 Building trunk with hadoop.profile=3.0 gives exceptions (see [1]) due to
 change in the hadoop maven modules naming (and also usage of 3.0-SNAPSHOT
 instead of 3.0.0-SNAPSHOT in hbase-common).
 I can provide a patch that would move most of hadoop dependencies in their
 respective profiles and will define the correct hadoop deps in the 3.0
 profile.
 Please tell me if that's ok to go this way.
 Thx, Eric

 In internal tests at Salesforce we found that fake row keys sometimes are
 passed to filters (Filter.filterRowKey(...) specifically).
 The KVs are eventually filtered by the StoreScanner/ScanQueryMatcher, but the
 row key is passed to filterRowKey in RegionScannImpl *before* that happens.

 random port. If already 60010 is used then when standby master comes up then
 it fails due to bind exception.

 With coprocessors hooks while put happens we have the provision to create new
 puts to other tables or regions. These puts can be done with writeToWal as
 false.
 In 0.94 and above the puts are first written to memstore and then to WAL. If
 any failure in the WAL append or sync the memstore is rollbacked.
 Now the problem is that if the put that happens in the main flow fails there
 is no way to rollback the
 puts that happened in the prePut.
 We can add coprocessor hooks to like pre/postRoolBackMemStore. Is any one
 hook enough here?

 - Create table using splitkeys
 - MAster goes down before all regions are added to meta
 - On master restart the table is again enabled but with less number of
 regions than specified in splitkeys
 Anyway client will get an exception if i had called sync create table. But
 table exists or not check will say table exists.
 Is this scenario to be handled by client only or can we have some mechanism
 on the master side for this? Pls suggest.

 There a couple of JIRAs for deleting the znode on a process failure:
 HBASE-5844 (RS)
 HBASE-5926 (Master)
 which are pretty neat; on process failure, they delete the znode of the
 underlying process so HBase can recover faster.
 These JIRAs were implemented via the startup scripts; i.e. the script hangs
 around and waits for the process to exit, then deletes the znode.
 There are a few problems associated with this approach, as listed in the
 below JIRAs:
 1) Hides startup output in script
 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-5844?focusedCommentId=13463401page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-13463401

 3) Not run by a real supervisor
 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-5844?focusedCommentId=13463409page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-13463409

 5) Can kill existing RS if called again
 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-5844?focusedCommentId=13463401page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-13463401
 6) Hides stdout/stderr[6]

 I suspect running in via something like supervisor.d can solve these issues
 if we provide the right support.

 Project: HBase
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: Client, master, regionserver, snapshots, Zookeeper
Reporter: Jonathan Hsieh
Assignee: Matteo Bertozzi
 Fix For: 0.99.1

 Restore will do updates to the file system and to meta. it seems that an
 inopportune failure before meta is completely updated could result in an
 inconsistent state that would require hbck to fix.
 We should define what the semantics are for recovering from this. Some
 suggestions:
 1) Fail Forward (see some log saying restore's meta edits not completed, then
 gather information necessary to build it all from fs, and complete meta
 edits.).
 2) Fail backwards (see some log saying restore's meta edits not completed,
 delete incomplete snapshot region entries from meta.)
 I think I prefer 1 -- if two processes end somehow updating (somehow the
 original master didn't die, and a new one started up) they would be
 idempotent. If we used 2, we could still have a race and still be in a bad
 place.

 Subject: Why hbase need manual split?
 To: u...@hbase.apache.org u...@hbase.apache.org
 Hi, all,
 As I understand, HBase will automatically split a region when the region is
 too big.
 So in what scenario, user needs to do a manual split? Could someone kindly
 give me some examples that user need to do the region split explicitly via
 HBase Shell or Java API?
 Thanks very much.

 Ming

 - Create table using splitkeys
 - MAster goes down before all regions are added to meta
 - On master restart the table is again enabled but with less number of
 regions than specified in splitkeys
 Anyway client will get an exception if i had called sync create table. But
 table exists or not check will say table exists.
 Is this scenario to be handled by client only or can we have some mechanism
 on the master side for this? Pls suggest.

 We just ran into a strange issue where could neither start nor stop services
 with hbase-deamon.sh.
 The problem is this:
 {code}
 nohup nice -n $HBASE_NICENESS $HBASE_HOME/bin/hbase \
 --config ${HBASE_CONF_DIR} \
 $command $@ $startStop  $logout 21  /dev/null
 echo $!  $pid
 {code}
 So the pid file is created or updated even when the start of the service
 failed. The next stop command will then fail, because the pid file has the
 wrong pid in it.
 Edit: Spelling and more spelling errors.

 HBASE-6618_5.patch

 Apart from current ability to specify fuzzy row filter e.g. for
 userId_actionId format as _0004 (where 0004 - actionId) it would be
 great to also have ability to specify the fuzzy range , e.g. _0004,
 ..., _0099.
 See initial discussion here: http://search-hadoop.com/m/WVLJdX0Z65
 Note: currently it is possible to provide multiple fuzzy row rules to
 existing FuzzyRowFilter, but in case when the range is big (contains
 thousands of values) it is not efficient.
 Filter should perform efficient fast-forwarding during the scan (this is what
 distinguishes it from regex row filter).
 While such functionality may seem like a proper fit for custom filter (i.e.
 not including into standard filter set) it looks like the filter may be very
 re-useable. We may judge based on the implementation that will hopefully be
 added.

 Currently the lock timeout values and defaults are set and shared at the
 TableLockManager level.
 One TableLockManager is shared on the master. We should allow the lock
 timeout to be set at individual lock level when we instantiate the lock.
 Components using the locks may have different timeout preferences.

 HTableDescriptor's compareTo function compares a set of HColumnDescriptors
 against another set of HColumnDescriptors. It iterates through both, relying
 on the fact that they will be in the same order.
 In my testing, I may have seen this issue come up, so I decided to fix it.
 It's a straightforward fix. I convert the sets into a hashset for O(1)
 lookups (at least in theory), then I check that all items in the first set
 are found in the second.
 Since the sizes are the same, we know that if all elements showed up in the
 second set, then they must be equal.

 Project: HBase
  Issue Type: Improvement

 Fix For: 0.99.1

 Attachments: HBASE-7115_trunk.patch, HBASE-7115_trunk.patch,
 HBASE-7115_trunk_v2.patch

 HBASE-5428 added this capability to thrift interface but the configuration
 parameter name is thrift specific.
 This patch introduces a more generic parameter hbase.user.filters using
 which the user defined custom filters can be specified in the configuration
 and loaded in any client that needs to use the filter language parser.
 The patch then uses this new parameter to register any user specified filters
 while invoking the HBase shell.
 Example usage: Let's say I have written a couple of custom filters with class
 names *{{org.apache.hadoop.hbase.filter.custom.SuperDuperFilter}}* and
 *{{org.apache.hadoop.hbase.filter.custom.SilverBulletFilter}}* and I want to
 use them from HBase shell using the filter language.
 To do that, I would add the following configuration to {{hbase-site.xml}}
 {panel}{{property}}
 {{  namehbase.user.filters/name}}
 {{
 value}}*{{SuperDuperFilter}}*{{:org.apache.hadoop.hbase.filter.custom.SuperDuperFilter,}}*{{SilverBulletFilter}}*{{:org.apache.hadoop.hbase.filter.custom.SilverBulletFilter/value}}
 {{/property}}{panel}
 Once this is configured, I can launch HBase shell and use these filters in my
 {{get}} or {{scan}} just the way I would use a built-in filter.
 {code}
 hbase(main):001:0 scan 't', {FILTER = SuperDuperFilter(true) AND
 SilverBulletFilter(42)}
 ROW  COLUMN+CELL
  status  column=cf:a,
 timestamp=30438552, value=world_peace
 1 row(s) in 0. seconds
 {code}
 To use this feature in any client, the client needs to make the following
 function call as part of its initialization.
 {code}
 ParseFilter.registerUserFilters(configuration);
 {code}

 This is the problem: {{TableMapReduceUtil#addDependencyJars}} relies on
 {{org.apache.hadoop.util.JarFinder}} if available to call {{getJar()}}.
 However {{getJar()}} uses File.createTempFile() to create a temporary file
 under {{hadoop.tmp.dir}}{{/target/test-dir}}. Due HADOOP-9737 the created jar
 and its content is not purged after the JVM is destroyed. Since most
 configurations point {{hadoop.tmp.dir}} under {{/tmp}} the generated jar
 files get purged by {{tmpwatch}} or a similar tool, but boxes that have
 {{hadoop.tmp.dir}} pointing to a different location not monitored by
 {{tmpwatch}} will pile up a collection of jars causing all kind of issues.
 Since {{JarFinder#getJar}} is not a public API from Hadoop (see [~tucu00]
 comment on HADOOP-9737) we shouldn't use that as part of
 {{TableMapReduceUtil}} in order to avoid this kind of issues.

 To do that, I would add the following configuration to {{hbase-site.xml}}
 {panel}{{property}}
 {{  namehbase.user.filters/name}}
 {{
 value}}*{{SuperDuperFilter}}*{{:org.apache.hadoop.hbase.filter.custom.SuperDuperFilter,}}*{{SilverBulletFilter}}*{{:org.apache.hadoop.hbase.filter.custom.SilverBulletFilter/value}}
 {{/property}}{panel}
 Once this is configured, I can launch HBase shell and use these filters in my
 {{get}} or {{scan}} just the way I would use a built-in filter.
 {code}
 hbase(main):001:0 scan 't', {FILTER = SuperDuperFilter(true) AND
 SilverBulletFilter(42)}
 ROW  COLUMN+CELL
  status  column=cf:a,
 timestamp=30438552, value=world_peace
 1 row(s) in 0. seconds
 {code}
 To use this feature in any client, the client needs to make the following
 function call as part of its initialization.
 {code}
 ParseFilter.registerUserFilters(configuration);
 {code}

 This is a similar issue as discussed in HBASE-8228
 1) A scanner holds the Store.ReadLock() while opening the store files ...
 encounters errors. Thus, takes a long time to finish.
 2) A flush is completed, in the mean while. It needs the write lock to
 commit(), and update scanners. Hence ends up waiting.
 3+) All Puts (and also Gets) to the CF, which will need a read lock, will
 have to wait for 1) and 2) to complete. Thus blocking updates to the system
 for the DFS timeout.
 Fix:
  Open Store files outside the read lock. getScanners() already tries to do
 this optimisation. However, Store.getScanner() which calls this functions
 through the StoreScanner constructor, redundantly tries to grab the readLock.
 Causing the readLock to be held while the storeFiles are being opened, and
 seeked.
  We should get rid of the readLock() in Store.getScanner(). This is not
 required. The constructor for StoreScanner calls getScanners(xxx, xxx, xxx).
 This has the required locking already.

 May be I can see if there is anyother different way to do it but just asking

different interface APIs.

 We need a pluggable endpoint for replication for more flexibility. See parent
 jira for more context.
 ReplicationSource tails the logs for each peer. This jira introduces
 ReplicationEndpoint which is customizable per peer. ReplicationEndpoint is
 run in the same RS process and instantiated per replication peer per region
 server. Implementations of this interface handle the actual shipping of WAL
 edits to the remote cluster.

 HBASE-10412 allows distributed replay to send WAL entries with tags intact
 between RegionServers by substituting a WALCodec directly for the RPC codec.
 We should instead have distributed replay handle WAL entries including tags
 with its own tag-aware RPC codec and drop the direct use of WALCodecs for
 that purpose.

 For Restful servlet (org.apache.hadoop.hbase.rest.Main (0.94),
 org.apache.hadoop.hbase.rest.RESTServer (trunk)) on Jetty, we need to first
 explicitly start the service (% ./bin/hbase-daemon.sh start rest -p 8000 )
 for application running. Here is a scenario, sometimes, HBase cluster are
 stopped/started for maintanence, but rest is a seperated standalone process,
 which binds the HBaseAdmin at construction method.
 HBase stop/start cause this binding lost for existing rest servlet. Rest
 servlet still exist to trying on old bound HBaseAdmin until a long time
 duration later with an Unavailable caught via an IOException caught in
 such as RootResource.
 Could we pairwise the HBase service with HBase rest service with some
 start/stop options? since seems no reason to still keep the rest servlet
 process after HBase stopped? When HBase restarts, original rest service could
 not resume to bind to the new HBase service via its old HBaseAdmin reference?
 So may we stop the rest when hbase stopped, or even if hbase was killed by
 acident, restart hbase with rest option could detect the old rest process,
 kill it and start to bind a new one?
 From this point of view, application rely on rest api in previous scenario
 could immediately detect it when setting up http connection session instead
 of wasting a long time to fail back from IOException with Unavailable from
 rest servlet.
 Put current options from the discussion history here from Andrew, Stack and
 Jean-Daniel,
 1) create an HBaseAdmin on demand in rest servlet instead of keeping
 singleton instance; (another possible enhancement for HBase client: automatic
 reconnection of an open HBaseAdmin handle after a cluster bounce?)
 2) pairwise the rest webapp with hbase webui so the rest is always on with
 HBase serive;
 3) add an option for rest service (such as HBASE_MANAGES_REST) in
 hbase-env.sh, set HBASE_MANAGES_REST to true, the scripts will start/stop the
 REST server.

 As part of HBASE-10801, we tried to reduce the copy of the value [] in
 forming the KV from the DBEs.
 The keys required copying and this was restricting us in using Cells and
 always wanted to copy to be done.
 The idea here is to replace the key byte[] as ByteBuffer and create a
 consecutive stream of the keys (currently the same byte[] is used and hence
 the copy). Use offset and length to track this key bytebuffer.
 The copy of the encoded format to normal Key format is definitely needed and
 can't be avoided but we could always avoid the deep copy of the bytes to form
 a KV and thus use cells effectively. Working on a patch, will post it soon.

 In many places this is simple task of just replacing the method name.
 There, however, quite a few places where we assume that:
 # the entire KV is backed by a single byte array
 # the KVs key portion is backed by a single byte array
 Some of those can easily be fixed, others will need their own jiras.

 2) pairwise the rest webapp with hbase webui so the rest is always on with
 HBase serive;
 3) add an option for rest service (such as HBASE_MANAGES_REST) in
 hbase-env.sh, set HBASE_MANAGES_REST to true, the scripts will start/stop the
 REST server.

 HBASE-11126 mentions concurrency issues we are running into as the security
 code increases in sophistication, due to current placement of coprocessor
 hooks, and proposes a solution to those issues with the expectation that
 security code remains outside of core in coprocessors. However, as an
 alternative we could consider moving all AccessController and
 VisibilityController related code into core. Worth discussing?

 These 2 APIs deal with KVs
 add(KeyValue kv)
 ArrayListKeyValue getKeyValues()
 Suggest deprecate them and add for 0.98
 add(Cell kv)
 ListCell getCells()
 And just replace from 1.0

 In almost all other main interface class/APIs we have changed KeyValue to
 Cell. But missing in WALEdit. This is public marked for Replication (Well it
 should be for CP also)
 These 2 APIs deal with KVs
 add(KeyValue kv)
 ArrayListKeyValue getKeyValues()
 Suggest deprecate them and add for 0.98
 add(Cell kv)
 ListCell getCells()
 And just replace from 1.0

These were deprecated from 0.96. We have 0.98 one more major version after
that. Suggest this can be removed from 0.99 time.

The impl in BaseRegionObserver is as below which can be very inefficient
especially when we read from a DBE files. There we return not KeyValue but a
new Cell impl (here by avoiding the need to copy value bytes) The
KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue can kill this nice optimization if we come across
this.
{code}
public void preGetOp(final ObserverContextRegionCoprocessorEnvironment e,
  final Get get, final ListCell results) throws IOException {
// By default we are executing the deprecated preGet to support legacy
RegionObservers
// We may use the results coming in and we may return the results going out.
ListKeyValue kvs = new ArrayListKeyValue(results.size());
for (Cell c : results) {
  kvs.add(KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue(c));
}
preGet(e, get, kvs);
results.clear();
results.addAll(kvs);

 Inside the pom under the maven-release-plugin there is a configuration that
 defines what the release-plugin uses like so
 configuration
 !--You need this profile. It'll sign your artifacts.
 I'm not sure if this config. actually works though.
 I've been specifying -Papache-release on the command-line
  --
 releaseProfilesapache-release/releaseProfiles
 !--This stops our running tests for each stage of maven release.
 But it builds the test jar. From SUREFIRE-172.
   --
 arguments-Dmaven.test.skip.exec/arguments
 pomFileNamepom.xml/pomFileName
   /configuration
 The arguments are hardcoded in and will automatically override any arguments
 the user passes in from the command line.
 I propose to modify this to the following
 arguments-Dmaven.test.skip.exec ${arguments}/arguments

 Subject: Why hbase need manual split?
 To: u...@hbase.apache.org u...@hbase.apache.org
 Hi, all,
 As I understand, HBase will automatically split a region when the region is
 too big.
 So in what scenario, user needs to do a manual split? Could someone kindly
 give me some examples that user need to do the region split explicitly via
 HBase Shell or Java API?
 Thanks very much.

 Ming

Anoop Sam John commented on HBASE-11805:

Reading the Phoenix code, I think I got the issue.
{code}
WALEdit edit = miniBatchOp.getWalEdit(i);
  // we don't have a WALEdit for immutable index cases, which still see
this path
  // we could check is indexing is enable for the mutation in prePut and
then just skip this
  // after checking here, but this saves us the checking again.
  if (edit != null) {
KeyValue kv = edit.getKeyValues().get(0);
if (kv == BATCH_MARKER) {
  // remove batch marker from the WALEdit
  edit.getKeyValues().remove(0);
}
  }
{code}
BATCH_MARKER is a KV with null bytes. This removal wont happen now as we
return a new ArrayList from WALEdit#getKeyValues()
Thinking abt how we can solve.

 These hooks, dealing with ListKeyValue, were deprecated since 0.96. We have
 0.98, one more major version after that. Suggest this can be removed from
 0.99 time.
 The impl in BaseRegionObserver is as below which can be very inefficient
 especially when we read from a DBE files. There we return not KeyValue but a
 new Cell impl (here by avoiding the need to copy value bytes) The
 KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue can kill this nice optimization if we come across
 this.
 {code}
 public void preGetOp(final ObserverContextRegionCoprocessorEnvironment e,
   final Get get, final ListCell results) throws IOException {
 // By default we are executing the deprecated preGet to support legacy
 RegionObservers
 // We may use the results coming in and we may return the results going
 out.
 ListKeyValue kvs = new ArrayListKeyValue(results.size());
 for (Cell c : results) {
   kvs.add(KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue(c));
 }
 preGet(e, get, kvs);
 results.clear();
 results.addAll(kvs);
   }
 {code}

 Inside the pom under the maven-release-plugin there is a configuration that
 defines what the release-plugin uses like so
 configuration
 !--You need this profile. It'll sign your artifacts.
 I'm not sure if this config. actually works though.
 I've been specifying -Papache-release on the command-line
  --
 releaseProfilesapache-release/releaseProfiles
 !--This stops our running tests for each stage of maven release.
 But it builds the test jar. From SUREFIRE-172.
   --
 arguments-Dmaven.test.skip.exec/arguments
 pomFileNamepom.xml/pomFileName
   /configuration
 The arguments are hardcoded in and will automatically override any arguments
 the user passes in from the command line.
 I propose to modify this to the following
 arguments-Dmaven.test.skip.exec ${arguments}/arguments

 These hooks, dealing with ListKeyValue, were deprecated since 0.96. We have
 0.98, one more major version after that. Suggest this can be removed from
 0.99 time.
 The impl in BaseRegionObserver is as below which can be very inefficient
 especially when we read from a DBE files. There we return not KeyValue but a
 new Cell impl (here by avoiding the need to copy value bytes) The
 KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue can kill this nice optimization if we come across
 this.
 {code}
 public void preGetOp(final ObserverContextRegionCoprocessorEnvironment e,
   final Get get, final ListCell results) throws IOException {
 // By default we are executing the deprecated preGet to support legacy
 RegionObservers
 // We may use the results coming in and we may return the results going
 out.
 ListKeyValue kvs = new ArrayListKeyValue(results.size());
 for (Cell c : results) {
   kvs.add(KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue(c));
 }
 preGet(e, get, kvs);
 results.clear();
 results.addAll(kvs);

 In FSHLog$SyncRunner.offer we do BlockingQueue.add() which throws Exception
 as it is full. The problem is the below shown catch() we do not do any
 cleanup.
 {code}
 this.syncRunners[index].offer(sequence, this.syncFutures,
 this.syncFuturesCount);
 attainSafePoint(sequence);
 this.syncFuturesCount = 0;
   } catch (Throwable t) {
 LOG.error(UNEXPECTED!!!, t);
   }
 {code}
 syncFuturesCount is not getting reset to 0 and so the subsequent onEvent()
 handling throws ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException.
 I think we should do the below
 1. Handle the Exception and call cleanupOutstandingSyncsOnException() as in
 other cases of Exception handling
 2. Instead of BlockingQueue.add() use offer() (?)

 Late-binding sequenceid presumes a particular KeyValue mvcc format hampering
 experiment
 ---

 Key: HBASE-11401
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-11401
 Project: HBase
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 0.99.0
Reporter: Anoop Sam John
Priority: Critical
 Fix For: 0.99.1

 Attachments: 11401.changing.order.txt, memstore.txt,
 nopatch.traces.svg, wpatch.traces.svg

 After HBASE-8763, we have combined KV mvcc and HLog seqNo. This is
 implemented in a tricky way now.
 In HRegion on write path, we first write to memstore and then write to HLog
 finally sync log. So at the time of write to memstore we dont know the WAL
 seqNo. To overcome this, we hold the ref to the KV objects just added to
 memstore and pass those also to write to wal call. Once the seqNo is
 obtained, we will reset the mvcc is those KVs with this seqNo. (While write
 to memstore we wrote kvs with a very high temp value for mvcc so that
 concurrent readers wont see them)
 This model works well with the DefaultMemstore. During the write there wont
 be any concurrent call to snapshot().
 But now we have memstore as a pluggable interface. The above model of late
 binding assumes that the memstore internal datastructure continue to refer to
 same java objects. This might not be true always. Like in HBASE-10713, in
 btw the kvs can be converted into a CellBlock. If we discontinue to refer to
 same KV java objects, we will fail in getting the seqNo assigned as kv mvcc.
 If we were doing write and sync to wal and then write to memstore, this would
 have get solved. But this model we changed (in 94 I believe) for better perf.
 Under HRegion level lock, we write to memstore and then to wal. Finally out
 of lock we do the the log sync. So we can not change it now
 I tried changing the order of ops within the lock (ie. write to log and then
 to memstore) so that we can get the seqNo when write to memstore. But because
 of the new HLog write model, we are not guarenteed to get the write to done
 immediately.
 One possible way can be add a new API in Log level, to get a next seqNo
 alone. Call this first and then using which write to memstore and then to wal
 (using this seqNo). Just a random thought. Not tried.

There we return not KeyValue but a
 new Cell impl (here by avoiding the need to copy value bytes) The
 KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue can kill this nice optimization if we come across
 this.
 {code}
 public void preGetOp(final ObserverContextRegionCoprocessorEnvironment e,
   final Get get, final ListCell results) throws IOException {
 // By default we are executing the deprecated preGet to support legacy
 RegionObservers
 // We may use the results coming in and we may return the results going
 out.
 ListKeyValue kvs = new ArrayListKeyValue(results.size());
 for (Cell c : results) {
   kvs.add(KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue(c));
 }
 preGet(e, get, kvs);
 results.clear();
 results.addAll(kvs);
   }
 {code}

[jira] [Updated] (HBASE-11839) TestRegionRebalance is flakey

 [

Sergey Soldatov updated HBASE-11839:

Attachment: HBASE-11839-v1.patch

Quite simple patch. The problem is that average load calculated using both
online and dead servers. An example:
25 regions on 3 region servers with 9, 9, 7 regions correspondingly. 3rd is
going down and its regions randomly copied to other regions, so, for example,
it become as 15,10 and 3rd server which is down is still having 7. Current code
calculated average as (15 + 10 + 7)/3 = 10.6 and this value is used during
computation instead of 12.5 (25 regions and 2 online servers).
Patch uses only online servers during average computation.

Please correct me if I wrong.

 These hooks, dealing with ListKeyValue, were deprecated since 0.96. We have

 The impl in BaseRegionObserver is as below which can be very inefficient
 especially when we read from a DBE files. There we return not KeyValue but a

 KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue can kill this nice optimization if we come across

 When a regionserver reports to master a region transition, we should check
 the current region state to be exactly what we expect.

 export RUNNIN=true; mvn clean install -DskipTests ; while ($RUNNIN) ; do mvn
 test -Dtest=TestRegionRebalancing || RUNNIN=false;done

[jira] [Created] (HBASE-11920) Interface changes needed for creating CP hooks for ReplicationEndPoint

2014-09-09 Thread ramkrishna.s.vasudevan (JIRA)
ramkrishna.s.vasudevan created HBASE-11920:
--

 Summary: Interface changes needed for creating CP hooks for
ReplicationEndPoint
 Key: HBASE-11920
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-11920
 Project: HBase
  Issue Type: Sub-task
Reporter: ramkrishna.s.vasudevan
 Fix For: 2.0.0, 0.98.7, 0.99.1

If we want to create internal replication endpoints other than the one created
thro configuration we may need new hooks. This is something like an internal
scanner that we create during compaction so that the actual compaction scanner
can be used as a delegator.

If I can give a patch by tomorrow will it be possible to include in the RC?
