Hi, to remove anything from the start menu, all programmes/programmes
submenu, press the applications key to open the context menu, press d
for delete, and, when prompted to send it to the recycle bin, press y.
Hope that helps.

How can I get it off?

Is there a way or reason to remove them from this list?

 Hi Christopher,
What version of jaws are you using? if you are using 8 and 9, and possibly
7, the driver is already installed.
Once you have made sure your brailleNote is connected to your computer, do
 the following:
 1. go to the jaws window.
 2. once you are focused on it, press alt U to get into the utilities menu.
 3. press B for the speech synthesizer and braille manager.
 4. A dialogue box should come up and jaws should say speech synthesizers
 closed.
 5. press the right arrow to open the list of speech synthesizers.
 6. arrow down until you hear keynote gold SA or brailleNote.
 7. Tab to the add, remove or change devices button and press enter.
 8. When you have done this, jaws will say: select the device type you want
 to add, change, or remove.
 9. there are 2 radio buttons. make sure the speech synthesizers radio
 button
 is checked.
 10. if it is unchecked, press space to check it.
 11. tab until you hear jaws say next button and press enter.
 12. you arenow in a list of speech synthesizers. arrow down until you
 hear:
 Keynote gold SA or BrailleNote.
 13. make sure that option is checked.
 14. Tab until you hear jaws say next button and press enter.
 15. Jaws now asks you to select the synthesizer you will use each time you
 start the program.
 16. Arrow down until you hear: keynote gold SA or brailleNote.
 17. Tab to the finish button and press enter.
 18. A message will come up telling you must restart jaws for the changes
 to
 take effect.
 19. quit jaws by pressing alt F4
 20. Restart jaws by going into the run dialogue box and typing jaws
 followed
by what ever version number you have without spaces.

You should now hear the keynote gold voice saying what is on your computer
 screen.
Hope this helps and good luck. I appologize in advance if any of my
 instructions are unclear.

Hi, try pressing shift control number 8 on the numbers row. This will toggle
between showing all, including hidden, characters, which you've probably
have turned on, so if you press the said keystroke it will turn it off and
vice versa. Hope that helps.

 Hello,

A program called T-Timer is installed with Spybot Search and Destroy. You
can do the following to stop processes from starting with Windows XP.

 1. Press Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box, type in
MSCONFIG and press the enter key.
 2. Press the shift key with the tab key to move back to where the page
tabs
are located, then press the end key to move to the Start Up page tab.
 3. Use the tab key to move into a list of programs or processes that
start
 with Windows XP.
 4. Use the down arrow key to move down the list and uncheck any items
that
have to do with T-Timer or Spybot. Use the spacebar to uncheck the items.
 5. When items related to Spybot and T-Timer have been unchecked then tab
to
the apply button and press spacebar.
 6. Use tab key to move to the close button and press enter. You will be
asked to restart your computer and you can choose to restart right away or
 to restart later.

If you want the references to these programs removed from the
configuration
utility, you can remove them from the Windows registry. Keep in mind that
you need to be extremely careful performing any tasks in the Windows
registry as you do not get a choice to undo or cancel your changes once
you
make them. If you want to back up the registry first and you need help
doing it, then feel free to send me an Email at my Email address shown at
 the bottom of this message.

If you want to remove the T-Timer and Spybot entries from the run sections
of the registry then do the following:

 1. Use Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box.
 2. Type in regedit and press the enter key.
 3. Focus will be in a tree view in the registry. If you are on the My
computer choice then use right arrow to expand the level. JAWS should
tell
you that My computer is open.
 4. use down arrow to move to the registry hive called HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
Use the right arrow key to expand the level.
 5. Press the letter S until you hear software and use right arrow to
 expand the level.
 6. Press the letter M until you hear the choice for Microsoft and use
right arrow to open the level.
 7. Press W until you hear the choice for Windows and use right arrow to
 open the level.
 8. Press the letter C until you hear the choice for current version and
then use right arrow to expand the choice.
 9. Press the letter R until you hear the run choice and then use the
tab
key to move into the list view for run.
 10. Use up and down arrow keys to find any entries for Spybot or T-Timer
and use the delete key to delete those entries. Answer yes if a
confirmation box appears asking you if you are sure.
 11. Press shift key with tab to move back to the tree view and use down
arrow to move to the next choice. If there is a choice for run once or
run X then use tab to move from those choices into the list and delete
any
entries for T-Timer or Spybot. Use shift with tab to move from the list
view to the tree view and continue using down arrow to see if there are
any
more run choices. Items are listed alphabetically in the tree view so
if
you come to an entry that starts with S or another entry starting with R
that is not a run entry, then start using left arrow in the tree view
until you get back to the point where the My computer choice is open.
 12. When back to the my computer choice use the down arrow key to move
to
 the following hive:
 HKEY_local_machine.
 13. Expand the hive by using the right arrow key and press S until you
hear
the choice for software. Use right arrow to expand the level.
 14. Use the letter M until you hear the choice for Microsoft and then use
right arrow to expand the level.
 15. Press W until you hear Windows and use right arrow to expand the
level.
 16. Use C until you hear the choice for current version and use right
 arrow to expand the level.
 17. Press R until you hear the choice for run and then use tab key to
 move into the list view.
 18. Use up and down arrow keys to move to any choices for Spybot or
T-Timer
and delete the entries. Answer that you are sure if a confirmation box
 appears.
 19. Use shift with tab to move back to the tree view and use down arrow
key
to move to any choices for run, such as run once or run x. Use tab key to
move into the list for any run choices and use up and down arrow to find
choices for Spybot or for T-Timer and delete them. Again, answer yes to
any
confirmation boxes that ask you if you are sure. The choices in the tree
view are alphabetical so if you come to a choice that begins with the
letter
S or another letter later in the alphabet than R, or if you come to a
choice
that starts with R but it is not a run related choice then you can start
collapsing the tree back to where it says My Computer. Do it

[JAWS-Users] Question about where do drivers go after you download them.

2008-04-03 Thread cutolo.albert
Good afternoon everyone,

Where, and in what folder do drivers go after you download them and install
them. Fore example, let's say, that I go too the eppson webb site, and find
the latest drivers for my eppson perfection 41-80 scanner,do they
automatically go into the Kurzweil folder where the drivers are stored, or
after you find them and download them, do you have too copy andpastethem
into the drivers folder that are on the c drive, where all drivers that are
on the computer are loacated. Same question applies, if your using openbook
. I've neverdone anything like this before, so that's why I'm asking,
because I want too learn the correct procedure.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws is reading a strange window

2008-04-03 Thread Waqas Hussain
Hi all,

I am confronting a strange problem with my new HP XW4400 work station Intel
core 2 duo 2.4 GHZ processor, 2 gig RAM, ATI Fire GL 3350V 256 MB graphic
card with Vista Business) and running Jaws 9.0552 pro.

The machine keeps minimising the windows every now and then and the problem
is not application specific. When I press Insert plus F10 to bring up the
list of running applications, the first available application Jaws read is
as follows:
AMD:CCC-AEMCapturing window restored

When I hit enter to bring it up nothing comes up nor can my Secretary who
has a 20 by 20 vision can visually see anything happening on the screen. I
am really baffled and wonder if this is causing the aforementioned issue?
Any suggestions to fix this shall be greatly appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about where do drivers go after you downloadthem.

2008-04-03 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Albert,

Once you install the drivers, they will land on the directory responsible
for the product you installed it for.

For example, if you installed the drivers for Epson, they will go into the
Epson folder in your C or local disk drive.

Once that's done, in most cases, with third party software, you must
configure it to recognize the new drivers in that application's options or
settings for the device you wish to configure to work with that application.

In the case of Kurzweil or Open Book, and assuming that you've installed a
new driver for your Epson Scanner, once the driver is installed, you would
go into those programs, Kurzweil and Open Book, and go into the scanner
configuration dialog boxes and choose the scanner drivers you just
installed.

In those two cases, however, you should be choosing the TWAIN drivers to be
recognized.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws is reading a strange window

2008-04-03 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Hussein,

Have you noticed any applications in your start menu, or system tray that
sounds similar to what the open window is called?

If you do, check out the program's options, and also check the MSCONFIG file
to see if there are any programs that sound similar to the program giving
you the problem.

If you see this program, try unchecking it from start up, and see if that
fixes the problem.

There are two things to make sure of before doing this.

First, try doing a Google search for such a program, and see if it details
what the program is, and if there's a current fix for it, or if others are
facing the same types of problems you are.

Obviously, sending out for help on this list is a very good first step.
Smile.

Secondly, if you are going to uncheck an item from start up, make sure you
create a restore point so you can role your system back should things go
wrong, especially since you're working without sight.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet explorer.

2008-04-03 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Sue,

Have you found out if Microsoft has a fix for this?

You can do this if a dialog box pops up after you send the error report and
click the close button.

In most cases, there will be a dialog box which pops up afterward telling
that for more information, click the link below, which usually tends to be a
button labelled more details.

Entering on this button will take you to the Microsoft Error Reporting site,
which will sometimes give you fixes for such problems.

Let us know if that's the case.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Internet explorer.

 Hi.

I'm using internet explorer 7 with Jaws 9. I use the Tesco website a lot
but I've been having problems over the past few days. When I log in to my
account, Jaws stops speaking for a few seconds and then I get a message
telling me that this program is not responding and I have to press end
task or cancel. Windows then creates an error report which I can send or
not send. I'm not sure why this is happening to me all of a sudden. I've
done a defrag today and a disc clean up thinking that might make a
 difference but it hasn't.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can solve this problem as I
want to add some items to my shop which is being delivered tomorrow.

 Thanks.

 Sue.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws is reading a strange window

2008-04-03 Thread Waqas Hussain
Hi Victor,

Thanks for your timely tip -its amazing how one can miss simple solutions
Googling revealed that it was the ATI Catalyst manager which is associated
with my ATI Fire GL 3350 graphic card so, a simple uninstall of Catalyst
manager and the installation of the auto sizer programme from our
moderators' server has done the trick. Once again, thanks for pointing me in
the right direction.

[JAWS-Users] Interesting Demonstration on Window's Vista Narrator

2008-04-03 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Folks,

The below was gleaned from this week's top tech tidbits newsletter that I
receive every week.

Essentially it tells of an upcoming demonstration on Windows Vista's Narrator
and how it functions with today's major screen readers, those being Jaws,
Window Eyes and System Access To Go.

***Begin Article***

Mine will be the primary voice you will hear on Tek Talk on GMT Tuesday, 8
April at 00:00. We will discuss Windows Vista Speech Recognition: Microsoft's
Half-buried Treasure. There will be something here for users of all the major
screen readers, as I will discuss and demonstrate the pros and cons of using
Speech Recognition with JAWS, Window-Eyes, and System Access. As always, the
two-hour program will consist of a presentation/demonstration with plenty of
time for questions and discussion afterwards.
