] Islamic Television: Al-Resalah Launched

2006-03-09 Thread ***Deep_thought***

http://islamic-world.net/read.php?ArtID=5712     Al-Resalah Launched March 07, 2006 - 21:38 Prince Alwaleed ibn Talal, CEO of Kingdom Holding Company, officially launched yesterday an Islamic satellite channel to project Islam as a religion of moderation and tolerance. Al-Resalah (The Message) Channel (http://www.alresalah.net/) had made its debut informally on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference at the headquarters of Kingdom Holding Company, Prince Alwaleed said the 24-hour channel would target the Arab audience, especially the youth, by projecting “our Arab
heritage through a modern medium.” It will be the forerunner of an English-language Islamic channel for the Western audience at a later stage. Pointing out that the channel would seek to project the true message of Islam and its teachings, the prince said it would provide a platform for a dialogue on a range of religious, social and economic issues that affect everyday life. But more important, its priority would be to counteract the misconceptions of Islam in other societies. Elaborating on Prince Alwaleed’s comments, Shoura Council member Walid Hashem told Arab News that the channel would feature cartoons and animated films with a moral content. These programs would be procured from TV companies operating in Turkey and unspecified Arab countries. Asked if the channel would provide a platform for different schools of thought, he said that the main objective was to unify the ranks of the Islamic community, counter the negative perceptions of Islam and wean the
youth away from the path of extremism. To this end, there would be an assortment of programs from prominent scholars. Tarek Alsuwaidan, the channel’s general manager, said that 40 percent of the programs would be youth oriented, 30 percent would target women and families, and 10 percent would focus on children. Noting that the channel was the brainchild of Prince Alwaleed, Alsuwaidan, who designed the contents of the program, said: “I was delighted with Prince Alwaleed’s idea to plan and launch such a unique channel. This channel represents pure and moderate Islam and our Arab heritage through a modern medium.” The press conference was attended by members of the Supreme Advisory Committee of the new channel, including Abdullah ibn Sulaiman Al-Manai, Abdullah Omar Naseef, and Hamed Al-Refaie, president of the International Islamic Forum for Dialogue.

Baghdad rocked by kidnappings and mass
killings Armed men in camouflage uniforms abducted up to
50 employees of a private security firm in eastern Baghdad yesterday, less than
24 hours after 18 blindfolded bodies were found in an abandoned lorry in a
western suburb. The slaughter was the latest in a series of killings which has
sent fear through the city. Small groups of people have been periodically
tortured and murdered in recent months, in addition to the many assassinated
individually. The victims were handcuffed giving rise to the possibility that
this brutal act was done by US-linked
militia.

Iran threatens reprisals if punished in nuclear
rowIran warned the US on Wednesday it could inflict
'harm and pain' to match whatever punishment Washington persuaded the UN
Security Council to dole out for Tehran’s refusal to give up atomic research.
"So if the United States wishes to choose that path, let the ball roll," a
senior Iranian national security official said in an interview with
Reuters.Iran, the world’s No. 4 oil provider, also said it would review its
oil export policy should the Security Council tackle its case, which EU powers
claimed was now inevitable as Tehran had flouted demands to prove it was not
secretly after atomic
bombs.

US lawmakers vote to block ports dealA
Republican-run US House of Representatives committee has voted overwhelmingly to
block a Dubai-owned company from taking control of some US port operations in an
election-year repudiation of President George Bush. The House Appropriations
Committee voted by 62-2 on Wednesday to bar DP World, run by the government of
Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, from holding leases or contracts at US ports.
The vote underscored widespread public opposition to the deal and Republican
fears of loosing its edge on the issue of national security in November's
elections. Bush has promised to veto any legislation that would block the
deal.

Pakistan-Iran rail link suspendedTrain
services linking Pakistan and Iran have been suspended after a series of
bombings and rocket attacks on the rail network in Pakistan. The service
connected Quetta, the capital of Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province,
with the Iranian border town of Zahedan. "There were five rocket attacks on the
Quetta-Zahedan track over the past 10 days," an official said. It is the only
rail link between the two countries. Pakistani authorities suspect that Baluch
tribesmen have carried out the attacks as part of a campaign to compel the
central government to increase payments the region receives for resources
extracted
there.

Cairo-Tel Aviv bus service to resume after 10

yesterday to renew the Tel Aviv-Cairo daily bus service after 10 years, it was
reported. The Zionist Tourism Minister and his Egyptian counterpart, agreed to
renew the symbolic service, which an Israeli public bus company suspended in
1996 because it was unprofitable, the report said. The two ministers met during
a conference in Berlin and agreed that their governments would soon meet to
reach a final agreement on the issue. The link was inaugurated with great
fanfare in 1981 after Egypt became the first Arab state to sign a peace treaty
with Israel two years
earlier.

Jordan jails would-be jihadisJordan’s
state security court yesterday jailed 11 men for crossing into Syria in the hope
of joining insurgents fighting US troops in Iraq, judicial sources said. Four
others among the group of Jordanians who were indicted in October were acquitted
for lack of evidence, the sources said. Five of the suspects were sentenced in
absentia to 15 years hard labour while six, under arrest since July 2005, were
given between 20 months and four years in jail, the sources said. Ten of the men
were arrested in July after they returned to Jordan from neighbouring Syria,
having failed to enter Iraq. The other five are still on the
run.

[IslamCity] FUNDAMENTAL PRINICIPLES OF SHIA RELIGION

2006-03-09 Thread Saba Khan
Fundamental Principles Of Shia Religion

Peace and blessings be to Prophet Muhammad whenever
his name is mentioned.

ACCORDING TO SHIA RELIGION THERE ARE FIVE PRINCIPLES
OF DEAN AS STATED IN THEIR FAMOUS BOOK (TOHFATUL
AWWAM) . THESE ARE "TAWHEED AD'L (JUSTICE), NUBUWAAH
(PROPHETHOOD) IMAMATE AND QIYAMAH (DOOMSDAY).

1. TAWHEED STANDS FOR THE UNITY OF GOD (ALLAH).
(HOWEVER, SHIA DOCTRINES LIKE BADA AND IMAMATE NEGATA
TAWHAAD).

2. AD'L i.e. ALLAH IS JUST (ADIL). IT WOULD HAVE BEEN
AGAINST THE JUSTICE OF GOD IF AFTER THE CESSATION OF
PROPHETHOOD BY MUHAMMAD , THE IMAMS WERE NOT APPOINTED
BY ALLAH ONE AFTER THE OTHER IN SUCH A WAY AS PREVIOUS
PROPHETS WERE GIVEN THEIR DEPUTIES.

3. NUBUWWAH i.e. MUHAMMAD , IS THE NABI (PROPHET)OF
ALLAH.

ALTHOUGH SHIAS ACKNOWLEDGE PROPHET MUHAMMAD AS THE
LAST OF PROPHETS BUT BECAUSE OF THEIR BELIEF IN
IMAMATE WHICH IS CONSIDERED HIGHER THAN PROHETHOOD AND
THAT THE IMAMS CAN ALTER THE SHARI'AH, THE CONCEPT OF
NUBUWWAH BECOMES MEANINGLESS . AS THE ISSUE OF
FINALITY OF THE PROPHETHOOD IS THE CENTERAL CORE OF
ISLAM TO WHICH SHIAS ALSO SUBSCRIBE OUTWARDLY, ANYONE
WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE IN IT OR UNDERMINES ITS
IMPORTANCE BY VARIUOS INTERPRETATION IS THROWN OUTSIDE
THE PALE OF ISLAM. THE DIVINE INSTITUTION OF NUBUWWAH
AND IMAMATE OF THE SHIAS ARE OPPOSITE ENTITIES WHICH
CANNOT BE RECONCILED.

4. IMAMATE: THERE ARE TWELVE IMAMS IN SHIA RELIGION
FROM HADHRAT ALI TO IMAM MAHDI WHO LIKE THE PROPHETS
ARE NOT ONLY MASOOM (SINLESS AND INFALLIBLE) AND
HAVING BEEN COMISSIONED BY ALLAH BUT THEY ARE EVEN
SUPERIOR TO HADHRAT IBRAHIM KHALILULLAH, HADHRAT MUSA
ROOHULLAH, HADHRAT ISSA KALIMULLAH AND REST OF ALL
OTHER PROPHETS.

THIS IS THE STATEMENT OF THE SHIITTE BUT ACCORDING TO
RESEARCH AND HISTORICAL EVIDENCE THE SO-CALLED 12
IMAMS OF THE SHIA NEVER IN THEIR LIVES CLAIMED THAT
ARE DIVINELY APPOINTED IMAMS OR LEADERS OF THE MUSLIM
COMMUNITY. THEY LIVED LIKE ORDINARY CITIZENS AND
OFFERED CONGREGATIONAL PRAYERS ALONG WITH OTHER
MUSLIMS IN THE MASJID BEHIND THE IMAM OF THE
AREA/LOCALITY. IN FACT SHIA AS A SEPERATE ORGANISED
RELIGION DID NOT EXIST FOR SOME 200 YEARS OF ISLAM.
FURTHER DETALIS ARE DISCUSSED IN CHAPTER 17 "THE BASIS
OF FIQH JAFARI'AH."

5. QIYAMAH: THE SHIAS BELIEVE IN THE LAST DAY
(QIYAMAH) BUT WITH SOME DIFFERENCE FROM WHAT HAS BEEN
STATED IN THE QUR'AN AND HADITH.

ACCORDING TO BELIEF OF AHLE-SUNNAH AS TAUGHT BY THE
HOLY QUR'AN AND RASUL-ALLAH (SAW), ALL THE HUMAN
BEINGS WHETHER MUSLIMS OR KAFIRS WILL BE BROUGHT TO
LIFE AGAIN ON THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT (QIYAMAH) AND WILL
BE PUNISHED OR REWARDED ACCORDINGLY BY ALMIGHTY ALLAH.
HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO SHIAS, THERE WILL BE A SMALLER
QIYAMAH WITH THE ADVENT OF IMAM MAHDI BEFORE THE
GREATER QIYAMAH. IN THIS SMALLER QIYAMAH,THE AUTHORITY
FOR GIVING PUNISHMENT OR REWARD WILL BE IMAM MAHDI
HIMSELF. IN THIS WAY HE WILL BE THE POSSESSER OF
DIVINE ATTRIBUTE (MIGHTY,ABLE TO REQUITE THE WRONG)

IT MAY BE NOTED HERE THAT ACCORDING TO SHIA RELIGION,
BELIEF IN IMAMATE IS A FUNDAMENTAL IN ISLAM LIKE
TAWHEED, RISALAT AND QIYAMAH (DOOMSDAY). ANYONE WHO
DOES NOT HAVE FAITH IN IT IS A KAFIR (INFIDEL) AND
DESTINED TO HELL.*

ACCORDING TO SHIA BELIEF THE NAME OF THEIR 12 IMAMS
ARE INSCRIBED ON THE THRONE . ALMIGHTY ALLAH HAS
DECLARED ABOUT THEIR LEADESHIP IN THE QUR'AN . KHOMENI
IN EXPOSITION OF VERSE 67 OF SURAH AL-MAIDAH* WRITES
THAT THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD WASAFRAID * TO DECLARE THE
IMAMATE OF ALI AS HE SENSED SERIOUS OPPOSITION FROM
HIS PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT FAVOURABLY DISPOSED TOWARDS
ALI (R.Z). IN THE LONG RUN ACCORDING TO KHOMENI THE
PROPHET DID MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT ALI'S (R.Z)
SUCCESSION ON RECEIVING DIVINE PROMISE OF PROTECTION
BUT THE MAJORITY OF SAHABAH (BELONGING TO THE
OPPOSITION PARTY* OF HADHRAT ABU BAKR (R.Z) AND
HADHRAT UMAR (R.Z) WHO WERE AGAINST ALI (R.Z) DEFIED
THIS PROCLAIMATION AND INSTEAD OF ALI (R.Z) BECAME
THEMSELVES THE CALIPHS BY COERCION.

THIS IS A GREAT TRAVESTY OF TRUTH HADHRAT ALI HAD THE
UTMOST LOVE AND REGARD FOR HADHRAT ABU BAKR (R.Z)
HADHRAT UMAR (R.Z) AND OTHER SAHABAH OF RASUL-ALLAH .
HE CONSIDERED HADHRAT ABU BAKR (R.Z) MOST SUITED AND
DESERVING FOR THE OFFICE OF CALIPHATE AFTER THE DEMISE
OF RASUL-ALLAH .* IF HOWEVER , FOR A MOMENT FOR THE
SAKE OF ARGUMENT WE ADMIT THAT KHOMENI IS CORRECT IN
WHAT HE HAS SAID ABOVE WHICH IS THE BASIS OF SHIA
RELIGION THAT RASUL-ALLAH . NOMINATED HADHRAT ALI
(R.Z) FOR THE OFFICE OF CALIPHATE AND IMAMATE AND MADE
A DECLARATION TO THIS EFFECT AT GHADIR-KHUM, THEN IT
WILL HAVE TO BE ADMITTED AS ITS LOGICAL OUT COME THAT
RASUL-ALLAH MISERABLY FAILED IN THE TRAINING AND
CHARACTER BUILDING OF HIS UMMAH TO THE EXTENT THAT NO
PREVIOUS PROPHET OR REFORMER HAD FAILED SO CONSPIOUSLY
RASUL-ALLAH SINCE THE DAWN OF PROPHET HOOD UNTIL HIS
DEMISE REFORMED AND REFINED THOSE PEOPLE WITH HIS
TEACHINGS, PREACHINGS AND EXAMPLE WITH WHOM HE LIVED,
TRAVELLED AND WHO WERE TAUGHT IN HIS COMPANY BUT THOSE
VERY PEOPLE AS SOON AS HE DIED COMMITTED SUCH A
TREACHERY THAT IN PURSUIT OF WORLDLY GAIN AND POWER,

[IslamCity] Saudis Rebuff Custodian of Israel's Demand to Stop Aid to Palestinians

2006-03-09 Thread Alan Border

“Cluster Bombs & Cruise Missiles May Only Kill Thousands But it is the Anti-Zionist Words that will Land You in Trouble in the Land of ‘FREE’ Speech!” Saudis Will Keep Up Aid Flow to Palestinians Kingdom's Policy Rebuffs Rice's Push To Isolate Hamas By Glenn Kessler Washington Post Staff
WriterThursday, February 23, 2006; Page A10 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/22/AR2006022201496.html     RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Feb. 22 -- Saudi Arabia, the biggest Arab donor to the Palestinians, said Wednesday it would continue that aid despite the prospect of a Hamas-led cabinet,
though it also expressed support for peace initiatives rejected by Hamas that allow for the eventual recognition of Israel. "We wish not to link the international aid to the Palestinian people to considerations other than their dire humanitarian needs," the Saudi foreign minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal, said after Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met one-on-one for nearly 2 1/2 hours with King Abdullah.     Saud's statement put the kingdom at odds with the U.S. push to isolate the Palestinians, except for the provision of humanitarian
aid. It came one day after Egyptian officials also told Rice that Islamic groups needed to be given time to evolve and accept Israel.     On a day of delicate diplomacy that also included a lengthy one-on-one meeting with the Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak, Rice confronted the contradictions of the administration's Middle East policy. On trips to the region in the past year, she repeatedly pushed Arab governments to step up monetary support for the Palestinians while
arguing that they must open up their political systems. This week, in her first trip since Hamas's unexpected victory Jan. 25, she has urged caution in supporting a Palestinian legislature that came to power in a democratic election.     Rice said she was not muting her push for democratic reforms. In Egypt, she met for more than an hour Wednesday with a small group of dissidents and democracy activists, who complained bitterly about Mubarak's efforts to limit political freedom. But on Tuesday she also spent nearly two hours discussing the Palestinian situation with the Egyptian
intelligence chief, who handles contacts with Hamas -- and keeps tabs on dissidents.     Saudi Arabia, as an Islamic kingdom, is wary of being perceived as punishing Palestinians who elected a parliament dedicated to Islamic rule. "It would be the ultimate of irony that, at the time when we need to take care of these people who are seeking peace, we shall fall short of doing so," Saud said. "How do we distinguish between humanitarian and non-humanitarian aid? Infrastructure projects or humanitarian aid projects? They need both, infrastructure and humanitarian aid."     Hamas, formally known as the Islamic Resistance Movement, receives substantial funding from individuals and groups in Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations, as well as Iran, partly because of its charitable work building schools and hospitals. According to the Web site GlobalSecurity.org, Hamas receives about $12 million a year from various Saudi sources.
Despite the differences over aid, which could lessen the pressure on Hamas, U.S. officials have taken comfort in the statements by Arab officials calling on Hamas to work for a negotiated settlement with Israel. "Different countries will have different modalities on how to deal with this," Rice said at a news conference with Saud. "For the
United States, Hamas is a terrorist organization. We cannot give funding to a terrorist organization. It's really that simple."     U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that in private meetings Saudi officials expressed discomfort with Hamas's victory and reserved judgment on how aid might be affected. Saudi
Arabia currently provides about $15 million in monthly aid through the Arab League for the Palestinian Authority budget, and U.S. officials said Saudi officials made it clear that aid would continue for now. But the Saudis also suggested that money eventually might be redirected away from the government to other Palestinian entities, the U.S. officials said.     A
Saudi official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said months might pass before Saudi Arabia believes Hamas has failed to prove itself. He noted that the ailing Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon, was considered an extremist when he was elected, and now he is hailed as a peacemaker.     Rice's aides provided only general details of the secretary's discussions with Mubarak and Abdullah, which also dealt with Iran's nuclear program. Suleiman Awad, a spokesman for Mubarak, said the president emphasized the need to maintain support for the Palestinian leader, Mahmoud Abbas, a member of the Fatah party, which lost control of the legislature to Hamas in the elections.     Rice, who will address foreign ministers from the Persian Gulf states in a meeting Thursday in the United Arab Emirates,
