Woonsan Ko commented on VFS-360:

While contributing with JCR-4354 (and JCR-3975), I've bumped on this. :-)
As Jackrabbit WebDAV module upgraded it to HttpComponents 4.x already, the
webdav: protocol doesn't work either with the latest Jackrabbit module, which I
have to use for the new Jackrabbit features.
Anyway, I'd like to help with this by working and providing PRs. Stay tuned!

Thanks!

Woonsan

P.S. If this issue gets resolved, the next step will be to upgrade the
Jackrabbit WebDAV dependency for webdav: protocol accordingly.

A good reason for migrating to 4+ is that
[CVE-2012-5783|http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5783] was
fixed in 4.2.3, but never in 3.

If that would mean a newer Jackrabbit, why not stepping up to Java 7?

Thanks... not quite a question for this thread, but am here: seems Apache
commons isn't on github. What's the process for contributing the analog of a
pull request to
https://commons.apache.org/proper/commons-vfs/source-repository.html ?

Happy to provide one. Just figured if Julian had been in the code (relatively)
recently and knew that the other dependencies on 3.1 of HttpClient were
removed, then the upgrade/patch (pull request) would be simpler.

WebdavFileObject extends HttpFileObject. At the very best it would be quite odd
to have the HTTP support coming from HttpClient 4 while the Webdav portions
come for HttpClient 3. At worst it just wouldn't work.

HC4 uses a different groupId/artifactId and package names, so AFAICT VFS could
be updated without affecting JackRabbit.

I believe this requires an upgrade to 4.x? VFS has a dependency on Jackrabbit
for Webdav and Jackrabbit still uses httpclient 3.0.
