[JAWS-Users] popping sounds in eloquence

2009-06-20 Thread Andrew Head
Hi all,
Until recently I had my voice rate of eloquence set at 50 percent. However, I
plan to slowly speed it up so I can eventually understand it at 100 percent.
However, one little thing, I had it at 80, but decided for now that was too
fast and slowed it down to 75. but at both speeds I hear more popping sounds as
eloquence reads things. is this just how things are something I'll have to get
used too?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Word count short Cut Key

2009-06-20 Thread Justin Williams
I just tested it, and alt t w works, but alt r w words just the same, and it
is the w007 way of doing it. The word count is located on the review tab.
Alt t does not take you anyware except to the home tab because by it's self,
it is not a viable keystroke. But, alt t w works. It's just a hold over
from 2003. The 1003 menu bar commands don't work on their own. They work
only in conjunction with another keystroke such as alt t then w. Well, all
of them except alt f. that takes you to the office button. Use either
method, which ever works.

You sure you meant alt-r, and not alt-t? Alt-t, w is (or was) the usual
shortcut, I think. it may depend on the version of word. With Word XP (and

below, it's alt-t, w.

Hi - ^m (carat M) is the code for a hard page break, the ^ (carat) character
being created with shift plus 6 on the number row.

use search and replace in word and put ^m in the find field and then tab to
the replace field and press the delete to remove whatever is already in the
box so that you are replacing the ^m code with nothing. Do a replace all
with alt-A and they'll be gonne

Another useful carat code is ^p (carat p) for a hard return - I use it to
get rid of single erroneous line breaks in text copied from the Internet.
To do this, I first replace ^p^p with the # character to preserve any proper
paragraph breaks, then replace ^p with nothing, then replace the # character
with ^p^p again. This cleans up most text, although it can cause problems
with lists! I just use a simple word macro to run the three replacements as
I do it so often.

The last useful carat code I use is ^t, which is for the tab character. I
use K1000 and scan a lot of educational psychology reports that are
typically 20 pages-ish in length and K1000 seems to put lots of tabs into
them. I just replace ^t with a space so that I know what I'm dealing with
without having to turn the reveal codes on and slog through the document.

Hope that helps, and if anyone knows somewhere all the carat codes are
listed, I would appreciate a pointer as they are so useful!

All the best,
Barry G

[JAWS-Users] Live Messinger

2009-06-20 Thread graham smith
HI

Currently useing 8.1 with XP and latest Jaws 10 version.

Are later versions any better?

My main problem is the announcements of new messages over and over again which
is really annoying. We hav discussed this before and I dont believe anyone has
come up with a solution. Just wondering if later versions of messiniger would
fix it.

thanks

Graham

Re: [JAWS-Users] Word formatting question

2009-06-20 Thread Barry G

All the best,
Barry G

Re: [JAWS-Users] I E 8

2009-06-20 Thread Gerald Levy

Unfortunately, JAWS 8 does not work with IE 8. The best thing to do is to
roll back to IE 7 by removing IE 8 using the Add/Remove Programs option on
the Control Panel.

Re: [JAWS-Users] anybody familiar with jaws and ebay

2009-06-20 Thread Elaine

hi

I use jaws with ebay and have never seen a capture box.

admitted sometimes I have to play with the jaws cursor to click on items
within the feedback forum, but once you know how to handle that well...it's
easy.

Re: [JAWS-Users] auto forms mode

2009-06-20 Thread Flor Lynch
I don't necessarily want JAWS to stop reading when it encounters an edit
field starting a form; and I don't always want to edit, either.

Hi everyone,

Why do some of you dislike using auto forms mode?

Just curious.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and Notetab help please

2009-06-20 Thread Ibby Karbhari
Hi Folks,
Please can anyone help with this one?
When using Notetab JAWS speech is fine. However the Braille display
the cursor always starts off in colomn 29 where as I would like it to
start in colomn 1.
This is the same for all versions of JAWS from 4-10.

Is there a change I can make, or is it a case of someone needing to
write some new scripts.

Look forward to any help you can offer.

Kindest Regards,
Ibby Karbhari
