Hi Hugh
I'm not sure of the exact structure of IE 7, but try this:
While in IE, go to the tools menyu, then options.
Look for the advanced tab, then the setting you are looking for
might be found under multi-media.

No. If you get jaws 10 you will not need to do anything to jaws 8. Just

Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws upgrades

Hi All,

I've just bought a new laptop yesterday running windows vista home
premium. I've still got my copy of jaws 8, however it's build 423 on the
diskI believe, and the authorisation number will not work under vista. If
I purchase the upgrade for jaws 10 from my dealer, will I have to download
the final jaws 8 installation file, install that and then install the 10
upgrade? Also, if I want to download 10 rather than wait for the CD, how
long after I order the upgrade will it be applied to my authorisation?

Thanks for any help in advance,

2008-12-30 Thread Faisal

I believe you just need to enable java in your browser.
If you use firefox, go tools and options, and under content, check the
box that says enable java script.

If you use Internet explore seven,
click tools, options, under advance, scrole down to your version of java
and press space to enable it.

Click apply, then okay.

Ah that did it!

Thanks to all who helped. I never think to go to those verbosity settings. I
don't know what language Jaws thought it was reading, it certainly wasn't
French or any sort of Spanish I recognize. Must be something in the font
used or maybe some extraneous HTML coding?

Anyway, once told to ignore language the Site reads like it should.

Very weird!

Hi,

I have had a similar problem when using the staples.ca site. There is
something on the site which causes the problem. I have gotten around the
problem by creating a personalized web setting for this page which turns
language detection off.

This was using Jaws 9 under Windows XP.

I hope this helps,
Ryan

Good morning,

I am trying to use the Staples stationary store on line. For some reason,
anything off of the start page talks like it is in a foreign language. It
seems to read correctly with the Jaws cursor. This is not the French
edition, that too speaks in French as one might expect.

Using Jaws 9 under Vista.

Could some others please check this site for me and let me know if it
works

the same for them?

The opening page is fine, everything after that though.

The URL is

www.staples.ca

Maybe an Eloquence issue?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Annoying problem in IE

2008-12-30 Thread Russell J. Thomas, Jr
Part of this is due to the new features of JAWS 10 with respect to fields
where you type in data. I don't know if the new feature causes this or
whether the program does, but what you are describing is the fact that
Google, and other search boxes save prior searches; if you are not careful
with the new version of JAWS, it is easy to run an old search.

Go to Google and when you go into the search field, make sure that the line
you are on is blank. If it is not, use the backspace or delete key to clear
the line. Then type in your new search request and proceed with your search
as always.

Respectfully,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with Staples.ca please

2008-12-30 Thread Ryan MacIsaac

Could some others please check this site for me and let me know if it works
the same for them?

The opening page is fine, everything after that though.

The URL is

www.staples.ca

Maybe an Eloquence issue?

2008-12-30 Thread Elaine

yep, be far easier than trying to explain forms mode. *smiles*

jaws changes a lot of things so we can access them, so it makes a pc respond
differently to what sighted are used to.

Re: [JAWS-Users] sending attachments.

2008-12-30 Thread Flor Lynch
If it isn't JAWS10, you will need to have screen track virtual cursor
checked for her to see where JAWS is leading, and then probably to enable
forms mode if that is normally required for JAWS with the chat room. . If
JAWS is nevertheless a distraction, jumping around on the screen and such,
then unload it.

I'm just wondering if someone can help me. A friend of mine was on my
computer and she went on to the internet, but said to me that my keyboard
wasn't writing, or nothing was writing. Gosh that sounds confusing, but I
couldn't tell her why nothing was writing. Now if I haven't confused anyone,
could it be my keyboard, or is another of my settings wrong. Thanks.

hmmm, i sometimes hear german before a link but the link is in
english and shows as english in braille. and i have xp pro with a
litetalk external synthesizer. will have try it with a vista machine
and see how it does.

Legend has it that on Tuesday 12/30/2008 10:07 AM, Victor said:
Hi Dale, while the title of the page reads, both in English and
French, the rest of the page does not.

However, I did find that the page did say something funny while
scrolling down it.

It kept saying something like catalin.

I don't think this is the way Jaws spelled it, but that's what it
kept on saying.

In any case, I was able to enter on the office supplies link with no trouble.

If you want the link, I've pasted it below:

https://ssl.staples.ca/ENG/Zone/zone_postal.asp

I should note that I have my Jaws language detection preferences
turned off, so this might have something to do with your problem.

To turn off language detection, press insert+V and arrow down to the
text options, where it says Language detection on or off.

If on, press the spacebar to turn it off.

If it says that it's off, then tab to the close button and press the
spacebar to leave that dialog box.

Mind you, if this option is turned off, then you've got another
problem other than language detection.

Could some others please check this site for me and let me know if it
works the same for them?

The opening page is fine, everything after that though.

The URL is

www.staples.ca

Maybe an Eloquence issue?

I just accessed the Staples web site, and had no problems with JAWS speaking

its a Vista issue

My isp allows me to send quite big attachments, and I wouldn't have a clue

It might be something in your firewall then. Or antivirus? What sorts of
attachments are not being sent? or It could be that your ISP doesn't
allow

you send attachments of more than a limited size. Try sending a .txt file
as an attachment. Anyway, we'd need more info to resolve the problem. If
you get that message about security settings again, try to find which
program has focus at that point by pressing JAWSKey+t and/or alt and

Hello. I tried doing what was suggested, but nothing happened. These
computers, seem to have a mind of their own.

As you are apparently using outlook Express, you need to uncheck the "Do
not

allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potential be a virus"
checkbox, in the Tools, Options, Security tab. To get there, from the
message list, press shortcut ctrl-shift-o for Options, and shift-tab; then
right-arrow over to the Security tab control, and press tab key till you
come to this checkbox. Uncheck it.

Hello there. I can't send attachments at all now. But when I scroll down
in
the edit field, it says something like go to the security settings and
find

out how attachments are handled. I am not sure what that means and what
settings have been changed. It's only recently that I haven't been able to
send attachments. It's like I never wrote one. Nothing in my sent folder
to

indicate that a message has been sent, and nothing in the outbox either.
I'm not sure what the security settings should be, and because I don't
know,

I always tried to steer clear of it, but it's changed somehow. much
appreciate any help please.Kimber.
