Hi All,

I now have jaws 12 and13 on my computer. I want 13 to start, not 12. I
went
into basic options on 12, and unchecked everything in the placed that
gives
you choices to check or uncheck how jaws starts. When I went to jaws
13, the

same boxes that I unchecked in 12, were also unchecked in jaws 13. I
rechecked them in 13, and they appear the same in 12 also. How do I
keep 12
from starting? I'm running windows 7 home premium jaws 13 beta release
on a

64 bit machine. Jim

Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype, JAWS and Audacity

2011-09-16 Thread David Bailes
Hi Vicki,
it's difficult to work out what the problem is without further details of what
settings your friend tried. Both vista and windows 7 have similar dialogs for
sound settings. As someone has already said, it depends on the capabilities of
the sound chip and its driver, as to whether he can do what he wants to do, but
I think there's a fair chance that he can with most laptops.
My assumption is that he wants to following set up:
1. The inputs of both audacity and skype are set to "stereo mix" or similar, so
that the inputs are the audio which is going to the output device. This means
that the inputs pick up jaws directly, rather than through speaker and then mic.
2. The output device is set so that it passes through the mic input, so that
the audio going to the output device also includes the mic input. This is set
on the levels page of the properties dialog of the output device. Note this
assumes the use of a mic with a jack plug, rather than a usb mic.

best wishes,
David.

original message:
I have a question regarding JAWS and recording conversations on Skype using
Audacity.

My friend needs a laptop that will record conversations using the Audacity
program which will also pick up, not only the voice of the other person, but
JAWS as well. He not only needs JAWS picked up during a recording, but
picked up during a conversation with someone else that is not being
recorded.

Right now he is using a Toshiba laptop with Vista that does just this. There
is no problem recording conversations with others and JAWS using Audacity
and picking up everything and no problem for the person he is speaking with
outside of a recording hearing JAWS clearly while on Skype with him.

Because he needs to replace this laptop, he is looking for a laptop that
will do the same thing as he is taking a class that needs these functions.
He has tried several Toshiba laptops, an Asus and an HP. All use Windows 7.
The HP worked just the same as his Vista, however, there were other problems
with this laptop and he needed to return it.

Toshiba is telling him that there is no problem with their product and that
it is a Windows 7 or Skype issue, however, as I explained, it worked fine
with the HP which also used Windows 7. He uses the latest version of  Skype
and he used the version of Audacity which works with Windows 7.

Here are my questions.

1. Does anyone use a laptop with Windows 7 that will pick up a recorded
conversation, both voices and JAWS using Audacity? A desktop computer is not
an option and another recording program is not an option. It must be a
laptop with Windows 7 and Audacity.

2. If anyone has used such a computer and found it to be something that they
didn't like, was there a setting in Skype, Audacity or Windows 7 that they
changed to stop it from occurring. If so, where can that setting be found
and can it be easily reversed?

3. If there is a laptop that will work, I need both the brand and model.

Thank you.

Vicki

You are probably correct in the upgrade part. All worked ok
in JAWS 12 however. I was hoping to wait to upgrade in 2014
when XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and at that time
I would upgrade our computer systems, Windows operating
system (whatever # they are up to at that point) and the MS
Office program. Thanks for the feedback

[JAWS-Users] size of omnipage file with jaws 13

2011-09-16 Thread Fanus
Hi Listers
Does anyone know what the size of the omnipage file is that
gets downloaded when installing jaws 13. I am asking this
because I have a download cap and if I exceed it it becomes
quite expensive. If one therefore wants to install jaws 13
on a PC and a laptop it can become a problem. It would have
been nice if one could download the omnipage file separately
(just as the j13 file) and run it on various platforms
according to the number of activations that one has.

Fanus

That is the OCR piece. When you install JAWS 13, it will look to see if
the OCR engine we are providing with this version, is installed. If it
has not yet, we look at the User Temporary Folder where will store it in
the invent you need to reinstall later, if it is found in one of these
locations, the install proceeds without the need to download it. Since
this is the first time you have installed JAWS 13, it is having to reach

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Options Tree

2011-09-16 Thread Steve
Using Excel 2007, I do have that option available. However, mine isn't
reading properly.

When I tell it to overwrite either for all files or for the specific
worksheet, when I go down to the third option to tell it to read either row,
column, or both, it keeps saying things like "Off 1 of 4", "off, 2 of 4",
"off, 3 of 4", instead of reading the specific option that is selected. I
can't get the title column to hold.

It does work in Jaws 12, but it won't work in my installation of Jaws 13.

[JAWS-Users] Update on merging over your JFW12 settigns to JFW13 beta

2011-09-16 Thread Dujari, Prateek
Hello all. Based on my offline communication with FS tech support as well as
Eric's post earlier to this list you can try the following. the official word
from FS rightfully is to do so at your own risk. So they are not to blame or
held accountable if u do this and things act funky. having put FS off the hook
here I will share with you that I've done the below steps to quickly move over
all my JFW 12 settings to JFW13 with no issues so far.
1. Via the programs list on Windows go to JFW12 or JFW13 and further into the
list there containing 'explore my settings', explore program files' and explore
shared settings'.
2. On the side an FS bulletin on their website at URL below they say to ensure
that the original JFW13 .jss, .jsm and .jsh files are held on to and not
replaced by the .jss, .jsm and .jsh files of JFW12.
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/BulletinView.asp?QC=1458

3. Well going back to step 1 above, you will find that the only place with all
files for a huge list of applications with the above 3 extensions are all only
to be found under the folder that comes up when u hit 'explore shared
settings'. So don't mess with this at all.
4. So what I did was go to the folder with my JFW12 ENu folder via 'explore my
settings' and simply copied it over to totally replace the JFW 13 ENU folder
which again u get to via 'explore my settings'.

With this process I didn't at all mess with the .jss,.jsm and .jsh files of
JFW13 and yet immediately merged my JFW12 settings to JFW13.

Give a a shot if you cant stand tedium like me and share your experiences.

Mo,

Presumably, yes. If you try installation without internet access, it will
come up and tell you that some features weren't installed and you need to
re-run the installation.

Hi Graham,

1 thing I've noticed, at least running XP, is in the Settings Center, things
I press enter on in Jaws12 to open, you need to use the spacebar in Jaws13.
If you use the enter key, it closes the Settings Center, at least that is
what I've experienced with the limited use I've had with it so far. Take
care.

Hello all. Based on my offline communication with FS tech
support as well as Eric's post earlier to this list you can
try the following. the official word from FS rightfully is
to do so at your own risk. So they are not to blame or held
accountable if u do this and things act funky. having put FS
off the hook here I will share with you that I've done the
below steps to quickly move over all my JFW 12 settings to
JFW13 with no issues so far.
1. Via the programs list on Windows go to JFW12 or JFW13 and
further into the list there containing 'explore my
settings', explore program files' and explore shared
settings'.
2. On the side an FS bulletin on their website at URL below
they say to ensure that the original JFW13 .jss, .jsm and
.jsh files are held on to and not replaced by the .jss, .jsm
and .jsh files of JFW12.
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/BulletinView.asp
?QC=1458

3. Well going back to step 1 above, you will find that the
only place with all files for a huge list of applications
with the above 3 extensions are all only to be found under
the folder that comes up when u hit 'explore shared
settings'. So don't mess with this at all.
4. So what I did was go to the folder with my JFW12 ENu
folder via 'explore my settings' and simply copied it over
to totally replace the JFW 13 ENU folder which again u get
to via 'explore my settings'.

With this process I didn't at all mess with the .jss,.jsm
and .jsh files of JFW13 and yet immediately merged my JFW12
settings to JFW13.

Give a a shot if you cant stand tedium like me and share
your experiences.

Take
care.

Using Excel 2007, I do have that option available. However,
mine isn't
reading properly.

When I tell it to overwrite either for all files or for the
specific
worksheet, when I go down to the third option to tell it to
read either row,
column, or both, it keeps saying things like "Off 1 of 4",
"off, 2 of 4",
"off, 3 of 4", instead of reading the specific option that
is selected. I
can't get the title column to hold.

It does work in Jaws 12, but it won't work in my
installation of Jaws 13.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Update on merging over your JFW12 settings to JFW13beta

2011-09-16 Thread Bissett, Tom
I believe that is the case. They have rewritten some of the scripts. As an
example Microsoft Word I think now interacts with the document model directly
and if you have a modified word script from an earlier version in your personal
folder you will lose the new functionality or it may not work at all. So they
can't give you a merge utility because it would break a lot of stuff.

was that due to some key differences there will not be a merge utility in any

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Options Tree

2011-09-16 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

You can get around this issue by adding the following line to your Microsoft
Excel.jkm or Microsoft Outlook 2000.jkm file in your user settings folder.

Control+Alt+v=AdjustJAWSOptions

You'll need to edit the existing jkm file in your user settings folder since
it cannot be added with the Keyboard Manager. If you do not have a jkm file
in your user settings folder, you can create a new one that contains the
following.
[Common]
Control+Alt+v=AdjustJAWSOptions

You can assign whatever key you like, but should avoid any key that is used
by the application or JAWS, such as JAWSkey+v or control+shift+v. This will
bring up the old JAWS options menu where the application specific options
can be found. I would only change the options that are specific to the
application and not change any of the JAWS options. Something could break
since JAWS options are now changed with the Quick Settings key JAWSKey+v.

Research It in JAWS 13? I've entered two or three things and
get no results. If I go back to JAWS and enter same thing
many choices come up? Let me know and I'll submit a bug

Re: [JAWS-Users] yahoo email

2011-09-16 Thread Shari

Hi John,

Sounds like you're using the web based Yahoo email. Recently another lister
suggested using

m.yahoo.com

and clicking the mail link to access messages. I have found that to work
very well. I'm using Jaws 12, so I can't say for sure how it might work with
10, but it might be worth a try.

Hi listers. I set up an email account with yahoo but find that JFW10 does
not wirk very well with yahoo since I have trouble getting to the message
body edit field. I looked for an option to switch to basic html format but
couldn't find any. Does anyone have any experience using yahoo email with
jaws? Thanks in advance for any help.

[JAWS-Users] some unpleasant experience with jaws 13.

2011-09-16 Thread jim rawls
Hi all,
I installed the beta of jaws 13, and had some not pleasant experience. First of
all, Windows media player 12 quit working. I'm using Windows 7 home premium. I
thought it was of course WMP messing up. So, I figured I better find out how to
repair it.
On a whim, I went back to jaws 12, and found out that it wouldn't work either.
So, I uninstalled jaws beta 13, and... reinstalled jaws 12, and all is fine
now, including the fact that WMP12 works again. Maybe my installation of jaws
13 went wonky on me for some reason, but now I'm kind of gun shy to try it
again. I'll write FS about it, and see what they say. Just thought I would pass
this on. Jim

Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp with jaws 13

2011-09-16 Thread Scorpio Forever
Hello Ming,

Please make sure that you are in the right Winamp pane when you're adjusting
the volume.

The volume up and down keys only work in the Winamp main window.

Try control+tab to go around the Winamp panes until you get to the Winamp
main window.

The easiest way to figure out which is the Winamp main window if Jaws isn't
telling you is to try to turn up the volume or turn it down after each press
of control+tab.

Once you hear that the volume has changed, you know you're in the Winamp
main window.

Scorpio
