Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws saying things twice
Hi Brian, Sorry, I am jumping in here. Sometimes Jaws randomly read a paragraph or paragraphs twice in a long Word documents whilst in the read all mode (Jaws key plus down arrow) Any thoughts how to fix this issue? Regards Waqas -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Brian Lee Sent: 02 April 2009 6:35 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws saying things twice Hello Sherry, You might check in verbosity settings to see if the new line indication has been set to something other than off. While in Microsoft Word, use insert+V to bring up the JAWS verbosity dialog, press the letter n to move to the new lines and paragraphs indication choice and if it is not set to off then use spacebar until you get that setting. Also, you might check in the configuration manager. Use JAWS key 6 to open Word's configuration manager. Use Alt+S to bring up the settings menu. use down arrow to the text processing choice and press enter key. Use shift-tab past the OK button and there should be three or four checkboxes shown that control the indication of new lines. If any are checked then remove the checkmarks from all relevant checkboxes by using spacebar. Use the tab key to move to the OK button and press enter key. Use CTRL+S to save changes and close the configuration manager. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] saving verbosity settings for OE
If you want to permanently change a setting, it should be changed in Configuration Manager. I know FS is not always consistent about this difference and I have no idea why it works on one PC and not another. To permanently change the echo setting do the following while in Outlook Express: 1. Press the JAWS + 6 (in the number row) to open Configuration Manager. 2. Press Alt + s to open the Set options menu. 3. Press the down arrow or the u key for User options. 4. Press Tab several times until you hear typing echo. Press up or down arrows until you hear characters and words radio button. 5. Press Tab until you get to the Ok button and press the space bar. 6. Press Control + s to save the new settings and then Alt + F4 to close Configuration Manager. After your message, I did some exploring on my own. I think what you suggest will likely work for me. I won't be able to confirm until I can try it at home though. I looked in the Accessories menu and found the Scanning and Camera Wizard. It was easy to follow the prompts to set the type of file and where to save the scanned files. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws saying things twice
Hello Waqas, I am certainly not sure why a paragraph of text is being read to you twice while in the SayAll mode. However, here are a few suggestions that you might want to check out: First, if you have a task pane active then try using the SayAll after turning the task pane off. Use CTRL+F1 to turn on or off the task pane. If I remember correctly, (as I am not at a system right now with Word 2003 installed), CTRL+F1 is the keystroke to use. Otherwise, go under the view menu and use down arrow to the task pane choice. If it is checked then press the enter key to close the task pane. Check to see if a toolbar that you don't need to use is active. Go under the view menu and into the toolbars submenu. Use down arrow and if you find a toolbar that you are not using that is checked then press the enter key to remove it from the screen. Of course, leave the standard and formatting toolbars active. Make sure the program and document are maximized. Use Alt+spacebar and press the letter x to maximize the program window, and use Alt key with the dash key followed by X to maximize a document window. Check to see if a process might be interfering. You might check the system tray first to see if there are any programs wanting to update that might be notifying you that an update is available. I worked on a system a while ago that had a MSN toolbar update notification that was interfering with a Word document window. It wasn't in the system tray, but when I routed JAWS to PC and used down arrow I found the top of the reminder window and used a mouse click simulation on the close button. Make sure screen echo is set to highlighted. use JAWS key with the letter s to switch between different screen echo settings. The above are possible factors that could contribute to JAWS losing or changing focus while in the SayAll mode. At one time, Word recognized paragraphs better than sentences and using a different SayAll setting resolved some issues. You might want to go into verbosity with JAWS key V and press the letter s until you get to the SayAll options. If the level is collapsed then use right arrow key to open it and down arrow to the SayAll items. With focus on the SayAll reads by choice use spacebar to move between the various choices. Use enter key to accept a change and close the dialog box. Try the different settings to see if one might work better for you. You might want to try changing punctuation level as well to see if SayAll works better with a different choice. use JAWS key V for verbosity, press the letter p until you hear the punctuation choice, and then press spacebar to change between the options. Sometimes a different punctuation level will affect the way SayAll works. There are other possibilities such as your type of display and settings, synthesizer being used, etc. that might cause SayAll to lose focus, but the above are some things you might want to try out. Take care. [JAWS-Users] Accessing a window with in a screen
Hi My online college has a system where a person accesses their records through a web page. Very handy accept that when I open this web page the information shows up in a separate window on my screen. I end up using the JAWS cursor to read the information. It would be preferable to get the PC cursor in to this window so I could interact with the data. Routing PC to JAWS had no affect. I did a JAWS key with F 10 and nothing came up on that list either. Any ideas on how to access this data window would be appreciated. I am using IE 8 and or Fire Fox, the latest version of JAWS, and vista home addition 32 bit. Thanks in advance for your help. (they know about it now, though.) offering CAPTCHA in audio is only a half-way solution, as it doesn't account for deaf- and hard-of-hearing-blind users. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 10.0.1142 update was posted March 30th
Hi Grant, Your issue with the control+alt+down arrow happens with me on occasion also, but not only on Gmail web pages, also on any page utilizing a data table. I just get to a spot, and it won't go down any further. On some occasions, if I try to go up, it won't go either, or left or right, so I'm not sure what the problem is, as I have checked all my settings and just attributed it to a bug with Jaws. Just so you know that I am able to duplicate it on my system running Jaws 10, latest build, Windows XP Home and IE 7. [JAWS-Users] Autoforms and jfw 10 latest update
Before jfw 10 (latest update), when I went to do a google search, after keying my search terms and tapping the tab key, forms mode kicked off and I was on the search button. Now, however, when I hit the tab key, I land on the i'm feeling lucky button. However, when I hit the down arrow, I wind up where I want to be, on the search button. What's really supposed to happen? Is this a bug? Thanks in advance. A drunken man's words are a sober man's thoughts. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws saying things twice
Hi Brioan, Well, I have also found the announcement of new lines when navigating with up or down arrow in Word more than annoying. In my case, I had all the relevant checkboxes for line announcement unchecked, yet Jaws still said new line. Hey, I know that, I pressed down arrow. Smile. The only solution I found was to go into Speech and Sounds manager, and under the miscellaneous tab, there was a choice to indicate new lines with a sound. I chose the quietest little sound I could find and now I don't even notice it. For me, this problem started with Jaws 9 and as far as I know is still there. starteemke Jean - Original Message - From: Brian Lee brianl...@charter.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, April 01, 2009 11:35 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws saying things twice Hello Sherry, You might check in verbosity settings to see if the new line indication has been set to something other than off. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessibility of Omnipage 16
Clifford, Details will probably differ according to the scanning software on your pc, but with my epson 2580, it's as follows: Of course, your scanner's drivers must be installed for this to work. Go into the programs submenu, usually reachable by pressing p from start menu. Then select epson scan [or relevant] sub menu and enter. Enter on first option: Epson scan. Select your installed scanner if it's not already selected, tab to OK and enter. Then I seem to lose focus, but you should land on, or switch to the window entitled: file save settings. I think the default save file location is my pictures, but press the browse button to check or change and enter on ok. Tab through the options and adjust them as needed. Where it says filename prefix, it's the title you want for the document. The number spinbox is probably sequencial pages, but I'm not sure. Image format type, I was told jpg is good quality but smaller size than pdf, but this is up to one's choice. The open image folder after scanning, is helpful if one has sighted assistance to check whether the scan was accurately performed. Confirm with OK. I've used this method to scan certificates and court orders and had a reliable sighted person checking the accuracy of the scans. This method renders better accuracy than the image scan option with exact view kept, in Openbook 7.02.
