[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder

2013-09-10 Thread Moderator
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with
scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all know
works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or
want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates
a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I
am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how
new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence
to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be
there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is
quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than
first.
So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck
then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current
dilemma.
Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if
there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with
JAWS
is perfectly fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom
Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest
you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also
any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be
posted
to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment
but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete
messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 550
subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that
are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you
will
find the group web address along with some other relevant information
pertaining to contacting the management team ETC.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your
account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and
follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after
receiving
a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer wish to be
a member of the list and remove your email address.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech
swap shop
or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services
will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is
off
topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does
not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should
only
post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be
short and to the point without including any member names.

The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules
to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in effect do
not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at
the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and
every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with
unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly
please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help
dying
kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.

Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article
or message of interest which relates to the

nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it
will be posted to the list. Additionally

saying

that you can get windows sounds, and jaws, but not if you plug in the
speekers? if your using more then 1 sound card it would be possable for
jaws

to go threw 1 sound card, while windows sounds go threw the other.

As for your hubby, well, you could just keep asking him to fix it over and

how

he did it so you will stop bugging him.

if that don't work, try blackmail. LOL! smiley, just kidding.

Hi listers,
i apologize for the novice question, but have reached the end of my
admittedly limited patience.

Quite simply, I'm running JAWS 12 on a Windows 7 system with a
Realtech HD soundcard. With my previous SB Live card in XP it was a
simple matter of plug and play to swap between headphones and speakers
but this does not seem to be the case now. While I generally work with
headphones, there are times when I wish to switch to speaker
configuration and would like instructions on how to do this. My
sighted husband is available in case of major disasters, but his usual
approach is to disable JAWS while stumbling toward whatever solution
and he is not particularly good at explaining his steps so that I can
learn them. In this situation he had configured the speakers
temporarily, but at reboot I was unable to bring up anything but
system sounds via speakers, though again headphones worked fine. I've
attempted to look around the audio manager and speakers dialogues but
still seem to be missing something, so step by step help would be
best. Many thanks.

Susan

Hi listers,
i apologize for the novice question, but have reached the end of my
admittedly limited patience.

Hit them 1 at a time, and see if it un mutes there sound.

I didn't understand your remark on Norton?

Norton is not jaws friendly, it actually sucks...

Thanks everyone for the votes of confidence. BitDefender has great ratings
and has worked very well for me for a number of years- but I'm ready to have
something I can totally access without sighted assistance. Totally agree
about Norton, Marilyn!

I have tried Avg and Avast. Don't like either of them so went to MSE. It
works fine. Be aware if you tell it to do a full scan it may take a
while. It takes considerably longer than Avg or Avast, but the quick
scan is pretty good. I also use Malware Bytes Antimalware. You do have
to use the mouse to switch between tabs. In MSE, you don't need to use
the mouse at all. Hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Unmuting Windows System Volume

2013-09-10 Thread Jose
Here are the key strokes I use to get to my volume. Assuming there's nothing
on the system tray starting with the letter s. because on my machine it's
called speekers.

also assuming jaws is running.

1. hit insert f 11.
2. hit s for speekers
3. hit enter twice.
4. tab once.
5. hit space.

that should un mute the speekers.

Hi Min,

Have your friend try the following to put a mute/unmute shortcut on the
desktop & assign a keystroke to it.

1, go to desktop, Windows key+m,

2, press the keystroke, Ctrl+spacebar, To unselect all icons.

3, press the applications key, and down arrow and enter on, New sub menu.

4, now arrow and enter on, New shortcut.

5,Now type the following in the edit box,
sndvol
6, tab next, press enter.
You will see/hear;
sndvol.exe
Tab finish press enter.

Now, if you would like a hot-key,

1, desktop,
Press the letter "s" until you hear,
sndvol.exe.

2, now press alt+enter to bring up the properties,

3, tab until you hear;
Shortcut key none,
Here you could type "v"=volume or what ever letter you wish, Now press
enter.
So, alt+ctrl+v would bring up the sndvol dialog page,

Hope this helps.

Take care.
Mike

Is there any shourtcut keystrokes for unmuting Windows system volume as

as for unmuting JAWS? A friend of mine is currently in dire need of
information regarding the matter. Your help would be sincerely

Re: [JAWS-Users] Unmuting Windows System Volume

2013-09-10 Thread Jose
while this may hnot help at the moment, wasn't there a program that would
un mute speekers at start up? Is your friend using a keybord that has extra
buttons above the top row? If so try pressing the buttons around the volume
keys on the keybord.

Hit them 1 at a time, and see if it un mutes there sound.
good luck.

personally mute and un mute windows system sound right with in my
speaker's mixer. i dont know any keystroke for doing the task. i my
self do it manually.
