Hi David;

That is correct but, you have to get the run button first. When I click on
the link the only options I get are cancel or save. As I explained earlier,
when saved, the download does not have a file extension. I have to add it
before it will work. Another little tidbit, when I click on the link and
get the options, 1 of the things mentioned is file unknown. I am wondering
if this might be a settings issue at my end. Not saying I have a whole lot
of experience but, this is defintely something I haven't ran into before.
Computers, they keep Dr. Phil busy, with me anyway! LOL Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE updating links

2010-08-25 Thread Steve
I don't know if that is the same update that MSSE uses or not. This is for
a Microsoft ForeFront security software. See

INTRODUCTION
This article describes how to manually download the latest antimalware
definition updates for Microsoft Forefront Client Security.

MORE INFORMATION
To download the Microsoft Forefront Client Security antimalware definition
update file(Mpam-fe.exe) for 32-bit (x86-based) versions of Windows, click
the

following link:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=87342clcid=0x409
To download the Microsoft Forefront Client Security antimalware definition
update filefor 64-bit versions of Windows, click the following link:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=87341clcid=0x409
Note You must be running a 64-bit version of Windows to run a 64-bit version
of Microsoft Forefront Client Security. The 64-bit versions of Windows
include

x64-based versions.

After you click the appropriate link, click Run to install the definition
update file immediately. Or, click Save to save the file to the computer. If

you click Save, remember the folder where you save the file.

To install the saved file, click Start, click Run, locate the folder where
you saved the file, double-click the file, and then click OK.

Note To install the file on a Windows Vista-based computer, right-click the
file, and then click Run As Administrator to install it.

User Account Control permission
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the
password or click Continue.

When the definition update file runs, a file extraction dialog box appears.
The dialog box indicates that the definition update is installing. After the
file extraction dialog box closes, you can verify that the Microsoft
Forefront Client Security definitions have been updated. To do this, open
Microsoft
Forefront Client Security, and then check the definition version at the
bottom of the Microsoft Forefront Client Security Home dialog box.

Corporate customers should use Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) version
2.0 or a later version to distribute Microsoft Forefront Client Security
definition

updates.

You can use the -q command-line switch with the Microsoft Forefront Client
Security definition update file. This switch installs the definition update
in quiet mode. Quiet mode suppresses the file extraction dialog box. To
install the definition update in quiet mode, type the following command:

Mpam-fe.exe -q
Note You must use an account that has administrator rights to run this
command.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE updating links

2010-08-25 Thread David Ferrin
I checked it out extensively and did change the direct download links but
the same file names come up. It does not make any sense that they would have
the same file names for two different products but who knows. Never the less
give it a try now and see if your results are the same or not. If it
continues not to work for folks then I'll simply pull that little file off
of the server.

Note You must use an account that has administrator rights to run this
command.

 Hi David;

I figured out the problem. When you save the file it doesn't hav the
 .exe
file extension on the end. So I highlighted the file, pressed the F2
 key
and added the .exe extension to the end. Now, I can open it and get
 an
option to run the update. I don't know if anyone else has experienced
 this
problem but, I downloaded and saved the file in 3 different places on my
harddrive and none of the downloads had a .exe extension on them.
 Okay,
have any of you other list members encountered this problem? All input
 will
be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.

Heather,

No, you are in the right spot, but when you open that dialog with insert-v,
just press the letter s or downarrow past those first three items and you
will get to the virtual cursor settings, which have nine items. The one
that changes copying from the virtual cursor to the full screen is the first
one in the group of nine. It is organized kind of like a treeview.

Hi All;

When I click on the links to update MSSE from the Jaws-Users website the
update links work. It was when I clicked on the links in an email from
either the Blind-computing or Jaws-Users lists' that did not work! Hope
this will clear up some of the confusion. Take care.

It is dollars to doughnuts that if it is possible for anyone to be bamboozled
over downloading a
programme, I will be amongst the crowd, but in the case of MSE, a brand new
anti virus program for
me, the download went without a hitch: a couple of presses of the spacebar and
it was installed.

Marilyn! I downloaded and installed MSE, or to put it more honestly, it
installed itself, and as
soon as I had pressed the spacebar when it said finish, the update window
slid open: one or two
more presses of the spacebar and the update was installed.

[JAWS-Users] question msconfig start up programs

2010-08-25 Thread heather kd5cbl
I was wondering if I can check these programs so they don't start up in my
msconfig. ADOBE-ARM, itunes helper, apple sink notifier, action express
octicbook3600 (my scanner). Does this mean they won't work at all or just
that they don't automatic start running at the beginning when windows starts
up? I have my jaws 11 start up before I have to log in to windows but it
takes a while for it to start. I am wondering if I limitt these programs
from starting up, jaws will come on faster. Heather
