[JAWS-Users] JAWS 11 Speaking Numbers
I am having a problem with JAWS 11 speaking numbers incorrectly. For instance, in the Bible text printed below from James 1, JAWS will not read the numbers the way they are supposed to be. Here is an example of what I am hearing: For verses 13-15, instead of JAWS saying thirteen-fifteen, it says one three dash fifteen. For 16-18, JAWS says one six dash eighteen. For 19-21, JAWS says one nine dash twenty one...and so on. JAWS seems to pronounce the number on the right side of the dash correctly, but is announcing them as single numbers on the left. Does this make any sense to anyone? If so, please tell me how I can fix this problem. Now, here is the text that I was talking about. James 1 1I, James, am a slave of God and the Master Jesus, writing to the twelve tribes scattered to Kingdom Come: Hello! Faith Under Pressure 2-4Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don't try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. 5-8If you don't know what you're doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You'll get his help, and won't be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who "worry their prayers" are like wind-whipped waves. Don't think you're going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open. 9-11When down-and-outers get a break, cheer! And when the arrogant rich are brought down to size, cheer! Prosperity is as short-lived as a wildflower, so don't ever count on it. You know that as soon as the sun rises, pouring down its scorching heat, the flower withers. Its petals wilt and, before you know it, that beautiful face is a barren stem. Well, that's a picture of the "prosperous life." At the very moment everyone is looking on in admiration, it fades away to nothing. 12Anyone who meets a testing challenge head-on and manages to stick it out is mighty fortunate. For such persons loyally in love with God, the reward is life and more life. 13-15Don't let anyone under pressure to give in to evil say, "God is trying to trip me up." God is impervious to evil, and puts evil in no one's way. The temptation to give in to evil comes from us and only us. We have no one to blame but the leering, seducing flare-up of our own lust. Lust gets pregnant, and has a baby: sin! Sin grows up to adulthood, and becomes a real killer. 16-18So, my very dear friends, don't get thrown off course. Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures. Act on What You Hear 19-21Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God's righteousness doesn't grow from human anger. So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage. In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life. 22-24Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don't act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like. 25But whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God-the free life!-even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person will find delight and affirmation in the action. 26-27Anyone who sets himself up as "religious" by talking a good game is self-deceived. This kind of religion is hot air and only hot air. Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world. James 1 1I, James, am a slave of God and the Master Jesus, writing to the twelve tribes scattered to Kingdom Come: Hello! Faith Under Pressure 2-4Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. Re: [JAWS-Users] window 7 and vista
Hi There: If you are going to buy a new laptop, then definitely go with windows 7 premium. It is a superior OS over windows vista. Lets put it this way! A lot of people stayed with windows XP because vista was just awful. Now that Windows 7 is out, xP users are flocking to windows 7. Windows 7 is already out selling vista in the same period of time as vista. Also, don't forget Windows 7 has fixed a lot of problems that vista still has. Not updating to windows 7, is like not taking the next service pack upgrade to vista. I just want to get some opinions concerning the two. I hear that window seven is just an extention of vista, what did this person say? Window seven is the sister program of vista. I'm thinking about purchasing a new laptop but if W seven is not much of a difference from vista then I will just stick w/what I have.Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. Re: [JAWS-Users] Word help please
Hi, Thanks Mike. That is a solution, but I was hoping that Word could just continually add to a spelling list for me, each time I confirmed that I had had to accept a spelling correction. You would think that Word could be alerted to do this, each time the "Alt C" was used. [JAWS-Users] jaws 11 and reading websites
hi. do you find with jaws 11. on some web sites it does not read really well. like in jaws 10. for example http://www.yourtv.com.au and http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/blindgeeks i set the documentation presentation to simple layout . set the tables screen layout to none. but on the following sites. and set my punctuation to all. it reads the vertical bar. which is quite annoying. and set my reading preferences in the jaws default configuration manager to paragraph. if i try say on the tv site, once i click the rest of day button. this is another real annoying thing. in jaws 10 i could hit the b key, and then arrow to the different buttons. but in jaws 11. the buttons just reads all the different options on one button. so have to arrow to say rest of day and left mouse click. did not have to do this in jaws 10. and if i try say go to the table and press t for table. and arrow say the first channel is abc 1. if i try to read using control down arrow. instead of reading the first links and item, it skips past right it and goes to the next channel which is sect seven here in tas. any one found this annoying. so how to fix it with not having to switch back to jaws 10, then have to switch back to jaws 11. thought the new version was supposed to make this a whole lot easier for us vips. so how to fix this. have reported this to freedom scientific have not got a response back. any one experienced these annoying problems with jaws 11 and reading web pages. i am using jaws 11.0.734u, internet explorer 7, windows vista home premium. There is an arrangement that, if people happen to purchase the last version in the month before the release of the next version, then they get the next version free. Hello Al, I noticed after posting my message that I gave the wrong keystroke. I mentioned it again later in the message and gave it correctly that time, but the keystroke is Alt+shift+L. It is not alt+JAWS Key+L as I wrote at the beginning of the message. Sorry for giving the wrong keystroke. It is a JAWS keystroke that has been around for quite some time to be used with MS Word. No, sorry, What I mean is that I tend to miss the same words again and again. What I would like to be able to do, is to have Word, every time I need to use "Alt C", to accept a spelling correction, for that word to be put in a spelling list. I could then keep rereading them, until I have memorized the correct spelling. Re: [JAWS-Users] Captures
Hi sue, On some websites there is a page that shows an image. A person must type the letters and numbers from the image in an edit box before the website will let you in. HotMail is one of these. The image can not be read by most screen readers. The image keeps spamming software from having access to the site. It works well but is hard on blind people. Re: [JAWS-Users] Captures
That's why it's a good idea to fall back on Solona for those situations when Webvisum doesn't work. Because Solona relies on human operators to solve captchas rather than proprietary software like Webvisum, the results are more likely to be accurate. I usually try Webvisum first, and if it fails to successfully solve a captcha, I then try Solona, which almost always succeeds when Webvisum fails. Pretty cool, I didn't know this but I don't use word heavily only every now and again. Alt+Shift+L works fine. Use Alt+JAWS key+L to list misspellings in Microsoft Word. You can use up and down arrow keys in the list and press enter key on any of the misspelled words to move the cursor to the beginning of the word. You need to use Alt+shift+L to list the words again after making a correction. If you don't make many errors in spelling in a document then this can be a quick way to check without using the Word spell checker. Take care.
