Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Restoring Computer

Jaws and Windows sounds are sent to the default audio output device. If
this is not functional, then plugging in a USB sound card or USB headset
will over ride the settings and become the default audio output device. No
software installation is necessary, Windows will have all the drivers it
needs. You can then configure your settings in order to restore sound to
your preferred audio output device.

Plugging in a USB sound device will override your default sound output
and allow you to solve any problems you have with your sound card.

Can you restore your computer anyway possible without speech?

It would seem my husband decided to install some updated drivers on his
computer last night, now no speech, no window sounds come up. The
computer does boot up and he has just enough sight to see that it's on
the desktop, but no windows sounds and of course no Jaws...

The driver was for Creative Sound Card. I just have no idea how to fix
this without any speech.

He uses xp pro and Jaws 9.

[JAWS-Users] How To Use Avast

2008-10-14 Thread Donnie Parrett
My sighted cousin installed Avast for me. It seems to be doing it's thing at
all times. Do I need
to schedule it for regular scans? Or, is it doing what it is supposed to do at
all times? If I do
need to run a scan manually, or schedule the scans, could someone please tell
me how to do it?
Sorry for such vague and simple questions, but I have never used this program
and I know absolutely
nothing about it.

Thanks,
Donnie

Re: [JAWS-Users] Win 311

2008-10-14 Thread tim
Those key combos didn't come up until win95. With
win3.11 all windows have the file, edit, view and
help menu bar. So have more than others and some
have less, but the standard menu bar is what it basically used.
You have no desktop, its the program list, and
for all file tasks you use the file manager. When
you bring up win 3.11 the program list is what
first comes up and you have to tab to each program you want to use.
Window bridge, jaws 1 and a few others made it
possible to use win 3.11 with ease.

[JAWS-Users] jaws reading in run dialog

2008-10-14 Thread ryan Perdue
I have a friend using jaws 9 who tells me that anytime she goes to the run
dialog box to run a program jaws imideately starts speaking different
programs and links untill she is finished typing.
She also gets the same thing when she is trying to open a web site in
internet explorer.
They are basically suggestions on what she is trying to type but, she would
like to turn them off.

How do you do this?

This is part of Internet Explorer's AutoComplete feature. Disable this

[JAWS-Users] problem with Jaws 10 and Outlook 2007 all through the beata cycle

2008-10-14 Thread Stuart
Hi Listers

I have my messages in outlook arranged by subject but when I delete a
collapsed group of messages Jaws will not speak the next message with focus
automatically, I have to read the message manually. This does not occur in
Jaws 9.

Thanks in advance
