[JAWS-Users] stopping Jaws from saying space marker

2011-08-11 Thread jason smith
Hi list. I have a couple of files for my course. I am finding, that Jaws is
saying space marker a lot. It is almost after every word. It is also saying
paragraph marker at times too. I haven't experienced this with previous files.
It makes reading the text rather awkward. Is there a setting I can change to
stop this?
I am using Jaws 12 on a XP home system. And I am using word 2003. Although, I
think some of the files may originally have been PDF documents.

Thanks Jason

Is anyone using labs.google.com and if so are they experiencing the
following?

You type in your search, press enter and when the list of results come
up get this custom google search thing. What I mean is when I try to
read the results, its like the results from google and not how it
normally is displayed for labs.google. Man, I hope I am making sense.
I cannot move by heading or anything like that. If you understand what

Re: [JAWS-Users] Text Vs. HTML in Outlook 2007

2011-08-11 Thread Carolyn Barker
Cher,

There is no way to tell Outlook 2007 to open the incoming messages as text
instead of HTML. But, when I open HTML messages that were routed to my Junk
folder, they are in text format and all HTML is disabled. I copy/paste the
links I want to access from those messages. You have now made me realize
that I need to route more messages to Junk instead of constantly waiting to
open them in the web browser.

Re: [JAWS-Users] labs.google.com

2011-08-11 Thread kimsan
Alan:
I wonder what the issue is then for me?
I go to the labs.google site and the results are listed like the normal
google page.
I got sick of it last night so I used the http://scroogle.org/scraper.html
site that another jaws-users member sent a while back. I will go check the
labs.google page right now since it's a new day lol and see if its working
now. Lets hope it was a temporary malfunction lol.

Hello Friend,
I just used the "Google Accessible",
http://labs.google.com/accessible/

It is working the same way for me like it has been working for quite a while
now, about a year or so!

And Thank goodness, I could not stand using the standard Google.

[JAWS-Users] using 32 bit voices in a 64 bit system

2011-08-11 Thread David Ferrin
This worked for me just fine, no problems at all. This document was found on
the accessible devices how to do it page.
***
How To Use 32 Bit SAPI Voices In A 64 Bit System

This document was assembled from more than one source. The instructions here
have worked for us. In our experience the rebooting problem mentioned, at the
bottom of this page, did not happen, even though the computer was rebooted more
than once. However, we've left it in just to alert you to the possibility.

If you are running a 64 bit operating system such as Windows 7 or Vista 64 bit
you may have noticed that many of the text to speech voices out there are 32
bit. What that means is that if you look in your 64 bit Text to Speech control
panel none of the 32 bit voices can be selected as a default voice. In
consequence, if you are using an application like Qwitter in SAPI 5 mode then
Anna will be the only voice you can use with it. Fear not, because there is a
work around for this problem.

The following steps will allow you to choose any 32 bit voice as your Windows
voice in a 64 bit operating system.

1. Bring up a run dialog by pressing Windows key + R.
2. Type in the following command into the run dialog box and press enter when
done.
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl
3. If everything goes well, at this point you will be presented with a text to
speech control panel that will seem familiar to most 32 bit Windows users.
4. If you tab to the Voice Selection combo box, and if you have any 32 bit text
to speech voices installed, they should be listed in this combo box.
5. Simply select the text to speech voice you wish to set as your default
system voice, along with any other changes you wish to make, and press the OK
button when done.

That's it. Now when you start an application like Qwitter the voice you chose
should be the one speaking if using Qwitter in SAPI 5 mode. There is one
drawback to this. The drawback is, once you restart your computer, Windows does
not remember the settings you changed. But if 32 bit voices are a must, you can
just repeat the steps as explained above.

Hi,

Is anyone using labs.google.com and if so are they experiencing the
following?

You type in your search, press enter and when the list of results come up
get this custom google search thing. What I mean is when I try to read the
results, its like the results from google and not how it normally is
displayed for labs.google. Man, I hope I am making sense. I cannot move by
heading or anything like that. If you understand what I am saying, please
provide a response. If not, go ahead and write back and yell at me and I
will try to explain better off list.

Thankyou.
