Boycott Israel [IslamCity] The Veil - A Mark Of Separation Or Statement Of Identity? Talk in QMW university London

The Veil - A Mark Of Separation Or Statement Of Identity?

Jack Straw's comments on the veil opened a debate that many thought was
overdue. The Muslim woman's dress, most noticeably the face veil is seen by
many as a symbol of oppression and separateness. Yet those Muslim women who
have spoken supporting the hijab (headscarf), niqab (face veil) and jilbab
(outer garment) talk about their dress variously as liberating, symbolic of
their distinctive identity, and a deeply important part of their religious
practice to them.
Does this gap in opinion just go to prove how different are the world views
between practicing Muslims and others? Or are their parallels in clothing
fashions representing other statements of identity? Is it really the business
of others like Jack Straw to comment on the clothing of any woman - be she
wearing a veil or a miniskirt?

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Devoted Companions (May Allah be pleased with Him) Great Stories of Torchbearers of Islam

2006-11-29 Thread Asifa AM
The Holy Companions (May Allah be pleased with Him), that is, the followers of
the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) are those great personalities of
the world, who are superior to and greater than anyone except the Prophets and
Messengers of Allah (peace be upon him). By their achievements they earned the
pleasure of Allah and His Holy Prophet (peace be upon him).
When we read the life histories of the Holy Companions, we feel a longing to
follow their example. We feel an urge to be from in our beliefs and to
establish the faith of Islam. We believe that had not Allah created those
wonderful people; our religion would not have come to us in its pristine from.
Allah had caused those noble Companions of our Holy Prophet (peace be upon him)
to safeguard our religion. Next to the lives of the Apostles of Allah (peace be
upon him). It is the lives of these sages, which serve as the best models for
us.
The manner in which the Holy Companions went forward with the Islamic
movement, the scarifies which they made in support of the Holy Prophet (peace
be upon him), and the zeal and enthusiasm with which they worked for spreading
the message of Islam, carry a good lesson for all human beings of the world,
specially the Muslims.
For a long time now there has been a feeling that the life-stories of those
torchbearers of Islam should be presented to our children and young persons,
boys and girls, for correcting the ills of our present society.
This book is intended to fulfill this need and it is hoped that it will be of
benefit to our young generation and shall impart especially to them desirable

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] the Mayor of Colombo, 23 years old, a Muslim , a former rickshaw driver. ---http://jamaat.org/digest/colombo.html

2006-11-29 Thread S A Hannan
Dear members,

Assalamu Alaikum. Please read this extra-ordinary story of the Mayor of
Colombo, 23 years old, a Muslim , a former rickshaw driver.

Shah Abdul Hannan

Mayor of Colombo
Hafiz Mohammad Idrees

Sri Lanka is an important and interesting country of our region, having a
variety of people from different religions and origins. Despite having a small
population (20.5 mill), the country has the highest per capita income of $3250,
more than that of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Seventy per cent of
population practice Budhism while Hindus, Christians and Muslims comprise 15
per cent, 8 per cent and 7 per cent respectively.

Recently, Sri Lankan capital Colombo made the headlines when a poor
Muslim rickshaw driver was elected its mayor beating strong candidate of the
ruling party. Awais Mohammad Imtiaz, 23, has a unique distinction of being the
youngest and poorest mayor of Colombo's history and he overcame strong
pressures and incentives from the ruling party to withdraw from the contest.

Hailing from a very poor and humble family, Awais got elected merely due
to his determination. His election has been termed as the most unexpected and
unique in country's history since he belonged to the smallest religious
minority and is practically resourceless to contest such a high profile
election.

Orphaned in his childhood, Awais managed education until ninth grade and
then forced to take the hard course of earning livelihood for his family
comprising a mother and a sister. He remembered how his mother sold fried
potatoes and fish to earn livelihood for the family in his childhood. Until his
elections as mayor, Awais used to earn his living as a rickshaw driver. In the
elections, he was fully backed by other opposition parties like United Naitonal
Party and other social groups for his honesty, uprightness and steadfastness.
To prevent him from harassment, Awais was kept in hiding by a leader of
opposition's party until majority of the councilors voted in his favor in a
historic decision on June 30.

Awais has a wife and a two year old daughter. His wife works as a
housemaid in a foreign country for the sake of better future for their
daughter. She returns to the country once a year to spend some time with
husband and daughter.

After his elections as Lord Mayor of Colombo, Awais is quite busy with
the world media and his newfound popularity. He meets with guests and mediamen
in his usual simple clothes. Despite knowing English language he prefers to
speak in his mother tongue Sinhali to explain his future plans for the
improvement of civic conditions for the 2.7 million residents of Colombo.

Being a poor himself, he says that he better knows the poverty and the
problems it brings for the people. He has vowed to make Colombo a model city in
South Asia with clean roads, safe neighborhoods and beautiful parks and public
places. He wants to turn the city into a tourists' hub.

He has also vowed to make all affairs of the city administration
transparent and root out corruption which has ruled the city affairs in the
past. He has also announced to investigate the corruption cases of previous
administrations afresh so as to bring all the culprits to book.

Awais has made it clear to interviewers that he is neither racist nor
practices sectarianism. He likes to serve all the residents indiscriminately
since he considers himself a representative of the whole city. He said he has
no discrimination for people with respect to being Sinhalese, Tamil, Hindu or
Muslim. However, being a Muslim who knows poverty from the deep, he is fully
aware of the problems of the Muslim community whose majority is very poor.

Awais did not wait for getting adjusted in his new position and launched
the cleanliness drive in the city from the second day of his election. For his
critics, he has relived some of the greatest mayors in the world history. I
reckon him among Tayib Ordugan, (Turkish prime minister and former mayor of
Istanbul), Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (Iranian President and former mayor of Tehran)
and former mayor of Karachi Naimatullah Khan and Abdus Sattar Afghani since he
is repeating the history those three great mayors had made in their respective
cities. All the three afore mentioned Muslim personalities remained mayors of
big cities of Muslim countries but Awais has an edge over them as he has been
elected mayor of a city where Muslims are a small minority. These three
personalities were from not so affluent background but represented middle or
upper middle classes yet they had a sound educational career. But Awais's
educational and social background is in sharp contrast to them as he had lived
most of his life close to poverty line.

The day Awais shifted into the official residence of Lord Mayor of
Colombo, he said he really did not need such a large residence for himself and
his

As-Salaam Alaikum,
There is a time, and place for all deen related matters and a way to
conduct yourself without giving up your islamic identity. If these brothers own
these taxis then they are in the right. They have that choice. Any one whose
doesn't agree has the choice to ride in that taxi. Allah forgive me if I am
wrong. Your email brings about some relevant points. But, it also seems to say
that it is a priority , for you to accomodate and please non- muslims in their
transgressions and sins just to get his or her's thumbs up for Islam or a pat
on the head. It almost seems as if you are Pro-Alcohol. Place the white
flag back down into your pocket and stop surrendering our religion so easily.
Allah knows best.

Subject: Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Should Muslims Be Allowed To Impose Islam
On Others?

Many Muslim cab drivers in Minneapolis are refusing to allow passengers
carrying alcohol in their cabs, saying it is against the Islamic Shariah [law]
to do so. More than half the taxi drivers on the airport are Muslims, and as
soon as they got a majority, they have resorted to imposing their beliefs on
others.

Imagine if you have just flown in from Baghdad after a long flight, you can’t
wait to get home, reconnect with your family, and share a glass of some exotic
alcoholic drink that you purchased at the Dubai airport [a Muslim country] with
your wife to celebrate your return home alive from Iraq. It is 2:00 AM, but
your reunion is delayed because cab after cab, driven by Muslims, refuses to
take you home once they spot you carrying alcohol.

Sounds crazy, but sadly it is true. As a Muslim, I am both ashamed and shocked
at this strange conduct of my coreligionists. In principle, Islam does not
advocate imposition of Islamic values on others; there are several injunctions
in Islamic sources which make this clear. To cite only two: Let there be no
compulsion in religion [Quran: 2:256]

To us shall be accounted our deeds, and to you, your deeds. Let there be no
contention between us and you: God will bring us all together - for with Him is
all journey’s end [Quran, 42:15].But when it comes to contemporary Muslims, we
must always remember, there is always an ocean between what Islam teaches in
principle and what Muslims practice in reality. Most Muslims will acknowledge
this readily. I call it the ocean of ignorance.

Apparently, the cab drivers have provided the Metropolitan Airports Commission
with a fatwa, dated June 6, 2006, from the Fatwa department of the local
chapter of the Muslim American Society [MAS]. The fatwa proclaims that Islamic
jurisprudence prohibits taxi drivers from carrying passengers with alcohol,
because it involves cooperating in sin according to Islam.

MAS, the organization behind this fitna [Arabic for contention and strife], is
the American extention of the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt, and a close
affiliate of Islamic Circle of North America. MAS hypocritically run a public
affairs department called Freedom Foundation. I guess it is seeking the
freedom to infringe on the freedom of others.

To be fair to them, Islamic sources do forbid alcohol consumption unequivocally
[Quran 2:219] and Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him, also
forbid trade in alcohol [Bukhari 34:297, 8:449, 34:429], but all these sources
forbid selling and trading alcohol. Extending this ban to giving rides to tired
travelers carrying alcohol for personal consumption requires an irrational and
politically motivated leap that smells of mischief. Moderates and Muslims of
goodwill should not stand for such thinly veiled attempts to sow discord.

Most Muslim scholars and most Muslims of Minnesota will tell you that the fatwa
is indeed without merit. And indeed many Muslim voices, yours truly included,
have already condemned and ridiculed this position. Even in Saudi Arabia, which
is usually the champion when it comes to extremely narrow, irrational and
intolerant interpretations of Islam, non-Muslims are allowed to consume
alcohol, and even carry them on flights.

The alcohol issue is not really the problem. It is just the tip of the iceberg.
It raises a fundamental and critical issue of whether Muslims who live in free
and democratic societies can simultaneously demand freedom and tolerance for
Islam while denying others the same. Can we and should we demand freedom to
practice Islam, and then turn around and use these same freedoms to impose
anachronistic understandings of Islam on others?

What next? Will Muslim doctors working in ER refuse to administer to patients
brought in from an accident site or with a heart attack because they have
alcohol on their breath? Will Muslim doctors refuse to serve an HIV-positive
patient because he or she is

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Muslim clerics vs. female genital mutilation

Muslim clerics vs. female genital mutilation
After being introduced to ceremony while traveling in Africa, German human
rights activist decides to initiate move to stop custom from spreading. He
manages to organize rally of senior Sunni clerics in Egypt, who condemn
phenomenon: 'Genital mutilation must be considered criminal aggression against
mankind'
Gil Yaron

A German human rights activist organized a rally of Islamic clerics in Cairo,
which ended with a joint statement by the clerics that female genital
mutilation will be considered a crime against humanity. A conference at the
al-Azhar University in Cairo, which ended with a statement issued by 20
clerics: A Muslim must not hurt a Muslim. Therefore, the genital mutilation
must be considered as criminal aggression against mankind. The rally was
sponsored by the most esteemed religious establishment among the Sunnis, and
was fully supported by the Egyptian Ministry of Religion.

University President Sheikh Yusuf al-Qardawi, the most popular scholar and
preacher nowadays, also took part in the event.
Nehberg, who is not affiliated with any religious group but has positive views
on Islam, first encountered the phenomenon when he went on a bicycle ride in
Muslim countries.

Since then, he has been fighting firmly to put an end to the custom. Along with
his partner he established a small organization called Target. With the seven
members of his organization he has already made a lot of progress on the issue,
which leaves the UN efforts far behind. He convinced Sultan Ali Mira, leader of
the Sunnis in the Danakil desert, that female genital mutilation contradicts
the principles of Islam.

'Opportunity for Islam to portray itself differently'
With the help of the German Foreign Ministry, his efforts succeeded in other
places as well: In Djibouti, the sheikhs condemned the custom, and in
Mauritania he was asked to distribute the new fatwa among the Bedouins with a
procession of camels.
The clerics' ruling has yet to move the Muslim world.
It will take a long time before such an ancient custom disappears, estimated
Professor Muhammad Shamaa of the Islamic Research Academy at al-Azhar
University.
In spite of the firm ruling of important clerics such as al-Qardawi, the
solution for the problem is still far.
Among the Sunnis there is no central religious establishment which can impose
its opinion on the entire public, and therefore the issue remains open to the
interpretation of clerics from all factions.
Nehberg was a bit more optimistic: In the Muslim world there is a huge need
to discuss these issues, but there is no culture of discussing sensitive issues.
When someone from the outside asks questions in an honorable and sensitive
manner, positive changes can be made. This is an opportunity for Islam to
portray itself in a different way, and not in the way it is represented by
fanatic terrorists, he said.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] I want Muslim dead bodies

2006-11-29 Thread media critic

*Dear Brothers, Assalamu alaikkum...please Dua for our Sister Sirajunnisa 11
yrs old girl ..(india-kerala)*
**
*I want Muslim dead bodies

The Milli Gazette Online http://www.milligazette.com/

I want the dead bodies of Muslim bastards! The command over the
walkie-talkie was clear and loud. It came from a high level police officer.
His subordinate heeded to his call and presented him with a Muslim dead
body. It was the body of an 11-year-old girl riddled with bullets. This
happened in 1991 and the police officer who had clamoured for Muslim dead
bodies is none other Raman Srivastava, newly appointed chief of Kerala
police, B. F. FIROS reports from Calicut

It's been more than 14 years since an innocent girl was shot dead at the
behest of a ruthless police officer. Instead of punishing the guilty, the
government has been trying to protect him. Moreover, with the recent
appointment of the officer, Raman Srivastava, as the Kerala police chief,
all hopes of justice for Sirajunissa's bereaved family have been dashed.

It was 1991. The Sangh Parivar had just started to show its fangs and claws,
the time when it was trying its best to extract the maximum out of the Ram
Mandir issue. The then chief of BJP, Murli Manohar Joshi, was on his Ekta
Yatra from Kanyakumari to Srinagar. Joshi's Yatra traversed through the
interiors of India igniting communal passions and thereby strengthening the
footholds of Sangh Parivar.

Raman Srivastava

On December 13 an Upayatra which was to join Joshi's Ekata Yatra was
attacked in Mepparambu, two kilometers away from Palakkad in Kerala. The
Yatra was led by the state president of BJP's youth wing. As the Sangh
Parivar wished, tension erupted in some parts of the district causing
ripples in the hitherto peaceful waters of Palakkad's communal life. A tense
situation prevailed the next day as Muslims and the BJP activists mobilised
themselves at various places, and the police had to resort to lathi-charge
and firing to disperse the crowds.

The next day, December 15, witnessed widespread arson and rioting by some
sections from both the communities in Mepparambu and adjoining areas. It was
on this day that a ruthless state took the life of an 11-year-old innocent
girl called Sirajunisa.

The police reached the spot by 12 noon only to terrorise the innocent people
in the locality. Instead of arresting the criminals they just shot
indiscriminately which left three innocent youths injured. By noon the then
DIG, Raman Srivastava, took control of the control room. From here onwards
Srivastava was the man who directed all operations from there.

By noon Shornur ASP Sandhya was passing through Puthuppally junction and
found some stones placed on the road to block traffic. Till then no violence
had been reported from this area. The ASP asked an old man in a nearby shop
to remove the stones from the road. When he refused to obey, she took him
into custody. This infuriated the locals who blocked her jeep. On hearing
the news of Sandhya being blocked on her way, Deputy SP Chandran rushed to
the spot by 3 PM. At this time Sirajunnisa and her sister were playing in
front of their home which was some 600 yards away from the spot of police
picket. Their neighbour, Mohammed, was watching the girls playing over the
compound wall. According to Kolakkadan Moosa Haji, who witnessed the whole
incident including the conversations between the police through the wireless
and the subsequent firing of the girl, but for the police picket the street
was empty and there wasn't any violent mob.

To a query by Raman Srivastava, Sandhya replied through wireless that there
was no need of firing since the atmosphere was peaceful and all the people
in the locality are inside their homes. To this the DIG shouted back through
the wireless furiously ordering her to fire at the Muslim bastards there.
She replied that there was no one around in the vicinity except two small
girls playing and a man watching. Shoot them down if no one else is around.
Let them die like dogs, was Srivastava's order. When she started to say
something Srivastava asked her to pass the wireless receiver to Deputy SP
Chandran.
To Srivastava's query on whether there were any girls playing there,
Chandran replied in the positive. Then he said: I want the dead bodies of
some Muslim bastards and ordered him to shoot them down at once. The order
was promptly heeded as two constables executed the order by firing at
Sirajunisa. (In the meanwhile, her younger sister had got inside the house).
The bullet hit just below Sirajunisa's nose and pierced through the back of
her head. She died on the spot. Soon after the firing, the DSP called back
the DIG and informed him that he had executed the order. The DIG ordered him
to remove the body immediately from the scene.

What followed were ghastly incidents of police insensitivity and barbarity.
When Ali, Sirajunisa's neighbour, heard the sound of firing he rushed out of
his home and

  The basis of our civilization
From the very outset, Muslim civilization was built on foundations supplied
by ideology alone. It has never had anything to do with the concepts of race or
nation, and so it lacks the cement of racial or national homogeneity which was
and is so decisive a factor in all other civilizations. Ours has always been an
ideological civilization - with the Law of the Qur'an and its source and, more
then that, as its only historical justification. To speak of the Muslim ummah
as of something politically justified and culturally valuable (and therefore to
be cherished and defended) and, in the same breath, to question the importance
of Islamic Law as the form-giving element in our life is hypocritical or,
alternatively, an outcome of ignorance. For what values remain in that
much-vaunted ummah if we resile from its shar'i background? Certainly not a
social philosophy worth the name: for that is based on the concept, derived
from the shari'ah, of a divinely-willed order in human
relation. And certainly not its ethics: for, a Muslim's notions of good and
evil flow in their entirety from the Qur'an and the teachings of the Prophet.
And not even a political ideal: for, the only political ideal which has
distinguished the Muslims from the rest of mankind was the revolutionary
concept of a brotherhood of men united not by ties of blood or race but by
their consciousness of a common outlook on life and common aspirations: a
concept realized nearly fourteen centuries ago in the establishment of the
Islamic ummah - a community open to every man and woman, of whatever race or
color, who accepted this common ideal, and closed to everyone, even one's
nearest kinsman, who refused to accept it : in brief, a real social contract.

Riba/Interst in our favor which has been done by earlier people as
pointed in Quran about the Bani Israels who accepted some
instructions of allah and denied others just for the sake of their
benifit.
May allah show us the right path.

As a student of Quran I Perceive that the term Riba is INTEREST on
money lent to others.

Lending of money can broadly fall into two categories. One is for
helping a needy one and the other is to augment resources and
increase productivity.

Lending, borrowing, leasing and hiring are inevitable necessities
of business. To ensure justice and equity in business the Society may
make rules for commercial loans but it cannot undermine the sanctity
of Riba-free plan of loan introduced by Allah, for survival of the
people deserving charity.

People were under the illusion that Riba is an earning like profit
in trading (2:275) and that they can avail themselves of it under all
circumstances. Allah said No these are different, I permit trade and
prohibit Riba (2:275) keep your past earnings and stop charging the
interest from now onward (2:275) and also if the debtor is unable to
pay, wait for a better time. It would be still better If you give up
the loan by way of charity, (2:280) The debtor spoken of here is
obviously a man of limited means who may not be able to pay off the
loan and not an entrepreneur.

Looking into the subject of spending money in the way of Allah we
find that the word Riba is interwoven in 11 verses of Sura Baqarah
(271 to 281). This definitely is not a coincidence that as many as 11
verses on one subject are put together. As also encapsulating the
word riba in these verses is not without purpose.

A careful study of these verses indicate that Allah the Almighty
has allowed gain in trading but is not pleased with making money at
the constraints of people deserving charity. This gives me a feeling
that prohibition of interest is specific. It applies to the cases
where help on charitable basis is called for and Allah want us to
keep open an alternate door of charity by including in our economic
system a package of interest-free loan for the those who need our
help for their survival.

 Lending of money to such people shall be a matter of benevolence;
It shall be free of interest without the question of inflation and
devaluation. This according to Quran is obligatory and who ever
refrain from it is the companion of Fire.

Question is: Refrain from what? (1) lending on interest under all
circumstances or (2) refusing to give loan without interest to needy
ones. The second situation in my opinion is closing upon those the
doors of help about whom Allah says:

 (a) Help them with loan and charge no interest (Riba)
 (b) Do not press them for return of loan.
 (c) Give up the amount of loan by way of charity if they are not
able to pay

Surly Allah is not talking about traders, industrialists,
enterprisers and billionaires.

Looking into the aforementioned verses of Quran I am of the firm
opinion that Allah wants us to make a provision in our budget at all
levels for giving charity or interest-free loan to needy ones without
the consideration of gain, loss, depreciation, inflation or
devaluation. Rest is business and a man is free to exchange money on
mutually agreed terms.

 Allah knows better.

Riba (interest, usury) is primarily an economic issue in view of
the fact that all religions and mythologies have prohibited,
restricted, discouraged, disliked, or degraded Riba in one way or the
other since the inception of human interaction. All three major
revealed (Ilhami) religions i.e., Islam, Christianity, and Judaism
have strongly condemned and prohibited Riba in its original versions.
Later, the clerics of Jews and
