Yes, you need to get a USB 3.0 PCI board if you have an available slot in your computer. Otherwise, no, but USB 3 devices are backward compatible so they will work, just not as fast as the blazing transfer speeds on USB 3. - Original Message - From: Pedro Romero phre...@comcast.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Friday, November 15, 2013 4:15 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Advice sought regarding external storage drives Is it possible to change a USB 2.0 port to a 3.0 port? [JAWS-Users] How to load all the JAWS FS Reader 3 training files from the cd after JAWS has been installed
Hi In JAWS 15 with FS Reader 3, I have read that you install the training files through FS reader and not via the JAWS updates. I have also read that if you install JAWS from the CD, you get an option to install all the training files from the CD. But if you download JAWS from FS and install it, you do not get an option to install the training files. Also running the JAWS startup wizard with the CD in the drive does not mention loading the training files. So is there a way to install all of these files at once from the CD after you have installed JAWS 15 without re-installing JAWS 15? Thanks. Hi Mike, Although I've never tried this but, maybe if you chose the custom install option, that might allow you to install the training files themselves. I do know this though, if you download / install the training material through Jaws options / Help / Training, only do a few at a time. HTH Take care. He's saying that you'd need an open slot in your pc in order to add a usb3 card. You can use the new usb3 drives fine on usb2, but if you want the extra speed, you'd have to add a card to get it. --- Blogging at tech-mysteries.blogspot.com On 11/16/2013 13:11, Pedro Romero wrote: Hi Steve. Re: [JAWS-Users] How to load all the JAWS FS Reader 3 training files from the cd after JAWS has been installed
From the what's new section I understand that in the new FS3 reader you can select a file and if it has been updated since you last accessed it, it will be downloaded to your computer and ready for you to read. So, if you are looking for let's say Surf's up, you would press enter on that file to open it, if it has been updated recently you would probably hear please wait... and the newest update would be downloaded to the computer. I could be wrong but it is how I understood it to work. Not sure what happens if it is a totally new file selection, how would it know to show in the table of contents, but then maybe the table of contents connects to be updated in that case. Your milage may vary. I have the CD but have not even opened it. One last trick, if you hold down the shift key on inserting a CD it will not start loading the jaws install. It will wait for you to select a file on the disk. Having not actually looked at this year's CD yet I don't know what those file names should be. When I have time I will check it out. Re: [JAWS-Users] How to load all the JAWS FS Reader 3 training files from the cd after JAWS has been installed
OK, the new FS reader is slightly different when it opens it is in the navigation pain, however, use F6 to go to the contents and, select a book or item, the press enter. If there is a newer version of the file the reader will tell you and ask your permission to download it. So, since I put the disk in and found no real easy to install the training files, mine came with set up jaws, set up magic or install vocalizer voices, I left those files alone, looked at the contents of the disk and did not see any way to extract the files easily, may have missed it, however, I loaded FSR 3 and eventually after some trial error, got a file to open, it did not need to be replaced, as with many of the files probably. Not sure about some of those older files especially with Windows 8 and 8.1, and not happy about needing to pick up three or even two files that probably do not load into FSR anyway for some of the webinars free or not. I would prefer all that training everything to go to the same place and be able to navigate in the same way. Still, I don't think you have to worry about using FSR to get the training and the extra files. Good luck and hope this helped a little. You will find much more in the FSR getting started which you can reach at any time by pressing F1.
