The following instructions explain how to reply directly to a sender
without

using the special JAWS 10 keystroke:

Replying privately to a message on a list.
Option one.
1. Open the message of the person that you want to reply to privately.
2. Hold down the alt key and press the number 1 on the num row twice
rapidly.
3. Press control A to select the address, then control C to copy the
address to the clipboard.

Now there are two things you can do.
1. If you want to send a new message to the person, press control N for
new

message.
2. Press control V in the to field to paste the address of the person
you

copied.

1. If you wish to reply to the person privately, but include the message
you are reading, press control R.
2. Shift tab back to the to field.
3. Press control A to select the jfwlite email address.
4. Press the delete key to delete the jfwlite email address.
5. Press control V to paste in the email address of the person you wish
to

reply to privately.

Option 2 (if you have quoting enabled).
Press control-r to reply, then arrow down to the from line, then
arrow across to the less than sign, then press shift-end key, then
control-c to copy that to the clip board, then shift-tab to the to:
field,
and press control-a, then press control-v to paste in the address that
you

coppied to the clip board, then tab to the edit field , and write your
message.

In JAWS 10, you can use the keystroke JAWSKey + shift + R to reply
directly to a sender on a mailing list. Is it possible to do the same
thing in a different way without using JAWS?

2008-11-01 Thread Negoslav Sabev

Hi Mostafa,

You can change the speed of the audio using ctrl+pg up and ctrl+pg down.
Unfortunately I couldn't see keys for changing the volume. You can explore
the menus to find what hotkeys you can use in the aplication. You can do
this not only for FSReader, but for practicly all aplications. For more help
with the reader you can listen or read the help material provided with the
aplication itself.

good morning folks:
i'll ask about that series issue of using the daisy books wich are
installed in the FS reader located under the help menu.
question contain a certain point that is:
how could i'll get keystroke combinations to manage this menu

i know that control P to play and control p to pause.
and it is not necessary that my curser should to be focused in the
applacation itself.
we could do it from an any situation.
that's excelent.
but actually:
i'd like to know more about that particular programme.
how could i'll increase and decrease the volume.
am sorry: that i forgot to mention that i'm also know how could i'll
increase and decrease the speed rate.
that's by: alt control pageup to increase.
and alt control pagedown to decrease.
but this point contain important question that's:
it also not necessary focus in the applacation?
please friends:
if some one be able to provide us about more keystroke combinations

[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder

2008-11-01 Thread Moderator

Here are the list guidelines, all members should read them carefully!
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with
scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all know
works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or
want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates
a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I
am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how
new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence
to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be
there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is
quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than
first.
So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck
then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current
dilemma.
Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if
there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with
JAWS
is perfectly fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom
Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest
you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also
any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be
posted
to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment
but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete
messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 200
subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that
are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you
will
find the group web address along with some other relevant information
pertaining to contacting the management team ETC. It is very frustrating to
read
a post asking for the group web address when the very next line states visit
the JAWS Users List home page and the next line after that is the URL.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your
account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and
follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after
receiving
a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer wish to be
a member of the list and remove your email address.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech
swap shop
or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services
will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is
off
topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does
not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should
only
post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be
short and to the point without including any member names.

The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules
to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in effect do
not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at
the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and
every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with

unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly
please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help
dying
kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.

[JAWS-Users] Alert document is empty

2008-11-01 Thread Larry Stansifer
Hi folks,

I recently received a PDF document and when I attempted to open it I
received the following message: Alert document is empty.
Undaunted by Jaws inability to recognize certain PDF formatting I proceeded
to open it in note pad as a TXT file and received a blank screen with Jaws
simply sounding top and bottom alert.
Would it be safe to assume that because I receive no information using
either file format that the document is in fact empty and I need to have the
document resent?

I have encountered the same problem with some PDF documents. The document is
not empty. It was scanned as an image. Therefore, JAWS is unable to
recognize it as text. I have yet to find a solution for this problem though.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Alert document is empty

2008-11-01 Thread Dale Leavens
If you look at the document in Windows Explorer with View/Details selected
and it has a byte count of significantly more than 0 then you have the file
in all probability. It is most likely a graphic, that is, a picture of text.
What you are observing is that there is no text for NotePad or Adobe Reader
to display.

If you have Kurzweil or OpenBook or some other OCR programme you might be
able to get them to open the document and scan it to recognize text. This is
not usually all that satisfactory partly because the image may not be so
clear or well scanned and the software can't discriminate the text in it all
that well either.

Sometimes you can print the file to a good printer then scan that into a
programme like K1000 or OpenBook and get reasonable intelligence that way.

You probably have the full document, just not in a form you can use.
Frustrating isn't it.

[JAWS-Users] MS Word 2002 question

2008-11-01 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi All,

Today when I tried to close a new document in Word 2002 I got this message.
Microsoft Word
This file is in use by another application or user.
 (C:\Documents and Settings\...\Normal.dot)
OK

I got this message once with something in the document and once with an
empty document. Both times it was with document 1. I was cleaning up an
email that I had copied to Word and that email was closed. So, this is why
I am not quite understanding what is meant by Jaws telling me this
application is in use by another application or user. I don't recall ever
getting this type of message. I am running XP/Office Home 2002, Jaws 10,
Outlook Express 6 and also running up a large bill with DoctorPhil. All
advice and information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Have a
great weekend and get your hands out of your children's candy bags.

Four, is the remote control that they provide you with easy , and are the

If anyone has answers too all of these questions, would you please be so

Hi Mike.

In the Options menu, Settings, and at the Save tab, there is a checkbox,
checked, that indicates that you should be asked if the standard pattern
normal.dot must be saved, every time you close Word.
Uncheck this checkbox, and press ok, and you should bee done.

Greetings from

[JAWS-Users] converting MP3 files

2008-11-01 Thread Candy Lowe
Hi guys,
I have a bunch of music files that I want to convert to MP3 files. Most of
them are songs that I have ripped from CD's. I can change them by using total
recorder, but I would have to convert one file at a time.
Can anyone tell me of a program that can do a whole folder at a time, and also
something that works well with jaws.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] converting MP3 files

2008-11-01 Thread Alice

Goldwave is a good one, go to www.goldwave.com for more information.
To download JAWS scripts, go to www.blindgeekzone.net
Goldwave is not free, you have to buy it. The scripts are free though. To
convert files, do not open a new file, stay in the main window and on the
file menu click batch processing. The goldwave scripts are found on the
programmes page of the blind geek zone website. The goldwave audio tutorials
are found on the audio page of the blind geek zone website. The tutorials
are done by Rick Harmon and he is the owner of the blind geek zone website.

Hope this helps!

Subject: [JAWS-Users] converting MP3 files

Hi guys,
I have a bunch of music files that I want to convert to MP3 files. Most
of them are songs that I have ripped from CD's. I can change them by
using total recorder, but I would have to convert one file at a time.
Can anyone tell me of a program that can do a whole folder at a time, and
also something that works well with jaws.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word 2002 question

2008-11-01 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi Hans,

Are you referring to the Prompt to save normal template checkbox? If so,
this checkbox was unchecked. I think what might have happened is that I
might have had a document open and forgot about it. If I had done this
would I have received the message I posted in my last email? Thanks for
your help.

Mike

Hi Mike.

In the Options menu, Settings, and at the Save tab, there is a checkbox,
checked, that indicates that you should be asked if the standard pattern
normal.dot must be saved, every time you close Word.
Uncheck this checkbox, and press ok, and you should bee done.

Greetings from
Hans Pauli.

Emne: [JAWS-Users] MS Word 2002 question

 Hi All,

Today when I tried to close a new document in Word 2002 I got this
 message.
 Microsoft Word
This file is in use by another application or user.
 (C:\Documents and Settings\...\Normal.dot)
 OK

I got this message once with something in the document and once with an
empty document. Both times it was with document 1. I was cleaning up an
email that I had copied to Word and that email was closed. So, this is
 why
I am not quite understanding what is meant by Jaws telling me this
application is in use by another application or user. I don't recall ever
getting this type of message. I am running XP/Office Home 2002, Jaws 10,
Outlook Express 6 and also running up a large bill with DoctorPhil. All
advice and information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Have a
great weekend and get your hands out of your children's candy bags.

Total recorder does have a batch processing feature. Look under the options

Yes I quite agree about goldwave. it's very good, however, I have a file

Re: [JAWS-Users] converting MP3 files

2008-11-01 Thread Hans Pauli Sundstein
Hi Candy.

You can try Audiograbber, that is free, and by it selv can convert wave files
to wma, and with supplying the Lame Encoder wich can be downloaded free also
from the internet, it can convert to mp3 also.
It is very accessable without any script for jaws, it works fine by default!

You can search for Audiograbber on Google, that, as well as i remember, is
hosting the site where it can be downloaded from.
It is only approximate 1.4 megabyte.
And the Lame_enc.dll is quit small too.

I have used it since Jaws 4.01, and there has never been problems with using
the program with Jaws.

Good luck.

Greetings from
Hans Pauli.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 10 beta expired?

2008-11-01 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
A strange thing happened this morning that I'm wondering if particular to my
computer or if this applies to others as well. I turned my computer on as
normal and when done booting up I heard Jaws 10 beta version expired,
contact freedom scientific. Following this and on subsequent boots nothing
but silence, not even a 40 minute demo mode. This beta version has been
working fine as I've been giving them feedback. I did not upgrade to the
latest beta version a couple of weeks or so ago but have the one just before
it. I know these beta versions expire once they release the final JAWS
version and folks receive their CD's in the mail. Have they released the CD
yet as I've not received or heard that they have. Fortunately I still have
JAWS 9 on my machine so no big deal. However, I'm not looking forward to
going to work Monday morning and having the same thing happen down there.
Anyone else had this?

Hi Candy.

You can try Audiograbber, that is free, and by it selv can convert wave
files to wma, and with supplying the Lame Encoder wich can be downloaded
free also from the internet, it can convert to mp3 also.
It is very accessable without any script for jaws, it works fine by
default!

You can search for Audiograbber on Google, that, as well as i remember, is
hosting the site where it can be downloaded from.

It is only approximate 1.4 megabyte.
And the Lame_enc.dll is quit small too.

I have used it since Jaws 4.01, and there has never been problems with
using the program with Jaws.

Good luck.

Greetings from
Hans Pauli.

Goldwave is a good one, go to www.goldwave.com for more information.
To download JAWS scripts, go to www.blindgeekzone.net
Goldwave is not free, you have to buy it. The scripts are free though.
To
convert files, do not open a new file, stay in the main window and on
the

file menu click batch processing. The goldwave scripts are found on the
programmes page of the blind geek zone website. The goldwave audio
tutorials are found on the audio page of the blind geek zone website.
The

tutorials are done by Rick Harmon and he is the owner of the blind geek

Hope this helps!

Hi guys,
I have a bunch of music files that I want to convert to MP3 files.
Most

of them are songs that I have ripped from CD's. I can change them by
using total recorder, but I would have to convert one file at a time.
Can anyone tell me of a program that can do a whole folder at a time,
and

also something that works well with jaws.

Thanks.

A strange thing happened this morning that I'm wondering if particular to
my
computer or if this applies to others as well. I turned my computer on
as

normal and when done booting up I heard Jaws 10 beta version expired,
contact freedom scientific. Following this and on subsequent boots
nothing
but silence, not even a 40 minute demo mode. This beta version has been
working fine as I've been giving them feedback. I did not upgrade to the
latest beta version a couple of weeks or so ago but have the one just
before
it. I know these beta versions expire once they release the final JAWS
version and folks receive their CD's in the mail. Have they released the
CD
yet as I've not received or heard that they have. Fortunately I still
have
JAWS 9 on my machine so no big deal. However, I'm not looking forward to
going to work Monday morning and having the same thing happen down there.
Anyone else had this?

Re: [JAWS-Users] converting MP3 files

2008-11-01 Thread Rick Justice

Hi KK,
Try this with the troublesome file:
While the file in question is selected in the list where it is being stored,
Press the F2 key to rename it.
You are not actually going to rename the file, just change the file
extension.

Try changeing it from .wma, to .mp3, and see what happens.
If this file was acquired from the internet, there is a chance that it has
been tinkered with.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 10 beta expired?

Al

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 10 beta expired?

2008-11-01 Thread Roger Levine

Hi,
I am using version 10.0.419 with no experation date problems. I have heard
that if you miss an update, it will break the beta update pattern. This is
probably the reason why you are having this issue. It appears that you are
locked out using version 10 until the official program release.

Hi KK,
Try this with the troublesome file:
While the file in question is selected in the list where it is being
stored,

Press the F2 key to rename it.
You are not actually going to rename the file, just change the file
extension.

Try changeing it from .wma, to .mp3, and see what happens.
If this file was acquired from the internet, there is a chance that it has
been tinkered with.

Yes I quite agree about goldwave. it's very good, however, I have a file
which for the life of me will not convert from wma to mp3, and yet I have
had no trouble with others. Is there any reason for that? thanks.kk.

Goldwave is a good one, go to www.goldwave.com for more information.
To download JAWS scripts, go to www.blindgeekzone.net
Goldwave is not free, you have to buy it. The scripts are free though.
To convert files, do not open a new file, stay in the main window and on
the file menu click batch processing. The goldwave scripts are found on
the programmes page of the blind geek zone website. The goldwave audio
tutorials are found on the audio page of the blind geek zone website.
The tutorials are done by Rick Harmon and he is the owner of the blind
geek zone website.

Hope this helps!

Hi guys,
I have a bunch of music files that I want to convert to MP3 files.
Most of them are songs that I have ripped from CD's. I can change them
by using total recorder, but I would have to convert one file at a
time.
Can anyone tell me of a program that can do a whole folder at a time,
and also something that works well with jaws.

Thanks.

I have used it since Jaws 4.01, and there has never been problems with
using the program with Jaws.

Good luck.

Greetings from
Hans Pauli.
