I've received a copy with 12 chapters that has the correct cover.
Maybe it was a fluke.

There is NO BLANK PAGE in your PDF!!!

There's a page with "ABC Company MS" (page 1). Then there's a page with
a table that has a cell that doesn't fit the first page, so it's
forwarded to the next page (page 2). Then there's a page with the part
of the table that didn't fit page two (page 3).

You can tell the table that it's OK to be split.
Read the book for more info.

Nothing strange about that: go(); internally calls go(false);
In other words: the default parameter of the go() method is false.
You only need to specify a parameter if you want to simulate go(),
or if you EXPLICITLY want to show that no simulation is used.

Ciao Bruno,

Today's MEAP update of your iText in Action, Second Edition draft
(with new chapters 9, 10, 11, and 12) has the wrong title, namely
that of another book entirely "Groovy in Action, Second Edition"

Its document properties show a filename of GroovyinAction,SecondEdition.pdf

THIS IS NOT, I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT AN iText ERROR MESSAGE!!!
Please understand that you don't have to look at iText when
looking for the problem.

You should understand that calling a servlet from a client
IS NOT THE SAME as calling a servlet from the server.

It works for the HTML, because the browser is calling
the servlet through HTTP on the internet/intranet.

That doesn't mean your server permissions allow you to
call the servlet.

This is really not an iText problem.
I'm forwarding this to the mailing list so that others can confirm.
best regards,
Bruno

Hello,

Sorry for not properly explaining the question.When i Stamp the pdf file in
some pdf files my program will manage to put the stamp in some pdf files while
in other pdf file it won't work.I have used simple code like

Rectangle rect = pdfReader.getPageSizeWithRotation(i);

PdfContentByte over = stamp.getOverContent(i);
PdfPTable foot = new PdfPTable(1);

 foot.addCell(new Phrase(new Chunk("Stamp
text",FontFactory.getFont(FontFactory.HELVETICA,10,Font.BOLD, new
Color(0,0,0);
foot.setTotalWidth(145);
foot.writeSelectedRows(0,-1, rect.width()-175,rect.height()-10 ,over);

over.stroke();

can anyone please tell me why this code is work for some pdf files while is not
stamp into the other pdf files.

I have tested with the files created with Adobe acrobat distiller with pdf
version 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x) and
Adobe Pdf library 9.0 with Pdf Version 1.4(Acrobat 5.x) . The pdf files of this
version are not properly opened giving me error like "Expected a dict

Can you give us more information?
For instance in the form of a standalone example.
Maybe the Image is the first object that is added.
Maybe there's no initial leading.
Maybe the margins are large enough.
A lot of maybes, but we can't know anything for sure
based on your limited description.

[iText-questions] Adding html with Image - Image placed on top of header

2010-02-07 Thread dmholte

I am using HTMLWorker.parseToList to add a "note" that consists of html
snippets and an image. My goal is to have the html note look the same as
the PDF Note. If I do not have a header or footer the image is added where
I would expect, but if I have a Header and Footer the image is added on top
of the header. I've tried different things and have been going through the
book, but cannot find what I am doing incorrectly. I suspect is has to do
with how I'm adding the content to the page. I've created a stand a lone
page that is attached with my code.

I open the document
parse the html
add the html
onStartPage I add the report title and call another method that adds the
report header as part of a table.

any help is really appreciated.

You're not looking well enough. I can see row 41, 42, 43.
Row 44-47 are probably there too, but you've cut them off.

ColumnText.go() with parameter true, false, or without parameter,
CONSUMES the content of the column. If the content fits the
rectangle all of the content is consumed.

In your case, the column DIDN'T fit. Only row 41-47 would
have fit on the first page if you didn't work in simulation mode.
Row 48-50 are still in the column AND YOU NEVER REMOVE THAT CONTENT.

On the contrary: you add a new table, and as a result, rows
48-50 are drawn twice!

You need something like column.setText(null); right after you
go to a new page. Please understand that you're using the
mailing list to debug your code. These are NOT genuine iText

My first reaction was: you're asking something that is impossible,
because http://itextpdf.com/faq.php?branch=faq.pdf_in_general&node=pdl

Now I see that you are looking for an N-up tool.
More specifically: a 2-up tool.
That's easy: http://itextpdf.com/examples/index.php?page=example&id=115
It's explained in the first and the second edition of the iText book.

[iText-questions] Multiple pages per sheet

2010-02-07 Thread Patrick Dethioux
Hi,

How can I force a pdf file to have 2 pages of on the same sheet while merging
different pdf file together ?
I have a few pdf files containing "1/2 letter size" pages that I would like to
merge in one single pdf file containing only letter size pages (and therefore
merge 2 original 1/2 letter size pages to one sheet)
Is there an easy way to do so with the addPage method?

Thanks a lot

At this point, it would be common to mention for no particular
purpose that " the source code is available" and you can't
predict when any of the interested users will check-in a fix. LOL.
It sounds like you are just suggesting the code needs a "//"
somewhere- often I get open source stuff and make private hardcoded
modifications that would be of no use to anyone else but if
it is a matter of adding a method that may be easy and reusable.

 I'm using itext to generate a PDF document using a true type font for
 BarCode128. The problem is that the start and stop characters are not
 printed.
 The text is: "‰A)'=_Xwè!-Wè>èè1F0èBÀ~UŠ" It corresponds to the string
 3309072963568700011355003017381600349594 converted to Barcode 128.
 It is a valid string since I see it OK in Word and and browser and any
 several kind of editors.
 Why I cant see it ok the barcode generated using itext?.

 I uploaded the barcode 128 here http://www.usaupload.net/d/5qpza92olsd

 This is the code:

 Rectangle pageSize = new Rectangle(780, 525);
 Document document = new Document(pageSize);

 PdfWriter writer = PdfWriter.GetInstance(document,
 File.OpenWrite("Test.pdf"));
 document.Open();

 PdfContentByte cb = writer.DirectContent;
 BaseFont bf =
 BaseFont.CreateFont(@"C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\bcode128.ttf",
 BaseFont.IDENTITY_H, BaseFont.EMBEDDED);

 cb.SetFontAndSize(bf, 50);
 cb.BeginText();
 cb.ShowTextAligned(Element.ALIGN_CENTER,
 "‰A)'=_Xwè!-Wè>èè1F0èBÀ~UŠ", 200, 400, 0f);
 cb.EndText();
 document.Close();

 Claudia.

Re: [iText-questions] Itext doesn´t work with Barcode1 28 Font

2010-02-07 Thread Paulo Soares
This was already explained before: the font has a flag that says that it's a
symbolic font and symbolic fonts can only have 256 character. iText could
ignore that flag but it would then fail with really symbolic fonts because
symbolic fonts expect a particular encoding. The font may work in Word
because the encoding problems in an interactive application are not as
relevant as in a PDF. This situation may have to be addressed by iText,
after all it already fixes broken fonts and PDFs, but I've no idea if/when
that will happen.
