[JAWS-Users] This problem with youtube has lasted 2 or 3 days!

2013-10-05 Thread David Ingram
Hi list members, I have the same problem as the rest of you when after going to
YouTube.com and after you put in your search term, if it just happens to be
music or a video, nothing happens. I think that is something that is unheard
of but we don't know why this is happening. I've tried this whether using
Internet explorer 8 or Firefox version 24. Maybe We can check with
Freedomscientific? I don't know whether YouTube has support people available
to answer questions but since this is something that we all use, we should see
if they might know why this is happening.

Stephanie, I went to the bank of America.com site and of course I can't log
in, but I will tell you what I found and hopefully it will give you some
direction. When you are on the site at the top of the page press l and it
will bring you to the first list. If you arrown down once it will say
"personal." Press enter on this. Then it will bring up a new page, press h
for headings and you will come to one that say something like "handle
banking online" and if you arrow down once it will say "bill pay." I hope
that helps you some. I agree it is tricky; but I think you can handle it.

Hi all,
Have any of you tried navigating the Bank of America website? It's a
nightmare! I do pretty well at navigating websites, but this one is next to
impossible-and they even have so-called tips for screen readers.
One example of what I'm trying to do is go to the Bill Pay tab which is
apparently on the homepage somewhere.
Any tips or tricks for navigating their webpages would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Stephanie

I recently had this issue too. I did have to increase my vol settings to 100%
before I heard the song. I didn't do it your way though, I did first press
spacebar on the "mute" button and nothing happened, then I heard Jaws say to
press "Alt A" which I did till it rose to the level I wanted.

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but what good are such third-party
anti-virus program recommendations if they are not JAWS accessible? Of
course, some intrepid list member could try them and report on their

it may be difficult to impossible to remove them without sighted help if
they don't work out.

In JAWS 15, this will not be necessary because of the release of Vocalizer
Expressive which is not included as part of 15. For JAWS 14, you can do this
via the speech and sounds manager to change the spoken word Cap, to a sound.
Here is the Technical Support Notice on that topic.

You have to buy a program if you wish to move programs. For documents,
downloads and the like, windows 7 comes with a transfer tool that will do
the job, you simply gook up both machines to the same network and run the
windows easy transfer program. Your outlook express files can be read
with windows live mail, which may or may not be included in 7, but you can
download it. If all this is too much, get a tech to help, paying for
their time may be easier than beating your head against the wall.

I'll add cleaner as well. ;) Rich You will need t download windows live

Eset's Nod32 - or its Smart Security suite, now up to version 6 - is
still reasonably accessible with JAWS. The main thing barring its

However, there is an audio reCAPTCHA which isn't too bad if you don't
have a hearing impairment. if you do, then best recourse may be to call

Re: [JAWS-Users] unmuting youtube.

2013-10-05 Thread Gerald Levy

Okay, once again here are the correct steps to restore sound to Youtube
videos using JAWS:

1. Load the Youtube page containing the video you want to listen to.
2. Turn off the virtual cursor by pressing JAWS key-Z.
3. Starting from the top of the page, tab repeatedly until you reach the
unmute button. This may require a lot of tabbing until you finally land on
it.
4. Once you are on the unmute button, press the Space bar and then press the
up arrow button repeatedly to increase the audio volume to the desired
level. Finally, press JAWS key-Z again to turn the virtual cursor back on.

I tried these steps myself, and they worked for me.

Hi

There is a way to do this.

1. Start playing the specific youtube video.
2. Use Jaws key plus z to turn off the virtual cursor.
3. Tab until you reach the unmute button. It is important to know that you
have to tab quite a few times until you get there.
5. When you get to the unmute button, use the up arrow to turn the volume
up again. You will hear all kinds of stuff spoken but the sound of the
video should increase in volume.

The important thing is to turn off the virtual cursor before following the
other steps and turn it on again afterwards.

This worked for me.

I was about to put the same query. Does anyone know a solution? If yes,
please suggest. I'm in need of a song, which I'm not able to hear. I need
the song immediately.

That'd be just a once-off every year or two. There is also the option of
ordering on the telephone, although I'm not sure if it works well where

CtrlShiftO is the same as in outlook Express, and that is not the way to
the account settings. In WLM: Go into the upper Ribbons with the alt
key. The Accounts tab is the 4th of four. Arrow along to it; then tab to
the General Tab; and tab to the Properties Button. Now shift+tab or find
the General tab, and arrow along to Advanced... and tabbing in here, you
will find the incoming and outgoing server port numbers which you can
edit.

There's a campaign on Change.org to get rid of inaccessible visual and

how inaccessible captchas exclude people who are blind or visually

Have any of you looked into Trend Micro? No Captia, and no sighted
assistance required. They have several levels of protection, depending on
your networking needs. I have used nothing else for at least five years.

Yeah, I remember trying the audio captcha and couldn't understand
diddly

there is
no easy way to purchase it for many folks unless they get sighted help

Eset's Nod32 - or its Smart Security suite, now up to version 6 - is
still
reasonably accessible with JAWS. The main thing barring its purchase
is a
CAPTCHA, which is very secure and doesn't like WebVisum. However,
there is
an audio reCAPTCHA which isn't too bad if you don't have a hearing
impairment. if you do, then best recourse may be to call on sighted
assistance to resolve it.

If you are using Jaws 11 or higher you can use research it, type in your zip
code or city down arrow to weather, next to the bottom item and see very
current weather.

My only problem is one weather page I use as my home page always seems to
think it is clear at 5 AM while the page Research it uses usually has it
right,. My experience in Scottsdale AZ is that it is the best weather
solution except, it does not provide yesterday's high/low or sunrise/sunset
which is why I keep my home page where it is.

Tired of Captchas?
There's a campaign on Change.org to get rid of inaccessible visual and
audio captchas on the web. The point of the campaign is to raise
awareness about
how inaccessible captchas exclude people who are blind or visually
impaired from participating in a range of web sites. To sign on, visit

Recently you would have received a password reminder (sent out at the
beginning of every month) from the jaws-users listserv. It enables you
yourself to set your mail priorities, among other things. You can disable
normal or individual email receiving on the mentioned site, once you log
in with your user info including that password. Look at the footer at
the bottom of this thread to locate help where you might start.

Upon your return, and if you wish to get back to individual emails
again, don't forget to go back there and enable your receiving
individual emails from the list.

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but what good are such
third-party anti-virus program recommendations if they are not JAWS
 accessible?
 Of
course, some intrepid list member could try them and report on
their compatibility with JAWS, but the problem with all of these
programs is that it may be difficult to impossible to remove them
without sighted help if they don't work out.

Tired of Captchas?
There's a campaign on Change.org to get rid of inaccessible visual and
audio captchas on the web. The point of the campaign is to raise
awareness about
how inaccessible captchas exclude people who are blind or visually
impaired from participating in a range of web sites. To sign on, visit

www.change.org/en-AU/petitions/it-s-time-to-finally-kill-captcha-2.

[JAWS-Users] Trend Micro

2013-10-05 Thread Donnie Parrett
My son installed Trend Micro on my computer a couple months ago and I
couldn't get JAWS to do anything with it. I finally had to go back to MSE.
TM really seems to be an awesome antivirus program, but as far as I could
tell, it is totally unaccessible for a blind person. That's just my two
cents worth.
