[JAWS-Users] Re: new laptop with a few quirks

2007-05-07 Thread Cohn, Jonathan C [IT]
Do you have an external display connected to your computer? My laptop is
connected to an external display that has a higher resolution then
my laptop LCD display, and when I change to the external display I get symptoms
like this unless the pixel settings are set the same on both the External and
Internal displays.

Hi all. For those who read this on the other jaws list, ignore please. I
bought a del inspiron fifteen zero one laptop with two gigs of ram and an
eighty gig hard drive. I don't know the display of my graphics card, sory
meant name of it. Jaws if I close my lid, and ope it will not read the system
tray or other list views like winamp's equalizer. Someone on another list told
me to set the display to the classic theme, but if I do that, wpn't it screw
with how the start menu works, and other things like that? Also when jaws does
do this to me, I find that outlook express is effected and the mail fields
aren't read like two edit bcc edit. Hope someone can make sense of this, and
I'm sorry but right now have no spell check on this yet.
Thanks,
Siobhan

[JAWS-Users] Re: reading attachments in outlook 2003

2007-04-10 Thread Cohn, Jonathan C [IT]

Outlook is not always very easy. If the attachments are in an attachment
header line of the message then what Patti says works. However if you are
reading RTF e-mail's., and the attachment is in the body JAWS 5-7 have a
horrible time. I find two options work best.

1. Use the context menu from the list of e-mail's and then hit 'h' for
attachment.
2. In the File menu when reading the message there is a 'save attachment' item
below the save and save as.

I have also sometimes done the process. When I hear 'blank blank' when
reading by line in Outlook. II move the jaws cursor to the Virtual cursor and
I can usually find the file name. Clicking on the file name and then switching
back to the Virtual cursor and hitting enter will open that attachment. I have
tried all sorts of things to make these attachments more 'visible' I have
A) turned on graphics verbosity to all.
B) changed the cursor settings to let me know when the cursor changes (when it
says unknown it usually means it is over a attachment, but that only works in
JAWS cursor mode and if the cursor is directly over the attachment.)

Best,

Jon

Best of luck,
Jon

[JAWS-Users] Re: Outlook Address Book

2007-02-28 Thread Cohn, Jonathan C [IT]

Another useful Outlook keystroke is alt-k it will complete any incomplete
addresses. Jaws 7+ works quite well with Outlook 2003 in that as soon as one
starts typing an address that has been recently used Outlook will pop-up a list
of possible matches and Jaws 7 / 8 will read that list in the standard PC
cursor. In Jaws 5 I had to move jaws cursor to PC cursor and then do a few
down-arrows and then a right click to select from the list.

Patricia,

Tell your sister that Outlook does this a bit different. When she is
creating a new message and she's in the to field just start typing the
person's name in. She can either type part or all of it. Outlook will
fill it in automatically after she leaves the field. If there is more than
one match in the address book she will be prompted to choose which address
she wants once she goes to send the message. She can confirm what is in the
field by hitting the alt key and the # 3 key on the keyboard not the number
pad. Let me know if you have other questions.

thanks
Al

Hello,

My sister at her job uses Outlook 2000 and after using Outlook Express 6
from home she is having some troubles doing some of the same things in
Outlook and asked me for help, but I use Outlook Express.

She needs to know how to make her address book so that when she goes to send
an email and starts to fill in the persons email address it will
automatically fill it in.

Thanks for any help..

Patricia

[JAWS-Users] Re: Plain Text In Outlook

2007-01-28 Thread Cohn, Jonathan C [IT]

Goto to your options pane (Alt-T O).
In Outlook 2003 you will arrive on a button 'Email Options' hit space.

Now hit 'Alt-E' (Read all messages in plain text format'

Hit enter a couple of times and you should be set.

Now I don't know if you will like this option or not.

Email in Outlook comes in three formats:
1. Plain text
2. HTML
3. RTF

Jaws handles options 1 2 very well but has some problems with RTF also
confusing is that there is another option in another portion of JAWS that
specifies if RTF mail should be read in Outlook or Word. Personally I prefer
when read in Outlook, but I have found some tables lock up JAWS/Outlook with
Outlook using all CPU). And yes I have asked Freedom Scientific about this, but
they were of little help since
1. I am using JAWS 7.1
2. I was able to prevent the lock-up by reading e-mails in RTF using the word
option.

I however have found that I can't distinguish links when using the word option.

Best of luck,

Jon

[JAWS-Users] RTF Mail and Outlook and JAWS 7.1

2007-01-28 Thread Cohn, Jonathan C [IT]
Dear Fellow Jaws Users,

When reading RTF formatted mail in Outlook (using the Outlook 2003 option to
read RTF mail in 'Microsoft Word') format, I can not find / execute any of the
hyperlinks.
JAWS-F7 says Not in spell checker so that is of little help. Any other
advice would be greatly appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Re: How do I turn off the history display in IE 7?

2007-01-05 Thread Cohn, Jonathan C [IT]

I just use Control-H in V6 to toggle the history.

I have no idea if this works for IE7.

In IE 6, this was easy. Once I turned on the history display, all I had to
do was to press ALT+V, arrow to the Explorer Bar submenu, press RIGHT ARROW,
then find History and press ENTER to uncheck it. However, this isn't working
with IE 7 unless I first completely close it down and restart it.
