[Bug 123578] CRASH / freeze when open particular .doc

2013-11-13 Thread bugzilla
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123578

--- Comment #13 from Clarence GUO clarence.guo...@gmail.com ---
I did a simple test about page breaks. Input several lines in a document, for
example,

AAA
BBB
CCC
DDD

then insert a left/right page break after 'AAA', the all content from 'BBB'
will be moved to a new page(2nd or 3rd page according to left or right page
break you inserted. Continuously input 'Enter' key after 'BBB', once every time
'CCC' was moved to a new page, you will find always a blank page will be
inserted first.
So seems when AOO insert left/right page breaks, it will insert a left/right
blank page beside every real page. It is not like the behavior in MS Word. In
Word, insert odd/even page will insert only at largest 1 empty page because in
word insert odd/even page means the following content will be start at a new
odd/even page but will never affect following pages.
I cannot understand AOO's behavior. There's no detailed information on AOO
help. I think Word's behavior is reasonable.
Could anybody teach me why AOO adapt such behavior?

Page Styles and the corresponding behavior is a feature of AOO. Such a feature
is not available in Microsoft Word.
One feature of Page Styles is that you can defined that it only creates
left/right resp. even/odd pages. This is the case for the built-in Page Styles
Left Page and Right Page.
Thus, the behavior you are observing in AOO regarding Page Styles is intended.
It can not be compared to any existing feature in Microsoft Word.

I have found a workaround which goes some way towards satisfying this request.
If one installs extension Annotation_Tool
http://en.ooo-info.org/documentation/annotation_tool.html
Which permits comments to be attached to block selections.
By addition of a few lines of code one can now add such new comments as
originating from a different Author. In my case, I use pseudo Authors, such as
Revision, TimeScale etc. At present, it is the User's responsibility to
remember which pseudo Authors are in use.

Each comment from a different Author is displayed with a differing background
colour. It would however be most useful if Navigator functionality could be
extended to permit display of comments from a particular author, rather than
all authors simultaneously, as at present.

As an aside, it would also be useful if Navigator functionality could be
extended to permit movement of Sections and other structures, as is possible at
present for Chapters.

When AOO is initially opened, and Writer document selected--closing Writer with
Alt-F4 results in error noted. Same if the AOO lauch of writer is done from

I find this defect to be a big headache. I create applications in MS Excel and
I liberally use the alt + enter feature when creating large formulas. The line
feeds provide a lot more readability. Some of my user community like to use OO
Spreadsheet but the apps I send them are rendered useless because all these
long formulas are decapitated to show only the first line.

Confirmed that behavior is as Santiago473 states. However, I cannot change
color or spacing to a configuration that gives me any resizing as previously
mentioned(see below). I agree that this functionality should create a
transparent border. If no border is wanted, there is a different option for
that.

I tested and i can confirm this bug, but if I select any colour for the

to OSX 10.9 on Oct. 26, 2013, I CANNOT USE AOO 4.0.1!

AOO 4.0.1 loads very slow, many top tool bar options are unresponsive, and once
loaded a warning window appears foremost in center screen. The warning window
contents are, “The last time you opened OpenOffice, it unexpectedly quit while
reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again? If you
choose not to reopen windows, you may have to open and position the windows
yourself. At the bottom of the window are two buttons, ”Don't reopen
Reopen.” Neither button produces any response.

The warning window will not disappear or move to the background.
Uninstalling/re-installing AOO 4.0.1 does not affect/correct the problem. AOO
documents cannot exported for access by another software package! (I have huge
amounts of data that are only accessible from screen captures!) Only Force Quit
will quit/close AOO 4.0.1.

The Solaris Studio compiler comes with a dmake binary, so when I want to have
my cc and CC in the path, I have there dmake as well. This causes failure at
the configure stage:
$ ./configure --disable-mozilla --disable-cups --with-system-python

configure: error: please use --with-dmake-path or --with-dmake-url to specify

I would expect that when --with-dmake-url is used, the check for system dmake
would be skipped.

A subset of an MS Excel app using line feeds in formulas

Edwin,
This may be a repeat of an earlier comment - not sure. The attached .xlsx file
contains a fragment of an MS Excel app that uses line feeds to clarify long
formulas. Without the line feeds, parsing the formula makes me both cross eyed
and cross. When this file is opened in OO only the first line of the formulas
are captured and usually is leads to an Err condition. Thanks for your
interest

Your step shows clearly on how to replicate the issue. Moreover, I agree with

I tried to repiclate this bug but the auto scroll worked for me on my version.
The view options did not specify any mouse feautures. It could be a mouse
driver issue. Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver might help.

[Bug 123684] New: Send Document As Email

2013-11-13 Thread bugzilla
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123684

Bug ID: 123684
Issue Type: DEFECT
   Summary: Send Document As Email
   Product: Infrastructure
   Version: current
  Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 8
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: blocker
  Priority: P3
 Component: Mailing lists
  Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
  Reporter: mark.elmor...@gmail.com
CC: issues@openoffice.apache.org

For some reason or another OpenOffice does not recognize the built in Mail
application as a proper email client inside of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. It
gives the cannot find a working email client error. I have verified that the
Mail is a working email client in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. I have also
checked all the file associations that OpenOffice uses to send a document as an
email. Everything is correct and yet this error still persists. I have seen
recommendations saying to install another email client but that is absurd and a
waste of space and system resources when there is already an email client
present on the system. Please fix this!!

Bug was replicated using Mac OS X version 10.9 and Open Office 4.0.1 Build
9714.

The steps necessary to replicate the bug are as follow:
1) Launch Writer from Open Office
2) When the text document appears write the following: Creating words is a
magic tool for success and for imagination
3) Go to Edit-Changes-Record. This turns on the Changes features
4) In the text delete words (Notice how it does not delete, but makes words
with strikethrough).
5) Type right after or before words the following : ideas
6) Now save the document and choose format to be .html
7) Once you save it, close all OpenOffice and look for the HTML document you
just created
8) Right-click on the file and choose Open With-OpenOffice
9) You should see no color for the changes you made, yet you see words and
verses are still there.

Thanks for reporting the bug. I do have one note while doing this is that the
color for changed text was not red yet a gold color. This might be due to the
build version, but the bug is still there. This bug should be fixed.
Thanks for the report.

Hope this helps

Hello,
I’m using Win7, OO 4.0.1.
I found two ways of changing the date format.
1.After inserting the date (Insert - Fields - Date), double click the
appearing date, then you should be able to edit or customize the format.
2.If the first one does not work (sometime it doesn’t work so well),
highlight the appearing date, click on Edit - Fields, then you can edit it,
too.
Hope these help.

I followed the steps of muno0328 and had the same issues as well as others.
After you 'screen dump' an image and drag it up you lose your image and if the
screen size is adjusted the contents in the screen are not adjusted with it.
This would help make using draw easier if it were fixed.

Thank you for your feedback – unfortunately important information we will
need to reproduce your problem is missing.
Please add all information requested in following:
a) Write a meaningful Summary describing exactly what the problem is
b) Attach a sample document (not only screenshot) or refer to an existing
sample document in an other Bug with a link; to attach a file to this
bug report, just click on Add an attachment right on this page.
c) Contribute a document related step by step instruction containing every
key press and every mouse click how to reproduce your problem
d) Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
e) if possible contribute an instruction how to create a sample document
  from the scratch
f) add information
  f1) what EXACTLY is unexpected.
f11) exact wording of error message?
f12) does 'WIN Files Explorer - Rightlick - Send file - As Email' work?

f2) and WHY do you believe it's unexpected, if f12 answer is NO
  f3) concerning your PC
f4) concerning your Operating System (Version, Distribution, Language)
f5) concerning your AOO version (with Build/revision ID if it's not a
public release) and localization (UI language, Locale setting)
f6) AOO settings that might be related to your problems
f7) how you launch AOO and how you opened the sample document
f8) Whether your problem persists when you renamed your user profile
(Quit Quickstart before!) before you launch AOO (please see

http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues)
f9) Whether that worked in former OOO / AOO Versions

Please do not cite these hints in your reply, but cite the items like:
