Is there a jaws command or setting to restore permanently my active desktop?
Could someone also tell me what the active desktop means? Is it the way the
desktop is presented when Windows XP boots up?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 8 and earlier operating systems

2007-08-27 Thread Flor Lynch
Some functionalities change between versions of Windows, and JAWS has to
change in accordance with their most recent iterations. the JAWS update
feature, now present, will not work on an operating system older than
Windows XP. I found that the JAWS Configuration in JAWS7.0, which version
of JAWS did work in Millennium, would not work on my Millennium machine. So
there are technical issues, large or small, between different versions of
JAWS and different operating systems. The highest recommended version of
JAWS for Windows 98 and ME is JAWS7.0. After that, FS stopped producing
specific versions of JAWS for those OS's.

I would think that all jaws will work on any computer no matter how old the

 Hi there,
What version of JAWS does she use? She should
use JAWS 6.0 or higher in order to get full
 Office 2003 support.
 Cheers,

Hi there,
Then the only way that I can think of is
repairing or uninstalling/reinstalling the

2007-08-27 Thread Michael A. Tisdale
Sounds like a corrupted install may have occurred. If it is a legal copy,
and it should be if it is Office 2003 because of the way Microsoft handles
activation now, she may be able to go download it again.

An update: When my father installed the software to her computer, he got an

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Word Problems

2007-08-27 Thread Jeffrey Turner
If she gets in a real bind, she could resort to Wordpad, which is a standard
part of Windows operating systems. Doesn't get her Word problem fixed, but
it could help her get her paper done.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Word Problems

Hello everyone,

I just got a call from my sister who is on her first night at college.
Anyway she told me that tonight Microsoft Word is nonfunctional; she can not
type, click, or do much of anything in Word. I told her to do a system
restore to yesterday to no availe; I think she is using Office 2003 as I
recall, as that is what my father installed on my laptop a few days before
he did hers.

Does anyone know what might be wrong and how I might go about helping her
fix this? My father (Who installed the program) is away for the evening and
she's got a paper to type.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Michael

[JAWS-Users] Microsoft Word Problems

2007-08-27 Thread AMTK161
Hello everyone,

I just got a call from my sister who is on her first night at college. Anyway
she told me that tonight Microsoft Word is nonfunctional; she can not type,
click, or do much of anything in Word. I told her to do a system restore to
yesterday to no availe; I think she is using Office 2003 as I recall, as that
is what my father installed on my laptop a few days before he did hers.

Does anyone know what might be wrong and how I might go about helping her fix
this? My father (Who installed the program) is away for the evening and she's
got a paper to type.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Michael

Hi List,
Just an intro... This is Joseph Lee from Los
Angeles. I've been a user of JAWS for
Windows since 2003 and learned many things
about JAWS and computing in general. I'm
hoping to learn and share my knowledge about
JAWS with other people on this mailing list.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can JFW 7.0 Work with IE 7?

2007-08-27 Thread Flor Lynch
Hi Marilyn,

Security is higher in IE7 than it was in IE6. I'm not familiar with the NYT
email. have you a means of contacting them, to ask? IE7 has been out long
enough now for them to have devised (or thought of devising) a solution or
workaround if the security in IE7 is preventing access to this facility. On
the other hand, the IE7 pop-up blocker may be blocking something, in which
case it is time to bring down the information bar with alt-n. This is more
difficult in IE7 where after alt-n to begin this you may have to route JAWS
to PC and then arrow till you find the option you want, then double-click it
with the left-mouse button to select it.

[JAWS-Users] updates to the programs page

2007-08-27 Thread David Ferrin
I just want to point out that the section on Visual Basic Scripts and Registry
Keys is growing quite nicely folks. I have more files to add up there over time
but there are 14 as of right now. I've also just updated the file on the tips
and Tricks page of computer terms under the MISC heading. Now I'm going to try
and do something else constructive this morning. Can you say coffee break?

I think the below requires clarification. After you've unloaded JAWS you
can use narrator through the first two steps of the installation.
thereafter, if you bring up JAWS again it will take you through the rest of
the installation with no difficulty.

[JAWS-Users] DeskTop Question

2007-08-27 Thread Donnie Parrett
When I go into the Display Page where I can choose items for my desktop
background, I have found
that there have been several pictures that have been added to my choices of
desktop backgrounds.
These are pictures that have been downloaded to our computer, that have some
way ended up in the
desktop background availability section. How can I delete them from the
display page, and also, if
I want to keep some of them, how can I rename them? Thanks for any help on
this subject.
