with most recording software that I know of, the only option is to use a second sound card or external device (USB headphones) to allow you to isolate/listen to jaws separately. that's the only thing I know of that will completely isolate jaws and what your recording on the systems sound card. luckily with most applications designating what plays on what audio device is not to troublesome. and many inexpensive sound cards will do the trick just find, in fact mine took all sounds and I had to manually move my audio player back to the system card. Re: [JAWS-Users] Installing previous versions of JAWS
Actually you should uninstall 14 and then start reinstalling other versions starting at the oldest. The reason is that your shared components can cause you problems. If you start installing older versions over the new ones then you are applying older versions of shared components which may not work correctly with the newer versions of jaws. Wondering if someone on this list could confirm something for me. If you have following configuration, Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit; MS Office 2010; JAWS 14 and/or 13 Please try the following. Send your self a MS Word document. When the message arrives in your inbox, hit enter to open it. Then use either insert (JAWS key) A or tab until you hear list of attachments. Arrow to the Word Attachment you sent yourself and hit enter. Hopefully you have all default setting in your trust center enabled and the document should open in protected view. Now see if you can read the document as is in protected view using standard JAWS reading functions such as arrow down one line at a time or insert down arrow key to read the document. Don't use the JAWS cursor to read the document. If this works, hit Ctrl key to silence JAWS then hit F6 key to see if a message pops up telling you the document is in protected view. If you hear this message, see if you can arrow down to an enable button, press space bar, and then read the document in unprotected view and try any type basic editing function such as delete a few characters, or type in it. Re: [JAWS-Users] EXPORTING SETTINGS?
Hi You can take your user settings to another pc by copying your user settings folder to the user settings folder on the other pc. To do this, go to your user settings folder on the original pc. Press backspace to open that folder's parent. Press control+c to copy the enu folder to the clipboard. Then go to a flash disk or shared folder on the receiving computer and press control+v to paste the folder there. On the receiving pc, go to the enu folder you copied and open the folder. If the receiving pc is running the same version of JAWS as the original pc, you can copy the entire folder to the JAWS user settings folder there. If the receiving pc is running a different version of JAWS, I would first delete the Default.JCF from the enu folder you copied. Then press control+a to select everything the the copied enu folder and then control+c to copy all that to the clipboard. Then go to the JAWS user settings folder on the receiving pc and press control+v to paste the copied settings into it. Also if the versions of JAWS are different, you might want to recompile any user scripts so they match the running version of JAWS. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Kliphton Sent: Saturday, January 12, 2013 11:51 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] EXPORTING SETTINGS? [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 and the Windows 8 dilemma
Hi all, My current laptop (running JAWS 11 and Vista) is going to crash any day now, so I am looking to purchase a new laptop as soon as possible. I have spoken to several people regarding the pros and cons of Windows 8, and as to whether sticking with Windows 7 would be a wiser decision. Another factor to consider is that, while Windows 7 is still readily available, my selection of Windows 8 laptop options would be somewhat broader. I would appreciate hearing from those of you who have been using Windows 8 on a regular basis both successfully or unsuccessfully, and whether either 7 or 8 seems to provide the JAWS user with greater advantages other than 7 being within our comfort zone. I do expect, within reason, that 8 would involve a significant learning curve, but if some tasks are outright impossible to perform (reading specific screens, navigation issues, etc.), please share these as well, as too much ongoing frustration might make me think twice about the switch. Many thanks in advance, Kristina For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 and the Windows 8 dilemma
Kristina, I bought a Sony Windows 8 laptop a month ago and it does work with Jaws version 14. With a little tweeking, Internet explorer 10 can be made to work in "desktop" mode and looks to me very much like Internet explorer 9. Older printers as well as the Generic text printer for Duxbury can be made to work, although the ways to do it are not obvious. I will be glad to help you with this if you need it. Windows 8 will Work with Kurzweil and I expect it would work as well with OpenBook. . . I wanted to prove to myself that Windows 8 could work for blind users and I succeeded! Now that I have proved to myself that it can work, I am going to give the windows 8 laptop to a sighted friend who really likes the new Metro screens. I find Windows 7 much more gracious and manageable and intend to try to keep it for several years. Peter -- From: "Kristina Kolley" Sent: Monday, January 14, 2013 12:24 PM To: Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 and the Windows 8 dilemma Hi all, My current laptop (running JAWS 11 and Vista) is going to crash any day now, so I am looking to purchase a new laptop as soon as possible. So, I've been reading through the help information in JAWS about running JAWS with Citrix. I get the basic idea. Marc I don't know of an accessible program that only prints checks. But, if you go to WWW.aph.org and download the demo copy of Money Talks you can print checks from the program. The demo version allows up to 50 transactions so when you have written 50 checks you can delete the transactions and start over again. Several years ago I was looking around for a check writing program too and ran across Money Talks and decided to use it as a replacement for Quicken.
