[JAWS-Users] trouble with jaws and skype

2008-11-28 Thread KB
Hi, I don't understand how to get out of skype, tried alt4 letter c, for
close, escape, nothing still sits there. Also how to make a call, evidently
don't get it. I tried, on menu bar says call so entered, and no ring. Thanks
ahead of time. What am I doing wrong?

Karen:
You will need to use Alt F4 to close your Skype window. Also did you install
the scripts for skype? If your using Jaws you will need these scripts to
make skype run better. If you need any further assistance you may contact me
off list and I will be more than glad to walk you threw anything that you
need assistance with. Contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] And we'll go from

Re: [JAWS-Users] Blind web site that doesn't quite work?

2008-11-28 Thread rcham27

Thanks for the tip.
I am not comfortable yet, with downloading a PDF to another window.
Where would I put it? In Microsoft Word?
Would it take the same time to open it in there versus on line?
And, how would I open it? Would I have to find Adobe and do some key
punching or, would Adobe automatically open it once I open it?
My guess, is that, when I come upon a PDF, I would go to the menu bar and
hit the save as button to put it in to my documents?

Thanks again.

It is important to remember that PDF files take a long time to load,
especially if you are on dial-up. That is why I download these files
before opening them. Adobe Acrobat Reader should be set to open the
document in a separate window other than your browser. This will allow you
to close your document without closing your browser. When it opens your
document, it should ask you how you would like it to be displayed. If it
did not even do that it did not even start loading the document. Getting a
feel for how slow PDF files are? They are immensely beneficial but they
are also less intuitive--meaning it does not tell you how close it is to
completing loading the document.

Hi, I have 10.0 and XP home.
I was given the below web site to up load and I am having problems with
this

task.
When I hit the link, the PDF doesn't seem to complete its function.
Also, when I try to alt. left arrow back to the main page nothing
happens.

I then have to alt. F4 and this knocks me out of I E.
Any thoughts would be helpful.
Here is the web info.

[JAWS-Users] Virus removal or, scam?

2008-11-28 Thread rcham27

I have XP home and 10.0.
My McAfee indicates there is a potentially harmful object.
It may have been labeled as an Add aware, UCMoore or something similar.
When I go to details, I can not find a way to quarantine it.
I would have thought that the quarantine option would be easy to find.

It seems like the only way to remove this , is to pay for some special tool.

Does this sound fishy to anyone?

Thanks for any thoughts.

[JAWS-Users] avast or AVG revisited

2008-11-28 Thread David Ferrin
Here of late I'm pondering my choice to go with avast instead of staying with
AVG that I used for 2 years. Although AVG had a few false positives avast has
had more in the past 6 months or so than AVG did in to years. Yes at the time
there was a major issue with AVG 8 but FS has done something on their end to
repair what the AVG people broke if I understand things correctly. I'm looking
for feedback and opinions especially if anybody out there has used both
products over the years. I could go back to AVG easy enough but I am also
considering some other folks who tend to follow my guidance because I do not
want to steer them wrong either.

HI,

It works very well with jaws! You have to do several things with the jaws
cursor, but it's not that bad when you get used to it.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] avast or AVG revisited

2008-11-28 Thread Arianna Calesso
David, I have used AVG and am now using Avast. Both of these are the free
programs.

I liked AVG because it automatically scanned my computer at a scheduled
time, but I was amazed to find out when i installed and ran a scan with
Avast that my computer had a virus and malware that AVG and my anti spy
programs didn't pick up.

Avast has picked up malware in a few scans, so I know it's more efficient
than AVG, at least in my opinion.

The thing I don't like about Avast is that I have to manually initiate a
scan. It's not a big deal, but sometimes I get caught up in other things
and I just don't think to run the thing.

I am thinking of looking into Nod32. Do you know anything about this
software? Is it friendly with JAWS? i know it isn't free, but do you know
how much it costs?

So now I gave you some answers and some questions. it will be interesting
to see what others have to say about this.

they should be installed or not. They are as follows. Epson biz card, epson

using this scanner with openbook7 point 02, but I am thinking of migrating

Re: [JAWS-Users] Virus removal or, scam?

2008-11-28 Thread rcham27

Great advice Brian, once again.
I do have super anti spyware and update it regularly,
I'll runn it again.
I'll also try the C cleaner you suggested.
I also run the recommended maintenance that is on the JAWS web site.

Many thanks.

Hello,

You shouldn't have to pay for any special tool for removing adware.
UCMore is not a virus or a Trojan Horse, it is adware. I would suggest
that you use Super Anti-Spyware to see if it removes UCMore. I uploaded
the Super Anti-Spyware program installation file to Sendspace if you want
to download and install it. If you install the program, or if you already
have it installed, then be sure to use the check for updates feature of
the program before running the scan. Running the quick scan on your hard
drives should be adequate for finding and removing this adware.

I would further suggest that you run CCleaner to remove temp files from
various areas on the hard drive.

Here is a link to the Super Anti-Spyware installation file on Sendspace:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/z9pfp2

Here is the link for the CCleaner program on Sendspace:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/zjdp9r

Mcafee and Symantec give the UCMore adware a Risk Impact rating of low.
Here are a few quotes from the McAfee web site:

This is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) detection. It is not a virus
or Trojan. PUPs are any piece of software which a reasonably security-or
privacy-minded computer user may want to be informed of.
McAfee(R) AVERTT recognizes that this program may have legitimate uses in
contexts where an authorized administrator has knowingly installed this
application. If you agreed to a license agreement for this, or another
bundled application, you may have legal obligations with regard to
removing this software, or using the host application without this
software. Please contact the software vendor for further information.
This is not a virus or Trojan. It is a direct adware marketing
application. Upon execution, the application drops adware related contents
and installs a toolbar with the name UCMore-The Search Accelerator. The
toolbar suggests matches for any search made in the address bar. For
example, on typing casino in address bar, the toolbar suggests its own
matches

While browsing, it contacts its controlling server users.UCMore.com.

There are some programs (such as some P2P programs) that won't work right
if adware or toolbars were agreed to as part of an installation and then
are later removed.

I think that your best course of action is to start with using Super
anti-Spyware and CCleaner. I doubt if removing the program using
Add/Remove will get rid of all traces.

Take care.

I have XP home and 10.0.
My McAfee indicates there is a potentially harmful object.
It may have been labeled as an Add aware, UCMoore or something similar.
When I go to details, I can not find a way to quarantine it.
I would have thought that the quarantine option would be easy to find.

It seems like the only way to remove this , is to pay for some special
tool.

Does this sound fishy to anyone?

Thanks for any thoughts.

I've recently went to Avast and the one thing I do like it for over AVG is
it does not scan your whole system daily. Scanning the entire system daily,

 Hello:
I have used Avast for years and have never seemed to have any kind of
problems with it until recently. It doesn't seem to me to be updating like
it used to. Perhaps there hasn't been any updates lately, however, I do
not know if this is so or not. I have pondered using AVG, however I am
given to understand that it is not accessible with Jaws. I would like to
know if the later is true at this time, or not. And thank you very much.

Do you know anything about this
software? Is it friendly with JAWS? i know it isn't free, but do you
know

how much it costs?

So now I gave you some answers and some questions. it will be interesting
to see what others have to say about this.

David, why bnot make both AVG and AVAST available to whomever would want

not put a link up on the Website to download both products, one link for AVG
and the other one for AVAST, the two free programs that is.

[JAWS-Users] WAV to MP-3

2008-11-28 Thread Larry Stansifer
Hi folks,

I have Winamp 5.31 and Windows Media player on my machine,
I have an audio disk recorded in Wave Format and and need to
convert it to mp-3 for use with Winamp.
What is the cleanest way to accomplish that conversion?
I am using either Jaws 8.latest or 9.latest and Windows
XP-Pro.
