Re: [JAWS-Users] quick time

2008-03-27 Thread Carlene Knight
Hi:

Quick time is a Flash player that's associated with ITunes. Though ITunes isn't
jaws friendly, quick time is ok. I have used it for a website that needed it.
Do you have ITunes? If you do, then you will just need to pull up Quick Time
from your programs menu though it probably would have loaded it automatically if
you had it... You may have to do a search for it.

[JAWS-Users] realspeak

2008-03-27 Thread Carlene Knight
Hi:

I'm about to give up on ever having anything but Eloquence, but if I can get
things to work out, where is a good place to get realspeak voices? I stupidly
assumed that the software came with some. I did an installation repair, and the
disk said it was for Sapi4 and not 5. This is the last time I'm going to bother
anybody about this stupid issue. Thanks to all who have put up with me.

Hi, I have a realtek card and had a similar problem. It picked up my
 knock
(when banging the mic on the deks to see if it could pick up anything)
 but
not my talk! ok, bad joke. Anyway, go to the system tray by pressing
 jaws
key f11 and select realtek hd audio manager. you will get a context
 menu,
select sound manager. Press shift tab several times and you should get
 a
list of tabs. Select your microphone (it may have graphics in front of
 the
text) and press tab several times until you get to recording volume.
 the
first slider is a balance slider, make sure it is set to 50% and hit
 tab.
Set this slider to 100 and hit tab again. you should get a mic boost
 button,
press enter and you will get a slider. Again make sure it's at 100 and
 hit
enter. You may now close the sound manager. If the sound manager isn't
 in
your system tray, you can also find it in control panel.

Ah. What about the microphone format? In the sound manager go to your
microphone tab, then tab until you get to the microphone effects tab. Now
press right arrow and you should hear default format tab. Try one of the
formats there. My last idea.

[JAWS-Users] sappi 5

2008-03-27 Thread Carlene Knight
Hi again:

I would have used the original messages, but they got lost in the pipe
somewhere. Anyway, I did as was suggested, and then restarted JAWS as
instructed. There are no voices to choose from and I can't even arrow up and
down the list of voices in the individual voices submenu because there aren't
any. When I go to person, it says one of one, and indeed, that's all there are.
Maybe I will have to reinstall Realspeak. Thanks for all of the advice.

[JAWS-Users] Easy CD-DA Extractor Professional Version

2008-03-27 Thread Lennie Rinaldi
Hi Everyone,

I am currently using version 11 of Easy CD-DA Extractor Basic
version. I was told by the developer that the basic version will no
longer be available after the next update.

Does anyone use the professional version and is it accessible with
Jaws? Right now, I can use the basic version with Jaws and some Jaws
curser, but the PC curser still works fine for the most part.

The upgrage to the professional version is not free. It costs 10 EUR
for registered users and more if I don't take advantage of the
current offer soon. I have no idea what its cost is in dollars.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Lennie

Re: [JAWS-Users] microphone query

2008-03-27 Thread David Griffith
Sorry I did not read all of the thread. I had Vista and Office 2007 removed
from my PC when I bought it as I had heard nothing good about vista. I am
very happy with XP pro and Office 2003 which do everything I need quickly
without any problems. Jaws 8 is very stable in this environment. I do not
have the time to grapple with so called progress, especially in Office 2007.
Sorry to sound a luddite.

Someone who has waded through Vista will have to help you.

Hi,

Is anyone aware of a software program, preferably that comes with a
cassette deck, to convert cassette tapes to MP3 files that works well
with JAWS?

I have tapes dating to the early 70's and would love to convert them to
MP3.

Re: [JAWS-Users] microphone query

2008-03-27 Thread David Griffith
In XP go to Sounds and Audio in Control |Panel.
Then go to Audio tab.
Click on sound playback volume button.
Then select the options menu from the mixer display that comes up
u
Under the options menu select properties..
Tab down until you hear the list of devices to be displayed.
Cursor down until you hear microphone.
Press the space bar to check this as a device to be displayed in the mixer.
OK out of this.
Now when you go to the mixer display you should be able to tab to a
microphone up down volume slider and a check box should be there to mute
or unute the microphone.
This advice applies to microphones plugged directly into the sound card
only. Sadly none of this will work with a USB microphone and this is much
harder to control. If you are lucky you may find a USB device that responds
to settings made in the capture device section of audio properties. not all
do however and you may be reliant on 3rd party software to unlock features.

Regards

David Griffith

Re: [JAWS-Users] sapi 5

2008-03-27 Thread David Griffith
Well there is a limited amount to go on as you have not said what you have
tried so far. All I can do is restate the procedure so that you can check to
see if this is what you are doing.

the steps to follow in Jaws

1. Go to the Language menu in Jaws.
2. Select change synthesizer
3. Select SAPI 5

A quicker way of doing the same thing is to hold down the Insert plus
control plus S key and then select SAPI 5 from the list of synthesizers that
come up.

Now in Jaws again go to Options and then go into the global and individual
dialogue boxes. In these dialogue boxes there is an option to select the
person. Press the down arrow on this box and you should be able to select
any of the SAPI 5 voices that you have installed on your PC.

Depending on the speed of your PC there may be quite a delay before you hear
the voice change as you move down this list. Patience is the watch word
here. A sighted person will see the voice person change but there may be a
delay as Jaws loads the synthesizer voice you selected. Occasionally I have
known some SAPI 5 voices refuse to load in Jaws. This should not happen with
the Real Speak voices however. If there is a voice that does not load you
may have to continue to cursor down until you find a voice you can load and
hear. If you are having problems here press S and you should land on the
Scansoft .voices. Repeatedly pressing S should cycle you through all the
Real Speak voices.

The final thing to consider is that not all SAPI 5 voices are of high
quality. The Microsoft version of the SAPI 5 Mary is an example and you may
have landed on this voice by mistake.

Regards

David Griffith

Hi:

It seems like everything I try to do with computers fails. I just
installed
Realspeak, and can only find one voice which, by the way, I am not too
impressed with. What am I doing wrong?

Try changing the language in the jaws language menu, under synthesizer
language.

Re: [JAWS-Users] cassette to MP3 software/cassette deck

2008-03-27 Thread Estelita
Hi,
There is a USB Cassette Deck that will allow you to do the job.
If you are here in England UK, you can find its information at:
www.firebox.com
or you might find information where to find in US in case you reside there.
They provide 30 days trial in case you don't like it, but haven't got chance
to try it yet, so if you decide, let me know how it works.
Cheers,

Estelita

Yes, that would be interesting to find out.
If there are such programs out there, does anyone also know if any tutorials
exist to use the software? if it exists that is.
