Hi,

I would greatly appreciate if you have any notes on getting JAWS to work
better with DOS applications and if you could pass these on to me.

Many Thanks,

Charlie.

I don't know if you got any replies, but I did have some notes on improving
jaws working in a command and/or dos window, I'll go look and see if I can
find any of them for you, and we can hope they still work in j 14. it was a
very basic change that corrected a lot of troubles so it should still work.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Using A DOS Application

Hi,

I Wonder if any of you can help?

I am currently using the latest build of JAWS 14 with Vocaliser voices. At
work, I need to access and support an old MS DOS application and am having
trouble getting JAWS to speak menus, forms, fields etc., within the
application. I used to run a DOS Screen Reader many years ago, however, it
was dependent upon a hardware speech synthesizer.

Is it possible to run a package like JAWS For DOS on a PC, alongside JAWS 14
and, if so, how might I go about this? Would JAWS for DOS work with a
software synthesizer? Alternatively, how might I configure JAWS 14 to work
better with a DOS application (DataEase Database Software), or are there any
scripts out there which might help? I know that JAWS works fine with the
Command Prompt in WINDOWS XP, however, this is pretty rudimentary.

I contacted Freedom Scientific but they cannot offer any support. They
suggested contacting some of the user forums for advice.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts, realising that some of the younger
community on the list may not even know what MS DOS was.

With Kind Regards,

Charlie Nicol.

[JAWS-Users] Convenient OCR

2012-12-03 Thread Alana Jovanovski
Hi,

I am using convenient OCR on adobe reader. When I use it with any pdf
document, I find the text runs together and I have a feeling it skips pages
with the most recent document I'm using. Can I fix this? I use the zoom
feature, I have tried it at a maximum of 200% which makes the text separated
somewhat, but I would like it to read more accurately. I have also maximised
the window. I have even pressed control 1.

Thanks.

The j rewinds, k stops, and l fast forward. Now you may have to do
a insert + z and again when you want jaws control of the page.

It also don't work on the commercials but does on flash.

Re: [JAWS-Users] What's a good database for use with jaws!

2012-12-03 Thread Dan Rossi
Depending on what you are using the database for, what platform you are
using it on, and the interface being used, you will have varying degrees
of success.

I work on Oracle databases all day as my job. However, these are Linux
based databases, I use JAWS and ssh into the boxes where the databases
live, and thus the databases are 100% accessible because I just query the
database directly through sqlplus.

I will say that Oracle has done quite a lot of work in making their stuff
accessible. Once you get the access bridge installed, even their java
based forms, and other application software is quite accessible. I will
give one huge example.

I use their Grid Manager every day. This is a java-based web-based
application that allows me to monitor all aspects of all the databases we
manage. There are lots of nice spiffy graphs which, are obviously not
accessible. However, right at the top of each graph is a link to click on
that shows you a table of the data displayed in the graph. So, although I
can't see the graph I can look at the data directly.

Since MySQL is now owned by Oracle, hopefully they will work on the
accessibility of that platform as well.

1a.) If no sc4ripts are available, does anyone have any tips for using

2. If not, are there other translation programs which play nicely with

Hello everyone,

I hope I'm not the only one with this issue. If not, I hope that some of you
report it also. FS Tech support tells me that they can't reproduce it and
will not escalate it. At random times, outlook 2010 will stop responding.
When this happends, jaws stops speeking and will not allow me to do
anything. The only way to get things working again, I have to kill jaws
using the dump command and reload. Sometimes, I even have to restart the
system to get it Jaws working right. Has anyone had this issue?

Thanks,

Geovanni
