Re: [JAWS-Users] oops desktop items will not read
Hi, according to Vista, it's similar, except when pressing the applications key, look for view submenu. In fact, I think it's the same in XP as well, as the arrange by submenu simply allows you to re-arrange the desktop icons, whether it's by name, date, etc. Hope that helps. At 18:09 25/12/2007, you wrote: It sounds very much like you or someone using your computer have somehow set desktop properties to show desktop icons off. To check or rectify this in XP , not sure about Vista, you need to; 1. Press Windows key plus D to go to the Desktop. 2. Press Application Key to bring up the desktop context menu. 3. The first option is Arrange Icons - press enter to go to the sub menu. 4. Cursor down until you hear show desktop icons. If Jaws says this is unchecked then this is your problem. 5. Press enter to check this option and hopefully your items will appear. To check that they are really there you can also Press windows key plus E to open Explorer. Press Home to go to Desktop Press Tab once and you should be in a folder view of the Desktop. Let us know if this is the problem. Ah, thanks for correcting me Bryan. I thought the arrange by was a different submenu, but obviously not. Thanks again, and merry Christmas to you and your family. Happy new year to you as well. Arrow down to the choice arrange by and right arrow into the submenu. Arrow down to the choice to show desktop icons. If Jaws does not say that it is checked then press enter and your icons will be back. If you are using Vista do everything the same until you are in the submenu and instead of going into the arrange by menu, arrow down to the View menu and right arrow. Then arrow down to the choice for show desktop icons and make sure it is checked. If JAWS does not say checked for the choice then press enter. Have a very merry Christmas! [JAWS-Users] USB Microphone
I said I would feedback on using the Logitech USB microphone. You may recall I bought this as I found the Realtek Sound card driver was inaccessible and made installing a normal microphone impossible. Basically the microphone is good but limited in one important sense. It is impossible to monitor your recording. So for example if you wanted to do a Jaws tutorial you could not record Jaws and the microphone at the same time. This can be achieved simply with a normal microphone by simply un muting it in sound properties and recording the output from your sound card. Sadly this appears impossible with this USB Microphone and looking through Google, many other USB microphone users have struggled with the same problem, I have read many threads now and nobody has come up with a simple method of enabling monitoring of USB microphone recording. Even when specialist software is purchased problems have been reported. The lesson is if you want to hear yourself through your computer sound card whilst you are recording do not use this microphone. This may be a general limitation of other USB microphones as searching through Google appears to indicate this is a very common problem. By the way altering sound properties in Control Panel to select the Microphone as the default recording device and making sure that the capture is un muted makes absolutely no difference. [JAWS-Users] Trend Micro PC-Cillin question
Using JAWS 6.2 and PC cillin 2006, can someone direct me where I can find the list of programs that I am allowing access to my system. I ask this because recently I accidentally allowed something leaving my system without checking it closely. Thanks very much! Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS does not read ...
Hi Brian, Thanks for your response; insert 2 changes typing mode which I usually set to none. I should have made my question more clear so let me try again: when I am in save or find dialogue boxes, I cannot read characters with right or left arrows, but can read the full word with insert up arrow. this did not happen with earlier versions of Jaws. I do not want to hear characters when I type, but want to read characters with right and left arrows for editing purposes. Someone suggested checking the language settings, but it is set to English U.S. This happens only in MS Word, not in IE, Eudora or Adobe Acrobat. Any ideas anyone? Hello All I have JAWS 8 and for some reason when I am in save or find dialogues, Jaws reads the entire word I type but not character by character, which makes it difficult to make corrections. I went to the verbosity dialogue and turned different options on and off but nothing worked. I tried the configuration manager as well and without success. Any idea what the cause may be? I have also checked the regional and language settings in the control panel and made sure everything is set to English U.S. Anything else I can try?
