Hi all,
I'm a Windows 7 JAWS 13 user who just installed Windows Live Mail to see if it

comfortably use this? Should I be able to with my current setup? Are there
scripts I need, certain versions I should be using or settings I need to
change? I can't even find my contact list. I can add people, but can't find
them. I can send and receive mail. Please help? Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] AVG Virus Scan

2012-08-17 Thread Fred Adams
I am using W7, outlook 2010 and latest jaws and I would appreciate some
pointers on using the AVG virus protection. I have a new computer with AVG
already installed so I would like to give it an honest try. Lightening
damaged my old computer which had MSE virus protection and I liked it very
much but I would like to see how I like AVG. I will appreciate any
suggestions as this is new to me. Thanks much,

Re: [JAWS-Users] issue with Windows Mail

2012-08-17 Thread MWB
Hi David,

I totally appreciate all the efforts you are making to help me & others that
are having this problem. I had WLM installed so, I uninstalled it, along
with all its subsequent programs. However, now with all the settings in
default programs / set program access and computer defaults link the way
they are supposed to be, I still get the page & link by email option saying
unavailable & not working. I think a re-image is going to be in order.
Again, thank you very, very much for all your help!
Take care.

Hi Mike,
second attempt to make send page/link by e-mail available. You have to be
using an admin account for this.
1. Open the default programs page.
2. tab to the set program access and computer defaults link, and open it.
3. Say yes to the user account dialog.
3. The set program access and computer defaults dialog opens. The intial
focus is a custom radio button which is checked, although jaws does not read
this. Tab to the next control which is an outline button collapsed. Press
spacebar to press this button which changes it to expanded.
4. There are now a number of controls following this button. Tab to the
windows mail radio button, and press spacebar to check it.
5. press enter to press the default ok button.

David.

Thanks David and others for your speedy answers.
When I plug it in to the USB drive, will it start backing up my computer itself?
Or can I choose what gets put on it like using a flash drive?
Do I need or want to back up programs, or in my case I just want to back up
mainly music and books and documents?
thanks again for all your answers.
I have not bought one yet, I am looking on Amazon right now for the best one.
Does anyone have a good model or brand that you might suggest besides seagate
which I am thinking of buying?

It should act like a flash drive in that your system will pick it up but
then it is your deal what goes on it ETC. Normally they are empty and in
most cases I have seen if there would be any software already on the drive

I just got a call from a guy who told me that:

When you first install the drive, there may be a dialogue asking if you
want to install software, schedule backups, etc. but you can back out of
it and use the drive just the way you would use any other drive.
Windows will assign it a drive letter, and you will see it in the list
of drives in Windows Explorer or My Computer, or just Computer if you
are using Windows 7.

this is for those who use JFW on a net book which is one of those Intel Atom
based 10inch screen net book computers with typically a 1.6GHZ dual core
processor and 1 or 2Gb of RAM and a spinning 5400rpm hard drive. Do you use

computer has a larger internal hard disk than my laptop. I use Karen's
Replicator to copy all of my important files from my laptop to the
desktop computer. Then Carbonite backups my data from both computers.
Since it is used by my son, I do not have JAWS on that computer. I have
NVDA installed instead.

There is a general HTML style window available through the System Tray
or the Programs menu. Everything is readable in this window, but it is
extremely frustrating and slow! Perhaps JAWS does better! It acts like
a web page with an unusual amount of JavaScript continually running.
The right mouse click context menus are much easier to use. It should
indicate if a particular file or folder is completely vacked up. The
sighted can easily see this at a glance for all files and folders,
because the icons are color coded! After my backup should be complete,
I look at the status of some high level folders. It may say everything
is currently backed up or that some files are not backed up. The trial
will only back up files in certain locations and will initially block
large files, like videos. You can use the Carbonite Properties dialog
in the context menus to add folders elsewhere and other filetypes you
want to backup. For instance, I have lots of media on this disk, which
is actually served up as a DLNA Media Server, at C:\Media. By using the
Applications key, then arrowing down to the Carbonite submenu and
selecting Properties, you can check whether to backup this folder. It
is that easy. I also made sure that all of the filetypes I wanted to
backup were included. This is a pain, but only needs to be done once.
Select any file in a folder that is flagged for backup of each type,
like .mp3, or .m4v. Open the Carbonite Properties of that file. Again
check the desired checkboxes to backup this file and for all files of
this filetype.

For the most part, an external drive is an external drive. Make sure you
get one that works with Windows, USB 2 or 3, the 3 is faster if you have a
newer computer that supports USB 3.0 but it will be backward compatible with
Usb 2.0.

Unless you get a drive that incorporates automated data backup, no it won't
back up anything automatically. You can use imaging software if you want to
make an image of your whole system, or you can use a number of different
data backup options including windows backup.

Hi Jerry,

I guess I used the wrong wordage!
How to access Accountsin WindowsMail;
1. While in WindowsMail, press Alt + T, for tools, & press the letter A, for
accounts.
2. Route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor & press the page-up key to take
the cursor to the top of the page.
3. Arrow down & highlight the Identity you want to work with. Now, do a
left mouse click on this Identity, & go back to the PC cursor by pressing
the PC cursor key.
4. You now have the Identity you want to work with accessible. You can tab
through this dialogue box to Import / Export or, make other changes. If you
need to access the properties to make changes to your server settings or
other pages / tabs in properties press Alt + P, right here as well.
Take care.
Mike

[JAWS-Users] Logo Question

2012-08-17 Thread jerry martin
To all Listers:

I have a business logo on a flyer that my wife designed for me in MS Word 2007.
Whenever I send this flyer via Windows Mail, the words/text show up, but the
logo itself does not. Does anyone have any idea as to why this is, and does
anyone have a possible solution?

Many thanks.
Jerry
