Re: [JAWS-Users] beware of the latest adobe reader!!!

2008-07-04 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Derek,
You should be able to find a good version of the Adobe reader on the list
website.
Here's a hot tip:
If you are only using the reader, then there is really no need to update,
especially if you aren't having any problems.
In the case of most software, this is a good reason not to enable any
automatic updating.

So like I updated to the latest Adobe reader a few days ago at the prompt of
the adobe updater, and for whatever reason it just decided to start out of
nowhere and say "this version does not contain support for screen readers!"
gur'r'rh'rhr'hrrnrllrlrlrrbrlrbrlrblrblbr! I want my old adobe reader
back! :@ So, if you get asked to update to I think it's reader 8.0.1 (which
may have been out for a while, not sure) don't!

This does seem somewhat jaws related to me, it greatly effects reading pdf's
with jaws. If I'm wrong on this, sorry. Going to smash something, thanks!

[JAWS-Users] VLC Media Player

2008-07-04 Thread Erin B. Edgar
Hi, all,
I'm trying to use this player, and it looks excellent. However, I cannot find
a list of hot keys. I go into the preferences menu and try to pull up the
dialog that I think reassigns hot keys, but it looks very unwieldy and clunky.
If I use my JAWS cursor to navigate around in it, seems very slow and complex.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Erin

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS & Fire Fox

2008-07-04 Thread Flor Lynch
Some of these problems being experienced are, unfortunately, down to JAWS.
In the case of Firefox 3, we can point to how it is so recent that we
haven't had a JAWS update since its release as a full version. (Now it is
possible, David, that if you tried - if you haven't yet done so - the
WebVisum add-on [ www.webvisum.com ] - that you might gain some small relief
from the problems.)

I guess every computer is different. I have not experienced most of the
problems you are, but one thing I have noticed with the new version is that
when
you load a web page it automatically finds the form field and turns forms
mode
on. I don't always want to be in the edit field but I hit the PC cursor and
it
goes off and then all is well. I notice that some of the pages that
couldn't be
read by Firefox very well can be now. I just wish that I could read the
artist
performing on the XM player with Firefox like I can with IE, but I am still
going to use Firefox as my default browser and IE secondary..

2008-07-04 Thread Erin B. Edgar
Hi,
I'll admit that Firefox isn't good for everything. For example I find that
it works with my blogging software (WordPress) but that IE is easier to use
for editing my blog. I haven't had a problem with form fields in Firefox
but have noticed that it tends to crash more than IE. Still, I like the
speed and more efficient use of memory enough to use it most of the time.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS & Fire Fox

2008-07-04 Thread David Griffith
I have tonight updated to FireFox 3 and I regret to report that all of the
instabilities I reported in Version 2 remain unaddressed in Version 3.
These problems include the management of form fields and accessing either
my savings or bank account remains impossible using FireFox 3 so I will have
to use the slower but more reliable IE for these tasks.

Regards

David Griffith.

will have been resolved by now. Hope this helps.

I downloaded FireFox about 6 months ago and my feedback is quite mixed.

My own experience is that FireFox is definitely faster than IE but does not
work as well with Jaws. These can be minor but annoying things. I have
encountered the following problems.

1. I often need to refresh the screen with insert escape for Jaws to pick up
the headings links in a Google search page. This behaviour is never
replicated in IE7

2, FireFox with Jaws does not, for some reason, read all edit box labels .
On one of my savings accounts it is impossible to log in as the edit boxes
will not be read. Closing Firefox Switching to IE will cause the problem to
disappear.

3. Firefox is extremely unstable with the Form Field list feature in Jaws.
Often it will not pick up the Insert key press with F5 and will simply
interpret this as a request to refresh the page through a single F5 push.
This sporadic problem becomes permeate on a page once you have made one use
of insert plus F5 to get a form field list. Firefox will never allow you to
return to the Forms Field list once you have used it once and will simply
refresh the page. This has made it impossible for me to use FireFox to enter
another bank account where for some reason Form Fields are read out of order
in an almost random fashion.

So in the end I use FireFox on an old laptop as it is definitely faster
than IE but use IE for anything to do that requires serious use of data
input.

Sorry. Also I haven't seen quicktime on my new pc, and had AVG 7.5 on it for

 Hi Max,

This could be part of QuickTime's installation.

As you may or may not know, QuickTime is a MAC product, however it is
 used
 on PC's.

Do you have this software installed?

If so, this may answer your question as to why it's there.

Re: [JAWS-Users] QuickTime [was] Re: AVG Update.

2008-07-04 Thread Derek Roberts
Hmm. On mine the player was just a blank screen and none of the keyboard
shortcuts would work. For a couple days it actually worked great, then went
back to that.
I never did anything to it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and access bridge

2008-07-04 Thread Derek Roberts
Hi,

Mine does something sort of similar, after alt tabbing away from a java app,
when i come back jaws seems one control behind and if I shift tab then tab
again it usually fixes it, for maybe two controls... I don't like the bridge
very much, or maybe it's a jaws thing?

You can freely update to JAWS7.10, and that will improve the experience for

easier in IE. there are some exciting add-ons to Firefox, though, which may
make people's lives on the internet easier.

I am taking Fire Fox for a test drive. So far I have found that my JAWS
Find Command (control plus
the letter F) does not work. I am using JAWS 7.0. Can someone please tell
me how to fix this
problem? Also, what is your opinion of Fire Fox verses IE? Thanks for any
feedback that I can get

that'll be JAWS and 8 in the number row, not JAWS and 7 - which is a Window

Well, it's firefox 3, so they wanted you to run the setup 3 times. lol! Also
if you want control f back, press jaws key 7 (on the number row) and in the
second list view, look for jaws find, press control a, then control f and
hit enter.

Create a hot key shortcut for it, and call it up that way. You can have the

Hi Derek,

I just downloaded FireFox 3.0 and in the setup I did not choose for FireFox
to be the default browser. How do I turn FireFox on at random when wanting
to use it on particular websites? In I.E. options I do have the box checked
to let me know if I.E. 7 is not my default browser. I guess what I am
asking is how do I switch from one browser to the other on the fly? All
advice, direction, & information will be greatly appreciated & warmly
received. Thank you all very much for your help.

But you can change it back, in these programs options dialogs. Also if the
the option to check if IE is your default browser is turned on, every time
you start IE, it will say internet explorer is not your default browser and
give you the option to change it.

Hi, System Access is a screen reader produced by Serotek (spelling), the
provider of the System Access Mobile Network, used to be called the
FreedomBox Network, however due to a lawsuit they were forced to change the
name. Hope that helps.

Well, hi all.
My boyfriend has a laptop in which I can access Windows Media Center but
using a remote that came with the media center.
I don't know if Jaws is that accessible. But if you use System Access, it
works much better.

Well, hi all.
My boyfriend has a laptop in which I can access Windows Media Center but
using a remote that came with the media center.
I don't know if Jaws is that accessible. But if you use System Access, it
works much better.

Hi
I have not been able to access the windows media center but I am
interested in finding a way to access it also. Perhaps there are others with
more information.

God bless,

Hi, Insert 7 brings up the Window Classes Reassign dialogue box. I think you
mean Insert 8, which will open up Keyboard Manager. Hope that helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS & Fire Fox

2008-07-04 Thread Derek Roberts
Hi,

I've had problem one some, but I don't use the forms list so not sure about
3. For 2, it's the way firefox formats everything. Like, in IE, if you go to
a pages navigation links, you may notice a blank line between each link. in
firefox, pressing down arrow reads you the next link, without saying
"blank." So this is a firefox thing.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS & Fire Fox

2008-07-04 Thread Derek Roberts
Well, it's firefox 3, so they wanted you to run the setup 3 times. lol! Also
if you want control f back, press jaws key 7 (on the number row) and in the
second list view, look for jaws find, press control a, then control f and
hit enter.

Hi,

In Firefox, control f is there own find command. Control insert f is the
jaws find one.

HTH.Actually that's how it is in IE, but jaws watches for that keystroke in
IE.

Hi:

I just have them both in my start menu and when I do need to switch to IE, I
simply open it from there. I often run them both at the same time with no
problems, that way I can just alt tab from one to the other.

Hello to all:

For your information the "Webvisum" add-on is working very well. I
have created "Yahoo", "Rediff" and "Zapak" email I.D.s on my own with
this add-on. On all occasions I have entered the verification code
successfully on my own with the option "solve captcha" in "Webvisum"
add-on.

With warm regards

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and access bridge

2008-07-04 Thread Annette Carr
There appear to be a lot of things that break the connection between Java
and Access bridge. When ever it is not working properly, reinstall access
bridge. Keep in mind that things appear to work best if you install access
bridge last. I can't give an explanation to why this is, but this is what
we have learned at work.

When I had problems with some java pages in IE, FS tech support suggested
that I install java run time and then the access bridge. It seemed to help.
Also, someone wrote to a list I'm on instructing that everytime JAVA is
updated, you should re-install the access bridge. HTH

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and access bridge

Hi:

With all of this talk about Java Access Bridge, I wonder if that's part of
the problem I'm having at work? I am using Java access and after every 2nd
or 3rd call JAWS starts losing focus, especially if I am using IE. I'm
using IE 6.0 and Windows 2000 with JAWS 9.0.2169u. In IE, JAWS either
starts making my Braille jump around or it gets stuck entirely and won't
move even though the cursor is moving. It eventually gets so bad that
updating the screen with insert escape doesn't work. When I restart JAWS it
goes into demo mode even though it's activated. I've already written
previous messages about this problem so I'll shut up. Any ideas would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Are there any jaws scripts for spybot search anddestroy version 1.52?

2008-07-04 Thread david whitehead
Hello there;

I'm using the latest version of Spybot, and I'm using, Script version 1.01.

basically the scripts work fine, except, when you want to update the
program.

1, I start the spybot program,

2, tab to search for updates,

3, you will see a screen,
Please select a download place to download the updates from.
Updates may work faster if you choose a place near your current
location.
you can read this, if you route jaws to PC.

4, just press the tab key, and select the location, with the arrow keys,

5, now, press, alt+c=continue,

6, now a list of updates will be listed, you need to press, alt+d=download.

before you press the alt+d, make sure that all the updates are selected. I
believe they are by default.

I hope this helps you.

So in the end I use FireFox on an old laptop as it is definitely faster
than IE but use IE for anything to do that requires serious use of data
input.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS & Fire Fox

2008-07-04 Thread Cesar Velarde
Donnie,

I've been testing Firefox 3 now for several days and I find it faster than
IE7. There are still some problems using it with Jaws 9 but I can live with
it. Try downloading an add on that will help you solve a CAPTCHA
verification schemed from http://www.webvisum.com/ I had try this add on
and successfully created an email account from GMail. I used this add on to
solve the CAPTCHA image and not the audio captcha provided by GMail. It is
not a 100% solution but it really works. I will try this with Yahoo next
time.

Re: [JAWS-Users] FireFox

2008-07-04 Thread mike & barbara

Mike

But you can change it back, in these programs options dialogs. Also if the
the option to check if IE is your default browser is turned on, every time
you start IE, it will say internet explorer is not your default browser and
give you the option to change it.

Hi, but have you tried updating to Firefox 3? I feel most of your problems will
have been resolved by now. Hope this helps.
