I have very few problems with Mozilla (I am using 0.9.3), and totally love it. It doesn't crash where Netscape *will* crash! I've only had Mozilla crash when I've forgotten to initialise it by running it as root after installation. Thanks, I'll look forward to testing the sparc-linux JDK 1.3.1 when it's out. I have a lot of java stuff that's guaranteed to cause most JVMs a nasty case of heartburn. ;o) Blackdown 1.3.0 on Sparc and 1.3.0 & 1.3.1 on Intel works fine! I am somewhat concerned by the requirement for glibc 2.2.4 though, as I don't particularly want to have to upgrade from 2.1.3. Why is it necessary, if at all? -- "We all make mistakes.. JIT, JRE, and SDK on Linux
We have been looking into using JIT with our application. I've tried JIT (using j2sdk-1.3.0-FCS-linux-i386 and the classic VM), and our application seems to run faster with it than with the HotSpot VM. I'd like to use JIT, but JIT doesn't seem to be in Blackdown's j2re-1.3.0-FCS-linux-i386. My questions are this: Why isn't JIT used by default in both SDK and JRE? Is there a reason I shouldn't be using JIT? Is there a good way to just use JRE and JIT in a runtime environment? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Blackdown Java for Linux System Requirements
My video card is supported by XFree86 4.1 (Number Nine Motion 771) but I *AM* running a 2.4 kernel (2.4.9) and I've upgraded to glibc-2.2.4. Are you saying that I will have to upgrade my video card in order to get 1.4 support in the future? The minimum requirements for 1.3 are: Kernel 2.2.16, glibc-2.1.3, XFree 3.3.6 (but I would recommend a 2.4 kernel and glibc-2.2.4). Most likely this will apply to the first 1.4 releases too (later 1.4 releases may require glibc-2.2.4 and XFree 4.1). Re: Blackdown Java for Linux System Requirements
Doh! Thanks for asking... I made a typo... XFree86 4.1 does NOT support my #9 video card :) Sorry. It certainly meets them now (for 1.3.x and 1.4beta2) as well. Why would you need to upgrade your video card? :ml > > Peace > > Tom > My DVD Collection > > > > > Juergen Kreileder <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > 08/29/01 07:28 PM > > > To: Martin Schröder <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > cc: "Liste: Java & Linux" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: Blackdown Java for Linux System Requirements > > > Martin Schröder <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > > > 2.4 of the FAQ is a bit old. > > > > What are the requirements for 1.3 and what will be the > > requirements for 1.4? > > The minimum requirements for 1.3 are: Kernel 2.2.16, glibc-2.1.3, > XFree 3.3.6 (but I would recommend a 2.4 kernel and glibc-2.2.4). > Most likely this will apply to the first 1.4 releases too (later 1.4 > releases may require glibc-2.2.4 and XFree 4.1). > > > Juergen > > -- > Juergen Kreileder, Blackdown Java-Linux Team > http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux.html > Run Java 2 SE v1.3.1 on your iPAQ: > http://www.handhelds.org/pipermail/ipaq/2001-June/007221.html > > > -- > To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > with a subject of "unsubscribe".
