Regarding fix for node-xcode, could you please take a look at 
https://github.com/vladimir-kotikov/node-xcode/commit/beb12df445646a8dd0d466131dd43552339c4206.
 This should be enough to resolve the issue and have one code working in both 
node v0.12 and v4.

@vladimir-kotikov yes change to node-code looks good send the PR to see 
what they want to do, we don't have to wait for a new node-xcode since we 
switched cordova-lib to use sync method which is preferred in this situation

I agree with the change then after explanation.

I still think it should be nice to let the owner of Xcode about a problem 
of their code with Node4 and open a issue on their repo and suggestion on how 
to handle.

@csantanapr  re: not a fan of sync in node.js

Sync becomes a problem if you're wasting precious cycles in a single 
operation, instead of using async to potentially handle multiple operations.  
For CLI tools, it's often the case that you need to do stuff serially anyway, 
so async actually becomes a problem, in terms of arranging those serial 
operations.

In this case, I think parsing sync is most likely fine.  Especially given 
the timings provided - thx @vladimir-kotikov

Should also note that node v4 has added a callback to send() to fix this.  
Doesn't help for node < v3, but you could hack a 1 sec timeout to "emulate" it 
(under most conditions anyway).  Smells bad, but prolly would work.

In general I'm not fan on Sync in nodejs, but would like to understand

The `xcode`'s `parse` method uses `child_process.fork` API to run parser in 
a separate worker process, which then reports parsing result to parent process 
via `child_process.send`. However `send` became async in node v4 so this 
communication doesn't work properly now.

Although, `parseSync` method is even more efficient (at least for small 
project) since it doesn't creates a a new instance of node process. From 
official `child_process` docs:
> These child Node.js processes are still whole new instances of V8. Assume 
at least 30ms startup and 10mb memory for each new Node.js. That is, you cannot 
create many thousands of them.

Also compare execution time for tests from 
https://github.com/MSOpenTech/cordova-lib/commit/81eef5f7d0ee46a88c2a6836fd87c6c1c1ab216d:
 ~0.9 seconds for this branch (sync parsing) and ~2.7 second if applied to 
current master (async). The difference IMO is caused by cost of spawning node 
processes.

@nikhilkh, i've reworked tests for ios_parser so they work with real xcode 
project instead of mocking it. 

Regarding second question - yes, all the tests are passing (ran 
cordova-lib, cordova-js, platforms tests and mobilespec).

But I think that's a red herring in this case.  Not seeing anywhere in the code

I have this issue with iojs-v2.4.0, and installed plugins with http/ssh git 
specs

cordova prepare stop at the mentionned line and hooks dont get executed

Sorry for being a n00b, but I'm not familiar with cordova much anymore, so need 
a simple example to reproduce the problem.

Can I repro with the default sample?  And then just add a plugin?  Can you 
provide an example of a plugin that's not working for you?

OK, so I think I figured out the cordova hooks thing (neat!).  In my default 
project (hello sample), I added two hooks, for {{before_build}} and 
{{after_build}}:

$ cat hooks/before_build/log.js

$ cat hooks/after_build/log.js
#!/usr/bin/env node

console.log('- after build')

When I do a {{cordova build}}, I see the following output bracket the output of 
the build:

Works fine for me on Mac Yosemite, with io.js 2.4.0 and 3.2.0, cordova 5.2.0

Was it some code in your hook that caused the reference line in {{platform.js}} 
to be executed? Could you provide an example.

Thanks Julien, was able to reproduce with your example.

Agree with Robert that lack of a {{.catch()}} at the end of the {{.then()}} 
chains smells fishy.  Tried instrumenting the referenced module, was unable to 
see my instrumented output on the failure condition.  May be being caught by 
someone else and thrown away, or perhaps there's a similar problem, that's 
happening earlier, dunno.

Happy to look into it more, if anyone has any more hints.

I don't have time to check with iojs right now (I switched back to Node 0.12 
once I realised what the problem was), but I didn't get the impression that 
hooks were the issue per se though I could be wrong. For the record I specified 
the hook from the config file, which seems to be the new way:

If I can find any more info I'll post it ASAP. Without understanding the code 
fully it looks like the line referenced by Julien above needs a .catch at the 
end of the chain of .thens, otherwise promises have a way of swallowing up 
important errors.

If i remember correctly, this line with `raw.prepare` fails, which stop the 
promise and we dont get any traceback in the console.

I just tried running {{cordova build}} and {{cordova emulate}} with io.js 1.8.1 
(originally reported version with error), and with iojs 3.2.0 (latest as of 
this comment) with cordova 5.2.0, and everything appeared to run correctly, to 
me.  But I'm a bit rusty - perhaps I'm missing something (like, what the hooks 
are).
