[JAWS-Users] guidelines

2013-10-01 Thread David Ferrin
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain
task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal
place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no
matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the
confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the
list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that
help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last
than first. So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you
get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your
current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a
post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and
works well with JAWS is perfectly fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I
suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also
any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be
posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are
over 550 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on
here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you
will find the group web address along with some other relevant information
pertaining to contacting the management team ETC.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your
account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and
follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after
receiving a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer
wish to be a member of the list and remove your email address.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech
swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or
services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given
subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the
subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and
members should only post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be
short and to the point without including any member names.

The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules
to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in effect do
not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at
the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and
every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with

unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly
please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help
dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.

Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article
or message of interest which relates to the

nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it
will be posted to the list.

[JAWS-Users] Cookies

2013-10-01 Thread Trish
Is there a way to view what sites have cookies on my computer?
I had to uncheck the delete history under tools/options because of a conflict
setting from my bank. But what if I want to delete some other sites that has
placed cookies, is there some way to view all the cookies and only delete the
ones you want and keep the rest?
I know when I used xp there was a way to view these cookies, but I am not sure
with window's 7.

Appreciate any help..

New Features Added in JAWS Public Beta 2, Build 15.0.3103
Improved Windows 8 Start Screen Navigation Using the Touch Cursor
Previously, navigating Tiles on the new Windows 8 Start Screen was difficult to
understand. Like a traditional desktop, the columns did not wrap, and because
tiles can be different sizes, it was very difficult to orient yourself when
moving with the PC focus. We now suggest you consider using the Touch Cursor
mode to offer a more seamless and predictable way of learning the tiles and
where they are located.
To begin, move focus to the Windows 8 Start Screen by pressing the WINDOWS key
until you hear Start Screen. Now you can activate the Touch Cursor by
pressing SHIFT+NUM PAD PLUS on a Desktop keyboard or SHIFT+CAPS LOCK+SEMICOLON
on a Laptop keyboard. With the Touch Cursor on, you can use the single-finger
flick up and down gestures to move between the groups, or use UP and DOWN
ARROWS to simulate the gestures, even if you do not have a touch screen. Note
that groups are generally not named by default, so JAWS will refer to the Group
name based on whatever the first tile is in the group that gains focus. At any
point, you can use either a single-finger flick right or left on a Touch Screen
or use the RIGHT and LEFT ARROWS to explore all tiles from your current
location. If you locate a Tile for an application you wish to launch, simply
double tap the touch screen with a single finger, or just press ENTER to launch
the tile you are on.
New Setting for Controlling How Web Page Links are Activated
On certain Web pages, pressing ENTER on some elements such as links does not
always activate the element as expected. The new Link Activation option affects
how links are activated when you press the ENTER key in a virtual document. It
is located under the Virtual Cursor Options and Personalized Web Settings
groups in Quick Settings, as well as under the Miscellaneous group of the
Web/HTML/PDF group in Settings Center.
When this option is set to Enter simulates mouse click, pressing the ENTER
key on a link actually simulates a left mouse click on the link. This is how
JAWS behaved prior to version 15, and it is still the default behavior.
When this option is set to Enter sends Enter key, pressing the ENTER key on a
link instead causes the ENTER key to be passed on to the system. You may want
to choose this setting if pressing ENTER does not activate a Web element unless
you first press INSERT+3 to enable the Pass Key Through feature.
Enhancements in JAWS 15.0.3103 (October 2013)

The following is a list of improvements made between this release and the
initial public beta release.

JAWS

  * Resolved numerous issues submitted by customers using the new Error
Reporting feature.
  * To activate the PC Cursor while the Touch Cursor is currently active, you
must now press the PC Cursor command (NUM PAD PLUS, or CAPSLOCK+SEMICOLON)
twice quickly. If you press this command once, JAWS will say touch cursor and
if Tutor Messages are enabled, will also say double tap to activate the PC
Cursor.
  * Pressing INSERT+NUM PAD PLUS (CAPSLOCK+APOSTROPHE if you are using the
laptop keyboard layout) while using the Touch Cursor will move the Touch Cursor
to the object that currently has focus. This is helpful if you are exploring
the screen and you want to quickly move the Touch Cursor back to the currently
selected object. If the Touch Cursor is off, this command still routes the PC
Cursor to the JAWS Cursor location as expected.
  * The CAPS LOCK key can now be used to perform JAWS Tandem keystrokes if
CAPS LOCK is being used as the JAWS key, such as in the Laptop Keyboard Layout.
These commands include, CAPS LOCK+ALT+T to end a tandem session, CAPS
LOCK+ALT+TAB to toggle a tandem session, and CAPS LOCK+CTRL+SHIFT+V to toggle
tandem video.
  * When editing a speech and sounds scheme, resolved an issue where an
unexpected error message was being spoken when selecting the Add or Modify
buttons on the Attributes page.
  * When toggling the Touch Cursor Automatic Activation option in Quick
settings, resolved an issue where the setting would not take affect until after
JAWS was restarted.
  * Resolved an issue where Windows Explorer would sometimes stop responding
on some systems with JAWS running.
  * When performing a search in the News app and you press ESC to cancel the
search, resolved an issue where the

[JAWS-Users] i'd like to ask for help with eudora?

2013-10-01 Thread randy tijerina

hello friends, Randy here.
I got a question i'd like to ask for help with. I'm using the latest
beta release of jaws15.

I have eudora 7.1.0.9.
here's how I check or delete my mail.
I go to the top by hitting the home key. then usually I delete
messages after I hear the name date subject or whatever.
When I do a delete jaws will say letters in upper case pitch like
this, R or S or whatever.

it doesn't say 300 of whatever numbers.
it's the same when I go to the bottom of the mailbox.
any suggestions on how to fix this? this didn't happen in 14.
I'm using windows 7 home 64-bit.

New Features Added in JAWS Public Beta 2, Build 15.0.3103
Improved Windows 8 Start Screen Navigation Using the Touch Cursor
Previously, navigating Tiles on the new Windows 8 Start Screen was difficult
to understand. Like a traditional desktop, the columns did not wrap, and
because tiles can be different sizes, it was very difficult to orient
yourself when moving with the PC focus. We now suggest you consider using
the Touch Cursor mode to offer a more seamless and predictable way of
learning the tiles and where they are located.
To begin, move focus to the Windows 8 Start Screen by pressing the WINDOWS
key until you hear Start Screen. Now you can activate the Touch Cursor by
pressing SHIFT+NUM PAD PLUS on a Desktop keyboard or SHIFT+CAPS
LOCK+SEMICOLON on a Laptop keyboard. With the Touch Cursor on, you can use
the single-finger flick up and down gestures to move between the groups, or
use UP and DOWN ARROWS to simulate the gestures, even if you do not have a
touch screen. Note that groups are generally not named by default, so JAWS
will refer to the Group name based on whatever the first tile is in the
group that gains focus. At any point, you can use either a single-finger
flick right or left on a Touch Screen or use the RIGHT and LEFT ARROWS to
explore all tiles from your current location. If you locate a Tile for an
application you wish to launch, simply double tap the touch screen with a
single finger, or just press ENTER to launch the tile you are on.
New Setting for Controlling How Web Page Links are Activated
On certain Web pages, pressing ENTER on some elements such as links does not
always activate the element as expected. The new Link Activation option
affects how links are activated when you press the ENTER key in a virtual
document. It is located under the Virtual Cursor Options and Personalized
Web Settings groups in Quick Settings, as well as under the Miscellaneous
group of the Web/HTML/PDF group in Settings Center.
When this option is set to Enter simulates mouse click, pressing the ENTER
key on a link actually simulates a left mouse click on the link. This is how
JAWS behaved prior to version 15, and it is still the default behavior.
When this option is set to Enter sends Enter key, pressing the ENTER key
on a link instead causes the ENTER key to be passed on to the system. You
may want to choose this setting if pressing ENTER does not activate a Web
element unless you first press INSERT+3 to enable the Pass Key Through
feature.
Enhancements in JAWS 15.0.3103 (October 2013)

The following is a list of improvements made between this release and the
initial public beta release.

JAWS

  * Resolved numerous issues submitted by customers using the new Error
Reporting feature.
  * To activate the PC Cursor while the Touch Cursor is currently active,
you must now press the PC Cursor command (NUM PAD PLUS, or
CAPSLOCK+SEMICOLON) twice quickly. If you press this command once, JAWS will
say touch cursor and if Tutor Messages are enabled, will also say double
tap to activate the PC Cursor.
  * Pressing INSERT+NUM PAD PLUS (CAPSLOCK+APOSTROPHE if you are using the
laptop keyboard layout) while using the Touch Cursor will move the Touch
Cursor to the object that currently has focus. This is helpful if you are
exploring the screen and you want to quickly move the Touch Cursor back to
the currently selected object. If the Touch Cursor is off, this command
still routes the PC Cursor to the JAWS Cursor location as expected.
  * The CAPS LOCK key can now be used to perform JAWS Tandem keystrokes if
CAPS LOCK is being used as the JAWS key, such as in the Laptop Keyboard
Layout. These commands include, CAPS LOCK+ALT+T to end a tandem session,
CAPS LOCK+ALT+TAB to toggle a tandem session, and CAPS LOCK+CTRL+SHIFT+V to
toggle tandem video.
  * When editing a speech and sounds scheme, resolved an issue where an
unexpected error message was being spoken when selecting the Add or Modify
buttons on the Attributes page.
  * When toggling the Touch Cursor Automatic Activation option in

will refer to the Group name based on whatever the first tile is in the
group that gains focus.
On certain Web pages, pressing ENTER on some elements such as links does
 not
always activate the element as expected.
When this option is set to Enter simulates mouse click, pressing the
 ENTER
key on a link actually simulates a left mouse click on the link. This is
 how
JAWS behaved prior to version 15, and it is still the default behavior.
When this option is set to Enter sends Enter key, pressing the ENTER
 key
on a link instead causes the ENTER key to be passed on to the system. You
may want to choose this setting if pressing ENTER does not activate a Web
element unless you first press INSERT+3 to enable the Pass Key Through
 feature.

The following is a list of improvements made between this release and the
 initial public beta release.

You're welcome, I'm just glad there weren't 50 messages all lined up for me
to read when I got home tonight after my friend rebooted the Mailman server.
I could do it if I had access but I don't work for a web hosting company.
Come to think of it that sounds like fun for me.

Never the less it is back to business as normal.

Obviously it has been fixed after being down for most of the day. I had my
guy in Canada reboot the server since I don't personally have access to
 the
control panel. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Windows 8 Start Screen Navigation Using the Touch Cursor Previously,
navigating Tiles on the new Windows 8 Start Screen was difficult to
understand. Like a traditional desktop, the columns did not wrap, and
because tiles can be different sizes, it was very difficult to orient

using the Touch Cursor mode to offer a more seamless and predictable
way of learning the tiles and where they are located.
To begin, move focus to the Windows 8 Start Screen by pressing the
WINDOWS key until you hear Start Screen. Now you can activate the
Touch Cursor by pressing SHIFT+NUM PAD PLUS on a Desktop keyboard or

Is there a way to view what sites have cookies on my computer?
I had to uncheck the delete history under tools/options because of a
conflict setting from my bank. But what if I want to delete some other sites
that has placed cookies, is there some way to view all the cookies and only
delete the ones you want and keep the rest?
I know when I used xp there was a way to view these cookies, but I am not
sure with window's 7.

Appreciate any help..
