Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Houston Muslim Basketball Tournament Playoffs

2006-08-02 Thread Curtis Sharif

Bismillah, FYI Brother Jamalluddin, along with many Ansaris, are doing a terrific job producing and promoting Muslim youth basketball leagues in Houston, and they play at a high profiecy level, with very competetive and entertaining games.  I encourage you to attend this tournament with your family and friends.  Inshallah, you will be well entertained and provide a financial boost for this noble effort at the same time.     Peace, Curtis Sharif Houston, Texas"Jamaaluddin \"Coach J\" al-Haidar" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:Bismillaah, wal Hamdulillaah, was Salaatus Salaam ala Rasulillaah, wa ba'dAs-Salaamualaikum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu    The Hoopfest II camp report has been uploaded to the site. The young brothers have been working hard all summer in day camp
improving their game on the court, developing leadership skills, as well as discovering how to inspire, motivate and support each other as athletes and Muslim brothers. Although we only had about half the number of campers as we did last year for Hoopfest I, the camp has turned out to be a success thus far in light of the financial difficulties incurred. The plan is to play seven games on "Championship Sunday", August 13th at a hardwood court facility. On that day we want to conduct the Final Four for the MYBA Seniors Summer League as well as determine the Hoopfest II champions in the traditional best 2 of 3 championship series. The schedule on that day should look like the following: 11:00am Hoopfest II game 112:00noon MYBA Seniors East Semi-Final1:00pm Hoopfest II game 22:15pm MYBA Seniors West Semi-Final3:15pm Hoopfest II game 3 (if necessary) If not, the last two remaining games will be moved up an hour to fill the time slot4:15pm MYBA Seniors Consolation Game5:15pm MYBA Seniors Final     What this means is that either we will play the four opening round games of the tournament on Saturday, August 12th at North Zone, or play them in the evening during the week of August 7th-11th. We could play two games one evening or scatter them throughout the week playing only one game per evening. I'd rather do this than play them on Sunday,, August the 13th and have to move the Championship Sunday to August
20th. We're flexible but I need to hear from team reps ASAP on this one. The sooner we can come to a hard decision on how we can work everyone's schedule around the August 13 or August 20th date the better because we want to call a press conference with the local Muslim and Indo-Pakistanian media.      The format for the playoffs are as follows:      Fi-Aman'Allah, Br. Jamaaluddin al-Haidar MYBA Commish* to the deen and the game. . . stay true.MYBA-Muslim Youth Basketball Association www.mybausa.org

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] War On Palestinians - Massacre Continues As World Attention is Focused On Lebanon

2006-08-02 Thread Alan Border

“Never will the Jews or the Christians be satisfied with thee unless thou follow their form of religion. Say: "The Guidance of Allah,-that is the (only) Guidance." Wert thou to follow their desires after the knowledge which hath reached thee, then wouldst thou find neither Protector nor helper against Allah.” (Al-Qur'an, 2:120 Al-Baqara [The
Cow]) Violence in Gaza, West Bank Leaves 9 dead     By IBRAHIM BARZAK, Associated Press Writer Wed Jul 19, 3:53 AM ET
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060719/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_palestinians;_ylt=AmWRSx8RDk1jpyI..kj3i1IUewgF;_ylu=X3oDMTA3b3JuZGZhBHNlYwM3MjE-   GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Six Palestinians were killed after Israeli tanks moved into the Mughazi refugee camp in central Gaza early Wednesday under cover of machine gun fire, the latest incursion in
Israel's three-week military push in the seaside territory. In a separate army operation in the    West Bank city of Nablus, at least three Palestinians were killed when the army surrounded a Palestinian prison where wanted militants were apparently hiding, Palestinian officials said.     In
Mughazi, residents said 30 Israeli armored vehicles were in the camp by sunrise. Soldiers took over several rooftops as bulldozers leveled farmland. The Israeli military confirmed that an operation was in progress. Palestinians said five militants were killed and five wounded in clashes. In two Israeli airstrikes after sunrise, one militant was killed and at least 13 more Palestinians were wounded, two critically, hospital officials said. Five Israeli soldiers were injured, two seriously, the military said.   Also, 14 people,
including children, were wounded when tank shells hit two houses in the camp, hospital officials said. The Israeli army spokesman denied that any tank shells were fired in the area. A total of 52 people were wounded in the incursion, the hospital officials said.     The camp, with 22,000 residents, is near the Gaza-Israel fence and across from the Palestinian town of Deir al-Balah. Israeli forces operated in the region late last week before withdrawing. Israeli troops have also swept through southern
Gaza and carried out two invasions of northern Gaza, trying to stop militants from firing rockets at Israel.     In Nablus, three Palestinians were killed when Israeli troops surrounded Palestinian security headquarters, including a prison, where wanted militants were apparently hiding, said the office of governor Said
Abu Ali. The forces raided Nablus before dawn, surrounding the compound and demanding that those inside surrender, witnesses said.      At least 107 Palestinian policemen were detained in the operation, Abu Ali's office said. The army confirmed it was operating in Nablus and said that troops had exchanged fire with gunmen and saw that they had hit some of
the Palestinians. It was not clear how many were killed, the army said.     Israel began a large-scale operation in Gaza on June 28, three days after Hamas-linked militants tunneled under the border and attacked an Israeli army base at a Gaza crossing, killing two soldiers and capturing a third.     On Tuesday, a team of United Nations envoys met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Gaza City about the Israeli offensive in the territory. "We hope the present crisis engulfing Gaza is to be overcome and we can come back to the situation where it is possible to pursue the objective of peace," U.N. envoy Alvaro De Soto said after the meeting.     Palestinian officials said the U.N. team brought no offers of a deal to end the fighting to Abbas, who called for an immediate cease-fire. "The only issue that President Abbas focused on was to find a way to stop this Israeli
escalation on the ground," Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdeneh said. "This is the main topic, this is what we are looking for, apart from the humanitarian crisis which we suffer from."     In a statement early Wednesday, the military said it opened two crossings into Gaza Tuesday to allow shipments of food and fuel. The statement said 145 food trucks entered Gaza through the Karni crossing, while almost 600,000 liters fuel and 175 tons of cooking gas were sent through the Nahal Oz crossing.     At the Rafah terminal, which connects Gaza to Egypt, European monitors said an estimated 3,000 people were expected to pass through its gates when it opens Wednesday. Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Turkish anti-West mood 'rising' bbc news--interview with financial times

2006-08-02 Thread S A Hannan

 Printable version

  Turkish anti-West mood 'rising'

Mr Gul warned of an anti-US backlash in
TurkeyTurkish
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul has warned that moderate Turks are becoming
  anti-American and anti-EU.
Mr Gul said many Turks were embittered by the US' support for Israel's
actions in Lebanon and by Turkey's problems in joining the EU.
He also said Ankara could be forced to act to stop cross-border raids
by Kurdish rebels operating from Iraq.
Mr Gul's comments came in a wide-ranging interview with the UK's
  Financial Times newspaper.
"Moderate liberal people [in Turkey] are becoming anti-American and
  anti-EU," he said.

Some EU leaders are lukewarm about Turkey's
bid
"If our young, educated, dynamic and economically active people become
bitter, if their attitudes and feelings are changed, it is not good.
"Their feeling has changed towards these global policies and strategic
  issues. This is dangerous."
On the EU accession talks, Mr Gul said failure to resolve the dispute
with Cyprus was "poisoning" the process that was formally launched in
  June.
Cyprus has threatened to veto the Turkish bid unless Ankara officially
recognises it and opens its ports and airports to Greek Cypriot ships and
  planes.
But Mr Gul said Turkish lawmakers would reject such proposals unless
the Cypriots also lifted their veto on any direct trade with the Turkish
Cypriot government in northern Cyprus, which is not internationally
  recognised.
He also suggested that some EU states seemed to be hiding behind the
Cyprus issues to delay Turkey's accession talks.
  Kurdish issue
On the Middle East issue, Mr Gul said US policies were causing a
backlash in Turkey and the region.
Washington's support for Israel did not help solve the problem, he
  said.
And he again warned that Turkey would have to act if the US and Iraq
failed to stop by the Turkish Kurdish rebel group, the PKK, which is
  operating from Iraq.
Washington - a long-term ally of Ankara - has warned Turkey against
taking unilateral military action against PKK bases in northern Iraq.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] I am Israel

2006-08-02 Thread Showkat Ali

I am Israel By Hashem Said The Daily - Washington State University, Feb. 25, 2002 I am Israel - I came to a land without a people for a people without a land. Those people who happened to be here, had no right to be here, and my people showed them they had to leave or die, razing 480 Palestinian villages to the ground, erasing their history. I am Israel - some of my people committed massacres and later became Prime Ministers to represent me. In 1948, Menachem Begin was in charge of the unit that slaughtered the inhabitants of Deir Yassin, including 100 men, women, and children. In 1953, Ariel Sharon led the slaughter of the inhabitants of Qibya, and in 1982 arranged for our allies to butcher around 2,000 in the refugee camps of Sabra and Shatilla. I am Israel - carved in 1948 out of 78% of the land of Palestine, dispossessing its inhabitants and replacing them with Jews from Europe and other parts of the world. While
the natives whose families lived on this land for thousands of years are not allowed to return, Jews from all over the world are welcome to instant citizenship. I am Israel - in 1967, I swallowed the remaining lands of Palestine - the West Bank and Gaza - and placed their inhabitants under an oppressive military rule, controlling and humiliating every aspect of their daily lives. Eventually, they should get the message that they are not welcome to stay, and join the millions of Palestinian refugees in the shanty camps of Lebanon and Jordan. I am Israel - I have the power to control American policy. My American Israel Public Affairs Committee can make or break any politician of its choosing, and as you see, they all compete to please me. All the forces of the world are powerless against me, including the UN as I have the American veto to block any condemnation of my war crimes. As Sharon so eloquently phrased it, "We control America".
I am Israel - I influence American mainstream media too, and you will always find the news tailored to my favor. I have invested millions of dollars into PR representation, and CNN, New York Times, and others have been doing an excellent job of promoting my propaganda. Look at other international news sources and you will see the difference. I am Israel - and you Palestinians want to negotiate "peace!?" But you are not as smart as me; I will negotiate, but will only let you have your municipalities while I control your borders, your water, your airspace, and anything else of importance. While we "negotiate," I will swallow your hilltops and fill them with settlements, populated by the most extremist of my extremists, armed to the teeth. These settlements will be connected with roads you cannot use, and you will be imprisoned in your little Bantustans between them, surrounded by checkpoints in every direction. I am Israel - with the
fourth strongest army in the world, possessing nuclear weapons. How dare your children confront my oppression with stones, don't you know my soldiers won't hesitate to blow their heads off? In 17 months, I have killed 900 of you and injured 17,000, mostly civilians, and have the mandate to continue since the international community remains silent. Ignore, as I do, the hundreds of Israeli soldiers who are now refusing to carry out my control over your lands and people; their voices of conscience will not protect you. I am Israel - and you want freedom? I have bullets, tanks, missiles, Apaches, and F-16's, to obliterate you. I have placed your towns under siege, confiscated your lands, uprooted your trees, demolished your homes, and you still demand freedom? Don't you get the message? You will never have peace or freedom, because I am Israel.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] History Lesson for Mr Bush and Mr Blair

Comment

We Europeans must never
forget that we created the Middle East
conflict

Justified criticism of Israeli policy
needs to be informed by a sense of our own historical responsibility

Timothy
Garton Ash
Thursday July 27, 2006
The Guardian

When and where
did this war begin? Shortly after 9am local time on Wednesday July 12, when
Hizbullah militants seized Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev - Israeli reservists
on the last day of their tour of duty - in a cross-border raid into northern
Israel? Friday June 9, when Israeli shells killed at least seven Palestinian
civilians on a beach in the Gaza
strip? January this year, when Hamas won the Palestinian legislative elections,
in a backhanded triumph for an American policy of supporting democratisation?
1982, when Israel invaded Lebanon? 1979,
with the Islamic revolution in Iran?
1948, with the creation of the state of Israel? Or how about Russia in the
spring of 1881?

Simple questions
require such complicated answers. Even if the basic facts are agreed, every
term is disputed: militants, soldiers or terrorists? Seized, captured or
kidnapped? Every selection of facts implies an interpretation. And in tortured
histories like this, every horror will be explained or justified by reference
back to some antecedent horror:

From tyranny to tyranny to war

From dynasty to dynasty to hate

From villainy to villainy to death

From policy to policy to grave...

"The song is yours. Arrange it as you will,"
writes the poet James Fenton, in his Ballad of the Imam and the Shah.

Yet observing European responses to the current conflict, I
want to insist on Europe's own strong claim to
be among the earliest causes. The Russian pogroms of 1881; the French mob
chanting "à bas les juifs" as Captain Dreyfus was stripped of his
epaulettes at the École Militaire; the festering anti-semitism of Austria
around 1900, shaping the young Adolf Hitler; all the way to the Holocaust of
European Jewry and the waves of anti-semitism that convulsed parts of Europe in
its immediate aftermath. It was that history of increasingly radical European
rejection, from the 1880s to the 1940s, that produced the driving force for
political Zionism, Jewish emigration to Palestine
and eventually the creation of the state of Israel.

"What made me a Zionist was the Dreyfus trial,"
said Theodor Herzl, the father of modern Zionism. If Europe
decided that each nation should have its own state, would not accept even
emancipated Jews as fully members of the French or German nation, and
eventually became the scene of the attempted extermination of all Jewry, then
the Jews must have their own national home somewhere else. Home - in a
definition beloved of Isaiah Berlin
- is the place where, if you have to go there, they have to take you in. And
never again would Jews go as lambs to the slaughter. As Israelis, they would
fight for the life of every single fellow Jew. The 19th-century stereotypes of
German Helden and Jewish Händler have been reversed. The Germans, and with them
most of today's bourgeois Europeans, have become the eternal traders; the Jews,
in Israel,
the eternal warriors.

Of course, this is only one thread in perhaps the world's
most complicated political tapestry; but it's a very important one. I don't
think any European should speak or write about today's conflict in the Middle East without displaying some consciousness of our
own historical responsibility. I'm afraid that some Europeans today do so speak
and write; and I don't just mean the German rightwing extremists who marched
through the town of Verden in Lower Saxony last
Saturday, waving Iranian flags and chanting "Israel - international genocide
centre". I also mean thinking people on the left, contributors to
discussion threads on Guardian blogs and the like. Even as we criticise the way
the Israeli military are killing Lebanese civilians and UN monitors in the name
of recovering Ehud Goldwasser (and destroying the military infrastructure of
Hizbullah), we must remember that all of this would almost certainly not be
happening if some Europeans had not attempted, a few decades back, to remove
everyone called Goldwasser from the face of Europe - if not the earth.

Let me be very clear what I mean. It does not follow from
this terrible European history that Europeans must display uncritical solidarity
with whatever the current government of Israel chooses to do, however violent
or ill-advised. On the contrary, the true friend is the one who speaks up when
you're making a mistake. It does not follow that we should sign up to the
latest dangerous simplifications about a "third world war" against
"an Iran-Syrian-Hizbullah-Hamas terrorist alliance" (according to the
US Republican Newt Gingrich) or a "seamless totalitarian movement" of
political Islamism (according to the Conservative MP and journalist Michael
Gove).

It does not follow that ever

Arab governments, starting with Saudi Arabia, slammed Hezbollah for recklessly provoking a war, providing what the United States and Israel took as a wink and a nod to continue the fight. The Saudi royal family and King Abdullah II of Jordan, who
were initially more worried about the rising power of Shiite Iran, Hezbollah’s main sponsor, are scrambling to distance themselves from Washington. An outpouring of newspaper columns, cartoons, blogs and public poetry readings have showered praise on Hezbollah while attacking the United States and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for trumpeting American plans for a “new Middle East” that they say has led only to violence and repression. Even Al Qaeda, run by violent Sunni Muslim extremists normally hostile to all Shiites, has gotten into the act, with its deputy leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, releasing a taped message saying that
through its fighting in Iraq, his organization was also trying to liberate Palestine. Mouin Rabbani, a senior Middle East analyst in Amman, Jordan, with the International Crisis Group, said, “The Arab-Israeli conflict remains the most potent issue in this part of the world.” Distinctive changes in tone are audible throughout the Sunni world. This week, President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt emphasized his attempts to arrange a cease-fire to protect all sects in Lebanon, while the Jordanian king announced that his country was dispatching medical teams “for the victims of Israeli aggression.” Both countries have peace treaties
with Israel. The Saudi royal court has issued a dire warning that its 2002 peace plan — offering Israel full recognition by all Arab states in exchange for returning to the borders that predated the 1967 Arab-Israeli war — could well perish. “If the peace option is rejected due to the Israeli arrogance,” it said, “then only the war option remains, and no one knows the repercussions befalling the region, including wars and conflict that will spare no one, including those whose military power is now tempting them to play with fire.” The Saudis were putting the West on notice that they would not exert pressure on anyone in the Arab world until Washington did something to halt the destruction of Lebanon, Saudi commentators said. American officials say that while the Arab leaders need to take a harder line publicly for domestic political reasons, what matters more is what they tell the United States in private, which the
Americans still see as a wink and a nod. There are evident concerns among Arab governments that a victory for Hezbollah — and it has already achieved something of a victory by holding out this long — would further nourish the Islamist tide engulfing the region and challenge their authority. Hence their first priority is to cool simmering public opinion. But perhaps not since President Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt made his emotional outpourings about Arab unity in the 1960’s, before the Arab defeat in the 1967 war, has the public been so electrified by a confrontation with Israel, played out repeatedly on satellite television stations with horrific images from Lebanon of wounded children and distraught women fleeing their homes. Egypt’s opposition press has had a field day comparing Sheik Nasrallah to Nasser, while demonstrators waved pictures of both. An editorial in the weekly Al Dustur by Ibrahim Issa, who faces a
lengthy jail sentence for his previous criticism of President Mubarak, compared current Arab leaders to the medieval princes who let the Crusaders chip away at Muslim lands until they controlled them all. After attending an intellectual ral

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Open letter to Jamiatul Ulema

2006-08-02 Thread aasiyah mohd

Assalaamualikum,     Open letter to Jamiatul Ulema At the beginning, I want to aplologise if this letter is not written in the flowery language that "ulema" expect, but do understand that we are in a crisis, not only ranging from military onslaught, but extending also to the kaafirs sowing sectarian discord between the Muslims. As an ulema council or body of theologians, at the start, we would like to welcome this gesture of participating in a protest. After many years, Alhamdulillah, Allahs guidance has penetrated. We remember the days when you used to exaggerate and generalise how Un-Islamic protest marchers etc. are, because these kaafirs will not listen, and we used to remind you of how, in Makkah, even though the Muslims were powerless, the Prophet (saw) even though unable to do anything, he would stand nearby Ammaar ibn Yasser (r.a) and his family, just to show solidarity. Then
you used to bring in your fiqhi disputes and generalise that men and women intermingle there, nevertheless, this call to protest is a positive development and we hope the opposition will grow to more active opposition. On the other hand, those who cause mischief with un-islamic behaviour should be rectified, but this should not be future justification for future abstentions.     Now, to come to the main meal of this letter. We cannot wait for another generation before you wake up and tell the Muslims, that now is the time to unite. We are all brothers, even though we may be sunni or shi'i, as long as the Usul Ad-Din are not compromised, we must unite. Please consider this in light of the Qur'an and the Prophets sunnah as well as the growing conscientiousness of Ulema across the world who have realised, that this sectarian divide was used by all and sundry, kaafirs and Muslim Kings and despots to dominate over the
Muslims through divide and rule.     Wa Salaam Abdul Wahid Osman Belal <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: - Original Message - From: Jamiatul Ulama

Everything else was just a pretext and a pretense. The view has been suggested and offered, with proof, by commentators from different backgrounds, ideologies and groupings whether political or religious. In the meantime, while Rice is out play-acting, the US blames Syria and Iran for supporting Hizbullah with arms and ammo. At the same time, US law-makers steamroll resolutions to support Israel and more bombs are shipped to Israel, openly, with the US delivering at least 100 GBU 28 bunker busters bombs containing depleted uranium warheads to Israel for use against targets in LebanonAs the fighting rages on, Rice offers
sympathy for the Israeli people and continues to lambaste Hizbullah for their actions. Israeli deaths number under 50, whereas almost 400 Lebanese have been killed. In Israel many homes in Haifa have been damaged and some other buildings also shelled. In Lebanon homes, apartment buildings, shopping centres, dams, power stations, airports, roads, hospitals, communication satellites and other structures which help provide the basic human needs and rights have been blown up and destroyed beyond any possible use. Rice argues that UN resolution 1559 and the Taif Agreement, which ended the Lebanese Civil War in 1990 and call for the Lebanese government to exercise full control over its territory and the disarmament of militias -including Hezbollah, need to be enforced. She doesn’t even mention the numerous UN resolutions (e.g. 194, 242, 338 - 242 and 338 unanimously approved by the Security Council, are fully binding and can be enforced by sanctions or military action)
openly flouted by Israel. Sorry, but the honest, objective and fair-minded person just cannot accept the US word as it stands. Ask Yourself…???Countries in the Middle East are constantly derided and condemned for their lack of democracy. Democracy is slated as the cure to the problems of the Middle East, and the world. What then, with regard to Algeria, Lebanon, Iraq and Palestine, to mention but a few? Is it possible that the ‘democracies’ that would prove ‘beneficial’ are those chosen by other than the people of the land? Why is Israel ‘dropping its objection’ to an independent NATO force in the area? Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Hard Facts About Television

2006-08-02 Thread l ... SuzanNa_K ... l

Hard Facts About Television     The Council of Islamic Scholars (Majlisul Ulama) of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, have published a booklet on Islam and television in which they list the factors present in television that are unlawful or offensive, the existence of any one of which is sufficient to make watching it a violation of Sacred Law, including: 1) pictures of animate objects and picture making; 2) music; 3) immorality, nudity, illicit sex, pornography, etc; 4) obscene language; 5) incitement to fornication;6) negation of haya (modesty); 7) scenes of violence, sadism, and crime in general portrayed; 8) the addictive influence exercised by TV; 9) it encourages the acceptance of aggression as a mode of behavior; 10) it
encourages imitation of the crimes portrayed; 11) the brainwashing action of TV, especially on the young; 12) it stunts intellectual growth; 13) it wastes time; 14) it interferes with one's religious duties and one's necessary and important worldly duties; 15) it diverts one's attention from the remembrance of Allah; 16) and it falls under the category described by Islam as lahw (pointless amusement). (Majlisul Ulama) In the face of this formidable array of evil factors and harmful effects no one can have any doubt of the illegality of television in Islam. Television, as has been seen, is an embodiment of sin and immorality. Islam can never condone or permit an institution that plays havoc with the spiritual, mental, and moral development of mankind. Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Sujud al-sahw

2006-08-02 Thread l ... SuzanNa_K ... l

SUJUD AS-AHW (PROSTRATIONS TO MAKE UP FOR FORGETFULNESS) It has been authentically proven that the Prophet (pbuh) used to occasionally forget while he was in prayer. He said, instructing his followers: “I am only a human being, I forget like you forget, so if one of you forgets (in his prayer) he should prostrate twice (extra) in his (final) sitting.” (Ahmad) How to Perform Two prostrations (sajdah) for Forgetfulness Prostrate twice either before the taslim (peace greeting) or after it. Both are authentically reported from the Prophet (pbuh.) He said: “When one of you becomes uncertain in his prayer and doesn’t know how many units (raka’at) he prayed, three or four, he should cast away his uncertainty and build on what he is sure about (i.e. the lesser number), then prostrate twice before the taslim.” (Bukhari) In the incident related to Dhul-Yadain (where the Prophet (pbuh) prayed two units instead of four, then completed the remaining unit after his attention was called to the lapse), he performed sujud As-sahw after the taslim. (Agreed upon.) It is preferable to try to follow the sunna as closely as possible, performing sujud before the taslim or performing sujud after the taslim in different situations as mentioned in the hadith. In all other situations he has the choice. The Prophet (pbuh) said: “If a person added to his prayer or detracted
from it, he should perform two sajdah.” (Muslim) The Situations Which Call for sajdah As-sahwIf one makes taslim before the completion of the prayer, he should stand, complete the remainder and then perform two sajdah at the end of the prayer. If one adds something to the prayer. The proof follows: The Prophet (pbuh) once prayed five raka’at. He was asked, “Has an addition been made to the prayer?” He said, “Why do you so ask?” They said, “You prayed five raka’at.” Then he prostrated twice after the taslim. (Agreed upon). If one forgets the first tashahud. The proof follows: ”The Prophet (pbuh) led them in Dhuhr one day and in the second raka’at he stood up after
the second prostration (sajdah) without sitting. The people stood up with him. When the prayer was (almost) over and the people were awaiting the taslim, he said takbir (i.e., Allahu Akbar) while sitting, performed two prostrations before the taslim, and then made the taslim. ” (Bukhari) Also mentioned in hadith is one who forgot to sit for the tashahud, then remembered before he stood all the way up. He should return to the sitting posture. However, if he is fully standing before he remembered, he should not sit back down, but at the end of the prayer, he should perform the sujud as-sahw. If one is unsure how many raka’at he prayed. The Prophet (pbuh) said: ”If one of you becomes uncertain in his prayer, so that he does not know how many (units) he prayed – three raka’at or four, he should cast off what he is uncertain
about, and build on what he is sure of, then perform two sajdah before making the taslim. So if he ends up praying five rak’aat, his prayer will be taken as complete and if he prayed correctly it is like rubbing Satan’s nose in the dust. ” (Muslim). If one is unsure about how many raka’at he prayed, he should go with the lower number. The Prophet (pbuh) said: ”If one of you is not sure between two and one, he should treat it as one (raka’at); and if he is not sure between two and three, he should treat it as two; and if he not sure between three and four, he should treat it as three. Because the uncertainty is in the extra raka’at. Then he should complete what is left of his salat and perform two sajdah while sitting before he makes taslim.” (Ahmed and others.)

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] war for a "New Middle East" riding on the back of Israeli military might will only stiffen resistance, from http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2006/805/fr1.htm

2006-08-02 Thread S A Hannan

A vision stillborn
In Rome yesterday, the US obstructed peace efforts, trading
an immediate end to the war for a "New Middle East" riding on the back
of Israeli military might. This will only stiffen resistance, writes
Omayma
Abdel-Latif

  caption

Demonstrations in support of Lebanon, Hizbullah
and its leader have taken place in many parts of the Arab world.
Yesterday hundreds of Egyptians rallied in Tahrir Square to show
solidarity with the plight of the Lebanese and mark the 50th
anniversary of the nationalisation of the Suez Canal

As Israel's assault against Lebanon enters its third week there is no
sign of a ceasefire. The Rome meeting ended on a sour note exposing the
divisions among world powers over the means to end Lebanon's
humanitarian catastrophe which has so far claimed some 420 lives and
injured approximately 2,000 others -- mostly civilians.
It was primarily thanks to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's
insistence that "there will be no going back to the status quo ante,"
that Israel's massacres in Lebanon will continue unabated -- for a few
more days at least. Rather than press for an immediate cessation of
attacks, Rice has instead suggested, cold-bloodedly, that the crimes
against humanity committed by Israel are but the "birth pangs" of a new
Middle East.
Asked what he understood by the New Middle East, the supreme guide of
the Muslim Brotherhood, the largest opposition movement in Egypt, did
not take long to answer. "It is an old ploy made new. It is not about
new alliances being struck but about the same old alliances, between
corrupt and autocratic regimes and the US and Israel, seeking to
terminate all forms of resistance, political or otherwise, to the US's
grand designs in the region," Mohamed Mahdi Akef told Al-Ahram
Weekly.
Hassan Nasrallah, Hizbullah's secretary-general, underlined his
reading of what Rice's new Middle East actually meant in a televised
speech aired yesterday. "It is," said Nasrallah, "a region where the US
wants to be exclusively in control. It is a Middle East that has no
place for resistance movements, in Palestine or Lebanon, because they
are the main obstacle standing in the way of the historic American
project."
This new Middle East promised by Rice, argued several Arab
commentators, currently being mid-wifed by Israel's ruthless war
machine, aims to neutralise any resistance.
"So it takes the destruction of three Arab countries -- Lebanon,
Palestine and Iraq -- for Rice's new Middle East to be born," wrote
Talal Salman, publisher and editor of the Lebanese daily
As-Safir, on Monday. "This is no more than another attempt by the
US to buy more time for Israel to continue its wanton destruction of
Lebanon and its people."
Rice appears to be spearheading Washington's latest repackage of its
schemes for the region. "It is déjà vu," says Munir Shafik, a
Palestinian commentator. "We have heard this rhetoric before, when they
attacked Afghanistan and then invaded Iraq, and then when they crushed a
democratically elected government in Palestine."
Some analysts suggest that not returning to the status quo ante
implies, among other things, a redrawing of political alliances in the
region as an axis emerges led by what the American administration dubs
"moderate regimes" in the region, a euphemism for Saudi Arabia, Egypt
and Jordan, all of which condemned Hizbullah after its capture of two
Israeli soldiers. This will be accompanied by attempts to redraw
Lebanon's domestic political map, leaving Hizbullah weakened and giving
greater influence to pro-American forces in Lebanon -- mainly the 14th
March camp. Regionally, the alliance aims at further isolating Syria and
Iran, regimes deemed by the Bush administration to be undermining US
interests.
"There is a clear American interest in capitalising on Israel's
