Re: [JAWS-Users] Keyboard navigation on a Flash based website

2010-07-07 Thread Steve

Well, this probably won't be popular on this list.

Jaws doesn't work very well with many flash sites. It's hit or miss.

Try using the System Access screen reader. You can run it for free by going
to

http://www.satogo.com
YOu need to enter that link from the run dialog without another screen
reader running. Just follow the prompts which will be to press alt-r to run
the install program. You should get prompted for that twice.

It does a much better job of identifying flash content. If you land on any
edit boxes, be advised that it doesn't have "forms mode" like Jaws, it acts
as Jaws 11 does if you have it turn forms mode on immediately. When you
land in an edit box, any keystroke will be typed there unless you navigate
away with an arrow key.

Hopefully, the folks at F.S. will improve flash access with Jaws. But, it
might be an issue of video hooks, because Win-Eyes has the same degree of
difficulty with flash content. System Access doesn't use the video
intercepts.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Keyboard navigation on a Flash based website

Does anyone know how I can use the keyboard alone to navigate a Flash
website (in IE and/or Firefox). I am using a PC.

I want to test if a Flash site is accessible and I can tab to links but I
cannot get to the flash based objects (Navigation menus).

In a non-flash website (i.e. html website), I would use the tab key to tab
between page elements and then use the arrow keys to get to sub-menus
within

a navigation menu.

Any help would be great.

Press b for 'button'. that might give you some reference points in the
Flash. Also, the Flash has to be written with accessibility in mind for
it to be of use to us.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Keyboard navigation on a Flash based website

2010-07-07 Thread Dujari, Prateek
sorry but for most part we are out of luck and Flash base sites are pretty much
inaccessible. there are exceptions of course where sometimes with some tedious
navigation of the flash page or the flash window on an otherwise accessible
page you can read the buttons titles /labels and understand them as well as
click them to activate them. But for most part flash is a deal breaker.

also although only in the last couple of weeks and I don't think it coincided
wit the latest JAWS update.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem Reading All Messages in Windows Live Mail

I am running Windows 7, 64 bit, and the Latest version of JAWS 11. The problem
that I'm having is that I can't read all of my messages in Windows Live Mail.
Some messages are read correctly and in their entirety but, some messages don't
read anything at all. In order to read these messages I have to hit forward or
reply and then read through the message and then just cancel actually sending
the message. So, it's not that I can't read the message but, I have to go
through these extra steps to read it and it is very unnecessary and annoying.
Is any one else having this problem and does anyone know what I might be able
to do to fix it. It's confusing to me since it does not do it on all of my
messages. Thanks in advance for your help.

Smiles Across the Miles,
Gena

Hi Ming,
Try saving the file instead rather than running it directly from the site.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows mail and jaws hanging in contacts!

2010-07-07 Thread David Bailes
Hi Paul,

The following text is taken from a jaws guide to windows mail available at:
http://bit.ly/9b1QZX

Hiding the Preview pane so that Windows Explorer doesn't freeze
When Windows Explorer is displaying the Contacts folder, if the Preview pane is
shown, then there's a bug in Jaws which causes Windows Explorer to hang/freeze
when you move through the contacts in the Folder view. There are two ways of
hiding the preview pane. The first is to hide the preview pane and the details
pane for all folders:
   1. Choose Folder Options on the Tools menu.
   2. The Folder Options dialog opens on the General page, and first control is
a Tasks group of radio buttons. Select the Use Windows classic folders radio
button, and then press Enter to press the default OK button.
The second way is to hide the preview pane just for folders which contain
contacts:
   1. Tab to the Organize button, which is the first control on the toolbar,
and
press it.
   2. The Organize menu opens. Open the Layout sub-menu, and move to Preview
Pane. If this is checked, then press Enter which changes it to unchecked and
closes the Organise menu.

David.

Hi all,

Has anyone here using Vista with jaws 11 come across a situation where upon
entering into the contacts in Windows Mail the program just hangs. I just
wondered if anyone had any solutions for this they could share.

Many thanks,

Paul.
