Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with notepad and wordpad when using the findcommand
Hello Greg, That means that the word or string you were looking for was not found, but unfortunately it's not announced. Even if the word is found, it doesn't say so, it just stops at the relevant line and you have to press escape to read the result. The repeat find and f3 key for that, doesn't work in notepad. I haven't tried wordpad for that yet. When I hit control + f to enter the find dialogue it will come up fine. Now when I enter the word I wish to find and press enter the dialogue box goes away and nothing happens. When I press F3 to do a forward find it gives me some kind of error like: unknown function call forward find and some other words I did not quite catch. Also whenever I try to open another one of JAWS dialogue boxes it tells me that I can only have one open dialogue box open at a time. Re: [JAWS-Users] How do i: Turn off JAWS via keyboard?
Hello David, There's also another way to turn speech off, but still have the other jaws functions. If you press the jaws key, or long insert, together with control and s you're prompted to select a synthesizer and one of the options is "no speech". You could either press the relevant letter or navigate to the option with your arrows and just press enter. To get speech back, just press control with insert with s again and type e and enter, if using eloquence. If you use jaws 10 it's a bit more intricate, as then you choose among all the speech profiles and if you haven't changed it, eloquence there would probably be the default, so you'd choose d instead. This setting works very well when one for instance, wants to change to a different synthesizer for another language and I use it on a daily basis to read afrikaans with the espeak afrikaans synthesizer. Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with notepad and wordpad when using the findcommand
With Notepad and Wordpad, though, find doesn't work as smoothly as with Word. You invoke find and hit enter. Then you have to escape to read where the command has put you. Repeat find doesn't work in these programs. You have to do control-f again and hit enter, then escape out of the dialog to read the line you have found. I guess that's why Wordpad and Notepad are free and Word costs money. Lol. At 08:22 PM 5/26/2009, you wrote: Hello Greg, The unknown function error indicates a problem with a script. Re: [JAWS-Users] Word 2003
Hi Sherri, Shift+F7 is the default hotkey for activating the Thesaurus in Word 2003. You should be at the beginning of a word or have a word selected when you use the hotkey. When the key combination is used focus moves into a separate pane. You can use tab key to the meanings and when you find the one you want to use press the application key. In the context menu will be a replace choice. You can then use F6 to move back to the main document pane. CTRL+F1 closes the task pane. I am not at a system with Word 2003 right now, but the above is pretty close if my memory serves me right. Take care. I find an alternative way to find replacement word just like the way we did it in Word XP (2002). The steps to do so is below: 1. Open Word 2003 2. Go to tools (Alt+T) and arrow down to customize and press enter 3. You will be in the Commands page. Arrow down to the category "all commands" 4. Tab once. Quickly press the letters t o o to get to the beginning of the tools category 5. Page down until you find "tools thesaurus" Note: this is the one you want, not tools ThesaurusRR which is the one used for Word 2003 6. Tab to the keyboard button and press enter 7. You will be in the customize keyboard category. Arrow down to tools and tab once to "all commands" 8. Again quickly type the letters t o o to get to tools and page down until you find tools thesaurus 9. Tab once and you should hear "current keys no selected item" . 10. Tab and enter new short-cut key. I have shift+F9 as my keys for this command 11. Tab to the close button and press enter. The change will be saved in normal.doc You should be back at the tools thesaurus category where you previously press the keyboard button . Tab over to close and press enter. Now you can press shift+F9 on a word in Word 2003 and you will have the familiar Thesaurus that we had in Office XP (2002) Write me if you have any problems or questions. Since I have made this change, I have not used Shift+F7 anymore even though that is still available. Re: [JAWS-Users] a question regarding the identification of thesecurity codes in yahoo chat rooms
Hi, For that, there are now two alternative solutions. One is to use the WebVisum extension with Firefox, and only with Firefox, from www.webvisum.com/ and you can request an invitation from there to be sent to your valid email address so that you can sign up, verifying that you are a legitimate user. It has keystrokes for various things - such as ctrl-alt-6 for acquiring the CAPTCHA image and then sending it to WebVisum for analysis. the solution is then copied to your clipboard so that you can paste it into the edit box. the ssecond alternative now, for any browser - since it is 100% human - is to use the Solona CAPTCHA serbvice, from www.solona.net/ and you then registerer. Read and note the instructions, which seem complex but are not really. It's alll explained there at www.solona.net and the links such as "learn" and "how it works". Each of these solutions has its pros and cons. When WebVisum can work, for the less complex CAPTCHAs, it's faster. Human intervention is necessary, however, for the more complex images that are now appearing with more frequency. Happily, apart from being confounded by CAPTCHAs in themselves, JAWS will read the solutions. - Original Message - From: "soner çoban" To: Sent: Tuesday, May 26, 2009 8:30 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] a question regarding the identification of thesecurity codes in yahoo chat rooms Hello, as being understood from the subject line, i would like to ask how i can enter the security codes in yahoo chat rooms to the edit box, since Jaws cant recognize it, and as long as i dont enter, the code, i cant log in the room. Estelita, I don't know if you can override the short-cut key that was assigned to Word 2003 ThesaurusRR . You can try it and see if the short-cut key can be used. I preferably wanted to keep the original short-cut key for anyone else that may use my PC. That's my opinion. [JAWS-Users] Problem with notepad and wordpad when using the find command
Hello all, I have a problem when trying to use the find command in notepad or wordpad. When I then close the program and go back to my desktop it says DESKTOP Dialogue instead of the normal DESKTOP. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try to fix this? Re: [JAWS-Users] Word 2003
Hi Vicki and Estelita, Like you, I have a hard time trying to find a replacement word in Word 2003 Thesaurus. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not speaking accented letters
Thanks Flor! I did make the change and when reading letter by letter, I did get the ansi value. I'll play around with the dictionary. It was strange because it read fine in Jaws 9. Also, make the change through the config manager that I suggested. On the accented character, while still reading with Access32, press the numpad5 key three times on an accented character, to hear its ANSI value or its hexadecimal code or its Unicode value - all of which settings, and more, can be found in the Config manager by exploring the options there. You can also make JAWS dictionary entries for such characters, so that they will be pronounced by your favoured synthesizer wherever they occur. Different speech synthesizers also have their own inbuilt pronunciation dictionaries. However, it is not possible to modify these with JAWS; thus the reason for using the JAWS dictionary utility to achieve desired effects where they can't be reliably got in another way. - Original Message - From: "Blackwell, Clifford" To: Sent: Friday, May 22, 2009 3:14 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not speaking accented letters I'm using Dectalk Access 32. To change this, go into the configuration manager, Set Options, Symbols & Graphics, and on the first tab change the value perhaps to 'also say word'. You ought also to specify what synthesizer you are using. - Original Message - >From: "Blackwell, Clifford" To: Sent: Thursday, May 21, 2009 10:50 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not recognising accented letters I recently upgraded to Jaws 10.0.1142 on a Windows XP pro computer. Re: [JAWS-Users] MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 SELECTING TABLES
Hello Marvin, When you insert a table in Word 2007 there are two new tabs added to the ribbon, one is the design tab and the other the layout tab. The first button on the lower part of the ribbon for the layout tab is the select button. The quick keys to use are Alt followed by J followed by L followed by K. Take care.
