[JAWS-Users] skype tip

2008-12-17 Thread David Ferrin
Here is a quick single command line method for adding a Skype contact to your
list. First hit the Windows key and the letter R to open up the run dialog box.
Next type the following with no spaces and hit enter.

skype:skypename?add

Obviously change skypename to the contact of your choice. At that point an edit
field opens up and asks you to say hello to who ever it is you wish to add. If
you already know the person's contact name you wish to add this is the easiest
way to do it.

Yes, it's an Nvidia GEForce 7300 LE.

I'm thinking that I will need to go way back to an earlier version of

Re: [JAWS-Users] any time scripts have been fixed

2008-12-17 Thread David Ferrin
No there aren't. The problem I found is if a person has a config name INI
file merged from an earlier version of jaws containing the line ATW
=anytime deluxe but not the original scripts from an earlier version of
jaws, then at that point installs the scripts from my web site that are all
named ATW instead of anytime deluxe. Their config name INI file in effect
disables the scripts because jaws is looking for them under another name. So
if anybody does install those scripts and finds that they do not work they
will need to comment out that line in the INI file. That is what tossed me
for a loop this afternoon until I figured it out. This started when I
noticed that they didn't work on my wife's computer, but now they do. I made
a note on the scripts page that they do not need referenced in the INI file
at all.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Font styles in MS Word 2003

2008-12-17 Thread Annette Carr
I stumbled across this in the JAWS help today. I do not know if it will be
of any help with your graphical font dilemma. Hope it helps. I've pasted
it below.

Annette

Adding Speech for Special Symbols

While JAWS correctly represents the most frequently used symbols with
speech, you may need to add new ones. If you are reading a document and find
that
JAWS misrepresents or does not announce a symbol, do the following:

Note: These steps are only applicable if you are using JAWS with Windows
2000 or later (that is, the unicode version of JAWS). Versions of JAWS
installed
on earlier Windows operating systems do not support this feature.

list of 7 items
1. From the Utilities menu, choose Configuration Manager.
2. From the Set Options menu, choose Graphics and Symbols.
3. Select the Speak Character Value in Hex check box.
4. Choose OK. Then, press CTRL+S to save your changes and press ALT+F4 to
close Configuration Manager.
5. Return to your document. Move the cursor to a lowercase letter a (type
one if none are present) and press NUM PAD 5 three times quickly. JAWS
should
say, “Character U+61HEX”. If you hear anything else, do not proceed with
these steps.
6. Move the cursor to the character whose speech representation you want to
change and press NUM PAD 5 three times quickly to obtain the hexadecimal
unicode
value of the character. Be sure to make a note of this value, as you will
need it in the next steps.
7. Using a text editor like Notepad, open the .sbl file for the active
synthesizer. This file is located in your user settings folder (C:\Documents
and
Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\X (where X is
the JAWS version number)\Settings\Enu). If your user settings folder does
not
contain Eloq.sbl, then look for it in the shared settings folder.
list end

Note: Character definitions are specific to your synthesizer and selected
language. For example, if you are using Eloquence and American English, you
should
open the file named Eloq.sbl and modify the section named [American
English].

list of 2 items
8. At the bottom of the appropriate section for your language, add a new
entry for the specific symbol you want JAWS to speak. The entry should be in
the
following format:

U+=SpokenRepresentation

(Where is the unicode hexadecimal value of the symbol, and
SpokenRepresentation is the desired pronunciation).
9. Save your changes to the .sbl file, and then quit and restart JAWS. Your
speech changes should now take effect.
list end

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Font styles in MS Word 2003

Hiya

I'm continuing to work through my college work, and hit a part where I have
to change the font style. normally this is pretty easy to do but the font I
am asked to use is Wingdings and webdings.

for those not familiar with them, they're pictures instead of words. for
example, if you wanted to write a note for a telephone message, you could
write (windings font) a picture of a telephone then in another normal font
the phone number.

My question is, I'm using jaws 8 and office 2003 at college. When I changed
the font to either wingdings or webdings jaws doesn't see the graphic, which
is what I expected.

I thought of labelling the graphic but, I cant appear to get the jaws cursor
on to the graphic to label it. the cursor sits either left or right of the
graphic.

I even asked my assistant to click on it with the mouse but she couldn't do
it either.

another option I thought of, was to label the graphic in the dictionary
manager. I did that and if I used the jaws cursor to read the sentence it
worked, but, not with the pc cursor.

With the PC cursor, all I saw instead of the graphic, was a /. I tried
using all graphics mode to see if jaws would pick up any graphic but that
didn't appear to help neither.

does anyone know of a way I can use this font?

for my course I have to write a sentence using this font, then manipulate
them, either moving copying or deleting them.

I would very much appreciate any help or suggestion that could be offered as
I'm getting extremely frustrated.

thanks in advance.

Elaine

Re: [JAWS-Users] The dreaded video intercept error!

2008-12-17 Thread tim
Tell jaws not to start up on boot. then once your up running. Use
narrator to install the video intercept. Then you can start jaws
after boot and should work.

At 11:16 AM 12/15/2008, you wrote:

Hello all,

This weekend, I had to reformat a computer with Windows xp Media Center.
I had been using Jaws 9 and I had a version of Jaws 8 on the computer.
I did not uninstall either version before reformatting. I tried
reloading Jaws 9, but got a fatal error that kept Jaws from loading. I
instead loaded Jaws 10.

Now, every time I start up Jaws, I get the indication that I need to
load the video intercept. No matter how many times I've tried, I keep
getting the error. The video intercept is listed in Add/Remove so I
know it's there. Jaws still talks and I can access the controls on the
error message, but I'd really like to get rid of this thing.

Any suggestions? I suppose I could delte Jaws 10. find a good copy
of Jaws 9, reinstall that and properly delete that and do the same with
Jaws 8 to get down to a bare computer, but that seems like a bit of
nonsense.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Clifford

When he turns the computer on for the first time, will he need to go through

there anyway to avoid this process since JAWS is not yet installed?

Will JAWS 8.x work with VISTA Home Premium?

2008-12-17 Thread Hugh Megarry
I am sure there will be probs but I for one am looking forward to the 64 bit
jaws and being able to use more ram and I am sure that there will be
adjustments needed to this jaws just as there is to all programmes as time
goes on things will get better rather be hopeful and I think this v of jaws
I am using now jaws ten is better than nine and as from jaws 11 both 64 and
32 will be on the one disc and you can install the one you need then I am
happy enough mind you could do with a few little probs getting sorted out in
jaws 10 but they will come in time fingers crossed lol

Re: [JAWS-Users] The dreaded video intercept error!

2008-12-17 Thread cutolo.albert

Hello Tim,
The problem I had with my video intercept issue, was that the computer
refused too start at all. there was no windows sound, just the computers
ability too get too a certain point, and then immediately shut off. I
couldn't get the computer to go into narrator. Its verry frustratingfore a
blind person, when we don't have the ability too see anything which may
appear on the screen, and even more so, when you don't have a sighted person
near by too help you read what's going on.

Tell jaws not to start up on boot. then once your up running. Use narrator
to install the video intercept. Then you can start jaws after boot and
should work.

Clifford
