[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 550 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you will find the group web address along with some other relevant information pertaining to contacting the management team ETC. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer wish to be a member of the list and remove your email address. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should only post in the following manner: Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any member names. The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in effect do not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list. Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article or message of interest which relates to the nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it will be posted to the list.
[JAWS-Users] Update: Windows7 Maximizing Keystroke
Hi All, First, this is not an April Fool's Day prank! A few days ago I posted a Keystroke, windows key + up arrow, that maximizes windows in Windows7. I stated that after invoking this keystroke that Windows7 would remember that any window that is maximized using this keystroke would be remembered in Windows7 but, I did not know if Windows7 would remember the maximized windows after a reboot or, a restart! Well, I know now that Windows7 does not remember what windows were maximized using this keystroke after rebooting or, restarting! So, when using this keystroke to maximize windows, Windows7 will only remember the maximized windows for the current session of using your computer! Hope this helps. Take care. That copies the page address you are on, however, it doesn't copy the link you might be pointing to. To do that: 1. Point to the link you want. 2. Bring up the links list (Jaws-f7). 3. You can press the status line command (Jaws-pageDown) to have the actual address of that link spoken. 4. To copy that address, virtualize the screen (Jaws-alt-w). 5. Go down to the bottom line and highlight the url address using the usual windows highlight command and copy it to the clipboard. 6. Now, you can paste that link wherever you want it. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. Steve Lansing, MI For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] copy link in Browser
Hi Trish, Below are 3 other ways to copy a link; #1; 1. Find the direct download link you want and press enter to open the link. 2. Tab to cancel the download and press space bar or enter. 3. Go back to this link by arrowing either up or down once or twice and go back to the link and make sure it says visited. 4. Press the context applications key and arrow to copy shortcut and press enter. This copies the direct download link for a program to the clipboard. 5. Paste this direct download link into an e-mail and send it to someone and when they press enter on this particular link they will go directly to the download for the program. #2; While on the download link, I right click the mouse on the numPad key and enter on properties. In there is the URL for a direct download. #3; here's the way you can do the direct link download, 1, find the download link you wish to send to someone, 2, now press insert+f7, this brings up your links, and, you should hear, your download link being read, 3, make sure your on the link, and press, alt+m, now, press applications key, and down arrow and enter on, copy shortcut. Hope these help. Take care. Mike P.S. With the steps Steve posted, you need to add the Insert / Jaws key to the F7 Alt + W, keystrokes. - Original Message - From: Steve To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2012 10:22 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] copy link in Browser That copies the page address you are on, however, it doesn't copy the link you might be pointing to. It seems to be a rockin little machine. It's a 14 inch model, very light and thin with pretty long battery life. I've installed Jaws 13 and Microsoft 2010 so far. This is my first email on it. I wanted something that would not get bogged down when working with Word(a memory hog) and outlook and the internet. I can have numerous documents, web pages and excel all opened and no slowdown. I am a 22 year user of jaws and have never had a computer like this and after two months, have not locked it up. I agree with the one suggestion that you consider whether you need the ability to travel with the computer and if not, the desk top might be fine as they are usually cheaper for the same capability as a laptop. That said, I have another 15 inch laptop that I have 4 USB ports on and I plug a keyboard into the computer alone with a scanner and remote hard drive and printer so that it works like a desktop but I could pick it up and travel with it. This laptop however weighs 6 pounds versus 3 pounds for my newest laptop with a 13 inch screen. Good luck and have fun getting the right computer. I was hoping there was a way to make the default Audio output for my laptop point to my sound card, but still make JAWS use the USB device to output speech? Would love to hear some music while on the web, but when both music and JAWS are outputting sound through the USB device simultaneously, it's really hard to concentrate on either.
