Heard from another list that AVG was the cause of jaws crashing. When
being ran as a service.
Now the AVG has ben enabled and jaws is still running, but for how
long is the guess.
Its updates for the past 6 months has ben causing problems for a lot
of computers I tech from work.

I use Avast antivirus but I can not seem to remove bv:autorun-s

on the net it seems that AVG is the best tool for deleting this type
of virus. In the past I heard discussions on this list regarding AVG
and accessibility issues. Lately I have not heard about any concerns
with the free or paid version of AVG. Does the latest version of AVG
work well with Jaws V11? Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Outlook

2010-01-17 Thread Patti
Hey Gang,

I'm new to outlook, and here is my problem.

1 In every folder is a copy of the emails that come in.

2 When I delete or send a message I don't know where it goes, because my
unread emails are in there to.

3 How do I get email addresses in the address book?

I'm using outlook 11, Jaws 11, windows 7, and I think IE 8.

Can I please get some help, before I pitch the new computer out the window?
Smiles

I have been working on this all week long.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe - Adobe Reader download

2010-01-17 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Al,
I am not a proponent of upgrading anything unless it is absolutely
necessary.
Having said that, if you are not experiencing any problems with the version
you are using, then I would stick with it.
It may be that the newer version is necessary for pdf documents created with
a later version
of the software, or that there may be some security changes, which really
shouldn't affect simply reading a document,
especially if you are not viewing it on-line.
I do have version 9.2 on my test machine, but not on my personal machine
since I don't have a frequent need to read pdf files.
It shouldn't hurt to download and use the latest version, but that would
just be a personal preference. smile

[JAWS-Users] List of key tips for Office 2007?

2010-01-17 Thread Ann Byrne
Someone, years ago, posted a way to use the macro function in Word
2002 to create a table listing all the keystrokes and their
associated commands for Word. It would be a tremendous help while
struggling through the ribbon and submenus if such a list were
available showing commands and key tips for Word 2007. Does anyone
have such a list or know how to create it with JAWS?

Much thanks,

Ann

Re: [JAWS-Users] List of key tips for Office 2007?

2010-01-17 Thread Brian Lee
Hello ann,

The macro is still available in Word 2007. You can do the following to have
the table created in a document:

1. In a blank document use Alt+F8 to bring up the macros dialog box.

2. Use tab key until the macros in combo box is in focus.

3. Use down arrow in the macros in combo box until word commands is
selected.

4. Use tab to the macro name box. JAWS might just call it an edit box
but there is a list of choices.

5. Press the letter l to move down to that area of the list and then use
down arrow until the list commands choice is selected. You can also just
type in the word list and use down arrow to it.

6. Use tab key and press spacebar on the run button.

7. The first radio button in the group that appears will be for current
keyboard settings. Use down arrow to the all Word commands choice.

8. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.

If shortcut keys are not showing for your screen tips then you can do the
following:

1. Use Alt+F followed by the letter I to bring up Word options.

2. Use down arrow key in the category list to the advanced choice.

3. Use tab key several times until the checkbox for show shortcut keys in
screen tips is found and if it is not checked then use spacebar to check
it.

4. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.

Take care. Have a nice Sunday!

Hi Lennie,
According to Adobe, you should scan your system for viruses or spyware,
to make sure it is clean, and un-install any earlier versions of Adobe
before trying to re-install Adobe 9.
I hope this works for you, since the other solution involves hacking the
registry.

[JAWS-Users] Dear Sherri, I think AVG is Great, completely JAWS Friendly!

2010-01-17 Thread Alan Dicey

Dear Sherri,
I have been using AVG now for about 3 years, and I have had absolutely no
problems with it!

I find it is very JAWS friendly, and updates it's definitions several times
a day!

I surely would not recommend that Avast program, as I have heard so many
people having serious problems uninstalling it!
I have used in the past Norton, McFee, and a couple of others, and in my
mind AVG beats them all hands down!

I purchased a AVG program at Office Max, for $39, and after installing it,
was pleasantly surprised that the license and update of the definitions is
good for two (2) years!

A much better deal than one could get on their web site!

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007- Reading Follow UP Flag - No Date

2010-01-17 Thread Bill Tipton
Hello,

When I flag an email message as follow up - no date , how can I read that
status with JAWS 10? JAWS reads status with no date,
and status when set as one week: I can't tell the difference when reading
through a long list of messages with different follow up
flag statuses.
I have JAWS 11 and 9, but prefer to use JAWS 10 with the other problems with
reading other flag statuses in JAWS 11.
I set flag status to no date in the follow up sub menu.
In JAWS options (insert I) I have flag and follow up status set to on for
Outlook 2007.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Bill

[JAWS-Users] UPDATING PROBLEM WITH JAWS

2010-01-17 Thread JOHN JUSTICE
I never realized this but apparently, Jaws 11 is on a DVD not a standard CD.
I have an old computer and I wanted to update it with the current version of
Jaws. The old drive doesn't even recognize that kind of disk.
If I download the newer version of Jaws from the web site, I don't know how to
confirm that I have a right to it. I don't want to end up with a trial
version. There are no more updates on my current jaws 10. Yet I have Jaws 11.
How can I accomplish this task?

If you have a current license for version 10 and were
entitled to the upgrade (i.e. receive the DVD in the mail)
you should be able to download the current version of JAWS
on their website and be good to go. The only difference
between the demo and licensed version is enabling the ILM.
If your entitled to the upgrade it will be done
automatically

 Hi Sue,
Here is the short of it.
 Rich text format (RTF)
A text document with specific formatting properties.
Can be opened with Wordpad, Word, and other text editors.
 Portable document format (pdf)
Again, has specific formatting properties and may be password protected.
These documents can be read with Adobe Reader, or other pdf readers.
You shouldn't have to worry about creating any, unless it is for some job

 school requirement.

I got these settings from a blog about a year ago, and they work just fine.
Just follow them to a t and you will be fine!

1. In Outlook 2007, click the Tools menu, and then click Accounts.
2. Click Add, and then click Mail.
3. Type your name, and then click Next.
4. Type your full Windows Live Hotmail e-mail address, and then click
Next.
5. Enter the following information, and then click Next:
. In the My incoming mail server is a box, click POP3.
. In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server box, type
pop3.live.com.
. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box, type smtp.live.com
6. Type the account name and the password for your Windows Live Hotmail
account. Clear the Remember password check box unless you're the only
person
with access to the computer. Make sure that the Log on using Secure
Password

Authentication (SPA) check box isn't selected.
7. Click Next, and then click Finish.
8. In the Internet Accounts window, click the Mail tab, click the
Windows Live Hotmail account that you added, and then click Properties.
9. Click the Advanced tab, and under Server Port Numbers, enter the
following information, and then click OK:
. In the Incoming mail (POP3) box, type 995.
. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box, type 25.
. Under both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3), select the

Yes, these settings were originally for outlook express, so they should
work. haven't tested them though, so I can't say for sure.

Is it possible to use Hotmail with Outlook Express? I am still using OE. If
not, is there a good tutorial on how to set up Windows live mail? Thank you.

[JAWS-Users] iTunes?

2010-01-17 Thread Kliph
So, I now have Jaws 11, with windows 7, and the latest build of iTunes. So
what needs to be disabled or adjusted for the best experience? Do I turn
genius on or off, do I turn on tool bars or leave them off? I'm not a
iTunes expert, but trying to become one.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook

2010-01-17 Thread Grant Hardy
How are you changing folders? If you're using the tree view in Outlook's
main window to select a folder, you need to move to the desired folder with
arrow keys, then press ENTER to select it. You can then press TAB to move to
the message list. For example, suppose you're in the inbox, and you enter
the tree view of folders and scroll to Sent items, but don't press ENTER.
The selection will not have changed, so you will still be focussed in the
inbox.

With that in mind, Outlook stores sent mail in the Sent items folder by
default, and deleted mail in the deleted items folder.

An easy way to make a new contact in Outlook is to push CTRL+SHIFT+C. You'll
land in a blank contact. Use TAB and SHIFT+TAB to move through the fields;
edit them as you normally would (by typing, using arrows, backspace, etc.).
Hit CTRL+S to save when you're done, then ALT+F4 to close the contact.

If someone has sent you an Email, and you want to easily add them to your
contact list, open the message by moving to it in the message list and
pressing ENTER. Now use SHIFT+TAB until you're in the from field, and
press LEFT ARROW once to make sure you're focussed on the person's name
(JAWS should announce this). Now open the context menu, either by using the
context menu key or by pressing SHIFT+F10, and pick Add to Outlook
Contacts. You'll once again be in the contact editor, and you can TAB and
SHIFT+TAB to move through the fields, but some of them will already be
filled in for you.

Hope this helps!

Grant
