Re: [JAWS-Users] Serious problems when reading .txt files
Seasons greetings, My name is Fred, and I have been a Jaws users member for a little over a year or so. When I first started out I posted an email introducing myself to everyone. One of the responses I received was from a person name Greg and he indicated that he was from Hamilton Ohio which is where I'm from also. Are you the same Greg? If so email me back and let me know. Thanks! -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Greg Sent: Sunday, December 06, 2009 8:40 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Serious problems when reading .txt files Hello all, I am running JAWS 11 on an acer netbook with windows7 starter edition. When I am trying to read the text in a .txt file JAWS does not read it write. As I move forward through the document it will get to a line of text and say blank like there is nothing there. Also when I try to go back through a text document it is as if the text has disappeared. I have tried using notepad, as well as akel pad, and have the same problem with both. Now, when I try to open the documents in Microsoft word it is like there is no text at all. Any suggestions on what might be causing these problems and what to try to fix it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Greg W. Re: [JAWS-Users] pdf
Hi, can you make a pdf file in to a mp3 if so how Omnipage can do an optical character recognition and export the resulting text via scansoft realspeak voices to wave mono 22khz 16bit. Or you could use say all and use a loop back cable from your headphone jack to the input jack of your soundcard. Cdex does a good job in capturing the sound and converting it to mp3. That only works if you can read the pdf without cptical character recognition. I use dbpoweramp to convert to mp3. Lame as standallone is free or you could use cdex. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 10 won't read Word 2007 Key Tips
I can't seem to get JAWS 10 to read the Word 2007 "key tips" (the new version of Tool Tips to display shortcut keys). JAWS 11 reads them without modification. I was wondering if there is some way to get JAWS 10 to read them? For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[JAWS-Users] Thunderbird 3
Hello all, Thunderbird 3 was released a few days ago. It works brilliantly with JAWS 11 at my end, not sure about earlier versions. You can get it from www.mozilla.com. David I believe you can upload this on your site as it's free to download and use. Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype versions prefered with JAWS
Hey Chris, Could you please give me the steps to do that? Thanks I tried to find out how to do that, but no luck.> Patti Yes they do. You must first tell Skype to display the alerts in the notification tray. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Patti Sent: 08 December 2009 19:28 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype versions prefered with JAWS Does these script tell who is calling you. I have skype 3.8, jaws 10 home, and windows XP. Patti If the speaking the menu names when menus are activated in VMware is important to you, try the scripts I wrote at the web page below. Since the menus are your only complaint, you must be using the latest Player 3.0. VMware is making vast improvements in accessibility of their products recently. The scripts package will support the following applications: - Player 3.0 (free) - Player 2.5 - Workstation 6.5 or 7.0 - Server 1.0.5 Most users find that the scripts are not necessary for Player 3.0 since it is so accessible, but feel free to download the self installing package and install. http://mysite.verizon.net/marangs/VMware.html Don Marang -- From: "Keith Hinton" Sent: Monday, December 07, 2009 11:08 PM To: "jaws-users-list" Subject: [JAWS-Users] Skype versions prefered with JAWS Freedom Scientific is specifically supporting, or so it would seem, Skype 4. However, even with Doug Lee's scripts, I noticed the following issues. First: After making sure you are online and physically connected to the Internet, start up Skype, and configure it. Even after enableing extended keyboared navigation, and pressing enteer, you will find that Skype, for whatever reason, doesn't speak if you use the menu bar key witch is in the vast majority of cases Alt. JAWS only speaks, "Menu bar." And, "Leaveing menu bar." I have ben forced to memorize (as I refuse to JAWS cursor around in Skype four) Shortcuts may be helpful, and are as follows. Note: You can apply this to programs such as VMware workstation as well, with JAWS (similar situation) speaks activated menus just fine, but not the menus themselves, so it does pay to really learn shortcuts) because JAWS cursoring to a menu is limited. Alt+S, Skype. Alt+C, Contacts. Alt+A (Not sure why) Call menu. Alt+V, View Menu. Alt+T, Tools Menu. Alt+H, Help Menu. Try those keystrokes, and let me know. P.s. I have a laptop computer, and cannot recall what the command is to read the hotkey for a specific control, and this box doesn't have a number pad on it. Thanks. Re: [JAWS-Users] lost focus message
No, that doesn't work when JAWS has truly lost focus. You then need to bring up the desktop (windows+m) and proceed (alt-tab) from there. - Original Message - From: "Justin Williams" To: Sent: Monday, December 07, 2009 11:58 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] lost focus message I don't know; for I do not have jaws 11, but when that happens, just alt tab and then shift alt tab back to where you are. [JAWS-Users] Setting up Windows Explorer for Windows 7
Hi everyone, I am running Jaws 11 and Windows 7. I have been looking for some information for setting up Windows Explorer. I have the information from the Daisy book for Vista, however, I noticed that Windows Explorer in 7 is a little different. I haven't been able to find anything on the FS Site. Matthew sent some good information about setting up a list view for all folders. I am wondering if this would apply here.
