[JAWS-Users] I'm having trouble with outlook express.

2008-09-16 Thread kk
Hi there can someone tell me why when I press control R for replying to a
message, and yet when I receive my message back, I can't read what I've
written. Say for instance, I'm replying to a message on this list, and as it
comes back to me, there's nothing there but the original message which I
have replied to. What's happening here? and that's never happened before. I
hope I haven't confused you.kk.

hi karen,

FS does not recommend the all in one printer, scanner, fax combos. It
would be best to get a dedicated scanner. The Epson models seem to work
well with Open Book. As for printers, they are pretty much plug and
play. If you do not do much printing, I would recommend a monochrome
laser printer. They can be found for less than $100. The problem with
ink jet printers is that if you don't print much, the ink dries out, and
you may have to replace a cartridge even though you hardly used it.

I bought an HP monochrome laser printer for about $100, and it comes
with a toner cartridge installed. I've had it for over 2 years, and am
still using the original cartridge, even though I don't print a lot.

FS does not recommend the all in one printer, scanner, fax

would be best to get a dedicated scanner. The Epson models seem
to work
well with Open Book. As for printers, they are pretty much plug
and
play. If you do not do much printing, I would recommend a
monochrome

problem with
ink jet printers is that if you don't print much, the ink dries

Karen,

A word of advice. if your using a laser printer, and the paper's a little
warm after you remove it, don't worry. the laser inside reaches a
temperature of around 400 degrees centigrade when printing, that's why
there's a fan inside the printer, so that the paper doesn't burn, and it
cools the toma as it reaches the paper.

Karen,

Have you been in touch with your state agency for the blind? Their purpose
is to assist you with preparing you for employment, as well as connecting
you with sources of job listings. So if you need computer training, they
should be providing it to you. If they can't find a trainer, then they
should pay for training materials for you to train yourself. Another option
is to send you away for training.

Check out the course offerings from the Hadley School.

Hi Karen, I can remember how totally intimidated i was by jaws
and the

was doing.
If you go into the jaws window and hit alt+h, arrow down and
you'll find
training and keystrokes with jaws. that's a good starting
place.

I think the thing that made me feel most comfortable, since i was
afraid i'd
break the monster, was knowing that i can go into help, or the
control
panel, or any program, play around all i want and, as long as i
hit escape
rather than accept, yes, or enter, i wouldn't change anything
permanently. Good luck. Karen near chicago

Laser printers are much faster than ink jet, and their cartridges
last a
lot longer, even though they are more expensive than ink jet

I bought an HP monochrome laser printer for about $100, and it
comes
with a toner cartridge installed. I've had it for over 2 years,
and am
still using the original cartridge, even though I don't print a
lot.

hi karen,

FS does not recommend the all in one printer, scanner, fax
combos. It
would be best to get a dedicated scanner. The Epson models seem
to work
well with Open Book. As for printers, they are pretty much plug
and
play. If you do not do much printing, I would recommend a
monochrome
laser printer. They can be found for less than $100. The
problem with
ink jet printers is that if you don't print much, the ink dries
out, and
you may have to replace a cartridge even though you hardly used
it.

Karen,

A word of advice. if your using a laser printer, and the paper's
a little
warm after you remove it, don't worry. the laser inside reaches
a
temperature of around 400 degrees centigrade when printing,
that's why
there's a fan inside the printer, so that the paper doesn't burn,
and it
cools the toma as it reaches the paper.

Karen,

Have you been in touch with your state agency for the blind?
Their purpose
is to assist you with preparing you for employment, as well as
connecting
you with sources of job listings. So if you need computer
training, they
should be providing it to you. If they can't find a trainer,
then they
should pay for training materials for you to train yourself.
Another option
is to send you away for training.

Check out the course offerings from the Hadley School.

If you go into the jaws window and hit alt+h, arrow down and

training and keystrokes with jaws. that's a good starting
place.

I think the thing that made me feel most comfortable, since i was
afraid i'd

hit escape

hi Karen,

Then you undoubtedly know about the Caroll Center. It has the best
computer training program in the country, but you do have to pay to go
there. If you need the skills for work, the Commission should send you
there. I used to know the head of the Commission, and one of its best
counselors, but, unfortunately, neither of them work there any more.
But you should get them to send you there.

Hi there can someone tell me why when I press control R for replying to a
message, and yet when I receive my message back, I can't read what I've
written. Say for instance, I'm replying to a message on this list, and as
 it
comes back to me, there's nothing there but the original message which I
have replied to. What's happening here? and that's never happened before.
 I
 hope I haven't confused you.kk.

Karen, your story sounds like mine. We all started somewhere and
everyone
on this list tries to help so don't be reluctant to ask us
anything. I had
some sighted help to read the screen and help with software to
start so do
you have someone nearby who could pop in from time to time? I

hi Karen,

Then you undoubtedly know about the Caroll Center. It has the
 best
computer training program in the country, but you do have to pay
 to go

Re: [JAWS-Users] the new iTunes 8 screen reader friendly

2008-09-16 Thread Carlene Knight
I wonder if that's because you might be running JAWS insted of Window Eyes.
Since I don't want to pay for Window Eyes I will stick with J-Tunes and I-Tunes
7 until the next J-tunes version or wider accessibility happens. From what I
understand there is a lot of having to use the JAWS cursor. No thanks. I just
don't want to purchase an upgrade of J-Tunes as I have only had version 3.2 for
less than 4 months. It's not out yet, but promises to offer features you can't
get in I-Tunes 8 without it.

As it happens, ITunes8 is also quite accessible to JAWS9 (without the need
for extra pay-for scripts such as JTunes). It also works quite well as is
in JAWS10 beta.

Re: [JAWS-Users] upgrading to DSL

2008-09-16 Thread Zaheer Sheikh
Hey Tammy,

I used to work for Verizon DSL as a Technical support agent. Your
computer will run perfect with DSL. Most modem's configuration pages
are accessable with Jaws, and you'll be able to use phone and Internet
at the same time!

Hope this helps

 Hello Everyone:
I am planning to upgrade from dial up to DSL in the next couple of
weeks. I am running Jaws 7.01 and Windows XP Home and IE6. My computer
is a 2001 Gateway Pentium 3 with 512 Ram. I am wondering what if any
difficulties I may experience in this upgrade.
 Thanks for any help.

[JAWS-Users] Dragging and dropping

2008-09-16 Thread Damon Graff
Hi all,

I have recently become stuck when web sites require me to drag and drop
items to reorder them in a list, for example. I have checked in with all of
the help resources I can find, and have still had no success. First I use
the JAWS cursor and move to the item I want to select. The help files then
say to use the jaws key plus control plus 8 (I'm on a laptop), and imply
that this should give me some kind of drag-and-drop mode. It would then
seem that I should be able to move the selected item around using Alt plus
shift plus the arrow keys, but I haven't had any luck getting any of this to
work. Is there something I'm missing? I have found precious little
information on how to actually do this, just a brief description of the
commands themselves.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Damon

Re: [JAWS-Users] Dragging and dropping

2008-09-16 Thread Flor Lynch
What Web site? That might help us find alternative techniques for dealing
with the problem. have you ever tried multi-select combo boxes? These
enable you to go through a list of items in a combo box and select only some
of them: it occurs to me that that might help here. You press shift-F8 to
open a multi-select combo box, instead of alt-down-arrow (which you use for
a single selection combo box). After entering Forms Mode, press shift-F8,
to open the extendable select
list. Hit spacebar on each of the items you want to select. (All of this
is (or appears to be) an Internet Explorer functionality.)

I wonder if that's because you might be running JAWS insted of Window Eyes.
Since I don't want to pay for Window Eyes I will stick with J-Tunes and
I-Tunes
7 until the next J-tunes version or wider accessibility happens. From what
I
understand there is a lot of having to use the JAWS cursor. No thanks. I
just
don't want to purchase an upgrade of J-Tunes as I have only had version 3.2
for
less than 4 months. It's not out yet, but promises to offer features you
can't
get in I-Tunes 8 without it.

As it happens, ITunes8 is also quite accessible to JAWS9 (without the need
for extra pay-for scripts such as JTunes). It also works quite well as is
in JAWS10 beta.
