[JAWS-Users] I know, you all haven't heard two words from me in a long time:

2008-11-09 Thread Karen Bailey
The latest is, someone is helping with lessons for me, and I
thank them very much. And, thought you'd all want to know what
was the problem really. Seems that Del had put too many programs
on my computer was part of my trouble plus my lack of knowledge
generally. With so many programs, about thirty, it was shutting
Jaws speech down. I had my lawyer's trustee who knew a good
technical guy, hired, and came and had to do reloading of all
programs, and deletion of those which I could not use as a blind
person. Then reloaded Jaws, and everything seems to be working
now wow! What a battle! Have been going through this stuff since
purchase of the machine. Karen and Harpo unsure how this could
have been avoided, in the first place but glad things work now.

[JAWS-Users] Unmuting Jaws

2008-11-09 Thread Mark
Hi
I have a trouble where Jaws is muting itself. I can't find the unmute key
on the default key list. I must be over looking it on that list of over 600
Jaws Keys. Does any one know where the key stroke is to unmute JAWS?
  Any ideas are appreciated.

God bless,
Mark

  Hi Michael,

One thing to try is ,
  1. Copy the document to the clipboard.
  2. Open MS Word, but don't paste the document yet.
  3. Press alt + e for the edit menu.
  4. Arrow down to Paste Special and press enter or just press the
letter s,
that will take you straight to Paste Special.
  5. Arrow up or down to unformatted text and press enter. This will
paste
the document into MS Word in an unformatted text form.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but it does work in
a lot
  of instances. I am running XP & office 2002 Home & Jaws 9 & 10. Hope
this
  helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] selecting input in Goldwave

2008-11-09 Thread Leonard Morris
One more thing please to add to this discussion. The only time I see options
such as device input and settings appearing together is when I hit ctrl F9.
But, these options last for about a second then quickly goes away and of
course something is being recorded which in my case is from my internal mike
on the laptop.

Lenoard, you're in the wrong screen. There are several to choose from.
As I recall, Alt Tab should bring you to the Record Page. In there,
you'll find various check boxes, depending on what you want to record.
Since you're using the computer and trying to record an audio from the
Internet, I suggest that you choose "What You Hear" as the choice. Make
sure that the box is checked to confirm your choice and be sure that the
up/down slider is resonably high, maybe 70%. There's another check box
which actually mutes all sound. Make sure that this box is not checked.
That should do it Lenoard. Find something on the net and run a test . As
you may already know, you have to exit that screen display and return to
the main Multiple Client Window. There, Control F9 will start your
recording. I suggest that you look at all of the controls before beginning
to make a recording. There's a check box in the preferences menu which
will allow for "unbounded" recordings, meaning that they aren't limited
to a certain length. I have always used that option since I never know
how long one of those streamed programs will be.

I hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] selecting input in Goldwave

2008-11-09 Thread Leonard Morris
First, I reviewed the controll properties panel (f11) where play, device,
record, test, and volume tabs are located. John indicated I believe that I
was in the wrong area. Where should I be and what keystroke should be used
if F11 is not correct. Secondly, Tim said, "See if you can change it to
either what you hear or sound wave on recording side.) I can not find this
option. Any skype users willing to contact me regarding these issues?
Obviously I am doing something wrong here. Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] winamp

2008-11-09 Thread Fiallo
Hi, all
OK. I hope someone respond to this. Whenever I tried to play several songs,
Winamp tend to start playing from the last to the first. How do I fix this? I
want it to play from the first I select to the last instead of last to first. I
tend to use a folder where I have songs or movies. I do not have a list in
winamp or any other program.

Re: [JAWS-Users] selecting input in Goldwave

2008-11-09 Thread JOHN JUSTICE
Lenoard, you're in the wrong screen. There are several to choose from. As
I recall, Alt Tab should bring you to the Record Page. In there, you'll
find various check boxes, depending on what you want to record. Since
you're using the computer and trying to record an audio from the Internet,
I suggest that you choose "What You Hear" as the choice. Make sure that
the box is checked to confirm your choice and be sure that the up/down
slider is resonably high, maybe 70%. There's another check box which
actually mutes all sound. Make sure that this box is not checked. That
should do it Lenoard. Find something on the net and run a test . As you
may already know, you have to exit that screen display and return to the
main Multiple Client Window. There, Control F9 will start your recording.
I suggest that you look at all of the controls before beginning to make a
recording. There's a check box in the preferences menu which will allow for
"unbounded" recordings, meaning that they aren't limited to a certain
length. I have always used that option since I never know how long one of
those streamed programs will be.

I hope this helps.

I want to be able to record audio from the internet but I can not switch
from Pc microphone. I looked in the controll panel (f11) but I don't see
where I can make the adjustment. Below is a screen shot of the device tab
in the GoldWave controll (f11) panel.

Subject: VIP-L: jaws Microsoft outlook and specifying email address

When I go to send an email sometimes I have a message say please specify the
email address I have already put the address in, it is though there isn't
any address in there when I have put one in the to field and the couple I
want to place in the bcc field. I was wondering if anyone else has
encountered this problem and if there is a way of fixing it.It is when I am
in the edit field when I have typed the message and do alt s to send that is
when the message comes up. What I do is go out and do the whole email again
which would be a nuisance if it was a long one.

Re: [JAWS-Users] "Alert document is empty"

2008-11-09 Thread Flor Lynch
If OCR hadn't been turned on in the beginning of the process, Omnipage by
itself could probably OCR the image files if needed: then you could read the
PDF's with JAWS, although the OCR mightn't be as good.

Our department purchased an HP copier model 9055 (I think) with a scanning
package added; the copier/scanner is connected to all computers in the dept
and I have OmniPage on my computer; but JAWS reads pdf without further OCR
process if the "recognize text with OCR" is turned on; in other words, OP is
not needed.

What make and model of scanner and what scanning software are you using?

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] "Alert document is empty"

The reason JAWS reads it as a blank document is because whoever scanned the
document forgot to turn on the 'recognize text with OCR" button. When I want
a hard copy scanned as pdf, I give my student worker the following
instructions:

1. place copy on scanner
2. open Adobe Acrobat
3. go to file menu (alt f)
4. down arrow to "create pdf" submenu and then right arrow
5. choose the source of scan, in this case choose "from scanner" 6. you
are in a dialog box with combo boxes and radio buttons: a. choose scanner b.
choose front or both sides c. check "recognize text with OCR" (default
setting but sometimes other users may turn it off) d. settings choose
the settings you want e. check the button that says "add tags improves
accessibility for disabled users. f. press enter on the scan button.

The resulting PDF file should be readable with JAWS.

Best,
Samira

Hi folks,

I recently received a PDF document and when I attempted to open it I
received the following message: "Alert document is empty." Undaunted by
Jaws inability to recognize certain PDF formatting I proceeded to open it
in note pad as a TXT file and received a blank screen with Jaws simply
sounding top and bottom alert. Would it be safe to assume that because I
receive no information using either file format that the document is in fact
empty and I need to have the document resent?
