Re: [JAWS-Users] converting pdf files to audio?

2010-04-13 Thread Van Der Walt Riana
Hello Ann,

In OB 7, it's an option under the file menu "save to audio." You have
the option to save a page range or single page and you can save to
either wav, or mp3 format.

It may take a few minutes or hours, depending on the document size.

Kurzweil has more options, like changing bitrates and to write to a cd.

Regards,

Riana

Honestly unsure how to do this in OB. Do you remember where that would
be
located? I just tried to save as and I did not see MP3 or wav as

Hi Ann,

I apologize to the list as this is the third message in a row. I am not
sure why the link I was using didn't work as it was sent using HTML

I am including a link below to the file, which I have put in the public

Hello Ann,

I haven't used Open Book for some time but if I remember right the option
to

save a file as an audio file was in the file menu. Another idea to
consider

might be using www.zamzar.com. They will convert PDF to MP3 and the audio

couple minutes. I have put a link below to the file on my SkyDrive page

you can listen to the audio. The file I submitted was a PDF file on

bluetooth technology and the resulting MP3 was a lot better than I thought

it would be. If you follow the llink below you will be taken to the page

for downloading the file. Use insert with f7 and pick the download link

on

your drive and upload it, put in your Email address where they can send a

link to the file, choose MP3 from the combo box and submit the file. When

you follow the link they send you there will be an alternative to download

[JAWS-Users] delete headers in Word 2007

2010-04-13 Thread Chanelle Hill
Dear Jaws List,
I cannot get Microsoft Word to remove a header from the second page of my
document. I divide the first page from the second with a section break. Then I
go to the insert tab on the ribbon (alt n) press h for header, and scroll to
remove header. The header on page 3 as well as headers in the rest of the
document are removed. It doesn't matter where I place the cursor. Am I missing
a Jaws command or a step? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some scanning software programs, such as OpenBook and Kurzweil 1000 have the
ability to record file audio in mp3, wav, or possibly other formats.

Open .pdf file using scanning software.
I think scanning software like Openbook reads PDF files better.
File is read using synthesized voice, eloquence, sappy...
You can then record the synthesized reading using a digital recorder.
You now have a audio file on your recorder that you can copy to your PC.
I know that you can go from speech to text using Dragon or similar

I have my Windows 7 disk here but I have not installed it on my XP pro machine

erases everything except the "my documents folder. My laptop seems to be
running pretty stable lately and as they say if it aint broke don't fix it. I
also have heard if you have Vista on your machine then you can just
install/migrate windows seven without having to do anything special. So, what
if I install vista first and then windows seven would that be a working
solution? Lastly, if any of you who are now using Windows seven and you
installed it over Xp what did you do? Did you back up apps and files, and/or
what did you do to make it less difficult for you? Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] converting pdf files to audio?

2010-04-13 Thread Tim Appleby
Actually, Openbook does record Elequence onto MP3 formatted files, if you
set it to record the text into either WAV or MP3, its your choice.

I hope this helps, I had the program as a demo, that's how I know.

There may be some software out there but one off the cuff way to do this
and I don't know if it would work but...

Open .pdf file using scanning software.
I think scanning software like Openbook reads PDF files better.
File is read using synthesized voice, eloquence, sappy...
You can then record the synthesized reading using a digital recorder.
You now have a audio file on your recorder that you can copy to your PC.
I know that you can go from speech to text using Dragon or similar
software but don't know if there are other ways.

Re: [JAWS-Users] transporting configured web sites and settings

2010-04-13 Thread Ann M. Medlar

Hi again,
Yes I did this and copied configurations to my CF card.
One other question. I wanted to copy my stock analysis folder under
favorites but had trouble.
I pressed start menu entered on favorites and scrolled down to my stock
analysis folder. Selected folder, copied and it would not copy nor paste.
I finally opened each web site and pressed F6 key and copied each URl to
clipboard and tried to copy to folder on CF card. this did not work.
So I created a stoc analysis.txt in notepad and copied the 3 urls into text
file into my folder on CF card.

Any reasons why I could not easily copy the folder?

Go to Start, Programs, Jaws 11, Explore Jaws, My settings.
In this folder there is a folder named PlaceMarkers.
Open it, Sellect all with control + a, and copy.
Make a folder on your flash memory and paste the content there.
After you can copy the content in the same folder named PlaceMarkers in
other computers.

Hi all,
I customized many sites on the web.
First I have 3 web sites in a folder under my favorites.
I launch IE, then alt+a for favorites and type 's' for stock sites and
enter

Within this folder I have 3 sites.
I enter on first site and I have bookmarks shift+control+k to move to
specific links all over site.I have several bookmarks on all 3 sites.
I want to use a different computer so rather than doing customizations
all over how do I transport these settings to another PC? What is file
name and how do I install it?

I am using Windows XP media IE8 and JAWS Version 11.0.756U
My other PC I am using Windows xP downgraded from vista, IE 8, I have
Jaws 11 but unsure what version.

Thanks,
Ann

There is a slide set at 66%, you have to move it at 0%.

No. You can run Winamp but the scripts do not work properly at this time.
For example JAWS won't announce the next or previous track if you press b
or
z, for example. Just one of the reasons why I got fed up of 64 bit
operating

systems. I want my old functionality back, and now I have it.

On another note, since I have a 64 bit machine, does this mean I can't

64 bit is great but it's not for me at this time. I've decided to go
back

to 32 bit as JAWS reads things a lot better on that platform, plus I can
use some programs that work better with JAWS on a 32 bit operating
system,
like Winamp. I will definitely monitor the progress on how screen
readers
work on a 64 bit operating system, but for now I'm happy with good old
32

bit. So I think this is the reason why things aren't reading for you.

Hello:
I have a new 64 bit Windows 7 system running the latest version of JFW.
I
keep encountering several places where I am unable to read what I type
or
even read d what is already in a field. Usually, when I check theses
occurrences, it says that there is "no font". I have not encountered
this
with my Windows XP or Vista systems with JWS.

By changing themes yesterday, I was able to move between virtually no
screen
reading output, all the way to being able to read virtually everything.
Occasionally, some dialogue boxes and message boxes will not echo
anything
and in some instances they speak correctly. I have been unable to
discern a
definite pattern as to what the problem might actually be. I have been
searching Freedom Scientifics' knowledge base, but have not been able
to

find my exact problem described.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what other settings I might
manipulate that might help in alleviating this problem?
Thanks...
