[JAWS-Users] jaws not reading edit fields in emails

2008-05-28 Thread Andrew Head
Hi all,
I upgraded to the latest version of jaws a few days ago. Today, as I am
checking emails and replying, jaws does not read the too, cc, bccc, and
subject fields. As I tab through, jaws says edit and some gabbled message.
If someone can tell me how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.
hopefully this message even gets to the list because jaws won't read that I
am sending it to jaws-users.

arrow down through the list of names in my address book when I'm in OE?

PC Magazine recently reviewed both programs.

Here is their review of Avast 4.8:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2282699,00.asp

and their review of AVG 8.0:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2291382,00.asp

I personally do not use either, since I just bought a Dell laptop, which
came with 3 years of Trend Micro PC - Cillin. I will have to upgrade the
AVG 7.5 on my kids computer to one of those soon though.

In this email you say that Avast isn't rated that well. What web site can I
go to so I can check the ratings of some of these anti virus programs?

In my oppinion you can't expect any free version to be as good as the paid
version. Avast isn't rated that well even though the free version might
have
more features than free AVG. That's just something to consider. I'm not
trying
to start an arguement about which is better though.

write a e mail jaws fills in the info for me also if I hit control alt b I

2008-05-28 Thread Maria Chapman
Hi I don't know how to stop it saying x western, but to be able to read
the text in a reply try turning the virtual cursor off. you should then
be able to review your message.

Make sure you turn it back on when you're done though.

hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook Express address book question

2008-05-28 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Mich,

Try this.
1. Open address with control, shift, plus b while in OE.
2. Tab 2 times and make sure that Main Identities Contacts is checked and
not Shared Contacts. If Shared Contacts is checked arrow down 1 time to
Main Identities Contacts and that should fix the problem.

Here is what I did.
Here is how you just have the name only in your address book.
1 open up the address book
2 alt V
3 arrow down to list
4 press enter
if you want the email address back
press enter on details

I am using win amp version 2.3 or whatever is on the jaws users page, not the

off and reloaded the 2 something version. Now everytime it goes to play a
song, or file, it says the following thing, a lot, it repeats it until I hit
the control key. Then when the next song starts it does it all over again.
Then during a song it may or may not pop up and yell it at me. Here is what
it says, only part of it, I can't figure out what it is saying in the middle of

Re: [JAWS-Users] Making Avast More Accessible

2008-05-28 Thread Roger Bachelder
Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting this information. I just un installed AVG 7 point 5, and
installed Avast 4 point 8. I did like you said and everything is working
great! There was only one thing that was not accessible though. When your
ask to type in the 3 digit code, I was unable to find it. But once I was
able to get a pair of eyes in the room and get the 3 digit code, things went
smoothly.

Again, thanks for the posting.

Take care,

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Making Avast More Accessible

Hi all, please accept my apologies for the duplicate posts, however I feel
that the more people that get the below instructions, the better. So here we

go.

Hi all, do the following two things to make Avast more accessible.
Configuring Avast to not use the skins for the simple user interface:
1. Start Avast.
2. Wait for the memory test to be completed, then close the web page that
appears. You should now land on a dummy check box.
3. Press the applications key to open a context menu, down arrow to settings

and press enter. The Programme Settings dialogue box appears, with the
categories tree gaining focus.
4. Tab until you hear, "enable skins for simple user interface check box
checked". Press space to uncheck it.
5. Tab to ok and press enter. You'll land back on the dummy check box.
6. Close and restart Avast. You should now be able to tab through the
controls in this programme.
Configuring JAWS to read lists in Avast:
1. Make sure that you're focused on the Avast Simple User Interface.
2. Press JAWS key 6 to open Configuration Manager.
3. Press enter to accept the New Configuration File dialogue box.
4. Press alt s to open the set options menu, then press a. The advanced
Options dialogue box appears.
5. Shift tab till you hear, "Rely on MSAA for List Views check box not
checked". Press space to check it.
6. Press enter to activate the ok button.
7. Either press control s to save your configuration file immediately, or
press alt F4, pressing enter to activate the yes button on the confirm
dialogue box.
By doing these steps, you'll resolve an issue on some machines whereby JAWS
stops speaking when focused on any of the lists in Avast.

Re: [JAWS-Users] win amp question

2008-05-28 Thread David Griffith
You could reinstall WinAmp to remove the error message I guess but this will
not prevent Jaws interrupting music for other reasons. If WinAmp continues
to work despite the error message then perhaps you could use another
approach.

You could set up a mute key in Jaws.
I personally use Control plus shift plus M for this but you can designate
your own key shortcut.

Hitting your mute key shortcut will prevent Jaws talking in until you hit
the shortcut key again. I use this a lot with my computer MP3 players to
prevent Jaws talking through music or radio shows.

I believe from memory instructions on setting up a mute key shortcut in Jaws
is on the Tips and Tricks page and it is very straightforward , but I have
not checked recently to see if this is still there.

If you cannot find this and you need help let us know and I will post
instructions.

A final approach is to set the Jaws configuration for WinAmp to silent mode
but this is not really advisable as you will not be able to access WinAmp
info like time remaining etc. I think it is better to use the mute function
which can be switched on and off.

David Griffith

[JAWS-Users] Stuck in Emails

2008-05-28 Thread Mark
Hi
I am running the latest version of JAWS for windows on a vista laptop.
I use Windows Mail for my E-Mail program. When I finish writing an E-Mail I
run a spell check and then reread the E-Mail. The problem is that after
running the spell check for some reason I am stuck on the first line of the
E-Mail. How do I go about reading the rest of the message?
 I appreciate any ideas.

God bless,

[JAWS-Users] PC Anywhere 11.5

2008-05-28 Thread David Griffith
I have seen on EBay a fairly cheap copy of PC Anywhere 11.5

As this is a Symantec product I am nervous about Accessibility.

The only trial I can find is for the expensive version 12.

Does anybody know if PC Anywhere 11.5 can be accessed with Jaws? I am
currently using Jaws 8.

[JAWS-Users] AVG 8 and JAWS Solution

2008-05-28 Thread amtk161
Hello everyone,

Below is a solution to the JAWS-AVG 8.0 problem that many of us have been
experiencing. Here is how the events unfolded:
I talked to someone at FS this afternoon regarding my continued problems
with AVG 8.0 and JAWS. I was told to download a fresh copy of the JAWS
9.0.2169 file directly from the website; the man I talked to said that my
update probably did not complete propperly. He instructed me to save the
file to the desktop and then run it and go to repair instalation. We got
confirmation that my update had not downloaded propperly when I was unable
to proceed with the install wizard because another version of JAWS was
already installed. The man directed me to uninstall JAWS and install JAWS
9.0.2169. I no longer have problems with JAWS and AVG.

One thing to note is that regardless of whether you are able to repair the
existing instalation of JAWS or you have to reinstall like I did, you must
remove/overwrite all existing user settings.

I hope this helps someone,
Michael

Re: [JAWS-Users] PC Anywhere 11.5

2008-05-28 Thread Rick Justice
Hi David,
Even if it is accessible with Jaws, I believe that it may use the Citrix
terminal service, and that will require you to have the following:
Jaws Pro license
Remote access license for Jaws.
I don't rememver whether the host machine must be running Windows XP Pro, or
not.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] PC Anywhere 11.5

I have seen on EBay a fairly cheap copy of PC Anywhere 11.5

As this is a Symantec product I am nervous about Accessibility.

The only trial I can find is for the expensive version 12.

Does anybody know if PC Anywhere 11.5 can be accessed with Jaws? I am
currently using Jaws 8.

Regards

David Griffith
