[JAWS-Users] error message when installing skype

2007-09-28 Thread jason smith
Hi David,
I installed the skype scripts okay. However, when I ran the skype-setup file, I
got the error message this is not a valid win32 application(or something like
that). What can I do about this?
Thanks Jason
P.S when I chose to have the skype scripts recompiled, I was taken back to a
blank screen. Should I have received a Jaws prompt saying compiling completed
or something?

Re: [JAWS-Users] error message when installing skype

2007-09-28 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi, try downloading Skype again. When the Skype scripts are installed you
should land back on the desktop, however since JAWS has focus querks you may
have to do a Windows m to minimize all applications and focus on the
desktop. Hope that helps.

[JAWS-Users] The official write up for JAWS 9 Public Beta is now posted

2007-09-28 Thread Eric Damery
All,

We have posted the What's New write up for the JAWS 9 Public Beta
release. You can find it from a link on the Freedom Scientific Home
page:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/
The link to the write up starts with the word JAWS.

While the write up states that the Public Beta will post next week
sometime, I'm quite confident that it will actually post on Monday,
October 1st. We look forward to your feedback and hope you will take the
opportunity to review the detailed write up in order to prepare
yourselves for the new features and what to look for once you install.
Note that if you are authorized to use JAWS 8, your authorization will
allow you to install and use the Beta of 9.0 as well. You should also
feel confident that installing JAWS 9 public beta should not have any
impact on your ability to continue using JAWS 8.0 or earlier versions
you might have installed on your Vista or XP computers.

Kind Regards,
Eric Damery

2007-09-28 Thread Tony Hernandez
For many web pages written with this kind of combo box, there is no go
button, so the way to get the page to accept your choice once you've found
the item you need is to close the list box again withalt+up arrow. That
will act like a go button where there isn't one.

In addition to the key sequence insert+f4, I understood there was another
key sequence that could be used to shut JAWS down when speech has stopped
completely and JAWS appears to be frozen. Is this true, and if so, what is
 this key sequence?

Would someone please tell me the JAWS command to open a combo box.
It's the command that will allow you to arrow down a combo box without

activating the first down arrow. I thought it was alt down arrow, but

 that doesn't work.

 Thanks for any help.

 Becky

Re: [JAWS-Users] combo box question

2007-09-28 Thread Flor Lynch
They do. But apart from that, there are javascripted combo boxes that don't
conform to the 'standard', in much the same manner that not all forms are
standard (often requiring exiting forms mode or the screenreader equivalent
to get needed information along the way) using JAWS and other screenreaders.
