[JAWS-Users] Deleating didgits from within a Word document

2009-03-17 Thread Victoria Vaughan
Hi, I am using Word 2007 with XP Professional and Jaws 10 professional. When I
use Control F, to find the various digits in a story, I type it in and press
Find next,
but it doesn't just stop at the next occurrence to allow me to delete it. I
tried using Escape, but that also does not work.

Are there any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Vicky

I use Avast! 4 Home Edition and it works quite well with Jaws once you turn
the skins for the simple user interface off.

Re: [JAWS-Users] anti-virus software compatible with JAWS

2009-03-17 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi Stewart,

There are a few different notes below. Read all the way through. The
website in the notes will help also. Hope this will answer your questions.
Take care. Mike

Subject: Avast website and set up directions

Hi, go to www.avast.com. Hope that helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Making Avast More Accessible

Hi all, please accept my apologies for the duplicate posts, however I feel
that the more people that get the below instructions, the better. So here we
go.

Hi all, do the following two things to make Avast more accessible.
Configuring Avast to not use the skins for the simple user interface:
1. Start Avast.
2. Wait for the memory test to be completed, then close the web page that
appears. You should now land on a dummy check box.
3. Press the applications key to open a context menu, down arrow to settings
and press enter. The Programme Settings dialogue box appears, with the
categories tree gaining focus.
4. Tab until you hear, enable skins for simple user interface check box
checked. Press space to uncheck it.
5. Tab to ok and press enter. You'll land back on the dummy check box.
6. Close and restart Avast. You should now be able to tab through the
controls in this programme.
Configuring JAWS to read lists in Avast:
1. Make sure that you're focused on the Avast Simple User Interface.
2. Press JAWS key 6 to open Configuration Manager.
3. Press enter to accept the New Configuration File dialogue box.
4. Press alt s to open the set options menu, then press a. The advanced
Options dialogue box appears.
5. Shift tab till you hear, Rely on MSAA for List Views check box not
checked. Press space to check it.
6. Press enter to activate the ok button.
7. Either press control s to save your configuration file immediately, or
press alt F4, pressing enter to activate the yes button on the confirm
dialogue box.
By doing these steps, you'll resolve an issue on some machines whereby JAWS
stops speaking when focused on any of the lists in Avast.

Hi, for a complete scan, check all local disks, check archives, move the
slider to 100% (thorough scan), and click start. Hope that helps.

Hi all, please don't worry about messages like that. It just means that
Avast couldn't scan the files in that archive because it was password
protected. What you can do is tab to the action button, hit space on that,
arrow to delete, press enter, ensure that delete file(s) permanently is
checked, activate the delete button, enter on that, and the results should
refresh with the new data. Don't worry; I don't think it deletes the
archives found to have been locked, but I'm not sure about that one. I'll
check this out. Hope that helps.

[JAWS-Users] Recommendation for address book program

2009-03-17 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I saw that there are several address book programs available on the Jaws-Users
web page. I need to collect addresses and phone numbers in an easy to use and
organized way. I would probably want the ability to create several different
address books for different types of contacts.

Can anyone recommend one of the programs on the Jaws-Users site or some other
program that would allow me to use Jaws and accomplish this task?

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] creating a replacement hot key for jaws 10

2009-03-17 Thread David Whitehead

Hello Allen;

ok, I'm assuming your new jaws, is jaws10 right?

1, desktop, and highlight the new jaws icon.

2, press alt+enter=properties/shortcut page.

3, now tab until you hear, shortcut key, hotkey none,
here you would type the shortcut you wish to use, example, alt+ctrl+0, then
press enter.

note, after doing this, you may want to check to see that the shortcut key
has been created.

if this doesn't work you can,

navigate to the start menu,

P=programs,

now, press the letter J until you hear the version of jaws you want to
create the shortcut for.

right arrow to open the sub-menu,
Up-arrow until you hear jaws,

press the applications key, up arrow until you hear, properties, press
enter.

again, tab until you hear, shortcut hotkey none. again type the desired
hotkey, now, tab apply, press enter.

now, tab back around, to see if your desired hotkey is their.

I hope this helps.

Hello Allen;

are you asking how to change a current hotkey for jaws?
or, are you wanting to create a hotkey, for another version of jaws.

[JAWS-Users] Remote instruction with JAWS

2009-03-17 Thread Ann byrne
The organization where I teach would like to find a way to avoid
travling to inaccessible places in order to instruct students with
JAWS. Using JAWS tandem requires an open phone call for the two-hour
teaching session, which would be very expensive overall. Is there a
way to communicate long-distance in order to instruct students in
Office 2003 with JAWS?

Thanks.
