[JAWS-Users] scripts and/or making jaws speak
Earlier I asked about making jaws speak menus in total recorder v8 better. However, this is probably a more general issue related to just about any app that uses the alt letter combination to bring up menus. So I am thinking this could be a scripts issue or reclass issue etc etc etc to making jaws speak better within an application. Again, where can I look to learn more about how to do this? Thanks. Re: [JAWS-Users] Fw: jaws and total recorder version 8
I don't find Total Recorder as speech-friendly as earlier versions. However, if you to to the Settings menu, go into Recording Options and Parameters, or something like that. In that large dialogue, you can choose where it pulls the recording from. E.g., line in, microphone, etc. If you choose those, you should be fine. If you have it on sound board, you'll record everything from the sound board including Jaws. If you have two sound cards, you could have Jaws going to one, and your recordings being made off the other. That way, it wouldn't pick up Jaws because it would take only the digital stream from the sound card. - Original Message - From: "Leonard Morris" To: Sent: Monday, January 04, 2010 1:27 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Fw: jaws and total recorder version 8 I have not installed the latest version of total recorder but I had similar issues with the screen reader being voiced in prior versions after pressing record. The only thing I could do was uninstall and reinstall which seemed to fix the problem. A temporary work around if you don't want to uninstall/reinstall, is to create a hot key to silence speech while in an application. I have to use this fix with GoldWave if I don't want Jaws talking when I press record. [JAWS-Users] Adobe 9 reading options
Using latest JAWS and Adobe9, I cannot tell whether changes in the reading order are taking effect or not. This doc seems to come up with the tags reading order selected and does not present me with the reading order dialog. When I change the order to "left to right, top to bottom" I cannot detect any change. When I recheck the document menu for the reading order, it still seems to be set to tagged reading order. I am pretty lost with this Adobe9 version. (With Adobe7, the doc comes up in "left to right, top to bottom" and looks better.) Is there a way to get the reading preferences dialog to come up automatically in Adobe9? And, how or where can I go to verify that the reading order has changed? Thanks for any assist. What is the operating system for your old laptop? Not all windows versions are supported by Jaws 10. Basically older versions of windows require older versions of Jaws. Once you place something in the public folder hit your applications key on it locally and you will find something like copy link or the like. [JAWS-Users] Question about Dropbox
Hi all, I just recently learned about this file backup and sharing service and it sounds pretty interesting. I've put a folder into the public folder so that I could share it, but I keep getting a message saying, "You can't share this folder." Can someone make any suggestions about what I need to do? Re: [JAWS-Users] CBOE Options Tutorial
Hi Brian, Works very well. Now I can read the tutorial. I never knew what anchor meant. Sometimes when I think I am in an edit field and type "a" Jaws states no anchors found in field or something like that. Ann - Original Message - From: "Brian Lee" To: Sent: Monday, January 04, 2010 7:58 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] CBOE Options Tutorial Hi Ann, If you use down arrow a couple times from the top of each page, (go to the top by using CTRL+home), you will hear the subject of the page. Pressing the letter "N" either from the top of each page or from the subject near the top will move focus right under the table and right to the pertinent information. I might suggest that you put a placemarker at the position of the "next" link, which is an image link. If you do that then you will just need to press the letter "K" to move directly to the "next" button and you can press enter key on the "next" button. This will take a minute or two on the first page but will prove helpful on all subsequent pages. Here is how to do it: 1.Find the "images/next" button. You can use insert+F7 to list links, press the end key to move to the bottom of the list and then up arrow to the "images/next" link. Use tab key to the "move to link" choice and press enter key. 2.Use shift+CTRL+K to bring up the placemarkers dialog. 3.Tab to the "add" button and press spacebar. 4.The name box should be filled in with "Images/Next" so tab to the box for defining the placemarker for all pages in the current domain and check the box by using spacebar if it is not checked. 5.Tab to the box that lets you anchor the placemarker to text and use spacebar to check the box. 6.Tab to the OK button and use spacebar. After doing the above process you can just press the letter "K" every time you want to get to the "next" button on any page in the domain and pressing enter key will activate the button. In summary, pressing the letter "n" will move focus directly to the information you want to hear on each page in the domain. Once a placemarker has been created then you can just press the letter "k" on each page to move to the "next" button and pressing enter key will activate it. Take care. Could anyone give me some tips as to how to navigate this site? I just want to read it without having to type so many key strokes. http://www.cboe.com/LearnCenter/cboeeducation/Course_01_01/mod_01_13.aspx Thanks, Ann For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
