Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 11 security update

one thing i would like to know if what did you guys fix in the
security update? usually there are new features/fixes but all it says
is security update. just really curious.

Hi List,

Just to clarify, if you have downloaded and installed the JAWS 11
prior to October 23rd at 2:30 PM EST, then you can check for updates
in the Help Menu now, and you can get this update in that fashion.
If you're not sure you need it, you can just verify the version of
JAWS you have installed now in the about box, from the Help menu also.

The current relase with the security update included, is 11.0.734
which is also the only version available on the Download page now.
So, if you install from the web today for the first time, you are
all set. Also, I wanted to let you all know that the DVD that is
going to be shipping has been delayed a few days to make certain it
contains this newer build which contains the Security update. The
SMA shipments will start to go out by Thursday, October 29 once they
clear our testing lab and complete the production process. So anyone
who is installing from the DVD on 32 bit or 64 bit Windows should
continue to check for updates as always, but I wanted to be clear
that the security update is already included on your DVD.

If you go to the Help menu of JAWS and hit enter, you then down-
arrow to,
"Check for Updates" and hit enter. You then hit the spacebar on the
item

which will probably be at the top and says security update for JAWS
11.0.734. After you check it, you have to tab over to ok and hit the
spacebar. It will then start to download update with the clicking
sound.

You will have two more OK buttons, the last one being to restart your
computer.

I would go under help in jaws, click on training, arrow down to what I want

that

should fix the problem. I placed the script from 9 in to version 10 and it

[JAWS-Users] issue with Jaws For Windows 10.5

2009-10-25 Thread Mich
Hi I am poasting this on behaff of a friend. From Jonathan Manno

jon...@hotmail.com

hi Mich:
I was wondering if you could, perhaps, post this to a jaws users list.
I recently upgraded from using Jaws 7.0 to Jaws 10.5
I'm having a couple of issues with it, that, if I can't get resolved, would
compell me to stay with Jaws 7 for now.
Firstly I can't figure out how, or where the the command for announcing the
last contact that signed in using Windows Live Messenger would be.
I know in Jaws 7 it is control plus alt plus F12, and I was hoping that I could
change it in Jaws 10.
I looked under keyboard manager, and also script manager but can't seam to find
it in the Windows Live list of keyboard commands.
Also another issue I am having is, when arrowing through lets say, the desk
top, or Windows live messenger itself, the response time with Jaws 10, seams
a bit slower.
Meaning that it takes a fraction of a second longer to announce the contacts
names, and sometime says "contact" before the persons name.
I've also noticed this delay when alt tabbing.
I'd really like to fully switch over to Jaws 10, but would like to get these
problems fixed first.
I appreciate your help in this matter.
regards
Jonathan

Hi,

Nope. I think there were some security issues in some of the JAWS
managers that allowed access to all files and folders regardless of if a
user was logged into the system or not.

Thanks to FS for getting this out there. I assume this addresses Tyler
Spivey's widely publicized security concern regarding one's ability to
pull up a command prompt with full administrative privileges from
within the settings packager.

This serves as a reminder to everyone that even if User Account
Control is enabled, some applications will still have administrative
privileges by default. Special manifests can be installed serving
precisely this purpose.

[JAWS-Users] How do I dismiss the Winamp Update message?

I have Winamp to play MP3 files and such. When I click on a file Winamp plays
the file alright but I cannot get to the application to start and stop or pause
or any of that because of this darn New Version message which will not be
dismissed. ALT-F4 doesn't kill it, there isn't a close option on the
Applications menu, there isn't a File menu or any other with a Close option,
there doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of it but to reboot. Second time in
a given day it doesn't appear and I can go to the application and use the
functions.

This really is Malware, an application which takes charge and will not be
terminated.

So far as I can tell, the only advantage to having the new update might be to
get rid of this notice and of course to fill up my computer with album art I
suppose.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Can you close it with control plus F4 or control tab to the main Winamp

Also if it is the update prompt I'm thinking of you can go to General under

Subject: [JAWS-Users] How do I dismiss the Winamp Update message?

I have Winamp to play MP3 files and such. When I click on a file Winamp
plays the file alright but I cannot get to the application to start and
stop or pause or any of that because of this darn New Version message which
will not be dismissed. ALT-F4 doesn't kill it, there isn't a close option
on the Applications menu, there isn't a File menu or any other with a Close
option, there doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of it but to reboot.
Second time in a given day it doesn't appear and I can go to the
application and use the functions.

This really is Malware, an application which takes charge and will not be
terminated.

So far as I can tell, the only advantage to having the new update might be
to get rid of this notice and of course to fill up my computer with album
art I suppose.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Hi Dale,
Can you close it with control plus F4 or control tab to the main Winamp
window?
Also if it is the update prompt I'm thinking of you can go to General
under

Preferences (control plus p followed by g until you hear "General
Preferences" and tab through and look for "Check for new versions of
Winamp

at startup " and uncheck this box.

Jon

I hope that message apears in a form of dialog box. Just tab to no button
and hit enter key. The dialog box will disappear and your current position
will be on winamp and you will be able to close, pause and perform other
functions with the different commands assigned to that application.
