Any ideas on what is going on and how I might fix it?

Re: [JAWS-Users] word document conversion part two.

2010-04-20 Thread Darrin Porter
Larry,

A Year or so ago, I ran across one of those 2007 files--I think it was a DOCX
file. When I tried to open it it word, I got a dialogue box that basically
said that I needed to download a Microsoft Office plugin to be able to view
this type of file, which I did. The downloading and installation were very
strait forward and now I can open and work with DOCX, XLSX, etc. files just as
if they were created in an earlier version of Office.

By the way, Several years ago I neede3d to open a file created in WordPerfect
5.1 and was even able to get a plugin for that format.

original had been created in Word 2007.
Do any of you have experience with the Microsoft office file
conversion program? The information I read on the MS web
site indicates that it will allow 2007 word, power-point and
excel documents to be read by office 2000, XP and 2003 as
long as the appropriate critical updates and service packs
are installed.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws11 update;-can it be uninstalled?

2010-04-20 Thread John Justice
I had the same problem with Windows Live Mail. The only option is to
uninstall the current version of Jaws and then re-install from your original
disk. But be careful that you have your product ID code before you do that.
It's the only way I know that makes any sense. By the way, I got that idea
fromJohn Melia, another member of this list.

My WLM worked very well before I did the last update of Jaws yesterday. Now,
when I open a message it starts reading but a few lines down from the top
and it repeats itself. So I have to do home and and press the keys to read
it for each message that used to read perfectly .
Is there a way to go back to the previous version of Jaws? When I looked at
the list of improvements after installing the latest version there was
nothing on there I was interested in. The research It stuff is interesting
but I never use it.
The small improvement in that is not worth the reading problem in WLM.
I get so many emails from multiple lists that every repetitive keystroke is
starting to count towards hand discomfort and limiting my computer sessions.
So if there is an easy way to uninstall the latest update I would love to
know about it.

[JAWS-Users] I FINALLY GAVE UP ON WINDOWS LIVE

working on the problem. But in the meantime, I took a chance and installed
Outlook 2003. I have the entire Office suite and so all I did was choose
the Custom Installation and uncheck everything except Outlook. I am finding
that this is a very well designed program.
A lot of thought must have gone into the design. Outlook is capable of some
pretty incredible things! For example, if you create a folder but you don't
like where it is, you can actually move the folder to another location.
You can actually create a message rule based on a particular message you

I'm now sending this message using Outlook 2003 and I'm not having any
serious Jaws choking problems either.

A cool discovery in my opinion regarding the latest jaws v11 update. The key
 stroke for silencing
speech is jaws key spacebar s. Nice feature. But prior to this release you
 could temporarily mute
speech with a designated keystroke. Of course once you leave that area
 speech would return. However,
I kept my temporary mute jaws keystroke (caps lock backspace) but now it
 will silence speech and
keep it silent in any app until I turn speech back on. I think I like my key
 combo better. (smile)

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and cd/dvd burning software

2010-04-20 Thread Melissa Riley
I would also like to know about Niro's accessibility, and if it does work,
does anyone have any advice for tutorials or learning tips? It is an
expensive piece of software, but if it works, an investment worth the money
to me.
Warmly,
Melissa

Which one of the following works best with Jaws? Nero or Roxio and which
one has the most features too?

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws dictionary question

2010-04-20 Thread Victoria Vaughan
Hi, Thanks, I'll try that and see how it pronounces things. It's just that,
from what Jaws said in the dictionary process, that my change would only be
for an entirely French dictionary. From what you say, I guess that is not
the case.

Thanks again! Vicky

Hi Vicky,
If you want that word pronounced in the correct manner, check the French
option. You wouldn't believe what a difference that makes.

In the Jaws dictionary, if there is a French word in an English document,
after the correct spelling and then phonic spelling has been entered, as
you

then Tab through, it asks, Using Language? What would be the best
response?

Many thanks! Vicky
